This Museum corresponds to the category of Museum.
Layout is confusing. Nice it is free
Fun
Good rotating collections, friendly staff, coat room, and more. Very solid
Great atmosphere for a wedding. Did a great job accommodating for the rain too!
Beautiful works in house every time I'm there. 10/10
We had so much fun here! Great place to bring your family.
A really good collection of artwork and sculptures. Even the architecture of the building symbolizes what it represents.
Very nice exhibits of contemporary art that encourage participation in the artistic process.
Awesome museum for contemporary art
A great place for downtown Madison. They have great rotating exhibits.
Great free contemporary art museum.
Nice museum with great view
Love it
A lovely place to enjoy the art museum atmosphere and discover underappreciated artists and styles for completely free. Great for a broke college student weekend or just for one of the few Madison experiences you don't have to pay for
Admittedly, I’m biased since I work for the museum. But I was a fan even before that. Great exhibitions, education stations, a rooftop sculpture garden with gorgeous views, and free admission!
Beautiful space. Emotions on the wall.
beautiful place to spend a winter morning
#modernart #photography #freeforstudents
Always love the exhibits they have here, plus it's free.
Famous artists, worth seeing even for those who usually go to huge museums. Beautiful building, with a must visit if you have children because their huge room with massive amounts of forms children can put together to truly experience the feeling of an artist. Go there regularly to nurture their young creative. It's free.
Wonderful place
Another fantastic world-class collection right here in Madison. We are fortunate for a collection like this available to students, residents, and visitors alike. Conveniently located downtown /campus with ample parking with accessible parking and entrances.
Excellent museum. Really thought provocative and interesting art.
I am a better person for having experienced Do Ho Suh's gallery.
Madison's Museum of Contemporary Art is a wonderful building for a number of reasons. Firstly, the price of admission: $0. Not just students, but anyone can visit without having to pay. Secondly, the building itself is a fitting and gorgeous space, tired together with a large and well-kept glass staircase serves as a showcase of it's own, as the quality of the view out of the multi-story glass panels increases with every step. Each gallery is unique, and the building embraces this in the exhibits. Finally, there is the roof garden which boasts sculptures and an impressive view of State Street below. Really a wonderful space in which to enjoy art or the city of Madison, itself.
Beautiful museum with free admission. Really enjoyed the Jeffrey Gibson exhibition.
Awesome place with great and interesting artist's.
Really fun variety. Great place to spend an hour checking stuff out. Would recommend!
This is a fantastic, well-curated modern and contemporary art museum located in one of the hippest areas of the Madison Ithsmus. Not only can you stroll through several of the galleries to enjoy the art, but the rooftop is open to enjoy fabulous views of the city and sculture garden! On top of everything, entrance to this museum is completely FREE! Did I mention that this is a free art museum? This is a free art museum. ;)
Wonderful free exhibits, a cool rooftop restaurant, and beautiful items in their gift shop.
Well curated exhibits. Friendly and helpful staff. Inexpensive parking lot nearby.
I went to see a veterans gallery, and also other contemporary art. It was interesting to see all that talent , a nice museum.
Great
Lots of good stuff.
Nice
Wow!
We were looking for some fun and affordable things to do on our last full day in Madison. And nothing is more affordable than free! Free is the best! To add to that, I adore exploring art museums. And I love me some contemporary art!! I mean...really. I was sold in a heartbeat. This was the second museum we visited on the day, following a morning at the Chazen. It is an easy walk between the two, if you are interested, by the way.
Worth every penny!
Probably one of the more interesting contemporary art museums I've been to, granted that's very subjective. I enjoyed the exhibits that I saw here, and it was very well-organized and clean. I particularly enjoyed the sculpture garden on the rooftop.
It was fine. Limited selection for the size of the museum
It's a pretty small Museum, but it's free, and it's got some cool pieces. you probably only need about 30 minutes to see the whole museum, but since all the exhibits rotate fairly frequently, you're likely to see something new the next time you go. They're a bunch of other free small museums in the area, so if you wanted to spend more time Museuming, this is definitely a worthwhile part of your tour of Downtown Madison.
Small but interesting collecting. Nice light + steps + staff. Stop by for sure.
Small but nice, interesting exhibition
This is small museum in the heart of Madison. However their exhibits are beautiful and the space inviting.
Interesting collections
Shopped in the gift shop. Amazing inventory... I love artful items that reflect individuality and creativity. Nice textiles, jewelry, glass,...
Always interesting displays of art!
A wonderful free art museum. Was very clean, well maintained. Exhibits were wonderful. I was impressed with the Wisconsin artists exhibits!
Inclusive art at its best!
Features fantastic modern artists from around the United States. I continue to be blown away by their selection.
WAUKESHA
Worth a visit from anywhere.
Wonderful little gallery/museum! "Big" is beautiful.
A lovely small contemporary art museum. I was very impressed with the amount of Chicago imagist works they have in their permanent collection.
Free entry to museum. You can cover it in 30 minutes. 10 minutes walk from capital building.
3 floors of contemporary art in a beautiful building. Located in downtown Madison, so the location is fantastic. No complaints here, just go an experience the museum yourself. Plan to spend 1-2 hours here.
The museum's store was unique. I couldn't resist buying a bracelet for my wife. Beautiful work made in Israel. The purses from Germany are quite stark but very unique. If you're a shopper you should definitely stop by. The ladies were most helpful.
Beautiful rotating free exhibitions. Love this place!
Enjoyed
Amazing art and ambience. Could spend hours here
What a great museum in the heart of Madison. The exhibitions are not massive, but are well curated and different within each other. I was there while the showing of a specific Frida Kahlo drawing was presented, and it was great. I would certainly recommend it, specially because it is free, which is fantastic.
Nice place people always guarding the art and don't really let you be
Terrific museum, fantastic location!
Very beautiful as well as friendly staff. There was no fee for admission. They did have Foods set up to receive donations. They had only two galleries available to see that were open. They are renovating and getting ready to open the rest within a month. Can't wait to go back and see the rest! It was very clean and I felt very comfortable and relaxed while viewing all of the art. They even had a tablet with a video showing one of the artists conception from the very beginning of his process all the way to a piece of completed work.
This is a very nice, very modern art museum. We chose the Museum for our wedding because of it's awesome architecture, beautiful glass staircase, and the space itself. We got married and had dinner on the rooftop sculpture garden with beautiful views of the Capitol and State Street. Your guests can also mingle around the museum during any down times before, during or after the wedding. We also used Fresco restaurant for our wedding at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) and we were very pleased with their service and coordinating everything for our event. The service was great, prompt, AND they coordinated drop off and pick up times with our other vendors for the day of the wedding. Their team set-up the space for our ceremony and quickly flipped it for dinner, then again for dancing later in the evening. They did a great job the entire night. Everything ran smoothly. Everyone who attended the wedding commented on how great of a time they had and Fresco and MMoCA definitely played a huge role in that! I highly recommend Fresco/MMoCA for parties and/or just dinner! The food is very good and with how happy we are how everything turned out at our wedding we will certainly eat there many many more times!
Cool art for free, what's not to like
These guys do such a fantastic job here. This is certainly one of the treasurers of Madison.
I'm sure this place is great, but I just have no idea what I'm looking at.
Beautiful space but not a whole lot to look at unless there is an event going on. Was there on a Saturday. Only bathroom I was told about was on the third floor, so nothing on the main one. Going up the stairs I found there wasn't much to see on second or third floors. Weird.
A wonderful place for a date night or a solo wander through the galleries. They usually have a great kids activity in one of the galleries. Stop at the top for a snack or a cocktail.
One of the feature is the glass straircase overlooking downtown Madison. I love this place for photoshoot. They have some great art as well
Total museum. Cool exhibits but the cafe upstairs was dead.
wonderful resource. thank you mmoca
Relatively small gallery and exhibition space but "Big" exhibit was very well curated and the roof top sculpture garden and overall layout were fun and interesting
Love this place. It is amazing. The staff is wonderful. They bring artists in for a reception and a talk which is spectacular
(Translated by Google) Various kinds of art products are displayed. It's a very educational place. (Original) 다양한 종류의 미술 제품들이 전시되어있고 교육적으로 굉장히 도움이 많이 되는곳입니다
Nice
Good museum with a rotation of art
Beautiful.
The desk person would not let my father take pictures of my son and me here even though we were not taking commercial photos or for profit. They should be trained better in their own policy.
Very small collection and it looked very boring.
One of the great places to see art in Madison. Free admission but recommend donations. Cool restaurant on the roof. Amazing view during the summer
A great place to visit downtown.
Liked what little I saw, was only going to gift shop for quick look, and get out of wind. Had a children's display of art work, some very well done in the origami style. Gift had many nice pieces to buy, but I'm not currently in the market for a couple of new items, however it was tempting!! Just saw it was free admission, so next when we are in town, or you are in the area... check it out!!
It was an enjoyable experience. I loved the layout if the building.
Nice place to take the kids on a rainy, wet day. Enjoyed the art on display as well.
Scariest Glass Staircase ever!
Great place to spend time. It is clean, the staff are friendly, it is a large beautiful building and it has some very interesting and unique pieces of art. They also have some activities for kids. If you are used to going to very large museums with very famous artists you will be disappointed since they do not have many commonly known artists and paintings.
Good museum, neat pieces, had a good time.
Beautiful museum. Great curator. Check out the Wisconsin Triennial. Proud.
Free interesting artwork
Amazing exhibits.
I only wish it was larger. Such great collections every time I go there.
If you love seeing things from different eras and cultures, this place is for you.
There are always new and interesting exhibits up, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
Excellent art
It's a small museum on the State Street. Definitely, not for kids. You can see the entire museum in 10-30 minutes depending on your interest. Just few blocks from Capitol.
Enjoy state street and incredible art here. It's a amazing building and they bring in great artists. Such a wonderful place to stop by.
Madison's No. 1 for world-quality contemporary art exhibitions. A beautiful space complimented by an intelligent, informed staff. Every visit to this Madison treasure is an awakening inspiration to art & life.
Went with daughters school trip. First time to this area. Love it!! Going back soon!!
The museum featured two artists which allowed me as a viewer to absorb and appreciate their work without being overwhelmed sesorily. It was a real stress free experience. The written summaries drew me in, engaged me with the artists' history, and enhanced the experience. The store was fun.
Excellent Exhibition,
Interesting building and free admission but the exposition itself is not very interesting...
Beautiful art museum with friendly staff.
Lame. I wish I'd waited to give my donation until after I went through the exhibit. The only impressive thing there was the building itself.
Great place. Loved the artwork. Amazing artists, extremely peaceful.
Terrific museum connected to the performing arts center
Pretty neat little museum. Definitely worth checking out. They have events and music sometimes.
Interesting collection. Not very big but since admission is free you can enjoy it and then feel free to leave and have coffee in one of the nearby shops. Looks like an interesting restaurant on the top floor but wasn't open when we were there.
Wonderful gem of a museum.
The art gallery down the street has better art.
WOW ! Great stuff !
Cool
Great show on social protest. Go!
(Translated by Google) Modern art museum in the center of Madison. There are four exhibitions on the first and second floors, and the restaurant on the third floor has a good view. It's free for all visitors, and the interiors of the building are impressive, so if you're into Madison, it's worth a visit. There are no such famous works or collections, but mainly exhibitions based on one artist. We have a lot of friendly materials for children and it is a place where we can leisurely spend time because there are not many people.
Meandered around hallways looking for MMOCA’s display of more than a hundred portraits and finally found said show by meandering through Nathaniel Mary Quinn’s display which was both compelling and intriguing. Plan to make ample time for viewing both. If anything gleaned from this visit was idea that contemporary art is evolving and morphing in strange and interesting ways. Was there on a weekday surrounded by groups of school kids and they were commendably attentive to what they were being told, awestruck, I hope. Go, it’s free and know that Overture staff have no clue where shows are.
Do yourself a favor and stop in for the free exhibits.
Beautiful space, with some fine permanent installations and frequently interesting special exhibits.
Very beautiful place to enjoy art
Great
If you read about this place on Wikipedia and came to see the dragonfruit painting by Frida Khalo, know that it's not on permanent display. It does hold some pretty good contemporary art though.
Beautiful venue.
Something for everyone
Art and architecture in harmony.
you know I love me some free art
Excellent free museum, if you enjoy contemporary art.
AMAZING
Fun, free place to stop and enjoy some art
The Museum is great location for art and for roof top gatherings.
It was pretty. Very informative.
There's a wide variety of art to look at , so if you don't like one thing, there are many other things to look at, and the people who work there are pretty nice too.
I went to an event here and was very disappointed.
Has many interesting pieces of art. Worth the visit. 2 hrs is a good time at this place
Great downtown location.
Awesome!
I truly enjoy the collections here. Also, for an event (wedding) location, it is a great spot.
Love the D Butterfield in the window!
Great location near the capitol with stunning artwork
This museum has some great work on display. I especially appreciated that guests could enter free of charge. I will definitely be returning in the future.
Not exactly my cup of tea but a very interesting, and free museum
Not impressed at all. Disturbing exhibit on main floor.
Good vibes
I really like the paper cuts exhibit!
Loved the museum Will have to come back in future
It's the best art in Madison. Taking the glass stairs is well worth the time and effort.
There isn't much here.
Great place.
Madison 's a small city. Our artistic institutions are not. MMoCA is among the best in the world. And I love the horse.
Really amazing exhibits, movies, events, gift shop.
The major exhibits were closed as new works were going in, so the available works were quite limited. Still, with free admission it is worth an hour or two. If all the exhibits are open, perhaps somewhat longer.
We drove 350 miles to see a Frida Kahlo painting and they had removed it but never mentioned in their website. That sad, but their ongoing exhibition was nice.
Really awesome exhibits

Its symbolism varies according to the depth of the mind. All works are so. Because they are changeable, they lead to indescribable expression. Thus the depth of art is infinite. Is there any depth in the art of pen? In general, the lines and dots from the tip of the pen Will it be possible to have artistry? You need to think deeply about this. Pen's art begins with the nature of the fundamental colors of nature. From the essence of color, the harmony of black and white is the fundamental of nature. As you can't see the color in the dark without lighting It is the intrinsic function of light that makes it possible to distinguish colors. Because of this, the spirit is drawn in the white light. White or light is a mixed image of spirit. Natural color is black. As green is the intrinsic color of the plant Burned charcoal is an essential color that remains black. There can be no movement of life in absolute darkness. Black is heterogeneous and hostile to life. If black is the essence of nature, black is the spiritual image of death. Contrast is achieved when white combines with black. If you paint black on a white screen, it will be transferred to the white screen. When it encounters a black line, a black face, white resurrects. You can express spirit through black. Spirit is the only thing that can be imported into black, and the colors of spirit and soul are black and white. When combined, it is mysterious. And the art of the pen is the nature of the fundamental colors of nature It starts from and ends at the fundamental nature of color. The fundamental essence is infinite and eternal, and the harmony of black and white is artistic. You can breathe alive enough. It has been refined and completed over time It must be possible after this is achieved, and a perfect melody containing the soul must be premised. Great exhibits that change fairly often and it was free at least when I went
Free exhibits open to the public and there's a good deal of art - enough to take an hour or two to walk through
Gallery Nights are interesting
Really fantastic free modern art museum just steps away from the Madison Capitol Building! Four floors of rotating exhibits, plus the great views from the rooftop sculpture garden cannot be missed! Managable to finish in an hour or so, but I've rarely seen a free museum with art of this caliber.
