Perfect Historical Spot

This museum provides great educational content about the background, events, and results of the mine wars. They provide a much more respectful and complete perspective than I've seen elsewhere. The building is small, but they packed it with historical artifacts, old pamphlets, discussions of history, etc. If this is a long trip for you, then I suggest planning in advance to go early & take advantage of other nearby museums, etc.

I drive all the way from Pikeville Ky to see this place and they were closed when they were supposed to be open. The guy at local business said they have trouble keeping help. Call before you drive to make sure someone is there

The staff were extremely helpful with any and all questions and even recommended other places to visit around town for the events of the mine wars. They had a good variety of objects displayed for the space they had

They have a lot of old stuff in the place that dealt with the coal mines

Mike Keller

Tells the story of the labor troubles in early 20th century West Virginia. A lot of info packed into a small space. Learn about the miners' strikes, how police chief Sid Hatfield stood up to the mine owners and was murdered on the courthouse steps, how the miners' marched to Blair Mountain and the U.S. Army was called in to quell civil unrest.

Gene Sellards

Don't know, didn't go.

Douglas Keller

Nice place very interesting

I am amazed by what a great job they have done on this museum. Everyone involved has put their heart into it and it certainly shows. If you have a trip to the area planned be sure to go stop in and see what a little town with a huge heart can do when they put their minds together.
