This museum was great! We were greeted by a wonderful host into a clean and orderly information area. The museum was well laid out with lots of places to go to avoid other patrons. Some exhibits had more information than was needed and could be overwhelming (torpedo exhibit and the ocean exhibit) but there was enough fun information for all ages to keep everyone occupied. I would definitely recommend this museum to everyone!
Great learning moment
My 4 year loved it here. Being able to show my family what I do without having to go into the boat.
Great naval museum with excellent exhibits and displays.
Great museum with tons of informative exhibits!
Interresting and charming.
Great place to learn about
If you like museum and history, go here!
Great place if you are interested in Naval underwater history. And it is free.
Amazing compilation of underwater exploration and history
Very good. Lots of information. Absolutely worth the trip!
So much interesting history and fun exhibitions. Great gift shop, and super clean facilities.
Very cool and interesting
Great place to visit when in the area. I have attended many retirement ceremonies here, a great venue for that sort of event.
Professionally run and designed. There's a lot of great info here that you may otherwise never discover. They also have a periscope hooked up to a rooftop camera!
This is a free museum just outside the base! Interesting and informative! Bring the whole family!
Features significant historical props and information that create an environment rich with both novel curiosity and a sense of adventure from one exhibit to the next. The tour guides are extensively interactive, and there is very little that requires much explanation besides that which can be seen. Also, the gift shop is miraculously not overpriced (!!!) and features a variety of wonderful and appealing items to take for souvenirs.
Interesting and kind friendly. And it's free
Because of how well done the museum has been presented and put together in general
Extremely knowledgeable staff
This is one of my favorite museums. It has the professionalism and science content that I expect from the submarine service. Just be careful that your gps doesn't try to take you to the main entrance to the missile sub base to get there. The museum is right outside the security gate near Keyport.
First time visiting here. Was a great experience!
Outstanding. Everything you ever wanted to know. Plan multiple trips to absorb it all.
Very clean, lots Of parking, Many things to see related to navy submarine life, Volunteers are very helpful.
An accredited naval museum ideal for youth. Exhibits primarily focused on underwater work and history not just warfare. Very educational and free.
I love this place. It's full of cool stuff and its layout is great. Clean and professional. The auditorium is great for public events. You don't need a military identification card to gain access either.
Free, wonderful educational Navy day!
If you are visiting near Bainbridge Island or Poulsbo, you should definitely go here! The exhibits are thoughtful, professional, and well designed. Kudos to the exhibit manager. I enjoyed the huge submarine tail at the entrance and the working periscope inside the submarine control room. I think the torpedo collection there is one of the largest in the country! There's scientific Naval submersibles in the parking lot. The naval animal exhibit was particularly interesting because I hadn't ever heard of Navy trained dolphins who helped divers discover and explore different areas of the ocean.
We really enjoyed checking out this museum. Tons of naval artifacts, thoughtfully laid out. The staff were very nice, the kids area kept my son thoroughly entertained.
Very informative. Exhibits are well organized for easy viewing. Admissions is free. If you go, sign the guest book and leave a donation!
Not quite as techically rich as I would like, but a great introduction to the undersea world. The price is right (free); plan on spending some time to cover the extensive displays. Gift shop has good merchandise, less tacky than some other museums I've seen, and reasonably priced.
Amazingly well-designed and detailed for a free museum. We easily spent around two hours there. I was most impressed by the variety of topics addressed, from the history of early diving, to ocean currents and marine life, to the expected array of modern submarines. This is one museum I wouldn't mind seeing again.
Little museum of modern undersea objects..easy to spend hours in..
There are a number if interesting exhibits. Unfortunately there where a number of the interactive exhibits that were under repair. But the museum is free. Definitely worth a visit.
An interesting museum with everything from dolphins helping the Navy to current technology in missiles.
One of the best naval museums I've visited.
This place us so much fun and educational.
A smaller museum, but densely packed. Very unique artifacts and stories from across the Navy. An absolutely must for anyone interested in maritime or military history. There are even a few hands on exhibits that give you a peek into the world of undersea operations.
Loved it. Grandson really enjoyed it!
Well laid out, friendly staff. It is free to visit.
A really great small Museum with free admission. We found ourselves here on a rainy spring break, and this Museum had something for everyone. A fascinating journey through our undersea evolution, all the way through to modern safety techniques and using animal helpers for a rescue missions. We loved the Interactive sub model!
We haven't been to this museum in a long time. All exhibits have been updated and look very modern. I'm personally fascinated with the torpedo technology. The addition of ocean biology is great too. And it's all FREE!
Totally wasn't expecting this caliber of a museum in this remote of a location. The exhibits are fantastic and the building & displays are impeccable. Free admission, open daily at 10, really a great stop if you are in the area, and worth the drive if you are not. I was taken aback by the history, artifacts and the education of submarine development, application, and underwater rescue that are delved into here.
Wonderful and interactive exhibits. Friendly staff.
Great stop for kids and very educational. Lots of cool things in the gift shop
Here for a concert. Great acoustics. Loved the Navy Band
Actually I live by here and love to go here and see all the information with the damily
This is an excellent museum! If the average person were to take the time to read and look at all the exhibits in detail, it would take several visits for them on see everything this place has to offer. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Definitely worth the time and effort to go and see. -EDIT- We, my family and I, love this museum. My wife and I had visited it in the summer of 2015 and ear marked it on the map as "a must see again place" if we were back in the area. Now, in the summer of 2019, we have come back to the Washington coastal area with our son in tow and are making another visit. Lots of positive changes have occurred over the few years since I've first seen the museum, mainly more details have been added to the main exhibits. Wonderful way to see the history of underwater exploration and defense, something for all ages to see and interact with, and, best of all, free to the public.
So much history shared here! Admission is free and clean environment. Great place! Thank you to all of you for your dedicated Service!
We were very glad that we visited this museum while visiting our Navy son stationed in Bremerton. We spent about 2 hours in the museum and found it very interesting and educational. No admission charge but we left a donation.
Very nice free Navy museum. Great gift shop with good prices. Friendly docents.
Very interesting. A wealth of information. Amazingly, free to the public. A lot of history there.
Very interesting museum with a lot to see and learn. Unique collection of pieces
Great museum! Lots to see, multiple aspects of undersea projects and history. Expected to spent an hour, but ended up spending over two hours here.
So amazing!
My son loves coming here, he learns something new every time. His favorite part is the control room and pretending to sink "enemy" ships.
This is a fantastic place to stop.I highly recommend it! The Navy has done a fabulous job of letting you experience the undersea world. I highly recommend it for everyone and particularly for anybody who have family that served in the Navy and especially who have served aboard submarines. Submarine exhibit are very informative and very well done. While we were there they had an exhibit for the Thresher disaster. What a moving tribute to those brothers that paid the ultimate price in service protecting our freedom in tbe Untied States.
Interesting exhibits...lots of naval history.
Really informative and really cool items on display. I particularly enjoyed learning about how the Navy has trained sea lions and dolphins to assist them in rescues and other underwater endeavors.
Great place to visit and learn. Lots of interesting subjects. Good for all ages
This museum is worth a stop if you are near Poulsbo or road tripping through Kitsap County. Free admission and you will learn about our US military defense system in place here in the Puget Sound region. Impressive displays about marine animal help in rescue missions and intensive deep sea research are worth stopping here, even if you have reservations about military defense spending. Come learn what your tax dollars are funding.
Submarines are really neat, and I learned a lot about them. I guess you could say it was "educa"-ting!
Great place to take the kids and an amazing amount of information regarding underwater weaponry, rescue, education.
Well worth the visit and extremely informative for me, I enjoy the history and seeing how things have changed through the years with technological differences
Amazing museum of submarines and related underwater warfare. Spent two days going through it all because I like subs!
Loved seeing all the naval and undersea items on display. Gift shop and rest rooms on premise and plenty of free parking.
Nice place, staff are very friendly and informative. Great job.
I like the gentleman that helped me. I believe he said his name was Patrick. He was very nice and gives great hugs.
The museum is a little small but is a great time. There is a lot of information on how submarines began and what explorers did. There are some interactive sets for the kids and videos for those of us who don’t like to read everything. Fun for the whole family!!
Great place to learn about the history of the submarine
This is a wonderful place. Extensive history and inventory of diving vessels. Love the uniformly crushed styrofoam cups.
Had a great time walking around. And for free you can't beat it. Great history of submersibles and the trials and warfare that go along with it. The breakdowns 4 the torpedos is awesome. Good job guys. The history on service mamals was interesting.
What a great experience for both me and my kids!!! My only regret was that we came in with only 45 minutes till closing. One day we'll come back and spend more time.
Best military museum in Washington state.
Fun, free, informative place. The volunteers are all very kind. There is a ton to see and read, but you can also stop here for a quick visit with kids.
Fun little free museum to learn about some US Naval Submarine history and sea life. My kids and my niece and nephews (ages 4-10) had a blast! Would totally go again (and plan to).
Lots of cool stuff here to learn about diving, salvage, and naval history.
Good place to take anyone who loves the history of navel equipment.
Good museum ... not very large, so doesn't touch on all areas of interest. Traces the history of submarines and submarine warfare. Development of torpedoes is a major topic--quite informative for those interested. Outside are a couple of deep-sea research submersibles. And admission is free. All on one level (now).
Awesome museum, the staff are super friendly and super helpful. All of the displays are clean and very straight forward.
Awesome. Well worth the FREE price. Would gladly pay to visit this place.
This Place is nice We attend our Niece Collage Graduation At Murdock Auditorium They have a Musium next to it
I was the q00 to 1300 docent...lots of visitors....including eight from Vietnam. They were delighted with our Mandarin brochure/guide
Great to find a free meseum. Very meet desplays and nice staff. Maybe a little dated as meseums go.
incredible! Entertaining and educational. Needs time, even 2 trips just to absorb it all.
This exhibit/museum was wonderful. I could have easily spent all afternoon 3-4 hours learning about naval history.
Nice staff and educational fun. The displays change so you can go every few months and experience something new. The kids love it and it is free so on rainy days with nothing to do this is on the list!
You really should go see this place!
Excellent timely exhibits. Very well done write-ups for each exhibit. Helpful, knowledgeable staff.
This is a really interesting museum (and free). Would highly recommend stopping if you are in the area. In addition to the (expected) subs, they have very cool exhibits on history of mines, torpedoes, diving, and dolphins.
Great museum, involved a lot more ocean science than I was expecting, I spent almost 4 hours there and wished I could have stayed longer but they closed at 4pm.
Awesome museum with lots of information and history about the US Navy Submarine program.
Expansive display of submarines, torpedoes and rovers...the history and use that is unknown to most people
The Naval Undersea Museum is a gem! It's a modern, lightfilled space with interesting, educational exhibits. There are hands on exhibits that kids like. Exhibits do change, so it's worth visiting more than once. The docents are helpful whether you're a first time visitor or a regular. We love the Navy Band Northwest concerts that occur here regularly. There is no charge for either the museum or concerts! Even the gift shop is worth checking out thoroughly as you can find unusual books and items that may suit the hard-to-shop-for person on your list.
Excellent and enjoyable. So much knowledge about submarines and marine life. More than just a military museum.
This place was really cool do you like history. This is a good history lesson. The trinkets at the gift store were very reasonable unlike other gift stores
Great experience. Anybody interested in the Navy or history will spend all day here.
Great place for the history of submarine warfare. Many interesting exhibits. The price is right too - FREE.
This place was beyond awesome!
Just perfect little museum near a naval base. Very friendly volunteer staff. Perfect spot to spent a few hours reading the history of undersea naval warfare
This was so much more than i expected.
This place is HUGE! Totally worth the stop if you're in the area. It's FREE and there is so much information. Well curated, i would love to see more events held in that space.
This is one of the coolest museums I have ever been to. Lots of interesting facts and exhibits about submarines. My son and I went with our Scout troop, we had a blast learning about submarines. I can't wait to take my other two kids and see how much fun they'll have too.
One of the coolest and most unique museums you will ever go to, this place has so many cool artifacts. this museum is located out in the middle of nowhere in the middle of some beautiful country, the drive out here will Delight you. many of the volunteers in the museum are former submariners who are filled with knowledge
Kind of small but well designed, interesting exhibits. And can't beat free!
I have a slightly biased view as a former submariner, however, it pays a good deal of attention to the history of this type of warfare that normally goes unmentioned. One of the opening exhibits pays ommage to the Thresher incident. For kids/learning, they have a portion of the exhibit that goes over a lot of the science behind submarines. There is also a control room, a large variety of torpedoes used over the years, an area for kids to read books and play dress up. The marine mammal exhibit is an interesting look at their use in the Puget Sound that is a very different take from what you get in an aquarium. Very excited for the future NR-1 control room exhibit.
One of the most awesome museum's around. The exhibits are so interesting and interactive. Highly recommend
So much to see and learn! We need to come back when we have more time
Very informative museum. They have things that would interest the pure Navy person. They have a history of diving, submarines, missiles, war under water, and more. I loved the dolphins and sea lions exhibit. This exhibit talks about how the animals help find land mines from prior wars, spot intruders, and help find wrecks. It has about how how people can go under the water and not suffer the bends as well as my other favorite part which was the sea lab. Really cool museum!
Great place to take kids, you will learn alot.
Very informative well curated & it's free to boot. Lots of science to learn. You'll need 4 hrs to really enjoy it.
Great place to visits, learn a lot hear.
Their is so much submarine history in those 4 walls!! I could not see or read all the information in just one visit. There are volunteers that share the history of the submarines with people as you first come in and throughout museum. Well worth visiting over and over!
Pretty cool. It's free! There's a lot to learn and read, perhaps hours worth of reading. We didn't want to spend that long, so kinda just breezed through and checked it out a bit. The back room is the coolest ;)
Much more than naval history. Marine biology and diving physiology covered with interesting displays.
A great overview of history and awesome displays
Very good museum. Informative and interactive.
It's a great place for a day of learning and exploring. There was a lot of redundancy in the museum that got boring after a while.
Children and adults can enjoy this. A lot of information for both and lots of hands on things. Really a fantastic time and the scenery around is fantastic as well.
A true gem of a place. I could have spent a lot more time there. The only downside, is that it was under construction. Even at that, it is 5 star worthy.
Absolutely fascinating museum. Wish I could have spent even more time with all the many wonderful exhibits. I’ll definitely come back at my next opportunity. Worth the drive if you live in Seattle or the Eastside (take a ferry and enjoy spending several hours here, then peruse the nearby towns). The docents at the front were very nice and knowledgeable.
Fantastic. As a kid I read everything about undersea exploration and to actually see some of this stuff is amazing to me. And Free!
Not enough time to see everything! Very interesting
Like how they showed the use of dolphins and seals to help underwater! Also other new exhibits.
Self paced walking tour. Provides some interesting history.
Actually pretty cool just did it for something fun and different and it turned out to be exactly that. I would highly recommend it but plan other things for the day because it's not huge
Uncle got pinned, amazing immersive experience
Unexpected. Was a pleasant & educational afternoon.
Love it very informative, definitely love that my son was part of an exhibit!!!
Clean and colorful very well organized and informative
Hidden gem museum! Very well organized and presented.
We chanced on this at random but was worth the stop. My son was well intrigued seeing real torpedoes and other interesting works of the US Navy. This is free and so worth it. On the day of our visit we actually got to talk to some former officers who had been on one of the submarines. Awesome!
There is so much to see, great learning experience for the whole family!
Loved this museum! Very, very well done. Lovely. All around. I especially love the interactive area for kids to design and build.
If you haven't gone yet to this Museum definitely go there!
Very interesting science of the waters of our world.
Excellent place to learn something new. Pretty close to the main highway and well worth the detour if you have the time.
All kinds of cool, interesting exhibits.
Amazing museum. I learned so much! Well done!
Great place to visit
This is a free museum that we took all too long to visit. It would be a great place to bring kids as they have something for everyone including "hands on" exhibits. The staff are volunteers and happy to answer any questions.
Free with lots of interesting exhibits
Super cool museum, the kids had a blast pretending to run the submarine, very informative and hands on.
What fun & super informational! The kids had a great time, now i just need to go back without them so i have time to look at everything they just ran past. Clean, easy to navigate through. Restrooms, drinking fountain, gift shop, coloring area for kids, dress up & play station also.
Great learning for my children to see what the Navy can do both with machine and animals.
Brought back a lot of memories from serving on Fast attack Submarine in early 70's. Neat to see the Conning tower of Sturgeon class Sub. Whole experience was educational.
Alot bigger inside, really good for torpedo history.
Awesome place! Free but donations are appreciated. My kids loved it too! They thought it would be lame but not at all! Was a very educational place. The dolphins and seals helping to keep us safe was something few realize!
Well done science and history exhibits. I was most fascinated with the use of dolphins and Sea Lions to find and retrieve objects deep in the ocean.
Very interesting. Helpful staff
Staff is wonderful. Museum was interesting and the kids loved the interactive submarine area.
Very good presentation, FREE!
Fun place to learn about the Navy. Especially cool to see the animals that help the Navy. Hands on projects for kids and a beautiful gift shop.
A piece of history seldom seen. Somethimg we should all know about. The risks and the challenges. The evolution of extreme engineering and people who risk their lives for all of us and our way of life. The hidden horror of a war being fought a glimpse into a war that could be.
It has more to offer than you'd expect.
Great free museum of actual torpedoes, submarine technology and the human side of a submariners life. Triumphs and tragedies well told with very nicely done and maintained exhibits and film clips. The older history of undersea warfare is particularly interesting and they have some unique exhibits of artifacts. Place is large. I've been back 3 times and haven't seen everything. Kinda off the beaten track, so eat lunch before you go- there's no food there or even close. There are huge history making submersibles in the parking lot. Don't miss them.
Everyone should visit if they have the chance. Obviously a well thought out and funded museum... it houses some of the US's most important history... for free.
Fun place to go. Plenty to look at. Always something new to learn about.
