My 10-year-old daughter and I visited on a weekday and were spoiled by the docents who gave us an individual tour, demonstrated each invention, and told wonderful stories about the inventors and users of some of the equipment. Three different docents, each a retired engineer, took us around to show us their favorite devices. We went to a late lunch and then came back for more! My daughter especially liked revisiting the interactive exhibits on our own to repeat what she had learned from the docents and to try out new variations, especially in the static room. This museum is well worth a visit, especially on a slow day. A great field trip for home schoolers.

Great place to visit if you have out of town guests! One of the top things to do in Bellingham. Lots of cool stuff to learn and they even have a huge play room upstairs for kids if your young ones need a small break from all the "look but don't touch"--although there are several interactive displays that invite touching too. It's pretty much a "self tour" situation, but sometimes they have friendly staff on hand to explain stuff too.

Engaging staff, lots of fascinating exhibits and interactive areas. The demos are great - make sure to ask for some from a docent when you go. The staff are also really knowledgeable and very passionate. I recommend setting aside about an hour and a half, preferably on a day when they aren't very busy, so you can really take it all in.

Really cool place. There are so many cool things to look at, experiments to try, a small library and play area, and they usually do a kind of electricity "demonstration" which is super neat. This place isn't great for little kids though. Seriously, don't bring them; they'll be bored to tears and will touch all the things they are not supposed to touch. I'd say age 10 and up will have a good time. I could have easily spent at least half my day there, or more, but I brought a 5 year old, so...

Interesting place but overpriced. The live show is heavy on drama but light on action and information (and not the full hour). I have attended much better similar shows elsewhere. Some of the exhibits are fascinating, however, especially where a docent is there to help.

We had a bit of time to kill in Bellingham and decided to explore this wonderful gem of a museum in downtown Bellingham. It has an amazing array of electrical gadgets and history and we spent a couple of hours exploring it all. Alas, we were not there when they were doing their electric show but the docents were well versed in their subject and a font of knowledge.

The SPARK Museum seems a little sleepy at first, but once you start really exploring and reading, you become immersed in the history of electricity, radio, and the ideas that shaped the modern world. The best part is the show, which costs an extra $4 and is worth every penny. For an additional $20 you can experience static discharge like no other as you enter a Faraday Cage and safely take a bolt or two from the MegaZaper, a giant Tesla Coil.

Awesome experience, great teaching experience from the beginning of radio and television to present day lots of hands on and the demonstration that costs extra is very cool but make sure you take hearing protection it gets very loud. The place isn't very noticeable there isn't much signage so if you don't use GPS you'll not find it easily.

The collection is exhaustive. If you like looking at radio tubes, Morse Code signalers, and early electric machines, then it's awesome. I was particularly drawn to the early sound-recording devices and players, cylanders and victrolas and such. But there's an awful lot of it and it's tiring to look at. The big show, done a couple of times per weekend I gather, is pretty good. I was underwhelmed with parts of it and I think it could be a bit shorter (ours went overtime by a good 30 minutes) but other parts were incredibly exciting.

Awesome experience!!! One of the staff who talked to us was obviously very knowledgeable about the things in the museum, and even demonstrated things to us right there! He was also quite nice to a child, and was overall very friendly. Turned out he did the demonstration for that day too! Even if you aren't interested in anything else in that museum, definitely go for the demonstration. No spoilers, but the instrument they play at the end is 100% not meant to be an instrument and that is why it is so amazing.

I've been to many many museums, this collection and its volunteers make this on my top 4 from across the nation. Definitely worth a visit, a must take for kids, especially on a Saturday when you can enter the cage of doom! There is plenty of hands on for you to do. Total must see and for a great price!

This place is incredible. The sheer volume and diversity of exhibits is awesome. There are hands-on activities for kids to help explain the science/physics at work in electrical processes. Docents are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and personable. WELL worth the modest admission price. My recommendation would be to allow a couple hours to be able to absorb it all at a leisurely pace. Also worth noting: there is a helpful map organizing exhibits by a color-coded dot system I strongly recommend taking a peek at. It tells you which exhibits are the rarest -- some are among only a few of their kind in existence -- as well as additional classifying information.

This was a really great small museum. We took 4 kids here - ages 5-8 - and fun was had by all. We got lucky and happened to be there when a show was going on for summer camp. Usually the show is only on weekends. The docents are passionate and knowledgeable.

Saw a dad and son practically getting a private tour with all the additional info that comes with helpful, knowledgeable staff (we slowed down to listen in for awhile). Great museum full of interesting electrical artefacts. As an engineer I do understand much of the technology, however I do feel more information is required to explain the in depth of much of the museum. I often felt I was simply looking at an old piece of technology and had no idea of its significance. The titanic section was fascinating, and the staff are very helpful.

Disclaimer: I am writing this review as a DC resident. DC is a city known for their hundreds of museums and many of them are free. Museums in our nation's capital are big! Spark Museum is a decent small town museum. I went on a Thursday afternoon and paid $12 for general admission and the spark show. The museum has two floors. The first floor is a mix of items on display (with a few historical items) and interactive exhibits that keep you entertained for 4-5 seconds. The second floor is fun and games for kids. The spark show was just under an hour and not really fit for younger kids. My nephews ages 6 and 7 thought 20% of the show was exciting and 80% boring. The man who runs it knows his stuff, but he talks a lot without explaining what's going on so it's easy for kids to lose interest. A few highlights from the trip: 1) In the record section, a museum staff member showed us how each player works. He was engaging and fascinating! 2) The second floor offered us the opportunity to make a fun quiz using electrical wires to show what answers matched with what question. My nephews enjoyed that! If you're looking for things to do, stop by, but don't expect to come back more than once.

Awesome museum. Staff was really engaged and you could tell they liked what they do. Went to the spooky science bit and my 7 and 10 year old really enjoyed it. My two year old was a bit too young, but they say right on the door it isn't the best for toddlers, but we sat and read some of the books upstairs and tapped some messages on the Morse code machine and played on the theremin. I'd go again without kids to read more about everything because there's a lot there!

I really enjoyed going to the SPARK Museum as it was such an enjoyable experience. When I first walked in there was a timeline about how electricity started and some of the science behind it. I also got some review of the science of atoms and as well as hands on experiences with understanding on how electricity works. Later they had a show that was very interactive and enjoyable. There were some need to see attractions during the show that I would recommend. There was also a lot of antique artifacts there for people that enjoy history. I was given an opportunity to learn about the different machines that offered music in the last two centuries. The people there were also very knowledgeable and social with the attendees. One of the interns there was very informed on everything and wasn't afraid to show me as well as some other young adults some of the inventions he was interested in and gave very detailed explanations on how to use them the same intern also explained the sound machines of the 1880-1920's with great detail and kept it interactive. I would recommend this museum to anyone with a interest in STEM or history as well as an interest in learning. I would also love to come back again with some friends as well.

This museum has a lot of old devices & replicas of devices related to electricity & phone going back to initial discoveries by scientist of electrical properties. Also good section on early stages of wireless communication & telegraphs. Covers early days of radio & TV also. A moderate number of interactive displays. They have a 20+ minute program demonstrating various electrical properties on some days. I heard several visitors speak positively of this, but I did not get to attend. My wife found it only moderately interesting. Those who have strong interest in science hx or science will be the happiest with tour. Also outstanding if you like seeing old devices. Very limited coverage of cell phones & more recent technology.

Excellent place, a gem hidden in the town. You can learn so much about the history of electricity and see the real stuffs as the developments advance. Very friendly and helpful staff too. Very informative on the history of electricity and man. From discovery to manipulation, to new tech. Beyond that, it's damn fun. There are many interactive displays that are fun to mess around with, while teaching you about electricity/old tech. Some examples include a theremin, telegraph, spark makers, etc. I would highly recommend visiting the lightning show. They make music. With giant electric arcs! It's like going to a hard rock show but the guitars are swapped for abrasive lightning noise. I will say, not the best place for kids, it's very fun for adults, but if you can't read or don't have an appreciation of history yet, it's gonna be a trudge. My only complaint is a couple displays needed fixing, but weren't labeled as so. For example, i had to ask to learn this about one old tv.

This is an aficionado's dream. Interactive displays and tons of authentic paraphinila demonsrate the discovery of electricity from Leyden jars through radio... and beyond. WARNING: This is real technology and history and not a dumbed down science fair display! There are many interactive displays, but they are adult themed and young kids are likely to be bored hours before absorbing all the great history here.

This a super well run Museum. The displays are georgious, well lit & labeled, sound quality of the naritives is clear & loud just enough. Spotless clean, wheelchair accessible main floor and bathrooms. Docents are super friendly, patient with kids and those adults too) interacting with the kids and parents beautifully. The equipment and such on display is amazing. My brother and I giddy with joy seeing things that we know about or have used (yeah, I'm old as dirt) we did not time it right to see the big show, but it sounded great with the audience reacting loudly and obviously enjoyed it. You can hear it setting off bursts of power as you walk the main displays. We will be back for sure.

Exhibits on the history of electricity, with many authentic scientific instruments. If you can, catch a demonstration in the auditorium; sparks fly! The staff is enthusiastic. I'd like to go again and have a scientist explain more about the apparatus and electromagnetism. Probably no other museum in the world with a comparable collection!

Loved the place. My sweetie got a little overwhelmed by the shear amount of artifacts but loved it as well. Not to be missed really. We arrived a little to early to watch the big show with the huge Tesla coil but will be back to take better advantage. If you are interested in early industrial history, the role that electricity played and the "war" between Tesla, Westinghouse and Edison this place is for you. Well layed-out. Don't let the admission price scare you away, it's worth it.

Museum was fun to poke around in, I would visit again. I would not, however, see the show again unless it was condensed from an hour and 10 minutes down to about 25. For as many gadgets there seemed to be, there was entirely too much talking (with looonng pauses and pacing the stage to look for things). Also the raffle process could be streamlined. Of course the mega zapper was cool and the very first balloon trick, but I wanted to leave 25 minutes into the show.

This is a fun place on your own or with the family. There is a lot of history and learning offered here. There are even some hands on experiments you can try. The staff are knowledgeable and ready to answer question you may have. Well worth the price of admission.

This museum have a lot of rare item and that you will never think of. And give you more understanding about the history in front of you rather than read on book or internet. The museum is not very big, but you do need take time to read through all the equipments because is very interesting. They have a early portable communication system that need to carry on the car and that is cell phone we call it right now. And also have some musical instruments require use your hand movement to create music with out touch.

A gem of a museum. A treasure trove of gadgets and information with lots of demonstrations and hand-ons. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, especially Ken. The owner is a radio buff, and knows how to operate all of the gadgets in his collection. The 15 min show is pretty interesting, showcasing electrical light and sound tricks. Plan for 2 hours especially if u take the tour with a docent. If u have kids go with Ken, he kept my 6 years old daughter mesmerized for 1 hour.

We were from Taiwan and went to visit the museum on the way from Seattle back to Vancouver to take the airplane next day. Actually we did not plan this for this trip but we were all happy to stop by. Mark was a terrific guide and helped explained a lot regarding the artifacts. Definitely I recommend anyone to go and visit. I believe adults and children will all have fun. Say hello to Mark!

Spark museum is very interesting and fun IF you like history. They have a short Tesla coil demonstration and a lot of the display items are interactive. The entry fee states $16 per adult but the cashier only charged us $16 total for the two of us. If you are in Bellingham, Wa. this is definitely a worth while.place to spend an afternoon
