Great place to take young kids to have fun exploring science and the world around them.
Great place to take the kids but parking isn't available in the parking lot during weekdays. So bring some change because you will need to park on the street. Not a big deal, just be ready.
Small in comparison of the other children's museums but still fun with friendly staff
Great place for kids to learn and to be kids great place to spend time with your kids
Great place for kids. Plenty of seating for adults
Alway a great place to take the kids. Wish they would change out things more. But still great and the kids love it.
Great place for kids to explore and have a fun day.
Bring your kids or tell your friends with kids. The best part of this museum is that it really, really is for kids, including playground equipment behind the building. Weekends attract birthday parties to the party rooms on the main and basement floors.
The children's museum is wonderful! I took a 3yo and 4yo and they had a great time. They particularly loved the water tables.
I definitely need to come here more often! My 4 year old absolutely loves it here and my 3 month old loves how much is going on. It is pay by donations. (:
The museum is great. Lots of great areas to play for kids and a perfect place to go on a rainy day. Many different activities including an amazing water section inside. We stayed for 2 hours and didn't get bored The only negatives are it can be hard to park outside and it can get very crowded. Definitely the best place to take young kids on a rainy day in Tacoma
Great place for kids, wide variety of free roam activities including a wet play area and magnetic building blocks (i feel like that shows the diversity well enough)
Absolutely wonderful experience for myself and grandson
Great place for kids from toddler to about 10. Older kids may like the art room and the building room. It gets a bit noisy but no more than a indoor playground. Exciting exploration areas.
Was great but it's not to clean
Awesome place to take the Lil ones. It's pay as you can so donate what you have or not. What a great place. Let's play!
Awesome place for the kids. Pay what you can. Parking during weekdays are not allowed; will be towed. Park at Tacoma Art Museum (TAM); only few min walk.
Our first time here. My son had a blast!
Great place and they only ask for a donation to get in. My 1.5 year old daughter loved it. It was crowded but parents kept close eyes on their kids so it worked. The staff works hard to make this place special. They did a great job picking up and cleaning and helping whet needed. THEY ARE NOT YOUR BABYSITTER. This is not a daycare. Parental involvement is required.
Tacoma's small children's museum is great. It is just the right size to spend an hour or three and just let the kids run. There is a place for tinkering and art, a water play some, and a few large interactive play places. I really enjoy how clean it is and how nice the staff is. We go often and always enjoy sitting in a window seat watching the kids play.
My kid and I enjoyed this place and it is great that they allow donation as cost to enter. This helps those who don't have the financial resources to afford going to the high cost places just to let their children play
Kind of small, but SO cute. Our kids love it here. We had a birthday party here and they did an excellent job hosting it at a really reasonable price. Highly recommend.
Smaller than the one in Olympia, but they charge by donation. Amazing pirate ship inside. Great place to take the very young.
Good family friendly dining.
Loved this place. Great interaction with the kids and crafts for the whole family. It's a must to see
Lots of fun activities for the kids to enjoy! Each section is just big enough for the parents to watch and sometimes join in with the little ones. Both my toddlers, 3.5 and 1.5 years old had a great time!
Great place to bring the kids. The entry fee is pay what you can. Absolutely wonderful.
We love the museum! They work with you on tight budgets for birthday celebrations and are so accommodating. We genuinely appreciate the heart of the museum and that each employee has a heart for the kids in the community. Donation based entrance fees have helped us go when we had no money more than once. Thank you TCM for being so amazing!!
Great place for kids, especially on a rainy day. Tons of room to play plus guided art projects for when they mellow out. Additionally, it's cheap. They recommend a $5 or $10 donation (they take cards) but if you can't swing that, nobody will judge.
Pay is by donation only. Lots of fun activities for children, including: •art projects • vacuum tubes with scarves and balls • building blocks and magnet tables • and if you very cool big it seems to play in, on, and around. Too many things to list them all. Fun for all ages. My 18 month old daughter had a blast and kids up to 10 or 12 years old would have fun too! I definitely recommend the Children's Museum for anyone with a couple hours to kill in downtown Tacoma. Please donate what you can so they can keep it open, clean, and updated.
I bring my son here constantly. He’s one year old and adores playing here.
Absolutely adorable! I go every friday with my son he loves it
Loved visiting! They have some large indoor play areas, water table, building tables and interactive toys. Pay as you will is very nice as well if you don't have much time.
This place is wonderful. It's a donation only location, so for those of us who are on a budget but would like the kids to do something interactive and fun, this is the place to take them. They offer a variety of activities for the children to take part in. Climbing, water activity, art and slides are just some things I noticed. The workers are friendly and the place is well kept. Parking can be a pain though, especially if you drive a larger car. If you are a member parking can be free for certain sections, besides that you have to pay.
The kids had such a blast here. The play space and the activity spaces are all great. It's by donation so can be as affordable as you need it to be.
Kids had fun, it was super busy and a bit stuffy inside, could use a little more air flow.
Kids of all ages can safely play here.
Simply put - AWESOME!! My children love love love coming here!! From infant to teenager, this little space for kids is amazing. It is big enough to provide plenty of variety of experiences but contained enough to feel safe. With multiple children of varying ages, it is very reassuring to me that even when my children scatter throughout, I don’t have to panic that they will disappear. From art to dress up to water play, this is THE PLACE for children!!
It's awesome that admission is by donation. The website needs updated, because the parking garages listed are private and not allowed to be parked in for museum visitors. Also this is more like an indoor playground than a museum in my opinion. Lots of older kids inside on the days I was there, and kind of rough with the little kids around them. Hopefully if we go back it won't be so crowded.
Super fun, cool and exciting ! Kids love it ! My 4 year old sure did!
It's a nice place kinda small though and when there is a lot of people it gets hot in there . One thing that sucks is the parking but anywhere downtown sucks. But overall it's a good place for your kid if you have to keep them away from the elements.
I really enjoy this place for my young children. There are a few different playscapes that allow for creative play as well as a water area for sensory play and an art studio. It is also enter by donation, which is great, but also means this place is always packed. I really wish they had a max occupancy because it's not fun when there are so many people.
My 1.5 yo absolutely loved this place, I have never seen him so excited and engaged in a public place.
A better description would be 'indoor play place'. It's free and there are fun things to do but it isn't my idea of a museum.
My 3 and 4 year olds, love it!
It was great for what it was but its not very big. And quite busy- hard to let a little oneone really explore with so much going on and bigger kids running everywhere.
It's "by donation" to play with no minimum! There are lockers to keep items in & are free with an ID for the front desk to hold onto. The lockers are pretty small though. They have an art room with different projects each month to do. Perfect indoor place for kids to play! They have a small parking lot that you pay to park, but you can always park for free at the Tacoma dome parking garage & hop onto the free link. Just get off at the convention center station. Kids from years 0-10 will probably have the most fun there.
Very kid friendly for young and older chimdren. Toddlers and school age children both enjoy the museum, and it's FREE!!! They accept optional donations. For large groups and birthday parties there's a charge.
Great place to host my son's 1st bday. The play area is amazing and the area for dining is a good size. I recommend it. The price was also great. The staff was very helpful and polite.
I have 4 kids, and they all love the Tacoma children's museum!! It can be free, or you can get a membership for extra benefits. The staff actually cares about kids! Also, my littles have never gotten bored there!
Great place to bring your kids toddlers or babies. They have a lot to do to keep the young ones occupied. I would recommend this pace to everyone.
The museum is a pay as you will meaning they accept donations only. Whatever you can pay which is a wonderful concept and means any kid can play. It isn't as big as other locations I have seen but they do have far more that the kids can play with. My son spent the entire time in the water section while my daughter was all over everything else. They had staff throughout keeping an eye on kids and clearing up the water to keep it as safe as possible. There was an arts area where kids could color, paint, or draw. Plenty for kids to climb on and far cleaner than I expected. A great time.
My Kids love coming here, I believe we came here 3 times this summer. Im burnt out on this place, but the kids keep wanting to go. I don't how to tell them no at this point
My kids loved the Children's Museum of Tacoma, so much to do and see, very clean location and lots of parking.
Entry is pay as you go. There are some basic exhibits and play areas for the kids. It is small though and gets crowded on the weekend. By far the best part were the pneumatic tubes towards the back of the museum. I would suggest going to the one in Bellevue or Seattle if possible. Worth the extra distance and money.
Fun little place for children of all ages. They have different areas and things for the kids to interact with. An arts and crafts room, playgrounds, water toy area, building blocks, etc. My daughter took a while to warm up to it but 2 hours later she didn't want to leave. Good place to bring the kids in Tacoma.
Totally awesome. They have no admission fee, but you can always give (or charge) a donation. Separate areas - for example, a workshop with real tools and fasteners, plenty of material to be creative with. A water area, when the kids can build dams. A spaceship. A big spaceship that could hold 50 kids or more. All sorts of controls. A pneumatic area. Put a rag in a pipe, and it will come flying out...somewhere. You have to drag your kids out of this one. I would volunteer here if I lived closer. Clean rest rooms. Place to stash strollers and backpacks.
Love this place. Granddaughter has so much fun when we visit.
My boys loved it until they grew up on me. Now my five year old daughter loves it! We plan to go tomorrow actually. We love to park for free at feight house square...then taking the tram for free to the museum and making a donation at the museum. Great place for rainy days! And bored parents.
Well, I would love to go in there and play too. But I am not a kid and don't know how much it costs.
Wonderful place for children to play. No fussing or anything, as kids are able to have fun for a couple hours. Just be careful, as this place is narrow, kids can easily get lost in the crowd of adults.
Super cute. Donation based. So much fun for younger kids.
This place is great for kids of all ages. My 2 year old likes it as much as my 11 year old sister.
Free place and amazing they have so much fun
We were lucky enough to get I for free during The Smith sonian Museum Day. My infant had a blast playing in the water section! I loved that they had a hardware section! So many kids were hammering nails, with real tools! The staffs were real happy and friendly. Always available to help if needed.
Wonderful place for people of all ages. I would say that the exhibits are best suited for ages 2-10. The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. There is a fun tree house playground, water table area, painting and drawing area, building area, slides, fun vacuumed wall contraption and more. My niece loved it and we will be returning.
It was super crowded. We took our 18 month old son on a Saturday and there were tons of children running around and we were concerned our little guy might get run over. He had a good time exploring, but most of the stuff seems better suited for kids 3 or over. People can just walk in and I didn't see any security personnel. You definitely want to keep an eye on your little ones while you're there. It's less of a museum and more of a play place, really. We imagined there would be more staff, but you seem to facilitate everything yourself with the kids. If we go back, we would go after he's 3 and try on a weekday.
Definitely a fun place to take your younger kids. Lots of activities to keep them entertained.
The kids really enjoyed all the little work stations they had set up. Great place!!!
It seems like no matter how many times I come here my son always find something new to play with and enjoy himself every time I also like that they have attendants that go around and pick up the random toys and put them back where they're supposed to be so the environments really organized and clean
This place has a pay as you will fee. If you cant afford to pay its ok. You can pay what you have if you have any thing or pay nothing. There is a water area for kids who want to play with water. Theres all kinds of climbing and hiding …
The facility was clean considering how busy it was, the staff was very friendly. I truly appreciate the front desks check in questions about first time visitors. She went over the rules and admissions policy. Once inside the play area, the layout was different then expected but my son seemed to have a good time overall. My improvement comment would be that it would be helpful for a staff member to be at each station to help explain the activity and/or fix the activity when/if things get stuck.
By far THE best so far!
Small but packed with a load of things to keep kids interested and engaged! The kids always have a wonderful time there. The museum is donation based so there is no entry fee, so donate what you can.
I love taking my daughter here! She always has so much fun!
Really awesome place ran off donations!! My kids were a bit old at 10 and 12, but for younger kids it is incredible. Wish I would have had access to this when they were younger.
Awesome place to take the kiddos.
Awesome places to take the kids. My grandkids had a wonderful in water play area. All the fun things to do there. I felt like an adult Peter pan.
Great fun to be had for your little one(s). Pay attention to where you park during the week. The parking lot is shared by several organizations in the building and they don't like to share.
A fun way to spend a few hours with your kids.
It was fun. I recommend it.
Its was very fun my 14 month old had the time of her life.
This was a really neat place. My kids are 7 and under and there was something for all of them. They had painting and water play, building and climbing, and more!I love that it's accessible to all by only requiring a donation of any amount
It was fun. The place is quit small but they have plenty of activities and the kids can be engaged in lots of activities for 4-6 hours without getting board. There are coloring and painting activities, stem activities, climbing and engineering activities. We loved and welling to visit it again when we are around.
My son's favorite place on the planet! He has had 2 birthday parties here and always wants to have playdates here. A++++++ I can't say enough good about here.
Fantastic! Great place for 8 and 5 year old, pay as you wish, parking in the area was metered for about a dollar an hour, they have an area where you can bring your own snacks and a vending machine. Exhibits change frequently, fun photo opp space, friendly staff.
My kids loved the 3 hours they spent at the Tacoma Children's Museum! It is great that there is no set rate to come play and learn here. It makes it very family friendly. But please if you can donate even a few dollars please do, it can help keep they museum open and updated and clean and safe. The museum is a good size not so small that the little guys and girls will get bored quickly, but not so big that you could lose track of them. And there are many different exhibits so everyone can find something that interests them.
It's a nice little place to stop and see. I don't know if it is good enough to purposefully visit more than once. We went a couple times becayse we were bored and it is inexpensive (pay what you can pay structure, donations). It isn't very big, but they did put some good activities for the kids.
Better if your kid is a bit older.
Great free fun. Make a donation to help this wonderful place continue.
Very busy for a rainlly Saturday. Good place to book for a little ones party.
Art, water tables and areas that engage imagination galore. Both of my kids 8 and 2 would spend all day playing here.
Small but very fun. Prepare to pay for on street parking. There is outdoor and indoor play.
Our 23 month old loved the water space where you can paint rocks, and the blue light cave where you can write on the walls with light! So cool and so much to discover.
I love this place and so do my kids. It's always a good time when we go. This is probably the biggest indoor play area I've ever seen. I really like that it's a suggested donation to enter. They won't turn you away if you can't afford to pay. My kids really love the water play area. It reminds me of a gentle stream. They've always got a ton of toys to explore how water works and they provide waterproof aprons for the kids to wear so they don't get soaked. We also really like the tubes in the back that have a strong air current. They have scarves out that the kids put in and it's so cool to see them get sucked through the tubes super fast. The only downside is the parking lot. Only members can park there. We've started parking at the freight house square's free park and ride lot and riding the free tram to the museum. My son especially likes the tram. Other than that, you're stuck with trying to find a spot in the street and paying to park. Overall, this is a really awesome place and I highly recommend taking your children to play here.
Donations only which is amazing. My kid is obsessed with the water play area!! Good for toddlers.
Make sure to bring some plastic cardboard or wood to donate for crafts! Such a great place for kids to experience!
Great little museum in Tacoma. Lots of hands-on exhibits! Our 2-year-old really liked the arts area, water-play area, and the ship!
Great place for kids to let their imagination run wild and you can't beat the price.
We absolutely love it here! There are so many toys and activities that it keeps my kids happily occupied for hours :) Our membership has been worth every penny!
This is a “pay as you will” Children’s museum. My son’s favorites were the ship, water area and workshop. The ship was a great play space with lots of room for imaginative play. The water area is a great place for kiddos to enjoy pouring, splashing and so much more. The workshop had actual real tools that kept my son’s attention very well. We had a fun time. Biggest thing is parking is really, really complicated. Mostly street parking as the lot next to the museum is actually owned/spoken for...
Great place for kids.
Awesome space. Pay what you can. Kept up really well. Clean and functioning well. Free lockers. Family restroom. Cafe area. Parking is a little tricky on weekdays. We paid $1/hr down the street. My 2 year old went bonkers for the water tables.
Absolutely love this place! My daughter is two and this is one of her favorite places to go. She loved the water area and the painting and crafts area. She also loves to play on the many play structures. There is always something fun to do and they do a great job of keeping things orderly and clean. It's pay as you will (donation). Parking can be scarce and its metered, but we usually find a spot on the street. Highly recommend this place.
My wife, 1 1/2 year old daughter, and I were visiting my wife's friend in Tacoma and she suggested this place for us to visit. This is less a typical museum and more of a really cool place for kids to learn and play with each other. Imagination and creativity go hand-in-hand here and we ended up spending two hours that went by extremely quickly! Highly recommended if you have kids!
There is a pretty interesting amount of things to do at this museum. It gets a little chaotic and loud when it's full but it's right down the street from 2 Starbucks and door dash delivers so worst case scenario you have that. Vacuum tubes, painting, building structures and pirate ship along with an indoor slide makes for a pretty fun day especially for the price where it's free will donation.
This is the greatest place for children (and parents and grandparents).
It’s always full of people but the staff are really helpful and friendly. Parking is really limited. It’s a fun place for kids to play. It’s not really a museum so much as an indoor play ground
I come here with my daughter all the time, it's a great place to play and she loves all the activities in the craft room. Friendly helpful staff are always nearby for questions or concerns!
This place is completely amazing. Admission is only a donation if you want. They have vending machines in the lobby. The area where the kids play is absolutely fantastic. I take my kids here all the time. They have the option to climb, play with water, color, paint.. Its all in all a wonderful experience.
The place is free so that's a plus but unlike the one in Olympia it's easy for anyone to come in regardless if they are with a hold of not. Also I had an issue with how crowded it was their was nowhere for my little guy to play without almost being ran over. I would say don't take a child under two to this one and be mindful of the security issue it is an incident just waiting to happen
There are so many fun things to do there. Lots to climb. There's an art room, a water area, and a room for tools so your little one can hammer, screw, and cut different materials. And the best party is that there's no set admission fee, they simply ask for a donation. It's awesome. Definitely going back.
Great fun for the kids!
Kids loved it!! A lot of hands on activities for them to do. Crafts, building, painting the bull, exploring. I like how it's donation based so everyone can go there.
We went this Saturday for the first time. My son is almost 4. There were lots of kids younger and older than him, all having a Great time. All seemed to play, and share well together. The water playing area was a hit for my son and pretty much all the others too. But... even with the provided smocks, they all were SOAKED from head to toe. The kids don't seem to care, but it was a cold day, and we kicked ourselves for not bringing a change of clothes for him. Don't make our mistake!!! We will definitely be going back.
This place is fun!! Great activity center for most ages up to young adult. My grandson had a blast, as we were there for a bday party, and it was clean and well supervised as well.
Always busy but always fun!
This is one of the best places in Tacoma to bring the kids, and it's certainly an affordable choice as well. You simply pay what you'd like to use the place, and there are numerous educational stations throughout the facility that are so fun the kids won't realize that they're learning. Great workshop for the kids too. It's safe, it's cheap, the staff is friendly, and the place is well kept and clean; no negatives here at all.
the children just love this place, they keep asking to go back. as a parent, I find it important to mix a little fun time with educations things too
Costs whatever you donate, has lots of great stuff to play with. Bring your own snacks, because you'll be hungry and they just have the one vending machine full of candy.
Nice place especially since they have pay as you will. Only one floor you can use and the outdoor area you see from the road is only for the preschool they have there. Smallest children’s museum we have been to. Keep kids busy for 2 hours. They have art area, water area, play/ build area
Awesome place for kids. Bring a spare pair of clothes because the water area is awesome! Really good for young kids. the staff is awesome. two different ladies stopped and played with our son.
Absolutely love this place, it’s free but they do ask if you can make a donation. So many cool thing to do. A playground, costumes, water play, art and my personal favorite a room with recycled bottle and stuff so you and the kids can make stuff. Also there is a table/wooden board you can just hammer nails into all day long, my son loves it. I believe they have lockers as well but I have never used them. The only thing that sucks is street parking which is only for 2hours then you have to pay again and move your car again since the people who enforce this chalk your tires. You either have to move your car or wipe chalk off your tire, or get a $25 parking ticket. You can pay for parking in a parking garage. I still give the children’s museum 5 star since it’s not their fault. Anyway with how great this place is parking can be overlooked. If you have never been you have to go!
My girls love it here. My oldest has been coming here since she was 18 months old and at 9 she still loves it here.
So many cool things for kids to do here, great to spend an hour or two and wear them out so you can finally catch up on The Walking Dead while they nap at home afterwards. Do not let your kid watch TWD, even for 10 seconds. The fear of zombies will take over your household. It will determine which sucks your kid doesn't want to wear. And if you're not up on your laundry game, you're in for an epic meltdown at 8am on a Tuesday. Just don't.
Okay.....looked at some of the bad reviews before hand someone was complaining about price....this place if free they only ask for donations. Others gave bad reviews for thinks out of the places control kinda ridiculous. If your still here. This place is great its called a kid museum with interactive areas and play places that help teach kids about water and currents, magnets, vacuums, tools, painting, and building forts. It is a good place to go to have fun with the little ones. It is a little chaotic as you are expected to watch your own offspring and interact with them and guide them. Mostly parents just lets their kids run out of control with no guidance. Which makes it harder on people who do stay focused on their kids and are trying to teach them. Lastly there is staff who are there to maintain areas and are more than happy to help show you things if you need it.
Cheap, no cost AT ALL. if your looking for free entertainment for the kids. BUT, compared to the others it is small and can become crowed quick. Recommended for kids who love water and indoor games.
One of the best children's museums I've seen. Up to date facility with friendly staff. My kids (3 and 1) loved it.
Fun place for toddlers to spend time at.
Good place to little kids, is very small but the kids love this kind of museums.
Awesome little place for the kiddos to learn a thing or two, burn some energy, and do some arts and crafts. People that work there are nice and friendly. Definitely one of my favorite spots to visit when the kids want to play.
Fun for sure she loved it! Getting her into her car seat was a nightmare! Please donate to keep up the place nice for all!
Pay for parking. Only to be told they are at capacity. Could have had a sign outside!!!
Great for parents & kids to be created with each other & have lots of fun. So much unique things to do! Recommend all parents to bring their little ones here. Kudos to whoever built this place
Its pretty small. Not a lot of activities to do. Just felt really cramped inside.
Kids of all ages can safely play here. My prenatal group met when our babies were 3, 6 and 9 months. Each time there was something developmentally appropriate and interesting for the babies to enjoy.
It is okay. There is not too much there, and because of this I'm glad it's free.
Grandkids love this place and so do I
Fun place for kids to play and explore , it's free and offered lockers for free as well.
Great treat for the kids. Based solely on donations. Give what you can. Or dont. Its free. Great place for rainy days.
Great place for kids yo expand their minds
Very fun place to take and entertain your children great atmosphere and enjoyable activities.
So much to do! Awesome indoor play area. Our kids are 4 and 2 and had a blast. Donation based is another perk. Children’s museums are expensive in most cities.
Great place for kids 8 and younger
Fun little place for kids. Not as big as you would think but, kids dont really care anyway
Truly a great place to take young children
I've gone different times of the day and it's always super busy. Little guy still has a bunch of fun. He just has to look out for the older kids running around.
