The Submarine, Lake Champlain Explorer, resides there. It was the First Submarine to cruise beneath the waves of Lake Champlain. The Museum calls it: The Yellow Sub.

It was so much bigger than we had been told. Loved every little building and especially loved the marine biologists that were there to answer questions, that was my favorite part by far. Definitely would recommend going.

This place was very interesting. We had the place all to ourselves that day, which was nice. The exhibits and artifacts were fascinating. I especially enjoyed one that featured a room full of various boats, from Native canoes to one made by a local muskrat hunter. A highlight was visiting a replica of the War of 1812 vessel the Philadelphia, which is docked in a little harbor off Lake Champlain.

Some great exhibits, a wonderful history of boats on the lake, knowledgeable staff. Not their fault, but no cellular service, print directions. Also no wifi to speak of, so know where you want to eat or go next.

This institution far outstripped my expectations. Wonderful displays covering the history of Lake Champlain and maritime technologies going back to its first inhabitants. Friendly staff and volunteers. Plan to make a day of it. The entry fee will grant you a 20% discount to the Red Mill Restaurant, an easy walk from there, so no need to pack a lunch.

This is a perfect outing on a beautiful fall day. We were particularly enamored with the canoe exhibit. It's been lifelong live of ours. The iceboat was amazing. The facilities for childhood education are impressive. I had to pry my husband away from the great docent down at the landing. And so handicapped / disability friendly!!! Ramps everywhere, thanks so much.

This is a wonderful little museum with s big story to tell. What went on in the Champlain Valley that was so decisive to the successful end of the revolutionary war ? One of the best museums for and of the battles on the lake that delayed the British enough to turn the tides for the colonies. The unsuccessful invasion of Canada and another view of Benedict Arnold are presented as well. Also: Boating history of the lake from early native canoes, thru colonial time to more modern transportation. And: Resources and more in an extensive bookstore.

Milton Thayer

It was fun

Great place for a day with kids. Lot of historical material and beautiful lake side. USS Philadelphia is a history lesson by it's own.

Surprisingly large museum that’s packed with interesting things to see. On arrival ask to see the large screen video about the history of the military conflict. It’s worth the short walk down to the lakeside.
