Ask for the tour!!! Our tour guide was so engaging and enthusiastic about the interesting history of silver reef!
Nice little hidden gem that some local friends took us to. Great historic building and they also offer tours inside to learn more info about the history of the building and the area.
Very nice place to visit with young kids and admire the views. Well documented and interesting information.
Not much to see but the place is full of interesting history.
Grat place to visit and learn some history
Interesting information about Silver Reef. Take the tour, the employees are informative. We enjoyed ourselves; with a 6 yr old and 8 yr old.
Excellent local history. We had a volunteer spend quite a bit of time filling us in on details we may have missed otherwise.
Small but interesting museum only a tiny part of the town is still visible but an interesting part of Utah history
Lovely museum and art galleries, very charming little town.
We really enjoyed this place! All the people there were extremely nice and there's so many neat things to see and history to be learned..
The tour was great. Mike had a lot of knowledge about the town.
Great talks once a month, shout-out reinactments and a really excellent museum. Go and walk around the ruins.
This is a really cool little place.
Very cool piece of Utah history. Only place in the United States where silver was found in sandstone
Awesome
Beautiful selection of jewelry $$ Ak about John Anderson's work
very interesting western history museum
My time at the Silver Reef Museum was great. Mike was very knowledgeable about the mine history and the area. We have driven past the signs for years but have never made the time to stop. I am glad I finally made the time. This Museum is a hidden gem. If you are in the saint George area, this is a must stop.
A small historical place
So well done and fun to visit! Right off the highway, the signs don't do it justice!
I have lived here most of my life, and this is the first time that I have been out here. Such a great display of the history of this town. I came when all operations were closed, and I was still able to learn a lot of the town's past. I will have to stop again during business hours.
Exploring Silver Reef is a great outing for people of all ages. It gives a real glimpse into a ghost town, with the oldest original Wells Fargo building standing, and other remains of walls, foundations, mining buildings, visible mine shafts, and nearby graveyard. The staff at the museum are always friendly, sometimes with personal local stories or dressed in Western outfits. They are kind to give children interesting local rocks at the end of visiting the museum. The museum is small, but has authentic items from the town. A rock-liked path leads visitors to the remains of a house, mine buildings, schoolyard fence, and view of the remains of the town. Easy 25 minute drive from St George!
This was a really great place to take the whole family. I learned a lot of history that shows how tough life was and who was here back in the pre 1900s. Definitely a must see.
We did the walking tour. To bad it was closed that day
Great place would recommend it to anyone good history great place clean organized nice people sweet little town put it on one of your places to stop and hang out good times
Great place
A lot of history there cool place to see
Wandered around after hours but it was still pretty neat. You can tell these miners were busy around these hills. It's neat to see the old foundations and walls as well as artifacts. The museum has put up little signs to describe what everything is and help you see stuff you might otherwise look over.
Historic Ghost town, with new developements built on top of it. Best preserved Wells Fargo stage stop.
I'd never heard of this place but we happened upon it on our way back from Brianhead. Museum is closed sundays so we didn't get to see artifacts but the ruins and the walk were quite great. Looking forward to checking out the museum sometime in the future.
We had great time here. Lots of history. Great small museum. Everyone really enjoyed the mock mine in the basement.
It's a neat place and full of history!
Must see
Nice museum. Staff kind of rushed is through.
Living history! Mock gunfight today (the good guys won). Catch the action on every 4th saturday.
The building and displays are kept in excellent condition. The specimens are great examples of old ghost town artifacts, some of which are remarkable and in great shape. The gift shop had some really nice merchandise, and not just your usual touristy trap stuff. The mine shaft recreation in the basement was fun and creative. A lot of love has gone into the Silver Reef museum.
$3 per person got us a nice guided tour of the museum.
Getting in touch with the past, loving the view! Using my imagination to go back in time, enjoying the hard work our four father's whom came before us!
A great place to check out if you like old west town history. The people in the museum are a delight and are more than happy to educate you till you on the history of the town until you can't take anymore lol. Highly recommend.
Very nice period displays and fun gunslinger reenactments. Beautiful sure with gorgeous views. Don't forget to tip. They operate on a shoestring apparently. Been coming here for years and it just gets better.
Interesting history if mining silver out of a SANDSTONE rock formation. Museum plus several old mine sites to drive to w/high clearance vehicle.
I grew up in the area and watched this place go from a few crumbling buildings and foundations to a few nicely preserved buildings, mapped out town with marked foundations, and a very nice museum. My kids had a great time and we will definitely be back.
Just love this area and it's history. Mike was awesome guy and very knowledgeable. All staff were so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend everyone visit.
The tour was awesome! The tour guide was super enthusiastic and passionate and he made every story interesting and funny. He really knew his stuff! There was even a gentleman in period costume who told us great stories from history that I didn't know (andin a great Irish accent). Totally worth the $3!
Cool stuff to see. Helps that there are signs and markers on buildings. We went on a Sunday, so the museum was closed. But easy enough to walk around and see stuff. Only thing that would have made it better would be having a guide.
Awesome place great for family fun!!
A hidden gem!!! What a beautiful area. Love this place.
Fun place to visit!
Very quick and fun vist right off of interstate 15 really cool old cemetery
Great people there who give a wonderful guiding tour The mining tour is great. it's too bad the local residents who came there LATER do not welcome this history
Great place to learn about the area
Quaint little museum. Fun staff. Worth checking out.
Pretty neat area
We've only been there once. Interesting little town. The guy managing the museum was very helpful. Some very good hiking trails in the area.
Pretty cool history and beautiful views.
Very interesting place if you like history. Mike gave us a great tour! There's a museum, plus some ruins of old buildings, and a replica of a mine to walk through!
Didn't see any ghosts, but did see an old town.
It is a very interesting place I love the old stories and trails I love the pieces all around Very simple and welcoming
Lots of new development around the "ghost" town. The museum is fine to see.
Definitely five stars all the way. The oldest Wells Fargo & Company free standing building in the world.
This is a must see little hole in the wall place if you like tales of history.
Interesting place to stop.
Great guided tours of the museum, underground mine, and fun storytelling. Great job!
A very worthwhile place to visit. Good variety of authentic and historic relics in the Museum (Which is air conditioned thank goodness). Good amount of surrounding foundation etc. No visible vandalism. BEST part were the kind and accommodating museum hosts / guides. We had 3 generations of my family there and were made to feel welcome.
If you like history, stop in. Bobbi is friendly and knowledgeable. Scenic views all around. Check ahead for the special events held frequently.
Very interesting, tour was great, views in.the area it was beautiful.
Interesting place to review the history of silver and Utah
Interesting gunplay and dust
Great place to visit for you History buffs
Awesome historical place to visit. Neat local history with great artifacts and pictures.
Great place nice and preserved
Good for an hour or so visit. Interesting and people there knowledable and friendly.
A great
Years ago it was a 5 star, but they have built new homes in the ghost town ruining the historic landmark. What is left of the ghost town is worth a visit. It's not as good as it once was.
Museum was closed when we visited but the site was assume!
It’s not a ghost town. It’s a pile of rubble.
Cool little ghost town. I don't think it is actually haunted but it is very interesting. Little information signs explaining things. Fun thing to do to kill time
This place is a must go if you like old West history, mining ghost towns, or Wells Fargo history. They do a bank robbery reenactment that is just fun as it is corny...with none of the actors taking themselves too seriously. The self guided tour features an interesting view into what small mining towns of the 19th century were like. The location is a bit strange because a modern residential development is immediately adjacent, but it's a fun place to go if you're on vacation in the area and have 1-2 hours to spare.
Neat place to stop for stretching and walking about. Glad I got to thank a gentleman who lives nearby for his work with the trails, on a Sunday!
After living in the area for three years we finally decided to see what Silver Reef was all about. What an interesting little spot. I never knew about this being one of the only places where silver was discovered in sandstone. We were fortunate to have Mike as our guide. What an interesting guy he was. He knew so much about the mine and town history. His side stories about his old bottle collection were fun to hear. The surrounding views were spectacular. Great side trip while you are in the Zion area.
Fantastic visit to a place with extraordinary history. The museum and gift shop are well worth it. The staff is super knowledgeable and have some great stories to tell. You can explore the area and really get a feel for how things were when the town was in its prime. I really enjoyed the time I spent there and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the fascinating history of the area.
Great historic location. It was a stagecoach stop for the pony express!
Cool little ghost town that isn't far from St. George. Only downside is the fact that there are modern houses on the same street as the ghost town buildings. Kinda ruins the atmosphere.
Had a guided tour in the museum by a cowboy with spurs and all the trappings of a cowboy. Super informative. Went on a mine simulation that was really cool. The town has a real live shoot out on the 4th Friday of the month. Everyone dies except the sheriff who is supposed to look and sound like Sam Elliott. Really neat place!
Fun facts and history of the area. They need a candy store to complete the place
We enjoyed the overall walk and museum. The tour guide was fun and helpful. We arrived just before closing and the museum part felt rushed. I wished we could of spent more time in the museum.
Lots of cool local history. Pretty neat.
This place was so fun. Our guide was wonderful,so full of stories that really brought the place to life. Very educational and entertaining. Don't miss out on this little treasure.
Cool history spot and cool staff
Awesome museum. The tour was very interesting and the guide was full of facts and tid-bits to make it extra interesting.
Really cool historic site. Lots of interesting places to hike nearby.
Silver Reef Museum is hosting the Smithsonian ' traveling "The Way We Worked" exhibit through mid-November of 2017. Upgrades and improvements bring the ghost town's mining legacy alive. Entrance is free but a $3.00 per person donation is appreciated. It's definitely worth the time to visit this quiet jewel.
Great Historical Site.
Awesome experience! We went to the live action weekend, had a guided tour at the museum by a gentleman named Kelton I believe. He was funny, and super knowledgeable with everything in the museum. We watched a reenactment shootout, and had quite the time supporting local historical sites with our time and small donation. Great for any history buff and mining enthusiasts.
Nice little walk around parts of an old town. Interesting stories of occupants.
Friendly knowledgeable staff . Wonderful historical displays of the old west mining town.
Hidden treasures here. Fun and interesting to explore.
Amazing museum! Loved every second, so did the kids. Everyone was so friendly and seemed to enjoy having the kids there. :)
A really interesting place. A lot of good information about a place that almost nobody talks about, but the museum really shows you the history and the impact of the city on the state as a whole. Definately would recomend going to this place. It is not a huge exhibit but irs packed with information.
Awesome little gem just outside St. George. Great little informative tour with a very knowledgeable guide. Glad we happened to stumble on it.
Silver Reef is located off the Leeds exit from hwy. I-15. It was a mining town in the 1800s but is now considered a ghost town. The Wells Fargo Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings and is now a museum with exhibits from pioneer life at that time, mining and the history of that area. There are walking trails that lead to ruins of old buildings such as the Rice Bank, the silver mines, and the jail. Set in a beautiful area of southern Utah, the visit to Silver Reef will not only take you back in time but transport you through thousands of years of geologic history. The museum is closed Tues, Wed, and Sun. but open the rest of the week from 10:00-5:00. There is also the Protestant and Catholic Cemeteries to visit before you get to the museum.
This is a very cool place to discover the old silver town mine that was here in the late 1800’s. The museum costs $3 per person and you really doesn’t know until the lady come around and asks if you paid as the signage is not good. All of the signs and old things they have here are so interesting and they did a extremely great job showing what happened in this neat little mine town. The museum is in the old Wells Fargo building that they have preserved.
Recent improvements are astounding. Thank you. We will bring our friends.
We had the best guide ever! I don't remember his name but he told is he was the youngest volunteer there. This place is so much fun!! We enjoyed our your and loved the stop!! It is amazing that they have some of the old relics and you can see some of the old buildings or where they once where.
Ruins only, museum building was closed; but ruins are self guided. Rock wall building ruins, lumber plank jail, paths throughout the area, vintage steam and gas powered mining equipment. Worth an hour or two to photograph and reflect.
Very knowledgeable staff. Had a great time learning and seeing so much about their area. Asking probing questions leads to a better tour
Old times
Interesting place. Lots of artifacts.
Very cool side attraction loved Wells Fargo museum
Wonderful way to spend an afternoon. The curator is funny and well-informed. Always fun to catch up on local history
Interesting museum, but it wouldn't have had as much meaning of Eric, the docent, hadn't talked to us for 3 hours about the history, artifacts and interesting stories.
Can only give 4 stars because the museum was closed(closed on Sunday) but the buildings, info stations, and the real relics of the silver mining was very interesting.
Hidden little gem! Historical museum, with knowledgeable staff. Our family enjoyed our visit!
History telling and Unique
Neat old museum
We really enjoyed the visit. Musem was closed
Very informative
Great local museum, knowledgeablw docent
Really neat. Honestly not spectacular but its our history. Worth the 20 minutes to explore
Good stop to break up the drive, but not a lot to see
Very intriguing history, fun to explore and look at the artificats. If you have the money to spend, by all means do because the place needs the financing. If you dont, beware the high pressure.
Cool history lesson.
Great place to visit for a little local mining history
Really cute and amazing. The tour guide for the museum was very knowledgeable and gave great detail. He made everything very interesting and intriguing to listen to, and took you into the past to invision things in a different perspective. Very friendly people and very gorgeous town.
The tour was good and very informative.Gary made it interesting for all ages.
Not much to see unless you're a huge history enthusiast but if you are it's really nifty
It's a fun bit of history.
Neat place to see if you have time on your travels and need a stop, but not worth a special planned visit. Mine is just a reproduction in the basement of the bank. It is basically a a dark decorated hallway. Not worth $3.00 per person for the mine tour and the museum.
It was great here and very well presented. The fictitious shootout was a hoot, the kids loved it.
Excellent locally run museum with great guides. Even had a mine recreation in the basement.
Cool history
Meh!
Interesting little museum. Not big...not fancy but a great spot to learn about local history.
Awesome place to visit. Went in a replica of what a mine would look like. It was interesting to learn the history.
Cool museum. Worth the time to check it out.
If you like history and the west, this is the place to be.
Fair place to visit. Interesting history given during their Ghost Town event. Sumpin special
Was in St. George visiting in-laws. Decided to explore some more of the county. Saw there was a ghost town close by and decided to stop in. Not much here, but what is here is well maintained. The museum is staff with friendly and knowledgeable people. We enjoyed the presentation and history lesson about the area and town. Lots of good artifacts to look at. Nice gift shop to purchase jewelry and trinkets. Believe they do school tours as well. Easily spend at least an hour here.
Good little stop if you’re in the area. Not a destination. Can spend no more than a half an hour. Didn’t go to museum as was closed. Did get solicited by the ghost of a strumpet but passed on the offer.
A modern neighborhood build on an old mining town that managed to save some of the old buildings and history in a small town fashion.
Really interesting mining history here.
Ghost town very near the interstate. Walking tour. Nice place to stop and let kids run when on a long drive. History everywhere.
Cool place to look around. The museum is small, but the curators are very knowledgeable. Who would have known this little ghost town was once the biggest mining town in the west?
Fantastic historical site and wonderful reenactments.
There was a LOT more out there to learn and see than I thought there would be. The museum staff were very friendly, courteous, and learned. They were eager to answer our questions, forthright when they weren't sure of an answer (which only happened twice), and seemed happy in general that we were there and taking an interest. Prices are more than reasonable, to the point that I wonder how they're still running. You can also wander outside on your own to see the ruins of the miners who lived and labored there. It was easily one of the funnest weekend activities that I've done thus far in southern Utah.
First time there great place to visit.
The tour was to long. We had to cut off the gentleman who gave us the tour.
I really enjoy historical findings, and walking around you can find lots of wonderful treasures.
Awesome place to learn some history and see how people lived then
Neat place to go that has some cool history.
The museum was closed when I went there, but outside was really cool.
Very well done and historic
Was closed today.
Great place to go back in time.
I liked it and it was really cool but it was just kinda expensive, it's was 3 dollars which was a lot much for that small of a museum but it has some really cool stuff in it I just wish it wasn't as expensive
Great place to visit!
Fantastic! I took a tour from Eric, it was awesome
I've wanted to visit this museum for years. Glad I did. Great job sharing amazing story of Silver Creek and Washington county
