REVIEWS OF Natural History Museum of Utah IN Utah

Robert Morriss

Had tons of fun checking this place out! Good food allergy options in the Cafe as well!

James Mack

Amazing. More dinosaur bones displayed than any museum I have been to. The native American area was beautiful and informative but needs something more. I felt like i was reading the last chapter of a book before knowing the beginning. That being said, i would go back anytime! Dont skip the geology area as they have an impressive number of samples including precious and semi precious before and after displays.

swell411

Perfect place for little kids to big kids they call adults. The hands sections of the museum was fun. I enjoyed the mineral collection the most then the dinosaur exhibit.

MichellieB U

Very interactive, fascinating. Enjoyable for kids and adults.

Michael Hunter

Great opportunity for the kiddos, but might be a bit of a bore for adults. Some of their exhibits felt really gimmicky. Nonetheless not a trucker way to spend a few hours of your day.

MACTackleBox

Really enjoyed this museum! Wonderful exhibits and beautifully designed. The view from the roof was spectacular! And, the same for the Cafe. Not to be missed!

Cheyenne Biorge

Beautiful building filled to the brim with amazing fossils and artifacts! Great way to spend the afternoon. Lots of interactive displays for the kids too!

Emily Beans

Wonderful exhibits. The staff were kind and helpful. I particularly appreciated the respect given to the Native American heritage and protected by allowing them to speak for themselves. The images and quotes are profound.

Judi Hill

Randy and I had the best date in years. I have been on steroids for 5 weeks and my health makes me feel 15 years younger. I was so darn sick. I am grateful for feeling better.

David Nichols

Really nice museum... Great place to take kids

Jon Ryan Jensen

For our family of six, this is definitely a multi-visit museum. The currently Mayan exhibit was enough to keep our kids busy for hours. They all liked the AR modules, too. But seeing dinosaur skeletons is the best. When my kindergartners realized the bones they were looking at were just the head and that this head was bigger than the two of them combined, their understanding of size and scale completely changed. Can't wait to go back again.

Steve Neely

Great Dinosaur exhibit never saw so many complete Dinosaur fossils worth a good couple of hours

Tiu Sii

$5 dollar weds is a deal, I almost feel like I'm stealing haha great place anytime, alone or in a group

Reddy Karthikeyan

Wonderful and informative place to spend one whole day with kids. My 6 old loved the "Past World" section which was mostly about dinosaurs. The other sections too are good.

Bonnie Schamber

So much to do and see! Amazing dinosaur creatures, fossils and native american history. People are wonderful here too!

Jon Wilson

It is a really good natural museum and only mentions pioneers in passing and in how they changed the lives of the indigenous native people's. This improves it's rating greatly as there are plenty of other pioneer museums in the SLC area.

Winter Whisper

I was very surprised to find this treasure. I had never seen a dinosaur skeleton before and we happened upon this place when they had a full display. The place is huge, much bigger than it looks from outside. It was clean and there's a little gift shop and place to get a snack. We will definitely return on our next time through there.

Chris Mayers

Simply amazing, well thought out exhibits that will teach something no matter your education level.

Maggie Brown

The best collection of fossil bones I ever saw. Loved it! The building itself is beautiful too.

Holly C

Great place to go to learn the history of Utah, including the formation of lakes and mountains to today's plants and animals. Interesting enough to be enjoyed by kid and adults alike. If you are bringing a stroller or wheelchair (or something similar) then be prepared for the occasional "traffic jam" throughout the museum as there isn't a lot of room in places for people who aren't standing to pass each other. This also goes for large groups. Overall a good place to be educated and to have fun.

Alvin Merz

I thought their dinosaurs were great. I felt the other floors were good but not amazing. I wish there were two more floors of dinosaur exhibits.

Alejo Alonso

This museum is by far the best of Utah. If you have time and want to learn about science and history, this wonderful place will teach you like no other. Sometimes it might be a little bit crowded but if you visit it during the right time, this can be a wonderful experience. Dinosaurs skeletons are my favorite.

Adam Petersen

This place was awesome. Probably the best museum in Utah with tons of things for young ones to do. We went on Wednesday for the 5 buck tickets and they are open late. Awesome.

Michelle VanGurp

Excellent museum. The displays are amazing and kid friendly. So much to see! Just wonderful!

Austin Landoe

We decided to visit this museum somewhat last minute, not really knowing what to expect or doing much research other than looking at other google reviews. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the building and the number of exhibits they had! We spent most of the afternoon here. The exhibits cater to all ages and there is something for everyone. Very interesting information and a lot of stuff to look at. We came on a Saturday and it was very busy but there was plenty of room for everyone and we were still able to see everything without it being a hassle. Overall a great museum and a great experience!

Amanda Sanders

The field trip to the museum was so much fun. I learned so much from the tour guide and the exhibits are interesting for all ages. The architectural work is AMAZING. I would definitely go back and spend more time there.

Joe

I didn't think the museum could be any better than the botanical garden, but I was totally wrong. One of the best collections of dinosaur fossils and full size completed skeletons. I was blown away by the history at all levels and loved how they had the museum split up into sections.

Sarah Briggs

This is one of the best natural history museums I've ever visited!! The displays are amazing and as are the bones of a newly discovered dinosaur. We loved the mineral and gem area, fossils and many other areas. This is a great place to take your kids and old kids like my hubby and I!! It's a must see in Salt Lake City.

Stefanie Lauritzen

Love this museum! The ceratopsian display and dinosaurs are my favorite, but the whole place is fun.

Neola Grange

It was great! Very I interesting things. You could spend a lot if time here with all the different exhibits.

Wade Johnson

Sweet place for the fam to go check out the history of Utah I enjoyed it and so did my wife and kid definitely gonna go back tons to see and tons to learn

KC Fralick

This is one of my favorite Utah museums. The exhibits are always carefully thought out so that folks of all ages and knowledge levels can come and learn something new. Their dinosaur collection is awesome. One cool thing I noticed this time around was that some of the exhibits have a little "smell me" button that you can push and scented air comes out, which adds another level of immersion to the experience. I would recommend this place to families with children, college students, people looking for an interesting date night, and tourists hoping to learn a bit more about our state and the world.

Stephen Wasmund

Who doesn't love a museum... and this is a nice one. Definitely worth a visit. Not just dinosaurs. Very diverse exhibits each time I've been there. Also a beautiful backdrop. Visit Red Butte Gardens while you're in the area.

Robert Moore

This is one of my favorite places. I have a year membership so that I can go and peruse over the vast selection of fossils, anthropological artifacts, geological information, and the incredible special exhibits as often as I would like. I've seen the reptile exhibit, the Vikings, and now the Maya. It's detailed and interactive, not to mention kid friendly. The gift shop is fun and the restaurant has really good food. The view also let's you look out over the valley to what Lake Bonneville once covered. Wonderful, to say the least.

Jerika Bocalbos

Only had about 30 mins on the 3rd floor because they were shutting it down way early for the day, which to me was unfortunate because it was the best floor! So much information about the native indians and seeing all the artifacts. Overall, this place is amazing. I always say educational play are the best type of play because children retain so much information! My son still raves about the things he learned here. 100% will recommend to everyone to stop by at!

Minkyung Oh

Well organized museum which is good for both audult and child! Liked how the museum displays everything.

brayden johnson

Much bigger than expected. Very interesting walking though. Relatively cheap

Randi Dooms

I love bringing my niece here! We always have a great time talking about the dinosaurs.

Dan Mendelsohn

Amazing museum. The place is so well thought out. Their use of simple metaphors to help people grasp the concept as well as their use of technology is fantastic. The AR exhibit in particular is very cool. They really did a fantastic job with this museum and as my archaeologist sister says "this may be the best thought out natural history museum I have ever been to"

Sandra Larson

This is a wonderful museum and an extraordinary place for a wedding, work event or family reunion! I have typed the museum for the educational aspects as well as attending several parties. Always a place to consider for entertainment.

Gary H

Not only does this place have multiple floors of great displays there are some amazing trails outside to walk/hike/run. Great attraction for kids and adults.

Mishkuulio Jacksonbae

It was great! Lots to see and great displays! The Mayan civilizations display was especially cool, I enjoyed seeing all the things about the ancient civilizations. The dinosaurs were cool too. The observatory at the top of the museum was amazing as well. All in all I had a good time.

Craig Schramm

With a focus on Utah natural history, this is a beautifully designed museum. Well worth the visit.

Leah Alvarado

Great for kids. Skipp if you do not have any.

It's da Momma

So much fun for a family with young kids and older aunts/uncles/grandmas. We found an after-hours special around Christmas (I don't know how long these specials run, check out their website like we did) and were stunned at how incredible the displays are. Truly nothing else like them. My daughter, the dinosaur expert, loved the range of prehistoric animals, and the grown ups really liked the Maya exhibit they had at that time. The pics I took don't do justice to how immaculate the exhibits, but you can see we had so much fun. One brief warning for families with strollers or disabilities- there are tons of ramps, I remember elevators near the beginning of the museum but there are small (3-4 stairs) runs of stairs here and there. I can't wait to visit again! Thank you to the staff who stayed after hours during holiday season so families (that are normally thousands of miles apart) could come have fun!

Samuel smith

The tours they do are awesome! Thanks Johnson!

Michelle Zaharias

My kids loved it! 5 stories of amazing exhibits! We will be returning many many times in the future!

Andrea Smith YourEssentialPT

Really great and expansive. Good hands on exhibits for kids, and plenty of other things for adults.

Sebastian Jakins

The kids love this place. Lots of stuff to see and also have interactive displays. It's a little on the pricey side.

Rob Hale

The architecture of the museum inside and out is so cool. My 3 kids ages 10-14 especially enjoyed it. We were there for about 3 hours.

Kat

Great place to spend some time learning and viewing a large variety of fascinating specimens in different themed levels and rooms. The architecture of the building itself is interesting. On the ground floor there is a seating area (possibly a cafe?) and a gift shop too. You may want to take advantage of their $5 admission after 5 PM on select Wednesdays.

Andrew Hall

The Natural History Museum of Utah is a great place for people of all ages to learn a bit about the natural wonders of Utah and the beautiful things nature has to offer around us. They have a very large collection including anthropology, zoology, botany, etc. Great place for the kids as they can learn so much about the different aspects of natural history of what has been going on in our state.

Benjamin Porter

Really cool museum. Very nice and clean. They also have a generous military discount between memorial day and labor day. I deeply appreciate this. We saw the Mayan exhibit in this trip and it was a little smaller than expected for the cost, but we really enjoyed it. There were quite a few activities that engaged my kids which made it suitable for bringing them. They did get bored eventually but we got some good mileage out of it. We plan on visiting again.

Brian Kuchmak

I'm going to start with my only complaint. Be prepared to walk, a lot. Parking to the front door is quite a distance. Okay so now on to the positives, this place is awesome. The exhibits are interactive and engaging for people of all ages. The dinosaur rooms are breathtaking. The overall layout and couldn't honestly be done any better because you move from section to section seamlessly. You start on the ground floor and before you realize it you are at the 5th. We spent almost 5 hours here and would go back again in a heartbeat. Be ready to be amazed!

Jesus M

The UNHM was fun educational and affordable, I bring my own daughter as well as my teenage clients I work with every year. You learn so much from the awe inspiring and so eloquently put together exhibits and you can enjoy the beautiful architecture of the building itself. Highly recommend you bring your kids at least once and if you do not have kids it is a great place for a date.

Ben Harris

When first approaching the Natural History Museum of Utah, you're struck by the beautiful exterior, and that same fascination is common throughout exploring this museum. With 5 floors of hands-on and interactive exhibits, visitors of all ages will have something to enjoy. The 'Land' and 'Life' exhibits were by far my favorite, with fun interactive water features, cool bugs, and plenty of interesting things to learn. Would definitely visit the Natural History Museum again.

Quinn and Laura Crawford

Great place for Kids and adults. Probably 1 1/2 or 2 hour walk through. Handicap accessible. Great gift shop and small cafe. Great place for the dinosaur enthusiast and science lover.

Crystal Richardson

My husband Jason and I had an amazing time. Our favorite was the Dinosaur exhibit. The Dinosaurs were displayed well. It was also interesting to watch the process of dinosaur bones being pieced together and examined in a laboratory setting right there in the museum. The volunteer, Sharon, was knowledgeable and talked to us about the dinosaurs and Yellowstone and even recommended a scenic route to drive there. Her recommendations made our trip to the Museum and Yellowstone a memorable one. Date visited: Tuesday September 10, 2019

picklegirls

It is very educational. The museum is a family friendly place and you could spend hours in there. They have multiple different levels in the building, it is organized that way. If science is your jam, especially geology and dinosaur stuff, then you will love this.

Charles Ray

The natural History Museum of Utah is a magnificent building. the main forum is huge and open. the size of the building definitely gives a really fun atmosphere. There is much to learn about the dinosaurs and biology in this museum. Definitely a fantastic place to bring kids.

Jana Patchett

Took my class on a field trip for a class. It was absolutely amazing! The kids were engaged and excited. We learned so much and they were sad to leave.

Elaine Balch

This place is amazing. Great for family fun! So many great displays, the kids never got bored. There’s a hiking trail right by the building too, which leads up into the beautiful mountains. And my children loved all the toys/educational items in the gift shop. We will definitely visit again next chance we get.

Tina Reese

Just wonderful. Kids, adults love this place. So in formative

Natalie Merritt

Loved it. Great museum and cafe!

Ray H

I kind of expected more to be honest. Not as many interactive exhibits or just exhibits than I expected for the cost of admission. Building is nice but doesn't matter if I can do the whole museum in under an hour and a half. Came out of it underwhelmed. The California Academy of Sciences in California I guess has spoiled me.

Jade Murray

Went on a $5 Wednesday night on a date. Was super fun and so cool to see all things related to Utah

Ryan Crafts

Incredible museum. Beautiful architecture. Awesome exhibits. Pleasant staff. Great experience for all ages.

Morgyn Morris

Great place for families and dates. I would definitely go again. Three levels of interactive exhibits and very nice staff.

Adam Kasarda

Beautiful building, great for private events. Exhibits were nice, especially the dinosaur one. Great views all around. There are hiking trails around it as well

Lorrie Brott

We enjoyed our visit. Great exhibits, many interactive exhibits for young and old alike. If you have a dinosaur lover, you must visit the museum. The prehistoric fossils are amazing. There is also information about digs, and you are able to view people cleaning off fossils in their glass laboratory.

Gina Kirkwood

Love this museum! Attended a wedding and reception here. It was a Beautiful venue.

Matthew Buccilli

I loved going here so much. The first exhibit you walk into is all like "whoa! Dinosaurs! Like from our back yard!" So. Many. Dinos. Next thing you know you're learning about rocks and gems and flooding the salt lake valley by making it rain a whoooooole lot. then native Americans. The interactiveness of the exhibits was awesome. Putting together some pot shards or showing how soil erosion carves out the landscape. Then you're in space. Really, this place was worth the trip and thoroughly enjoyable.

ReInvented Relics

What a talented group! The architecture here is stunning

Katie Webb

Much bigger than I thought and spent way more time looking through everything than anticipated. Mostly came for dinosaur bones (which there were a lot of and super cool) but stayed for so much more. Gift shop had some nice things as well.

Kirsten Barbera

One of the best museums I've ever been to. It was incredibly interactive and engaging. Would highly recommend for people of all ages.

Aaron Tokarski

The museum had some very interesting exhibits, particularly the dinosaurs, gem collection, and astronomy/meteorology. Unfortunately the exhibit I originally went to the museum for is overwhelmingly unimpressive... they were showcasing an exhibit regarding Yellowstone National Park. I've been to Yellowstone many times and just love it! I highly recommend going at least once in your lifetime, and if not for the amazing geysers than at the minimum go for the scenery and the beautiful hiking trails and abundant wildlife; anyways I digress. The Yellowstone exhibit was very disappointing as I've said, it's quite literally the same size as one and a half of my garage... I have a large 2 car garage with some space off to the side where 2 four wheelers (large ones) and 2 motorcycles (dirt bikes) can fit, so as you can tell, it was NOT a large exhibit at all! P.S. Yellowstone is best visited in the spring or late summer/early fall. During the heat of the summer the animals are less likely to be out-n-about, plus if you visit in spring you get to see all the babies l and if you're lucky maybe wolf pups!

Cameron Taylor

This was so fun to go to! Wasnt very busy and had tons of stuff to see and do. Great place for family fun and to get some culture and history.

TnR Photography

Awesome layout, the number of fossils on display, especially the dinosaurs. Some interactive exhibits for the kids as well.

Shaylee Bailey

I've visited the Natural History Museum a few times over the years and it never fails to entertain and educate. I especially love showing first-timers the staple exhibits and discovering the new ones together. Always clean and tidy. The employees are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Tave Magana

I loved the dinosaur bones and how everything is set up, but..... I took my little ones thinking they would be engaged but not for toddlers and there isn't much for them to do, I'd say it is fun for mabey 8 and up my oldest loved it he is 9 going on 10

Rocio Matiz

First time visitor from out of state and what a jewel it is this museum in the mountain

Tyler Whited

We love this museum. The permanent installations are incredible, and the special exhibitions keep us coming back for more. They need to crank the AC a little more in the Summer, I keep getting sweaty and wishing I could chill out in my car. Unfortunately I almost always lose my ticket after entering so I can't leave to cool off. This wouldn't be a problem honestly if I listened to my doctor and lost 30lbs. Or they could turn the AC on colder. Either way I'm coming back.

Ethan Cohen

Very cool architecture, though bordering on brutalist. There is a lot to take in here. The exhibit on life made me realize I've forgotten too much of the bio fundamentals I learned in school. The native American cultures exhibits looked great, I didn't spend enough time in them to get a sense of the whole scope, but spent some time watching a video on the Ute Bear Dance that was captivating. They also have an amazing dinosaur collection.

Dialma Jensen

It is an awesome museum! Lots of hands on exhibits for the kiddos. Give yourself about 2 hours to see it all.

La W

This is a wonderful place. The building structure makes every floor interesting as you transition from one learning world to the next. There is a small kids room to play if you have toddlers. I'm excited to visit in the summer to walk the trails along the mountain side.

Mikhayla Sifontes

A beautiful building with a lot of amazing exhibits. I especially loved the interactive portions.

Josiah Marshall

Great experience. I was stunned, however, at the number of employees carrying books around, including a senior supervisor named Alex. Then as if the sheer boredom they wore on there faces was too much they would stop and start reading. One such employee, Arezu, was standing stock still with a book held at elbow height reading as if she was part of the Mayan exhibit. Another employee was seated at a scan desk reading. I highly recommend this place. Do not expect much from the live exhibits. 4 out of 5 for exhibits. 0 out of 5 for staff. A deep concern I had though was a kid walking around in a shirt and underwear. I am not kidding!

Luke McBride

Very fun! My 5 year old sister loves this place.

Angelica Tovar

Great exhibitions. Information and kids can explore and learn a lot. As Native Americans Our solar system. Science, animals, ecosystems. Dinosaurs. Great Salt Lake Valley land, rocks, insects.

Tana Jensen

The building is quite nice and the displays are good quality. Aside from the dinosaur fossils, most of the information wasn't that interesting to us. I imagine if we were local middle school children doing a school field trip then this would be good for creating a report, but for someone not from Utah this probably isn't worth your time. It closes pretty early for such a big new museum. Probably because not many people go here and they were just sponsored by the big copper mining company and they're subsidized by the government and university. Overall I wish we had spent our limited time in Salt Lake City somewhere more interesting for tourists.

Claudia Oyuela

I loved the museum. You can really educate yourself here. There's so much to see. Five floors. The top floor is called "Sky" about the Native American Indians; beautiful exhibition. And you can actually see the sky. The first floor has the huge dinosaur exhibition. You can see real paleontologists at work. All floors have activities for children. This is a very instructive place and super beautiful. The middle floors are the history of everything else about humanity.

Yuan LIU

This is like a wonderland, but with real things - and directions. Serious directions. Just the amount of dinosaur fossils is enough to soak a day - or two. (We didn't have a full day's stay.) But Natural History Museum of Utah is much more than that. I have never seen so many type specimens in one place, dinosaur or non-dinosaur. Must be a heaven for researchers, too. If I go to Salt Lake City again, I will want to visit this museum again.

Britt F

Nice museum with an amazing view! We will be back with our children, because they will love this museum. Lots of things to try out. There's also a stunning hike starting next to the building going up!

Judge Leverich

Such a great museum! What a difference from the old location on Presidents Circle.

christine chastain

Amazing attention to detail - LEED building, beautifully designed and thought through to maximize visitor enjoyment. The horned dinosaur collection is a highlight as is the exhibit on the great salt lake. Revolving exhibits are always a highlight and well curated. Kids and adults love this place. Bonus: being able to see inside the storage facility and to watch employees working. Mega bonus: great hiking trails right behind the building.

Carrie Marsh

Great exhibits that were simple yet interesting enough for a wide variety of ages to understand. My kids really enjoyed the interactive portions which are spread throughout the museum.

Bryce Goose

Excellent. Really stunning dinosaur displays. Hands on exhibits actually work and are fun for kids and adults.

Rebecca Elliott

So many great exhibits i feel i need t to go visit again suitable for all ages

Karen Castillo

Utah is known for a lot of things, including some odd cultural things that make no sense elsewhere, like the concept of “funeral potatoes.” But beyond the cultural quirks is a rich history of First Nations people, unique plants and animals perfectly adapted to what is often a very harsh environment, a massive prehistoric lake that gave rise to the now famous Great Salt Lake, behemoth dinosaurs, and a dynamic geology that gifted us our beautiful mountains and our iconic red rocks. All of that can be explored at the Utah Museum of Natural History. Definitely worth a trip if you want to get to know “Utah.”

Lenny Rogan

The Natural History Museum of Utah is one of my favorite museums of all time. Unlike the Natural History Museum of New York, this place is quiet enough to be able to read the information and enjoy the experience. There are interactive exhibits that are super fun, especially if you have kids, and the information is relevant. The dinosaur exhibit holds the largest collection of horned fossils in the world! Additionally, the café inside has surprisingly good food and drinks, so there's a great place to cool off after your visit. Lastly, the architecture and surrounding area are beautiful, and you will absolutely not be disappointed with the views.

Alex Koshkin

Great place to spend a half a day or more. A lot of interactions for children and adults. Good cafe inside the building with outdoor sitting.

Nina Jiron

We haven't been in years. The changes are wonderful...moving in a circle from dinosaur times upward to ours. And the Native American exhibit was beautiful.

William Laws

Maybe 2 hours, very cool Dino's, history, and geology. An incredible amount of 10 and under children - loud and underfoot.

Scott Elder

Really cool museum. It was a little crowded on the day we went, but it never felt claustrophobic or overwhelming. Very interesting artifacts on display, a great way to visually experience Utah's history from prehistoric to present. Probably better for kids that are at least in kindergarten, as there are limited activities for very young ones, but if it is not too crowded, there are some areas where pre-school aged kids could play and enjoy.

Cameron Farah

I really enjoyed this museum. You have to set your expectations... This isn't like the New York Natural History Museum, but it still has what I think is a very good dinosaur bone collection. Another exhibit I enjoyed was a visual history of Utah's terrain going back 30 million years (small exhibit in a hallway, but very intriguing). Lastly, the other exhibit I loved was the Yellowstone exhibit. They had a great description of elk migrations in and out of Yellowstone as well as some breathtaking documentary videos shot there as well. It is worth the visit!

Deirdre Nitsche

One of the best Museums I have visited! Very kid friendly - our boys had a blast with their friends with all the activities. I'd recommend starting at the top and working your way down. I learned a lot about Utah, and so did my significant other even though he has lived here is whole life! Also, can't beat $5 entry on Wednesdays after 5pm! Parking can be limited when busy.

Miranda F

Went to see the Yellowstone exhibit since we were just there last month. Apparently this area is not kid friendly. We were the first ones there when they opened on a Sunday. The worker followed us around and told us everything my 3 year old couldn't do or touch. We were watching the film and the 3 year old started to cry and we were asked to leave. A total waste of the $40 we spent for admission plus the time it took to drive from utah county. If exhibits are not kid friendly please advertise this so I don't waste my time or money!

azuzena lopez

5 dollars after 5pm on Wednesday throughout the winter months !!! Great when you are on a tight budget.

Kelli Green

My kids love this place and ask to go all the time! Lots of fun for everyone and a nice outing on a hot summer day or cold winter day.

Kieran Wright

Really fun museum! I wish they had more space stuff though. The top floor would make an incredible interstellar exhibit!

Maria Cameron

Our new (to me) Natural History Museum is excellent. We have it all: awesome new building (great for receptions and events which is why I originally visited), interesting exhibits that rotate and it is all in the beautiful foothills of SLC with a good view of the city and access to Red Butte Garden Hiking Trails.

Rob Gisseman

I always love the rotating exhibits on the second floor! The dinosaur exhibit has an open window where you can view the paleontologists working on fossils and things. Feels exactly like Jurassic Park!

Jade Sutera

Super fun place to take your kids! Lots of fun activities, and lots to learn about. Love the different exhibits, super sad they’re closing their Mayan exhibit for a bit, but hopefully it will reopen with new updates, and is able to wow other guests taking a trip there.

Courtney Barbato

Excellent museum. Great cafe with cute gift shop. Bonus: it's right at a trail head that leads into the foot hills. Husband and I toured the museum then got lunch to go from the cafe. It took about 20 min of walking to get to a flat outlook point above the city where we stopped and ate lunch. It was the perfect tourist morning.

Fernando Cordova

Incredible curated museum, the space is amazing, and views of SLC are spectacular. Had an event here, service and food were five star. EXCELLENT!

Jason Gubler

Took our grandkids her, they loved the dinosaurs . Its a great Museum

Jesse Lee

I enjoyed looking at all of the exhibits it has been many years since I went and I still really enjoyed it as an adult great place for all to enjoy themselves.

Laura Hill

Really interesting museum and fun. We were lucky and came on a day it was free. The kids loved it.

Capri Bailey

Beautiful museum, amazing architecture, incredible exibits and classes. I go to just sit in the lobby and rejuvenate ...

Rachel Robbins

This place was AWESOME!!! Great day date location. I had a blast and learned so much, expect to spend about 3 hours here and lots of walking. I loved the patios with some really stellar views of Salt Lake City and the mountains. I would return here in a heartbeat

James Johnson

Greatest Utah history archive in the State and possibly the country! Not enough hours in the day to take it all in in one visit.

Ariel Gilligan

This museum was incredible! So many cool things to look at and learn about, and it was presented in a way that makes learning fun for kids and adults, too! The were some hands-on learning stations that give you a better understanding of the hard work that paleontologists and archaeologists do to recreate the past, and my 3-year-old had a blast putting together the fossil dinosaur head, excavating bones, and putting together pottery. This place definitely fosters a love of learning!

George Pierce

Such a wonderful place to spend a day or afternoon with the family. My 4 yr. old loved it, and even my 1 yr. old was intrigued most of the visit!

Sarah Barnes

This museum is a really cool place. They've got a great cafe, and gift shop. I've been on a couple different occasions and they seem to have more things every time. I've enjoyed days when they do tours of the special collection. As well as the Wednesday family nights! I was impressed by the level of interactive fun. There are so many difference things for adults and kids.

Shannon Stanley

It was very cool, good parking beautiful location and really nicely done mesuem, fun friendly staff good prices.

Nick Bishop

For a family as big as ours (nine kids, six under 16), the UMNH is a godsend. There is something for all ages at this museum - I promise that you'll find something interesting here. The special exhibition is really interesting (animals around us) and they rotate the exhibit every so often. There is a small cafe with great food that is on the high end of reasonably priced. Absolutely recommend the UMNH.

Maria Conover

Loved the museum! Also saw a very close friend featured in the Native American exhibit, whom is no longer with us. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Kevin Hernandez

FABULOUS museum! A great place in SLC to get a nice, much needed dose of truth! For those of us who are free thinkers, SLC can feel very oppressive since the state government is directly controlled by the mormon church. I appreciate seeing scientific facts being shared in way way even the most simple minded folks can digest. Very fabulous museum, beautiful setting and magnificent architecture!

Nicole Towers

This is a great museum. There are so many interactive places to learn from. The dinosaur bones are really cool, and the is so much information from the first people through the structures of the earth, and current living things.

Victor Berchet

The museum is a very nice building. The collections are interesting and very well suited for young children. There is also a nice restaurant for lunch.

Marcelo Archiza Almeida

The place is good, the event I went there was terrible. They oversold tickets to a "market place". So it is like you went to Disney, but at the end of the line there was not that much fun, just an opportunity to spend your money with some merchandise. So we spent most of our time walking around and that was good enough for me to rate this place a 5 star and I would give 2 stars to the chocolate event, because I bought the best olives I have ever eaten.

Darrin Lary

Very well curated museum. Interesting exhibits. Amazing views from balconies. Love the fossils and geology exhibits

Have two kids one who is five and one who is one. This is a great place to take kids! They have so many fun interactive things for the kids to do as we walk around the museum. Lots of things for the littles to touch and play with. It's also fun as an adult!

Janis RB

Love having this so close. The exhibits are great.

Jan Stearns

Really great, interesting and informative exhibits, friendly staff, clean restrooms. Not to mention cool dinosaur bones!

Patryk Glosowitz

This place has it all. From dinosaurs, to rocks, rock formations, archeology, ancient basket weaving, evolution and the evolution of Earth, animals, plants and much much more. If you're into science, prepare to spend half a day here as there's 5 floors of awesome information. There's hands on activities, as well as some fun puzzles, interactive exhibits, as well as models of dinosaurs and preserved animals and plants. The amount of reading available here at each exhibit is minimal, but gives you valuable insight into what you're viewing or smelling. Yup. There's places you can sniff what it was like thousands of years ago. Using the TrailHeads app, you can get even more information on certain subjects, as well as pictures, and the occasional narration. Well worth the LOW price of admission.

Best dinosaur collection for certain. Rest of it just ok. Also a bit disappointed that many areas where closed on a Friday. Terrace closed, star room closed, gardens closed. Also we were between exhibitions so no exhibition as well...price paid was full price. I thought it should have been discounted as much of it was not available. Also no family plan or price so expensive for large families. Aside from cool dinosaur collection, our highlight was hiking steep trails behind building to see great view of city. Trails are free.

This is a great museum. I love the dinosaur fossils and the interactive displays. The native American displays are beautiful and informative. This place is very clean and well kept. It is great for kids!

I really liked this museum. Not like a new York one but still cool to see that they had as much as they did. The cheese and chocolate festival was pretty fun. The best vendor hands down was White Lake Farms the two that run it are awesome and they had the best honey I've ever tasted. I had to buy a jar because it was so yummy. Not to mention real.

Keely McLure

It was great! great price and our tickets had "free year passes" with them

I have enjoyed visiting the Natural History Museum of Utah for many years. The museum is great for all ages. Family events are held during holidays, with Halloween being a favorite. I appreciate the exhibits relevant to regional geography and history, not only in terms of natural resources and prehistoric dinosaurs, but also with a focus on first people in the region. I also know that the museum is home to collections of great value for building new knowledge about the world, and operates in close concert with educational institutions throughout the state to provide interesting and relevant curriculum. I really enjoy looking into the windows of the vault and specimen processing rooms.

Beth Tucker

What a great place for kids and adults too. It's lots of fun for the kids to run up and down all the ramps around the humongous skeletons. It's awing to see the scope and size of these prehistoric animals. The scope and preservation of anthropology findings are really interesting for those interested in hunter gatherer ages. The museum itself is kind of a behemoth beast itself. There's lots of paths inside and especially outside for kids to run til they're ragged. The city view on the side of the mountain is spectacular, I loved this place.

This is by far one of the BEST Natural History Museums I have ever been to. Very well organized and very informative.

D Manning

Beautiful place. Very impressed with the architecture and the dinosaur exhibit. Nice place to visit with family/friends or alone. The observatory deck and the cafe also a nice place to relax.

Michael Brown

Very well done and worthwhile. Kids will love dinosaur exhibit and other interactive exhibits.

Corey Martin

For the price, it can't be beat. Plenty of interactive, informative and beautifully executed displays to keep your mind engaged.

Stephanie Jacob

Lots of fun and exciting things to look and learn about! I especially loved the Native American exhibit on the top floor and the look out area!

Kristina Abbey

Amazing dinosaur exhibit. The temporary Yellowstone exhibit was good. I was a little disappointed by the missing weather instruments on the weather station. Also a little confused by the Salt Lake exhibit, specifically the floor design. Above the rest though, the dinosaurs were just amazing.

Cali Wille

I love coming here. I've been coming since I was 10, now I'm 19 and it still amazes me and let's my inner child shine. Good opportunity to let children (or adults) have hands on learning for hours. It's clean, it's gorgeous, and decently priced.

Chris Clark

Fun exhibits for kids to see, and interesting things to be learned!

Michael J. Thomas

My family enjoys the exhibits and all, but for me personally the location, views, architecture, and use of space make this a pretty special place.

Rose Rubinger

Fantastic easy to follow & learn. Great functional architecture, a must see

Anna Birenbaum

This was a great natural history museum. There are tons of exhibits to see. We loved the minerals and rocks along with wall that viewed into the storage room. What a fun place to work there were specimens everywhere. The classroom on the top floor was adorable and the people working the exhibits were so knowledgeable and good with the kids!

Charles D. Sutherland

Probably the best NH museum I've ever visited! Great collection and interactive exhibition! I recommend starting at the top and going down. Be wary of outlying exhibits on the way, as the path tends to guide you straight through the mains.

Nitin Sethi

A beautiful place to know the history. A must visit when you visit Utah.

Darlene Brunzell

Fantastic museum in a wonderful building. The dinosaur exhibit is fabulous.
