REVIEWS OF Moqui Cave IN Utah

We saw this whole in the rock and had to turn around to check out and it was worth it. This was originally a bar now it is a museum, fair price to get in and great little gift shop. This is a place I would stop again for sure.

Jeff Miller

Interesting and inexpensive place to stop. This was once a bar and dance hall for people working in the movie industry around Kanab. Many neat artifacts and fossils on display. Owners/ curators are very nice and helpful.

Katherine Baumert

Interesting knowledge and history facts shared by staff. Lots of western memorabilia to be looked at

Amanda Crinigan

Well worth the cost of admission. How cute is it that the cave is a museum? It's quite informative and unique. Quick stop for a bit of touristy fun on your way to Zion or the other surrounding parks.

Eric Peterson

Not much to see some glow in the dark rocks a few fossils other than that nothing!

Lisa C.

Loved it!! The owner was super informative and very knowledgeable.

Adella Cortes

The cave is interesting. But is it worth the price of admission? It's mostly a gift shop. They do have things on display, but I'll leave my personal options about them to my diary. The history/story behind the cave is interesting to hear.

Brandy Reader

Pretty neat historical place. Excellent customer service. Knowledgable about the history. Extensive American Indian, local movie films, rock, and fossil display.

marsha hyatt

Classic Americana Roadside attraction! Family run, great history, not to be missed.

Reid Gulley

It's a tourist trap. Worth seeing once.

David Walker

Pretty cool place to visit. $5.00 fee to get in. A constant 60 degrees year round, so nice in the summer. Lots of geology to view and a gift shop.

Thomas McNabb

Nice place for a stop if you are traveling on highway 89

Shawn Sunyich

So I never made it into the tourist stop, but half way between the Best Friends Animal Shelter & Moqui Cave, on the same side of the road, there is another cave that is hidden up in the rocks. What an amazing find (if you are lucky enough to find it. Such a beautiful area. Will be back with more friends & family soon .

Heather Rizzo

You have to pay to get into the gift shop, but the attractions outside of the shop are nice to look at.

Elliott Acosta

This was a great stop and very interesting for fellow history buffs. The host Lindsey, was incredibly kind and helpful. We can't say enough nice things.

Elias Barcelo

Nice place ..big part of the history of Utah

Angela Cater

Absolutely Beautiful

Shane Cahill

Amazing place you should go there.

Keiko Mukai

Admission Fee $6.00 A small & Cozy Museum with some antique collection. This place is different from the Sand Cove little South (towards the Kanab)from this Museum

Greg Giordano

During our stay in Utah this was one of the most interesting "attractions" or "museums." Founded as a refuge for early settlers to the area, it has been a roadside stop for decades. In my opinion the large collection of fossils, especially dinosaur, was the main draw. Other items such as firearms and other objects found in nearby areas only heightened the historical significance of the museum. I would encourage anyone who may be passing through to spend the nominal fee to visit. If you don't, you will look back with regret, especially if it is doubtful you will be out this way again.

Cindi Jenkins

Fun place for history, gems, dinosaurs and education

#AngellAdventures

Worth the $5/person to get in and see everything they have in there! It's larger than it looks initially. Great stop for kids and adults alike!

Jennie Bass

The website doesn't have prices posted ($4 for kids and $6 for adults, I think), but I didn't think a roadside museum would be free, so I was prepared. It was really neat and a sandwich truck outside had drinks and of course, sandwiches. The outside is beautifully landscaped and shaded and includes outdoor family games and wifi, which was quite handy since Verizon had no signal there! The people who work in the museum are quite friendly and knowledgeable. There are only 3 rooms, so don't expect it to be a day trip. It's more like a lovely way to break up a long drive if it's on your way.

Brianna Smith

Cool place to visit

Austin ColesTroy

Super cool

Robert Montgomery

Great sidetrip. You need to find a cave to visit every once in a while.

Dan Harvey

Great Historic Rest Stop .. Museum is very educational Great for kids!

Esli Sotelo

The outside looks outstanding but we passed by just a little late to check out the inside. Can't wait to go back and check it out!

ti lane

Another wonderful place to stop. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids can play in the sandpit. Restrooms-yes They have a food stand and picnic area.

Ombeline Sculfort

Really fun Unexpected on the road Café and free wi-fi

Ken Crandall

Great stop along the way. Cool things to see, great artistic aesthetic, and cave is larger than we thought.

Mariza Wolf

Cute stop was not able to see the caves due to getting sick shortly after arriving.

Armando Garcia

Awesome place to stop by for a cool story and a piece of history on any vacation trip.

Gina Guajardo

My daughter is a History and Science nerd and ABSOLUTELY LOVED this cave! She had a great geological and historical talk with Ms Chamberlain our host.

Fernando Castillo

I am so glad i found this treat on my trip of Utah. This Cave was originally bought by the owners parents and grand parents. The grand daughter gives you the history of the cave. It was originally opened as a Saloon and dance hall. Now it is a Museum of the fossils and dinosaur tracks her grandfather found. Most within a 10 mile radius of the cave. Definitely worth the entrance fee.

misty dawn brotton

It was suppose to be open, but it was not. But out side was nice.

Rocky Lawter

Had so much fun! The kids loved looking around the cave at all the artifacts and the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be going back.

Marcus McCaleb

Seemed cooler when I was 6.

steve porter

Nice family business. Interesting artifacts

Donna Schlechter

Very interesting bit of history. Well worth the $5.00 to view.

Perry Pendleton

nice place. way cool

Jonathan E Blackwell

Try the food and ice cold coca cola. The cave is cool too.

Andrea Gatti

Nothing really to see. Save the money and use it in a better way

Sister Horne

Says it was open today at 9a.m. 9/24/18. It wasn't theres no information about seasonal closures and no service at the location to phone them. I was really looking forward to seeing this and I was largely disapointed. It was on my top three places to see in kanab.

Omer,Anat Gazit

Nice little cave with different things to see inside. Really nice owner.

Daniela Lee

There is a museum that is $6, and the glowing rock collection there is really good. Most of it though is a gift shop, but you can not go into the gift shop unless you pay the museum fee. In the gift shop you have your regular array of tourist gifts. They have jewlery they say is from several native tribes and they have said all of them are Sterling silver and various gems. We have bought a ring but did not check the stamping on it. Later in the day we noticed a chip on the side of it and it looked like it had been only perhaps veneered in silver and not solid silver. We went to return it the next day and the seller was offended and upset. We looked at other rings and some had the Sterling silver stamp and some did not but she kept insisting they were all silver, however couldn't provide a certificate of authenticity. We told her that either way we wanted to return and then she tried to tell us they don't allow returns, however they did not have any sign in the shop saying that. We finally got it returned, but the experience was disappointing as the seller kept trying to guilt us into keeping the ring and feigning being appalled at the though of perfectly fine merchandise being returned and how that has never happened to her before. You are better off finding the authentic Navajo little shops in the area and buying directly from them, they have the Sterling silver stamps and the certificates of authenticity and you are not enriching the middle white man. This is the Moqui cave of lies.

Arthur Reynolds

It was awesome. Fun history, clean, friendly, take a friend.

Dado Rox

Pure magic, very nice tour in the cave!

Breanna Beal

I loved it they even let me bring my little dog in as long as I held him in my arms while in there. Very friendly

Mary Hardy

All I can say is I love caves so I loved this place. The displays and gift shop wet amazing. The displays throughout were great and learned a lot while looking through the different rocks and how things were made and used. Great place.

Mike Campbell

Great unique place to visit. The kids loved it. The owners also provided an adhoc tour guide for cool places around the area that are off the beaten path. Definitely worth a visit.

Oliver Vence Gonzales

The cave is owned by the descendants of a geologist who also happens to be an archaeologist who also happens to be s paleontologist. His personal collection is displayed (for a fee) - from rocks to fossils to prehistoric human artifacts.

Olivier Termont

Pity that it was closed but it's nice already from outside

Floyd Nesbit

Nice very friendly

Jon Ward

We absolutely loved it! Its a quaint little cave nestled in a sand stone cliff. it is chuck full of artifacts and history. Reasonably priced. A great family delight! We will return.

Justin MacDonald

A lot of talk about one family. I don't think I will go back. It was $6 to get a tour. Took about 30 min to walk through

Matthew

Cool place but if you need to pee, pee in the trees outside the cave. Other than the numerous pee puddles it was amazing!

Donavan Jones

Nice place to stop in and check out collections of petroglyph's and a bit of western history. Family ran and friendly as could be. Please visit, worth six bucks for an adult admission. The gift shop has quite a bit of selection also.

Lida Trigub

Lovely place to find out something new about rocks ;) very nice and attentive staff!

Melissa Oviatt

Website says they're open today from 10 am until 5 pm. Since we weren't going to be back from Bryce Canyon National Park by 5, we waited until the museum opened to start our day. Got there at 10:15am, there was only a "CLOSED No Trespassing" sign and locked gates. No sign with their hours, nothing. There were quite a few people who showed up, as well, only to be disappointed. We thought they were open when we passed yesterday because of all the cars, I believe it was because they were being disappointed like we were today. Update your website, please. Our whole morning was wasted due to the website being wrong. Update: passed again and they were open, and it was an interesting experience. The cave and family history are pretty cool, and the relics (dinosaur bones, footprints, Native American pottery, etc.) are cool to look at.

Tina Reese

Wonderful. Beautiful. The gal knows her stuff. You have to go there!!!. So enriching with culture .

Mike Sanford

Lots of interesting fossils, bones, rocks & Local history of the old cave bar. Third generation owner.

Tony Cobb

Very worth the 6 bucks! .... and I hate tourist traps! Fair and some great prices! Love the glowing black light rocks, I had no idea!

Gretchen Rowe

If you're big into local history, geology, or art, this is fun. But it's really not something I would ever visit more than once. It's a family owned business inside a cave. It used to be a bar and dance hall, but now they call it a "museum." It's mostly a collection of geological samples and artwork made by the original owner. It only takes about 20 minutes to go through and costs $6 for an adult. If you're big into caving like me, it feels underwhelming. If you're looking for a quick touristy stop with a gift shop, its good for that.

Stacie Martin

Tourist trap. Going in we knew it was a tourist trap and we went as a joke. Essentially burned 20 bucks. Really a perfect example of person robbing an area of artifacts and fossils and slapping up a cheesy "museum". The artifacts from Mexico if authentic are a shameful example of robbing a country of its cultural artifacts. Do yourself a favor...enjoy Bryce, Zion, and Grand Canyon N. P. Those are worth the time

Cristina Clerico

I love the history of this place. The cave, itself, is not huge, but the family story is worth stopping for. Many cool artifacts.

Carol Kennedy

Great place to stop.

liz goggin

Really interesting

Bob Elkins

Stopped by there today and it was great. Awesome artifacts and assorted things to see. Great background narrative by Sage the beautiful cave girl!! Several good “Dad Jokes”!! I will return!!

Dan-O The Mad Scientist

Wow! This place was the jam! Beautiful and rich in history! The owner and daughter were super awesome, helpful and informative!!! A must stop!

Randy Burris

Great stop and site to see.

Charlene Marie Roberts

A spur of the moment pull over lead us to Moqui Cave. Amazing dinosour tracks and Moqui artifacts. She (I wish I had her name) was knowledgeable and you could tell she enjoyed telling Garth's story even if it was for the millionth time. :)

Heather Taylor

So much fun visiting here! This cave has a fun history, awesome attractions and amazing artifacts!

Tyler Durden

Words can't describe how amazing this place was. It had history everywhere, this is such a cool stop to make on any trip. The Girl I met there was Sage Chamberlain. She very nice, friendly, laid back, sweet, kind and INFORMATIVE of everything. Definitely stop and check out the cave for sure if you love history, geology, and Dinosaurs.

queenabby 77

When we first walked in, the guide told us that the cave used to be a bar and dance Hall in the 1950s. Frankly, I think that the experience would have been MUCH more enjoyable if it had remained that way. What the "museum" lacks in variety, interest, and overall enjoyment , it makes up for in tacky western imagery, cheap decorations, and not-so-impressive exibits. I would not recommend spending your time and money here.

Pamela Martinelli

Different and very interesting.

Twocheslch

This is an old Indian home. It's really cool to see the architecture employed by the primitive nation's! This place (up until just recently) was owned by my grandfather's friend, who added an interactable set, and some information stands we're put up. When we came today, it was closed. It might open again, but even if it doesn't it's a must see.

Jason Brown

If you like touristy road side attractions, you'll like this place. Quirky and kinda fun, says I! It doesn't take long to explore all of their exhibits, but that's a good thing when it comes to fitting into a vacation plan. Well done cave entrepreneurs!

Mummum#1 Damron

So happy we stopped and spent time here.. enjoyed it very much.. Loved the family's history behind the story.

Silva

Amazing tourism place to see geology from all over America. There's a small gift shop with plenty of souvenirs to choose from. Would definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area. There is an entry fee, 6$ for adult, 4$ for children and free for 5 and under

Josh K

This place was pretty cool! You have to pay for entry but there is a lot of history here including dinosaur fossils, rocks, and more.

Erica Tacker

It's a neat place to stop with a different twist to it. This cave has been owned going on 4 generations and has history dating back to some of the first Western being filmed and the actors who would come to visit.

Lisa Rosselli

Cute little place to check out. It's family owned and has a great story behind it's existence in their family. Definitely check it out. It's a self tour through the cave. It has a nice gift shop too!

walter roberts

Something you should visit! Great history as well.

Michelle Eun Young Seo

Had an acai bowl at he cafe and it was great! The whole cave was really cool, with an interesting history and collection and an awesome little gift shop.

Marlo Anderson

Love the rocks, the fossils and the bar stools. This place has a crazy histrory you have to see to believe!

Victoria Snow

Cool little tourist spot with lots of rocks and artifacts

Karen Cluff

Cool and kitschy. Kinds of still wish it was a bar

T Scott Rees

Fun little place to stop. According to the curator at the cave , her grandfather opened the cave up in 1952, and was a favorite stopping place for the actors and actresses, from T.V. and the movies. Used to be a bar, and dance hall frequented by the likes of John Wayne ( The Dike ).

Jhulliana L Gilmore

Inexpensive, short but sweet. Museum type. Girl at the front was very knowledgeable and friendly.

Jasmine Walts

Very personable easy access and interesting! A great stop to stretch your legs and go!

Patience Owenby

It's kinda a tourist trap. Not an expensive one, but still.

Mike Kinney

very good panni

Donna Luttrell

It is a must see. By far my favorite place.

Candice Bright

This looked really awesome from the outside.. I'm sad they were closed so early. Still did a little exploring around the area which is stunning

JAMES TURNER

A "Must stop", largest collection of florescing minerals that I have ever seen. Ancient Native American Indian pottery, spear heads, arrowheads, and much more. Dinosaur tracks, more than I have ever viewed. Well worth the low admission price of $6. Let the friendly staff know you were military, and your admission is free. Pleasantly cool year arohnd, too!

rpkpfishing

If you dont like cave stuff and ancient history type stuff, dont stop here if it doesnt catch your attention. But I thought it was actually pretty cool it had different rocks and gems from different places, fossils, and more. There is a fee to enter though.

Amber Bingham

This was such a fun stop on our Kanab visit. The caves have been made into a museum and gift shop. The children loved the opportunity to get into a real cave.

Jaquetta Wright

A great display. Well worth the trip.

SkullzYT

Overpriced but cool

Debbie Villa

We were driving thru when we came across this little museum. It was a bar before it became a museum. Must see..

Brian McKenna

Really cool unique place with great staff and family that cares about their legacy! Worth a stop and see something different and full of history.

Mary Benavente

Surprised to discover the history behind this cave. The Moqui Cave was converted to a bar and dance hall back in the 1950's and is now used to display a personal Art Gallery with a unique mineral and local artifacts collection.

Joseph

It is very big, but good for little kids.

kestutis nikolajevas

got to stop by and see this place it's nice and pleasant stop with lots of history and good cold brew coffee.

ramon larios

The cafe guy was so helpfull and polite very friendly with all the items that he offerd great costumer service, i defenitly will go back again looking for this kind of service!!!

Erik Donohoo

Where to begin. The very definition of a tourist trap. It’s a little upsetting that you basically pay to enter a gift shop. It isn’t a museum. It’s honestly insulting to what museums are to call this a museum. The staff lady is nice and super interested in making sure you know their family history of how they bought the cave. If you were looking for the Moqui Cave Hike, it starts at the south end of their property next to the Dino bone sandbox area at the south end. The fence is pulled back and opens right to the trail. They will tell you it starts a quarter mile down the road cuz they don’t want you using their parking lot for it. But the trail really starts right here.

Kaylene Cole

Wonderful collection of native artifacts, great gift shop

Amber Wood

Very cool place to stop. Great gift shop with Native American goods. Huge florescent rock collection, dinosaur tracks and other artifacts. Fun to hear the stories behind the history of this beautiful cave.

gina lanning

Great display, staff very friendly, very helpful

Penny Booher

Lots of artifacts, cool cave

Marco Looij

A little smaller than expected..but nice

Erica Shotwell

Looked really awesome from the outside, however their page and phone recording said they would be open at certain times and when we arrived they were closed. Kids were really looking forward to check it out. Reviews looked great but only 3 stars because they weren't opened as they said they would be.

James Stockard

Cool place

Sheri M Abersold

Very cool place!

Scott Lane

I needed to stretch my legs on a drive from Phoenix to SLC and thought "What the heck". The cave history from the 50's was very interesting, but the private collection of anthropological and geological specimens was more than enough to justify the few bucks. The Southwest geology has always piqued my interests as the layers and layers of various epochs of time are laid bare by more time and erosion. This with the anthropological histories of our North American predecessors and their adaptations to their environment is fascinating. I am sure there is a target market that they are pandering to, but the oddly placed references to supernatural claims for crystals and geodes took away from the visit.

Michael Thawng

It is chill inside, but it is so interesting

S Renaudie

We enjoyed our visit to the museum. Inside you'll find the souvenir shop (oddly enough you can only get in if you pay the visit fee of $6, the main cave with an extensive collection of rocks (the mineral geeks will enjoy without any doubt) and the bar which was originally created by the owner. The entrance is (wo)manned by the grand daughter of the owner who explained why and how the cave was created. It was a good insight into the conservative Utah of the last century, otherwise you wouldn't necessarily understand why it was so controversial at the time, especially when you come from a modern progressive country.

JulienDave Jo.

Just a museum in what used to be a pretty cool cave.

Jaime Pokhoy

Very cool experience, Sage was a great guide and super helpful!

Stephanie Hearn

A great place to stop and check out a little piece of history and beauty! The owner/manager was nice enough to share his family's history with us and also let us know some secrets and trails for our travels today! Beautiful rocks and awesome dinosaur tracks as well! Glad we made this stop!

Kathleen Boehringer

Interesting history & artifacts.

Dominic Dougherty

Loved it! I wish I was able to spend more time and really take in all the artifacts that are gathered here. The collection of fluorescent minerals, dinosaur tracks, Native American and early pioneering artifacts isn't even the most interesting thing about this 200-foot deep cave in the Three Lakes Canyon - the story and history of the family that owns and runs the museum is fascinating! Well worth the modest $6 price of admission. Beautiful shade trees and comfortable picnic tables offer a relaxing place to enjoy a meal from the food truck outside the cave, serving up acai bowls, smoothies and some fancy paninis.

Silvia Gonzalez

Great spot to stop and stretch out your legs and learn a little history about the area.

Joe Broere

loved it. Came across it by accident but loved every minute. The guide was awesome and answered all our questions

electro wasabi

Nice spot to take a break from a long drive. Smoothies were tasty.

Les White

Not open evertime we stop

Don Reynolds

It was fun, cool and inspiring. Art work, creativity from over 60 plus years ago. Go. It's clean and amazing

Quindy Sammler

Fun place to visit. Very nice owners/workers.

Tibor Horvath

Very cool unique little museum with lots of history and very interesting artefacts, fossils, minerals, etc. Well worth to stop by for a visit. When we visited they had also live music and raffles to win gifts, and we won a T-shirt and Cap combo.

Ron Larsen

Relatively small cave with a large gift shop. A few cool historical items. There is a charge just to enter the cave, which seemed odd

Susan Lofink

Really neat cave with a history that dates way back. Granddaughter of owner is very knowledgeable about the archeology in the area as well as what the cave holds. Knows area well, knows where to go to find what you're looking for.

Katherine Funk

It's actually a really cool experience. Learning about how the cave was previously used, the history, and all the cool things surrounding it. I really enjoyed the entire thing, especially the staff(who are family of the original owner).

Karla Snapper

Really cool cave, staff was super friendly and informative. Worth the stop.

Kimber-ly Schaub-Birge

Stop stop stop!! Turn around if you must....but go back. Takes about an hour (or more if you like history) but take the time. So worth it.

Marcus Schultheis

It was a nice little roadside stop with some mildly interesting exhibits and a well stocked gift shop. This is a 15-30 minute pit stop while you are traveling in the area, not a destination.

Lelani Calderon

So beautiful! Rocks that take your breath away. And the girl "hosting".......absolutely beautiful. Go! It's so full of awe and history.

Danielle Newport

Of all the businesses my husband and I visited during our trip to Zion, Moqui Cave is probably our favorite! We loved looking at the exhibits, talking with the friendly staff, and picking up local souvenirs to bring home to family. And of course the location is amazing!

Kaila Valenzuela

I gave it four stars because it was closed when it said it was open, but it was so beautiful and in a nice quiet place where me and my family could take pictures

Roger Thomas

We didn't take the tour of the cave but the outside is worth looking at.

Jesus Dominguez

The temperature never goes higher than 65 degrees (without AC) while outside was 100+. Nice place. A little small but it's not expensive. Worth checking out if you're around.

AJ Capen

A great place to learn about some history about the cave and how it has came to be. You can also see some histroy pieces! I would recommend it!

Randi Wilson

Such an awesome history! Make sure you ask for the tour!

Glen Root

The cave was very interesting, with lots of native American and dinosaur relics. They also have lots of rocks and minerals on display. I really liked their gift shop. There was a small restaurant where you can get a sandwich and drink.

tracy spencer

Awesome Place!

Craig Keyser

Totally amazing place to visit. Don't pass this up. The guide was very informative. I think he is a grandson of the guy that developed the cave. Great artifacts and history, even some dinosaur tracks.

Pamela Adams

Fun Quirky - great gift shop. Owned & operated by friendly family!

N McRae

Great history and tour guide. Too easy to drive by. Very interesting

Eric Ackerly

Loved the gift shop and smoothie bar. Costs $6 per person. Lots of gifts and its 60 degrees year round

Richard Seal

Interesting place to see, but to be honest I don't think the price of admission was worth it for a large family, so we did not go in.

Trish Stedman

Did not get to go inside so the rating is just for the view but....damn. its beautiful

Amanda Hatch Wilcock

Interesting and fun!

Susan Fults

Trent was amazing!! I didn't get the other boys name but he was great too!! Sold me a freaking awesome frog for my sister!!

Johana Bradley

We just stop by on our long roadtrip. There is a small fee to enter the cave.

Rod Watkins

This is a wonderful private museum run by the grandchildren of a serious geologist/anthropologist/paleontologist of yesteryear who traveled the world and his own backyard collecting some very nice artifacts, rock samples and dinosaur tracks and bones. His goal was to share them with whoever stopped by his cave and his grandchildren have done a nice job keeping his dream alive at a fair price. I read some of the other reviews and saw where some people have made fun of the displays. Don’t let these folks dissuade you. There are some Native American spear tips and knives alone that are very rare and unique that I would have paid the entree fee to see by themselves. It’s not Kartchner Caverns, but it is a really cool cave that displays an absolutely fantastic little piece of Americana in the southwest.

Adonis Sulit

It’s a nice gift shop and small museum cave set up. a good place stop to rest and look around after driving long drive.

Angelica Guajardo

Short but nice experience

Roy Bowden

Stopped by there out of curiosity, the admission was $5, the young Guy who greeted me was very polite, personable , and knowledgeable about the history of the Cave, I found it to be very interesting, only wished that I could have stayed a while longer, well with a visit.
