Warman Hall

Well designed museum. Extensive history display on exploration of the river. Large gift shop. Outdoor restrooms.

Robert Little

Very nice museum. The 20 minute movie was the highlight for me. That movie won best picture award in Houston's film festival. Done with live River shots and CGI "ghosts" it explains the fear factor of not knowing where the next rapids or waterfall ahead. Gift store has interesting inventory. From green Green River T-shirts to ukeleles.

John Wesley Powell is a ancestor of mine. I believe on my fathers side of family. His middle name is Westley also..

The movie alone was worth the $6 admission price for adults (only $1 for kids 5-15!). We are glad we stopped in. We found all the staff welcoming.

It was a nice and short stop for us in Green River. We learned much about John Wesley Powell's expeditions and the development of the region. The story was quite different from that of the East Coast. We were the only group while we were there. We paid the full price for the admission fee and only stayed for about 50 mins. I wish that the curators could be more informative about the exhibits. The education and programs manager seemed uninterested in interacting with visitors. This was a slight disappointment to me.

Kenneth Morgel

Connie Hatch

Lots of great books

Judy Scharf

Nice spot to stop and stretch your legs when on a long trip. Check the flood height ramps beside the river.

Interesting museum and a peaceful setting next to the Green river

Chelsea Gillespie

This place is old and hasn't been updated in years. I wouldn't say there is a main attraction for the museum either. The pricing is fair, the bathrooms are outside and awful, the gift shop is a bit tacky.

Hope Glenn

If you're interested in the indigenous history of Eastern Utah or in the river runners who continue to shape the outdoor culture of the area today, you will love this desert gem.

Kristine Sorensen

Very nice information about history

Bobby Painter

The place is so run down. The bathrooms are hideous, the grounds are unkempt, and the staff seem unknowledgeable.

Nels Rasmussen

There were some very interesting things at the museum but the film kiosks were set at such a low volume you couldn't hear them. The museum staff didn't seem very enthused or willing to share information. Kind of disappointing.

Paul Curtis

Great place to visit

Dean Campbell

Really great little museum that covers not only Powell's life and river journeys but also provides context and history of the rivers themselves. Totally exceeded my expectations... highly recommended.

Zach Evans

Very informative museum about the area! Wish I would have had more time to stay.

Barry Horsley

Emily Zinn

I really wasn't expecting a museum of this quality in Green River, but it's intelligent, informative, elegantly designed and well kept up. The talking animatronic characters are charmingly cheesy but the content is great. The artifacts and reproductions are great and the topic interests me a lot.

CJ Bowie

Excellent place and well informed staff.

My kids really loved it (4 & 6) and the staff were very nice. It is very small though so don't expect to spend hours there.

Steve Rutherford

Informative

Caylon Vielehr

Love this museum. The entrance donation fee is under ten dollars, there is a great exhibit hall with loads of information, pictures, artifacts, and real boats used by the earliest explorers. They have a theatre featuring a film about the incredible journey of Powell and his compatriots into the great unknown, in addition to a gallery with revolving shows and a cool shop hosting gifts, memorabilia, and southwestern art and jewelry. Stop by on your way to booking a trip down the river for yourself with Holiday River Expeditions next door.

Manuel Ortiz

Nice shop and museum.

Christopher Bliss

Cool stuff.

Breda Lund

Analynne Pengson

The museum was great. I enjoyed the history and the content of the video showed in their theater. The town is small and quaint but the people are friendly. You would enjoy your visit since you will learn the adventure that John Powell took and his discovery of the Grand Canyon. The museum helped in educating me about the history of the rivers in the area and especially about Powell.

If you plan on spending some time on the Green or the Colorado rivers then you need to stop by this museum! It was a great experience for me and my wife. Really cool to watch the documentary about Powell's explorations, see how things were done back in his time and learn how truly insane it was to be the first explorer to map out this region. Really friendly folks who run this place and there are alot of interactive exhibits for kids and grown-ups alike!

Interesting museum covering the history of river exploration on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The stories of John Wesley Powell's two trips on the Colorado come alive in their exhibits and in their 20 minute film. The gift shop offers books and other elements of interest into the American Southwest.

Great option for geologists if it’s too rainy to be outdoors. Bigger than expected, nicely kept up, and the video is really good. Surprise dinosaurs on the lower level.

Very interesting museum. Great introductory movie. Wonderful Glen Canyon historical trip exhibit and wonderful historical wooden boat exhibit on lower level.

Useless. Don’t stop there for information. It a gift shop and the staff are unfamiliar with providing information or providing customer service. Rude.

A nice, small museum that appears to still be under construction in certain parts. True to its name, it focuses primarily on the exploratory voyage of John Wesley Powell, a civil war veteran with a dream of charting the Colorado River past its known path. He took a crew of men and boated downriver, discovering all the way to the Grand Canyon and beyond. The museum covers this journey with a multitude of exhibits as well as a short film that the staff very kindly played for me in a theater upon request. There are some other exhibits detailing historical and geological facts about the surrounding region, and even an intriguing dinosaur section with actual skeletal specimens on display. While I wasn't a big fan of the $6 per adult entry fee, I can understand the need for funds considering it's a small museum in a small town that probably doesn't get a lot of visitors (during the entire hour and a half I was there, I was literally the only guest). All in all, it's worth a visit, especially if you have kids who enjoy learning.

This was an outstanding tribute the an amazing American hero. Worth every penny. Don't miss peeking into the basement room off the main room of displays. One can see some dinosaur skeletal remains and core samples of Utah's rock formations. The gift shop was the perfect ending to an engaging and educational experience.
