REVIEWS OF Brigham Young Winter Home IN Utah

Randall Skinner

Great place to visit in the summer. Docents are very knowledgeable and add to the experience. Easy to find, parking is on street and parking lots around the corner.

Kathlyn Davidson

It was great and the tour guides were very knowledgeable.

Kristine Ayers

An important historical site.

Thor Sigurjonsson

Historic place to visit. Guides are friendly and informative. The little side Office would perhaps have seen Brigham Young and Wilford Woodruff busy with the affairs of the newly dedicated St. George Temple and committing things to writing that had only ever been administered from memory.

Kent Barney

Great historical tour of an original St. George Pioneer home. The missionaries that told the History were knowledgable and helped make the tour interactive.

Rachel Maxwell Kitzmiller

What an amazing historical site! Fantastic tours and great information.

Gail Dieckhaus

Thank you for giving us a great tour & explaining the LDS early years in Sr. George.

Mark Bullick

The Mormon church purchased and repaired the home Brigham Young owned for about 5 years in St George. They have a short tour of the house and grounds. The museum is a good picture of what life was like in southern Utah 150 years ago

Gavin Andrus

This is a great place to learn more about the Mormon church, Brigham Young and the history of St. George. It is great to learn just how resourceful Brigham Young was!

Scott Peterson

Nice bit of history. Interesting to see the pioneering way of living.

Bonnie Chamberlain

This is a historic home where are the second prophet of the restored Gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lived during his visits here to St George.

Kim Dahl

This is a very interesting tour and learning experience about Brigham Young and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the late 19th century after St. George was settled by early pioneers. The tour is less than 30 minutes and well worth it to learn about the history and sacrifices of early pioneers and the latter part of Brigham Young's life.

Sharon Lopez

The house is so amazing, the men and women who give the tour are so gifted and actually try and give everyone a genuine experience. There is such a special feeling when you are on the property. The house is just beautiful and special. This is definitely a trip that was worth it.

Bobby Dove

Was really an interesting tour.

DD H

Kinda interesting to see Brigham Young's winter house. FYI: the queue for waiting for the next tour is outside.

Kimberly B

The house is pretty sweet if you're into historical homes like we are. The missionary guides will inadvertently let you know what a pompous jerk B. Young was.

C W

I have to admit I was quite impressed. The tour is in two parts. The first part starts outside the home in the smaller building giving you the background of the area, St. George, and Brigham Young and others as well. Though very short they …

Brian Haskell

Very nice, and well kept pioneer home. Beautiful period furnishings, and a special treat of an original Cottam doll. Very pleasant and knowledgeable senior missionary couple.

Scott Watkins

Great tour. I enjoyed this a lot. Learned many new things about St. George.

T.J. Dick

Amazingly restored. Picturesque. Educational. Uplifting. Great place for family photos too.

Que Mangus

Great tour! The information is really interesting. You get to get a real glimpse into what life was like bake in the late 1800s.

Angel Shining

It was fun to go though and learn about him. Unfortunately once the tour guides found out these people in line were Mormon and back from a stint in China or somewhere they didn't pay much attention to the commoners. My cousin is Mormon so always wanted to know more. I really wish Mormons / latter day saints would pay attention to all people, not be so exclusive.

Kolby Brown

Really fun! The missionaries are really nice and they don't try convert you.

Erin Moulding

Neat local history, but be sure to set aside plenty of time, self-guided tours unavailable.

darin burke

Really cool history stop

Michael & Tera Thomas

Great learning

Kristine Clifford

Very interesting tour, and free! Learn about the pioneers who settled southern Utah, and the crops they grew, their love for culture, and their strong value of family and community.

Katie Isaacson

So interesting. I wanted more time to check things out, but the tour was thorough and quick!

cruisin thru

Loved seeing Brighams home here! My wife and I were in town for a wedding and put it on the list. Great guides started us in the meeting room next to the house and gave the history of it. Then to join a group in the main home where a calmness and reverence was felt. Great way to spend an hour!

Ken Clark

What's not to love about an LDS Church run anything, let alone the former summer home of Brigham Young who has such a significant historical footprint on the city of St George. I love the home and the yard (especially the garden vineyard). The even have restrooms just in case you might need to know. I hope you enjoy!

Franklin West

Important historical building in the West. Very well maintained and the guides were very knowledgeable.

Ann Cowley

I enjoyed touring this. The guides were nice and informative.

Robert McDougal

The tour guides were very friendly and knew what they were talking about, they were also willing to answer everyone's questions.

Rocky Lawter

Really interesting information on the history of the LDS church and St George. We had a lot of fun.

RaeLe Carlson

The missionary couple that was doing the tours were two of the most happiest and coolest missionaries I have ever met! This home is a cool part of history and old workmanship. It's a great experience! If you have an extra hour, do go.

Laura Eggert

Very interesting history about Bringham Young. The tour was free and informative. The house had air conditioning.

jack gratrix

Great place to visit and learn facts about Brigham Young, 2nd President, and Proph et of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Glen Greep

A great Historical Site

Karen Nance

Amazing look into an historical figure brought to life by a married couple who provided a free in-depth guided tour through a well-preserved home; well worth your time.

Jerry Larson

Very interesting learning about the history of the area.

Kaylynn Johnsen

The missionary couple who led the tour were well informed and answered all our questions.

Ken .DeWalt

Nice if you are Mormon or history buff

Tiffany Thornock

Great history of the settling of St George! Love this old home and you must walk around the yard and see all the fruit trees

Christel Stojanovic

The house was interesting. A lot smaller than I thought it would be. The tour was short and very basic information was shared. It was nice that I wasn't asked if I was a member of the the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. I am, but I liked that the missionaries didn't ask because it shouldn't matter who visits. All are welcome.

Benjamin Porter

Really cool. My family really enjoyed this, and the tour is free! Great way to spend time with family and see an interesting party of history. The tour guides are Mormon missionaries but there was no pushiness at all. you can tell they enjoy what they do.

Adrienne Hoxie

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour!

Autumn Olson

Great tour guides an so much history. Loved it!

Keith Wyman

Great local history and informative tour.

Rhonda McIntosh

Well worth a visit.

Matthew LaCombe

Very informative and uplifting. The tour was about a half hour for my group of six. As large as the home is, the first two bedrooms felt small and made some in my group feel claustrophobic. Many original art and furniture pieces. We learned some about the history of St. George and the colonization of other great cities.

Emily Starobin

My mom and I visited nearby for an ultra-race. It was a gem! The tour was interesting and informative. It gave us a great perspective of the unique town of St. George. However, I was not expecting to be slightly accidentally prosthelytized by the tour guides who were a devout Mormon Couple. They gave tours as part of their mission for their faith. That being said, my mom and I found it amusing and fun to learn about the Mormon faith and meet these very religious and kind people.

J Mullis

Interesting history, as told by friendly missionary tour guides. Admission is free.

Arnel Macahilas

The house

More Ucme

Awesome place with a lot of interesting history.

Neal Bergstrom

Such an interesting place!

Ola Dee Griffin

Great place to learn of early pioneer history of Utah history.

John Penland

What a wonderful tour. I gained a lot of knowledge about a Great man and his passion. Although I am not religious, I still came away with some history and insight of Brigham Young and the Latter day saints. What I really did appreciate though is that I was welcomed in and given this tour and got to learn about Brigham and religion and soul saving was not cramed down my throat. I was able to enjoy the story and passion of this man and not be made to feel that I was not worthy to stand in his home because I was not Mormon. Listen to me, I do not care if you are Mormon or not, religious or not if you are in St. George please stop by and take the tour.

Steven Sallee

Brilliant look at early life in st George

Sue Reber

A lesson in history of the early settlers in Utah's Dixie.

Christian Lenhart

Well preserved pioneer house of Brigham Young. The tour takes you through every room. Very cool history but not so long that kids get bored.

Mike Erickson

Amazing historic plot, definite must see for those who love history!

Brett

Great fun place. Been here a few times. I always learn something new when I come. Such a spiritual feeling I get when I walk through. The tours you can sometimes have a lot of people or hardly any, just depends when you go. A lot of great little facts/stories to learn about. The missionaries are awesome. A great fun family activity to do.

Brent Taft

Amazing history! Lots of original items. All the wood in the house is pine, but painted to look like various hardwood and even stone!

Jacob Colvin

Amazing place.

Thaddaeus Brodrick

This winter home was very homey. I felt like I could easily use this as my future winter home. If ever the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints decides to sell, I'm interested.

Munch Productions

Very interesting and so much to look at!

Missy S

Beautiful home! Such a neat place to visit and learn about the history of Btigham Young and St. George.

James Goodwin

Beautiful home, very well maintained. Makes one wonder what it must have been like to live there in the time of Brigham Young.

Ruth A Mayer

This was an interesting home refurbished in the period style with a few of the actual furnishings of Brigham Young. The history was well presented by a set of senior missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who added personal tidbits of personal information regarding the era represented. Although it was hot outside, air conditioning and fans kept it comfortable. There are 2 long steep stairways during the tour and public restrooms in a separate building out back.

Debbie Fancher

Fun, active place. Good food and great service.

Jeremiah Southworth

A wonderful place to visit to learn about some of the early history of Utah and the early American west. The tour guides are always friendly and excited to answer any questions you have and even stop to have some nice conversation. Definetly a stop worth making if you are in the area.

Relaxing Flowers And More

Great tour guides. Learn a lot about Brigham Young. Still has a few original things.

Hayden Turner

Beautiful place to visit, with everything as historically accurate as possible. The missionaries there did an amazing job with the tour! They are very engaging and knowledgeable. Great place to learn the interesting history of St. George.

Tory Janssen

Not LDS, but it is really cool to visit anyways! Lots of history and its amazing to walk through his home as if you just stepped back in time. Really recommend if you are passing through and want to know more of the history and love history. The tour guides we're very nice. Parking is kind of a pain, but that's my only complaint.

Wendy Francom

Fun historical site to visit. Good tour guides and nice restrooms.

Shanna Foote

This is an awesome St George historic house. It's a really neat walk through and a glimpse into how life use to be. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because it's not very kid-friendly and I tried bringing my three little kids and they didn't do very well, I was worried they would break something

Addison Kanoelani

I honestly didn’t want a tour but I’m glad I did it. There were tons of awesome little facts you would just never know without going on it. Like why St George is called St George. And they talk about all the things that are original to the house. I really loved it. If you like historical things you’ll love this place. The house is beautiful and they did a great job restoring it. And the tour guides/missionaries were really sweet and knowledgeable. And after the tour we just hung around and took pictures. The tour was only about 30 minutes from start to finish.

Heather Lane

Nice tour that shows the a glimpse into the past.

Rance B

You have to visit Brigham Young's St George at least once if you've been to St George. Interesting history and friendly people.

Eric Corsi

Interesting historical building. Friendly people running the tours.

Michael Bowling

Very interesting

Jeff Gorton

Fun walking through the home.

S. M. Johnson

Even though I'm not a member of the Mormon church the history, architecture, and workmanship of the house is well worth the tour. So neat and interesting.

Michelle L. Chatwin

This was a really interesting tour of a very historically significant place. There are 2 separate buildings and a yard with one original tree. Most of the furnishings in the house are not original, but a few of them are. The tour guide pointed out the original items and have some history about them and the people who lived there. The stairs inside are very steep, so if you have a disability, there's a good chance you won't be able to go upstairs.

Kami Kelley

So beautiful to see

Nancy Carlton

Wonderfully preserved historic home which is interesting to visit. Tour guides nice and informative from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Shelly Coray

Great experience. Knowledgeable tour guides and a beautiful home and grounds.

Aaron Peavler

This is a fantastic place. If you're visiting St George it is definitely a must-see. The grounds are beautiful and the building is very well taken care of too. While you're in the area make sure to check out the Tabernacle downtown.

Ashley Robert

This was a uplifting and educational experience! This is the Winter home of Brigham Young and you can come here to enjoy a free tour of the house and learn more about it and the family that lived here. It was a beautiful home that is very well kept and true to the time. Kind chruch missionaries guided us through the home and they gave us wonderful information and uplifting thoughts. I really enjoyed our time in this beautiful home. Additionally the house is kept cool and so it is a good place to go if you need a break from the heat. And there are bathrooms there as well.

Colton Bradshaw

Great experience going through and learning more about Brigham Young. The two guides assigned to the house were a very knowledgeable couple and very kind and helpful. The are some steep historical steps for those who have trouble walking. Those who enjoy wood work well love the house as there are lots of amazing details in the house. Really cool paintings can also be found in the house. Many Questions can be answered by the guides about Brigham Young and the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Quick tour and it is very enjoyable.

Natalie Kamla

Wonderful tour...kind friendly people

S Wynn

We thought this was fun and interesting. Mormon Missionaries operate and conduct the tours. Very friendly, quite entertaining, and not at all preachy.

Trevor Lee

Pleasant people giving the tour. If you are interested in early pioneer history and how some people lived during these times it was interesting.

M Malone

You can learn some really interesting history when visiting. My father and I visited, and although we are not of this religion it was worth the effort of visiting. In the house I found that the wooden fireplaces painted to look like marble we're remarkable. Also, the plates that contained a reservoir for hot water to keep the food warm as well as the beds having a mobile rod at the footboard, around which one could wind the bed cover we're both brilliant! The greenery, gardens and trees were also lovely.

Lindy Taylor

Very nice tour. Fascinating furniture and tour guides very knowledgeable.

Theresa & Ernesto Castanon

This place was pretty neat. It's all run by volunteers who explain how Brigham Young and his wife lived in that day. We had a tour of the house and walked the garden. It was all beautiful.

Hannah Brown

Tour guides were great!

Mari Cross

The charming home of Brigham Young was a nice sight to see. Luckily for us they added A/C so we would be able to enjoy looking over the house from the 1800s without suffocating in the Utah heat. It was nice to learn what kind of furniture and house layout they used back then. And it was also fun to learn more about one of the Prophets in the Latter days (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints).

Josh Jorgensen

Awesome historical tour, love the time period and walking through history.

tom benson

The tour of Brigham Young winter home in St George was a enjoyable experience . The history told to us helped to understand better what the pioneers went through. The outside areas were throwback to the late 1800

Kathleen Penne

My granddaughter and I wanted to see this historical house. Because we were not Mormons , we felt it would not be religious based on the reviews. Wrong. We were told Brigham Young was a second Moses, the starting point was a ‘sacred building’ and the importance Brigham Young. The lady was asked why separate bedrooms. No mention of his many wives only “he must have snored.’ No mention of the mass murder of the Oklahoma wagon train. No history that might tarnish Brigham Young. No discussion on the church organization, just whether Mr. Marriott is an apostle. Not a good tour of a historical home as no mention of furnishings other that his desk. Left a bad impression of the guides abilities as an impartial tour guide.

Jacob Knudson

Had a great time touring Brigham Young's winter home. Lots of facts about the surrounding area that we never knew. The staff was very friendly and it was neat to see where Brigham Young spent his final winters.

Kathryn Teichert

Nice tour with a very knowledgeable guide.

Kim M

Fun short little tour with some interesting church history. The house is beautiful

Allison Blood

Friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, clean facilities

Riley Billings

The missionaries that led the tour were very friendly and knowledgable. Cool place if you're into history.

Rex Jones

It’s like having a small museum, with a bunch of interesting pieces of history explained to you throughout the tour, that doesn’t cost anything! Obviously this is owned, operated by, and about the history of the LDS church. But you don’t have to be a member of the faith to appreciate the history that is shared. The preserved pieces of furniture, building construction, and decorations are simply fascinating, especially to anyone with an appreciation for the arts. A great little stop to add into whatever daily plans you might have.

Ryan Organ

Great tour guides

Kent Hall

Interesting tour. Several antique furniture pieces. But in general, it was just another old house.

Brian Johnson

Loved it, my wife and I toured the house a few years back and this time we took the kids. It was great to learn more. The missionaries were descendents of Brigham Young and had new fun history stories to share. Thank you so much.

Daniel Godoy

Great historical place.

Brandon Call

This was more interesting than I thought it would be. I learned more about the history of St. George and how it relates to Utah than I thought I would. The pine furniture painted to look like hardwoods and even marble was interesting. The piano built in a wagon shape for shipping was cool. The guides are very nice and welcoming.

Alexander C. Williamns

Very interesting tour! Turns out Brigham Young had this home because it was good for his health... I think it's good for anyone's health to spend Winter in St. George...

Debbie King

Delightful tour of this beautiful historical home.

Brandon Squires

Nice but our group was added to two other groups and it was just too big to hear and see everything. Should have broken down group into smaller tours. From what we did see, it was very nice and fun.

Kara Gladwell

It's so fun to go see this amazing building.

Mariah Fishback

It was a great fun spiritual atmosphere.

Enrique Romero

It was fascinating to learn how the pioneers did things and how it relates to history in the area.

Mary Sue Smith

The home is well-preserved, the guides did a wonderful job giving a short interesting history of the area and we're very welcoming and knowledgeable. The air conditioning was very welcome, too since we came in July. Wonderful experience!
