REVIEWS OF The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum IN Texas

Steven Sexton

Stopped here for lunch and to check out the museum. It was a neat experience. Lunch was just ok with a small menu and average quality of food. Prices a little high for the quality but is to be expected at a tourist stop. After lunch we walked through the museum and it was pretty interesting. There are a lot cool animals to see but use caution if you have little ones because our 2 year old was afraid of some of the exhibits.

I loved this place. We did the museum first and some of it was actually funny. We ate at the cafe and I really enjoyed it.

Nissa Sims

The employees are friendly, the food is good and it's a great place for a family to visit.i loved it.❣️

Matthew Mitstifer

A fun and educational museum and restaurant. There's sections on Texas rangers, taxidermy, mutant animals, optical illusions, and more.

John Nitis

Lots of fun. A unique experience with the option to eat and drink at entrance. People had fun putting this place together. A unique, only in San Anton experience.

Daniel Townsend

Great educational museum with numerous sections. I really enjoyed the ranger museum right at the end, complete with a recreation of the Buckhorn itself including saloon doors! Had a locally brewed beer at the bar after with a super friendly bar tender, I highly recommend if you are in the San Antonio area!

janet jacks

Closed earlier than we expected 3:00 in the afternoon but did have some really nice knives

Rachel GA

A bit of a tourist trap. Friendly staff, but bartender definitely not following food safety protocol. Let's just say I was hoping the alcohol in my drink killed any germs on his hands while using non-gloved fingers to squeeze limes in my beer.

Dylan Cox

We had a road trip to San Antonio and this definitely was the biggest surprise of that trip. We had planned to come here anyway but thought it was going to be a 5 to 10 minute visit just to look around and maybe get a drink. We ended up spending 2 hours here. It's way bigger than we thought and had soo much stuff to see and interact with. So much fun! Would definitely recommend it.

Emma A

What a bizarre place to find in the middle of Downtown San Antonio. Basically a taxidermy museum (which I found a little nauseating but I'm trying not to judge history with today's lenses). With everything from Blue jays to African Elephants. It was cheap though, it was clean, it was relatively interesting. You had use of the bar to get a drink to take round with you. There's also a Texas Ranger's Museum right at the end, which felt a bit like an afterthought, but it was interesting. Not a terrible place but definitely not for the faint of heart.

Rob Hemker

Entertaining visit. Ate and then toured the museum. Definitely a lot of animals that had been stuffed along with several pieces of unique artwork...

Steve Daniels

Oh my Gosh! What a burger. Probably best I've i ever had. Very affordable food. Amazing collection if animals and antlers. To do museum it's like $21 counting tax. They have fajitas as well Some appetizers include fried pickles, mushrooms and corn? Cheap desserts too.

jacobandbecky

The kids and I always enjoy going here!!

William Nash

Fun and historical. Toured with a cold beer in hand.

Mark Yates

Part of Texas history. It has a lot of Texas Ranger history. Lots of fun with the PT Barnum section. Lots of big game displays.

Jillian High

Awesome place to take the kids! Ages range from newborn to 9 years old. Everyone found something to enjoy in the museum, it wasn't crowded and we were able to choose the pace. The boys especially liked the sideshow portion. We also are there. Amazing burgers and fries.

Peter Huertas

Met with a friend from my days of working at The Alamo, awesome burger, great place to meet with friends

Shane J

Great place to visit, the museum has a ton of items to see and is worth the time to see it. The staff were also very helpful with answering questions not only about the history of the saloon and museum but also about the area. The Texas Ranger portion of the museum was also neat to see and had a good selection of memorabilia.

Phillip Hay

Loved it. if you are ever in the aera a must do

Ken Cutler

Texas Ranger museum is HUGE. More to see and do than imagined from outside.

Teresa L

Food was decent, but the guy at the bar played on his phone while I tried to get water for my kids. It was rude. The “waiter” doesn’t get drinks for you here so there’s no service, really. The museum part was short, depressing, and way too expensive for what you got to see. Spend your money at Ripley’s instead!

Suzanne C

What the heck is this awesome place?!?!? To be honest, we only drank beer there but the museum is a must-see!

Cathy Schrankel

waste of time and money. If you like taxidermy, furniture made from horns, and family depictions of their relatives who had been Rangers, then you will like this place. This isn't a museum as much as a tourist trap

Daisy Zebarth

Museum on the rangers was cool and interesting. The other parts of the museum I didn't really enjoy. Lots of taxadermy animals which I wasn't into. Seemed overpriced for what it was.

Jennifer Rohe

Lots of fun things to look at. My toddlers likes all of the taxidermy and my parents enjoyed the Texas Ranger portion especially since they just watched Highway Men. If you eat at the restaurant beforehand you can get a discount on admission with your food receipt. They also have a military discount.

Dorothy Murray

This was a great place to visit. The museum is very large and full of information. Amazing facts I never knew. Has a great bar inside and you are greeted by the most friendly cowboy ever.

Raelene Alcala

Great food... the beans are the best ever! The staff is friendly, informative and accommodating. The museum is a MUST see and very worth your time! Some great Texas history!

Thomas Bolinger

First off, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately I ate it all before I thought to show you how good it looked. The museum was a ton of fun and covered lots of cool things. I absolutely recommend you drop by if you're ever in the area!

Gabriella Martinez

There's so much to read and see. It's amazing, I dont recommend for little kids but older kids and adults will surely enjoy.

John Junior

If you're an unaccompanied female, don't expect to get good service here. My wife stood at the bar and watched as several men that showed up after her, got served before her. After that, we had no desire to check out the other attractions that we read about and drew us to this location.

Magnus Hansen

This is worth a visit. Unique collection of trophies and an very interesting collection of items that takes you through the history of rangers in the wild west.

Angie Hall

Museum was really cool. Kids and grown up enjoyed it.

Patrick Farrens

Amazing museum. Good food. Cold beer.

Jill Gibson

We love this place and we always visit while in San Antonio. Wild Bill is the coolest, and the saloon, Hall of Horns and other exhibits are a must see while there.

Paul Korinko

Great atmosphere and the bartender remembered us. It felt like an old time saloon with a great Texas and San Antonio beer selection.

Jesse Robinson

Touted as the nation's first saloon, the Buckhorn has a little bit of something for everyone- if you're not into large game taxidermy, stay on the main level and enjoy the restaurant and Texas Ranger museum. The Buckhorn is within easy walking distance to The Alamo and San Antonio River Walk- so make time to do it all while you're downtown.

David K

Good food very good service. Lots of eye candy on the walls and a museum of the Texas Rangers to boot. A must stop if you are in the area.

Mike B

Enjoyed the Texas Rangers museum most, and a beer at the bar

Alyza Perez

Awesome time with my dad (history buff) and brother! Absolutely worth the price $20/person though I advise using their website coupon! The unassuming entrance to the museum area conceals tons and tons of rooms, historical re-creations, documents and so on! I loved that they let you take a drink in with you because it creates a much more "at your own" pace while sipping some local beer. You get both museums for one price and the information and artifacts are just astonishing! We spent about two hours just on the museum alone, the had some good burgers and sandwiches right in the saloon. A must see if your in San Antonio, just don't be squeamish about taxidermy!

Randy Taylor

Good saloon good museum very excited to check this place out

Eric Duck

Great history about Texas and the saloon. The Texas Rangers were also a part of the history.

Martha Waldie

Love the atmosphere and history. Great margaritas to drink while walking around

Melaida Corpuz

We were here July 2014. Took my son and he had a great time. Was kinda weird to see all the taxidermy heads on the wall in the saloon. That was overload, but we're in Texas!

Jess Meaders

We love this place. This time we just came to eat at their diner (which was pretty good, especially the price), but we would highly recommend going on the tour. It is about $20 per person, but if you love animals, hunting, the outdoors, or just amazing taxidermy, you will not be disappointed!

Lisa Barajas

Excellent food and unique surroundings. Very nice servers and reasonable prices!

charles shaffer sr

Have to see for yourself food good so much to look at too

Chris Campana

Fun place a must stop in SA for a break from the river walk ! Good food good drink!

Chris Balchen

This has to be one of the coolest saloons I've ever been too. You can feel the history there and imagine yourself back in the 1800's. Go and get a Frosty beer from the tap. you won't regret it.

Gio P

The gift shop was nice, if you are looking for “Typical” things associated with Texas. They have Sheriff Badges or Bullet Keychains for $6 and lots of trinkets.

Lee Fisher

Very interesting look at a little known part of American history, also it’s at a bar!!

Angie Zavala

Beautiful atmosphere, absolutely loved the old school games they had & the mirrors.

Heather Nakamura

Great atmosphere, food and drinks.

blitz08

Had awesome things to buy

KiLog

My wife and I suprisingly had a really good time. Walking through a Taxidermy Museum with alcohol. Why can't all museums do this? Only reason for four stars is it's a bit too expensive.

Louise Archambeau

So neat. They have gotten so they charge for everything. Thought we were going to be charged for the air. Loved it. Did not go to the museum upstairs but enjoyed eating in the Saloon. I may be a little hard on them because I lived down there in the early 1950's and it was a simpler time. I know they would not be there now without money to pay for the upkeep. Please go for yourself and for your children and grandchildren.

Paul Ferguson

I cannot believe they make you pay for this "museum". Each special area had two or three rooms of junk to look at. So many fake and imitation items with made up stories it should be called a fantasy land and not museum. Yes, the saloon is large and old. The service was poor and food fit for a cafateria. By far the worst stop suggested by the tour companies. Money would have been better spent on the many homeless people hanging around.

Sheila Love

Good food. Reasonably priced. Order at the counter and they bring it out to ya. Bartender was great. Interesting taxidermy EVERYWHERE. Don't miss the Texas Ranger Museum...cool stuff. Crazy animals and fish and attractions.

Traci Kautz

Spent probably two hours going through the Museum's at least they were both awesome

Hugh Bredbenner

Gift shop was good but decor was awesome.

Joe Daniel

Wonderful steak lunch. Spent hours in the Texas Ranger Museum. Definitely visit again to see all we missed the first time there. Brain Overload from all the historical knowledge you gain from one visit.

Caleb Bolthouse

Nice exhibits. Fun atmosphere. $3 root beer in a plastic cup.

Ernesto Ramirez

Nice and interesting restaurant. Mainly hamburgers and salads. Extensive selection of beers. It has a museum which you pay extra. Lots of horns from all kinds of animals.

Cyndee Arruda

Went for breakfast, very limited choices and left most of it on the plate. I'd skip the pancakes

Jason Brown

You can't visit downtown San Antonio without going to the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum! Had a great time with my wife there learning all about the history and the animals. A must see!

Tiffany Foster

Great food and the museum was excellent in every way! You can easily spend hours in the museum if you wanted to. Great history lessons & very cool\ unique animals. I could picture myself being back in the gun toting wild west. Loved it!

Lindsay Guild

This place was a lot of fun! Cheaper than the Ripley's Museum and a lot of interesting animals to see plus 10% off food with a ticket purchase. Most of the staff were friendly, the greeter was really welcoming but the cashier at the food counter seemed like she was ready to go home. The food was tasty but if you are ordering tap water you've gotta get it from the bar for some reason. A historical spot and a fun place to visit.

Angela

Better for adults then little kids. LOTS OF INTERESTING INFORMATION.

Alexis Sikma

Cute little place to stop in! Did not get to experience the museum but from looking in the gift shop and interacting with employees, it should definitely be on the list.

Joshua Swanson

Food was great. Prices are pretty normal for the area. The museum and safari were also a fun walk through. Would definitely come back again.

Kathleen Toudouze

This Museum is so much fun! All the displays take you back to simpler times. I’ve always loved it here! Went a lot when I was little. Every time guests from out of town, we would go there. Course, that was when it was like $8. I still would like to visit & see the changes made! Great tourist attraction Highly recommended

Brittney Collins

Such a unique and awesome place. Thousands of antlers outside the entrance and a huge elk head too (head was metal I believe but the antlers are real!) We got several neat shirts with deer and antlers on them (can you tell we love antlers?) The kids found awesome carved gemstone necklaces too that were not expensive at all! Will have to bring the hubby here next time we come!

Koto Qabal

Very expensive tour for not much to see. A waste of a few hours. The food was pretty good at least

N Machunze

Loved the museum. You could spend hours there. So much to see. The bartender is great and informative. Great beer and other drinks. A must see!!

Gloria McManus

Great exhibits! we felt we got our money's worth. Fun place. Reasonably priced and good tasting food and drinks. Thank you!

Hannah

Three stars for the food and five for the museum. Food: The food was fine. I ordered the Buckhorn burger and it was extremely hard to eat and just ok, even though it was essentially all the toppings I get on a burger anywhere. One of the people in my group got no lettuce, tomato or pickles on his burger. All the employees were extremely friendly though and the interior was very cool with the huge room full of taxidermy. Museum: really cool and better than I thought it would be. I almost decided against going through but I'm glad I did. Lots of cool taxidermy like deformed antlers on deer and a huge section dedicated to fish taxidermy. There's a little makeshift town in the museum that's really cute and a fun time waster and a section dedicated to the circus sideshow. Lots of penny machines and old love testers littered throughout the museum, so bring change if you're into that (I am).

Rafael Sanchez

First off the burger was amazing and so delicious and the museum was really neat. I just randomly stumbled upon it while walking around downtown. Will definitely be back one day.

justin l

Great place. Nice and cool. Clean. Good people manning the stations there.

Trevor Black

Staff greeted us with the full brochure of everything we needed to know about the restaurant, gift shop, and museum. The experience is great with friends! Had a blast just walking past all of the oddities and history. Definitely a place to check out!

clint conrad

Had a lot of history about Texas Rangers, but had a flipside that reminded me of Ripleys believe it or not. A little cheesy to say the least. You can take your favorite bar beverages through the tour which is nice. Tickets were a high at almost $22. Definitely go if you can snag some passes or discounted tickets.

Robbie Martin

If you are a big fan of taxidermy check it out. If not, enjoy the a/c and a pint of draft beer. A few arcade games for kiddos.

Juan Lima

Best old westerner themed Museum and Saloon all in one place! Plenty of stuffed animals to satisfy your appetite. Even the customer service rep selling us tickets had the older Western Cowboy look similar to Clint Eastwood when he played the spaghetti Western movies. A must stop while you are in San Antonio. You wouldn't know it's in the heart of the city until you realize the city was build around the Buckhorn Saloon!

Michael Neubauer

Tourist attraction! If the entry fee to the museum doesn't put you off, definitely an interesting place.

Carlos Morote

This place is great, you have not only animals to see but history too and have all the time you want to take pictures. Also you have a restaurant and bar at the first.

Elaina Gonzalez

Great appetizers! Restaurant was very cool to look around. The museum pricing was a little steep for a hall of photos and memorabilia. Definitely order the Cowboy Bites!

Aaron Stewart

Definitely a must-see if you are in San Antonio! It is a Saloon & Museum. It features a museum of an enormous amount of mounted animals! They guy who gives you the tickets for the museum is dressed as Wild Bill Hickock himself. Every different type of deer, moose, elk, etc. that you could think of! Fun for kids who are interested in animals. The bar is big with animal heads mounted above it. The food is pretty good, and the front porch has a TON of deer antlers. They have chandeliers made out of antlers. Pretty cool place.

Christy Garton

I LOVED this place. The staff is awesome and so much to do!

Barnabas Kneill

This was a great buy. Two museums in one.Buckhorn Museum--The kids (2 and 5 yrs) and adults loved seeing the wide variety of taxidermy land and sea animals. It was so fun to watch their eyes get big when they looked eye to eye with a bear. It was like an indoor zoo/aquarium! (Wonderful escape from the Texas heat!!) It even had a section of magic and slanted floors. Very unexpected. (We didn't eat at the Saloon so I can't comment on the food or drinks.)Texas Ranger Museum--The kids walked through it rather quickly, looking at all items, but were uninterested in reading all the details. My husband loved it and was able to spend the time reading about the items. I stayed with the kids and we moved on to the gift shop. I would have loved to read the details of the guns and pictures, but the kids didn't allow for that.

larry dinnen

Outstanding great food , service , & atmosphere . Check out the history of all the animal heads .

Sarah Woodbyrne

This is absolutely my favorite thing that we did in San Antonio I think, if you're on the fence about whether their little museum is worth the $15? It 100% is. It's chock full of fun photo opportunities, incredible taxidermy specimens, and very cool historic pieces. We didn't stop in the saloon (this trip) however we're planning on going back this summer. The ambiance is very authentic, and everyone had a great time.

Mandy Kirby

The museum is very pricey for what it is. The saloon is a fun atmosphere but food is generic

David Wilson

Little bit pricey but loved the concept of walking around the wild and unique exhibits with a beer in your hand.

Jon Tenca

This is an incredible place that I just happened to stumble upon. I walked in thinking I'd walk through the museum in 30 minutes and ended up taking almost three hours! A ton of fun with a lot of cool facts and some things you may have never seen before. Highly recommend. Went back and had lunch the next day and was very good.

jesper

Really cool museum and good food. A lot to see, but a bit expensive.

Nathan York

This place is not worth it at all. Firstly, the museum is extremely overpriced and even the best exhibits are just bad illusions. Then is particularly bad. I ordered the buckhorn burger and the bun was wet and soaked to the point of it falling apart and the appetizer was not fried all the way. This place is a tourist trap. Don't waste your money or time.

Sissy Brandon

Love this place. Best bloody Mary’s around. Food is really good too. All kinds of cool stuff to see upstairs.

Randy Lyscik

Enjoyed the Buckhorn stuffed animals. And the attached Texas Rangers museum was very interesting. I like looking at old artifacts and items and the various firearms on exhibit were fascinating.

ann busker

I did not go in. I talked to door staff while doing a scavenger hunt. He was friendly and amused with us. Said he you people all the time asking about weird things. Definitely going back to eat!

Mike Joslyn

Awesome place and we like the museum tour as well. Very unique one time visit.

Abia Hutto

So, this is certainly a major Texas style tourist trap but it's fun to go to and take your friends that are visiting San Antonio. The first floor contains a good cafe restaurant and a gift shop. The museum is on the second floor. The food was good and we had fun eating in an old fashioned saloon with heads of animals hung all over the walls. It is definitely a site to see and yes they are all real. This place is a Mecca for taxidermy where will find championship trophies and strange animals. The gift shop is very touristy and lots of items for the kids. The museum is really cool and see a bunch of Wild West artifacts and more unique taxidermy items.

Jim Corpora

Lots of really Awesome things to see! Didn't get to stay as long as I would have liked to, had to go meet up with some friends. Lots of really interesting history about the Texas Rangers. Give yourself a couple hours to really experience the whole place. Gift shop is nice to!

f150 man

What a great place if you go there plan on spending several hours by the time you eat drink tour the museum and see everything there is to see... Justin behind the bar was a great guy made you feel right at home and was fluent in the history of the bar which honestly interested us in the rest of the museum after hearing him talk... we probably would have just ate and moved on but we wound up spending quite a bit of time there

Noah Schwartz

The saloon is a great place to grab a beer. It has an intentionally hokey, old west ambiance and lots of old fashioned carnival games. Museum was lots of fun, though it would have been nice to have more explanation in the Texas Rangers exhibit. Lots of interesting artifacts and individual stories, but needed a central narrative to tie it together. I did appreciate them educating the public on the conservation efforts of hunters.

Chris Farmer

Gotta meet Wild Bill.Visit the museum, and get UA a cocktail.and the gift shop was nice.

Neal Bouldin

I used to go to the Lone Star Brewery, who had the Hall of Horns. So it was good to go back. I wonder if John Stein still owns most of the heads.

Molly Moffat

Their mango cheromoya margarita was one of the best drinks I've had in a long time. I had to have a second, because it was so good!

Gerardo Olivas

Interesting history Texas Rangers and Museum includes P. T. Barnes. Among others not big exhibits, but interesting.

LACEY ANN PETERSON

There aren't many places where you can soak up Texas history as you buy a shirt and sit down to enjoy a meal. The staff were friendly, helpful, and informative. The atmosphere was inviting and upbeat, and the food was delish. Loads of unique and intriguing things to see. 100% recommend

Billie Rubalcaba

Such a cool place this is definently a must see in San Antonio.

michael szombatfalvy

Tours where great. Bartender Josh needs to work on customer skills.

Dale Richards

Very impressive collection of history and memorabilia. Also lots of mounted (stuffed?) animals from around the world not just native Texan species. Learned a lot about the Texas Rangers origins and early years. Museum is definitely worth the price. Went to the bar after your and had a bloody mary, it was spicy and quite delicious! All in all a great way to learn about the earliest years of Texas with a bar attached!

dee kay

We thought la villita was smaller than promoted. The buckhorn is BIGGER than promoted. Well worth the time. Very well done. (disappointed that chuck Norris didn't make it into the Texas ranger museum :-)

Edward Parsons

There are more animal heads in this place than one could ever imagine. Great place to get a taste of Texas.

Stephanie Tyler

Definitely the weirdest museum I've ever been too. But interesting and very interactive good for kids.

Brad Jackson

You don't go to tourist traps like the Buckhorn for great food, you go for the atmosphere. And it has atmosphere all over the walls, if we define atmosphere as taxidermy and lots and lots of deer and antelope horns. The food is not bad, but it is kind of mediocre. The fries and catfish are straight out of the frozen section of food distributor Ben E. Keith. The burger was ok, nothing special but good enough. The chicken fajita salad was decent, the lettuce was crispy and not rusty. It's a nice touristy place to visit, the museum isn't exactly a real museum but it has some fun stuff that's nifty to see, and if you're into taxidermy then this place has you covered. Because dang... they've got a lot of dead animals on the walls. I don't think I've seen a place with more taxidermy per square foot before in my life. My son said it was kind of creepy having his food stare down at him from the wall, and I was going to say that there weren't any cow heads but i was wrong. There is one. It's a bit cheesy, but fun. Don't expect too much from the food, but it's perfectly acceptable just nothing inspiring. And if you like antlers then this place was built specifically with you in mind.

Stuart A

Definitely a little random, still fun to visit!

Garry Cahill

Fantastic place. Had the biggest, coldest nicest bock beer ever at the bar before going through the weirdest, most interesting museum in Texas. The 'trophies' are mind boggling.

nadine braunfeld

The Buckhorn Saloon was promoted & endorsed quite heavily from our bus tour host who apparently eats and drinks here for free. Place is filled with dead animals that stare at you whule you eat. We found the huge taxidermy collection creepy and disturbing. Killing animals just to hang their heads on a wall is just Wrong! Would much rather see a painting, photo or drawing of exotic or donestic animals. Huntimg for food is acceptable; hunting for sport is unethical & unacceptable. It has led to decimations of species, endangering and extinction. Food was ok. ☆☆

Brian Highbarger

A little pricy but really enjoyed it service Is GREAT make the time to go
