Average Rating:

DESCRIPTION

We've got all the feddbacks of real people who used the products of The Alamo (Museum) in the state of Texas.

At this moment the business gets a score of 4.6 stars out of 5 and the rating has been calculated on 34470 reviews.

As you can see the average of ratings is almost the top, and it is based on a high number of opinions, so we may think that the assessment is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well, is that it works.

As you know, we do not usually bother to write evaluations when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...

REVIEWS OF The Alamo IN Texas

Interesting and still living history...smaller than one thinks it will be. And seems even smaller with the city that grew around it. But worth the look. And free to wander about in...pay if you would like the guide and stories.

Fahad Ansari

Amazing, breathtaking historical experience! The weather was amazing too. The entire town felt like a walk down the olden days with a touch of the Church of Alamo architecture everywhere!

ItsJess

This place is breathtaking! It’s such a beautiful place to learn about the history that took place. We loved every moment here.

Nancy Sanchez

Great place to visit to learn some history of Texas. I like the updates that have been made. Great family vacation place.

what could i possibly say about this awesome, historical site that hasn't been said 50,000,000 times already. Its truly hollowed ground and stands as a true bastion to the bravery and determination of those who defended those walls.

Andrew Gonsolin

Interesting self guided tour of a historical landmark or an informative walk back in time with the guided version, for a fee of course. Well kept as conservation is a priority for the structure. Great way to spend an hour or two.

Derrick Lin

Great historic site. It's free to walk inside. If you are interesting in history, take a Alamo story tour.

Ashley Honeycutt

Beautiful and interesting part of US and Texas history. It's free to visit unless you want a guided tour. This was the most crowded part of my trip but not bad at all.

Beverly Wakefield - Earthwyz

I loved walking around here. It is well kept, very informative and quite amazing. Gift store has some really cool things but they are also very pricy.

Howard Fong

Nice bit of Texas history. Hey! Free admission. Nice gift shop. Located downtown near many restaurants and shops and the 'Riverwalk'

Libby Hayes

Very nice free historical attraction. Nice museum portion with lots of artifacts and educational opportunities. The gardens surrounding the buildings were stunning, the incredibly large trees were beautiful and impressive, I love that they have made keeping them there a priority as well as stabilizing all of the large limbs, etc.

nodonny8

Awesome. The tours Lines were a bit long. I had a good time

Whale Gamez

The come so can Antonio at least twice a year and each time the Alamo seems to get nicer and nicer. I highly recommend coming here to learn about some of this great cities history

Ericka Gonzalez

We did a self guided tour and walked for about an hour. We watched the video playing the concessions stands and we really enjoyed it. Super proud of our Texas history. No pictures inside! They have reenactments where you can ask questions. That was super fun and interesting for the kids. Everyone working there was super nice.

Megan Thayer

First off, its FREE! Secondly, its nestled right in the middle of the city so it's easily accessible. It was a cool experience to learn about something new. I maybe spent 45 minutes there. You could easily spend longer. They had some interactive things geared more towards kids I didnt partake in.

Chrisoulla Rakowski

Well kept and nice place for history. Self tour is free and guides are around everywhere to answer your questions. Very helpful.

Jennifer H

As a native Texan, it is always moving to see the history of our state. The Alamo physically isn't terribly impressive: stone walls and floors. I enjoyed reading the names of the soldiers and reading the plaques with the historcal events.

Scott L

This was on my bucket list. I was really surprised on how touristy it was though. I was happy to see some younger people engaging with our countries history!!

Nick Michael

The Alamo was a great piece of the American history and in the books is depicted and appreciated that way. My experience at The Alamo was not how I expected it to be. Unless you're willing to spend all of your money, you can't find anything of value to learn from or get out of going here. In other words, it's basically a tourist trap that can be easily avoided.

Dr. Joe

Free to enter but you may need to hunt for parking. Well maintained and they have explanatory signs wherever needed. The old fort/church was being repaired, but it didn’t really affect the tour. The grounds are fabulous. The musket demonstration is eye and ear-opening. The museum has easily 4 hrs worth of items on display all with great explanations. Highly recommend. Walking distance from the river walk.

Debbi Lynch

The most famous building in Texas has been slowly deteriorating - the limestone is dissolving. The preservation process is still ongoing. Beautiful landscaping and detailed informational signage all around. Hours could be spent in reading it all. The history of this little mission is extensive.

Brad Provencher

Very cool part of history, but fairly light on the information and details about its history. Focuses more on the big names that came to stand by Texas, which isn't a knock on the site, the audio tour just had a lot of fluff and filler information added to it.

Allie Robins

Now as you go into San Antonio’s Alamo, you get to enter through a walkway that has a lot of the history of the materials that were used in building the Alamo. It was interesting to see how much of the stone naturally disintegrates in a year. This is such a beautiful historical site I would hate to see it disappear before the next generation gets to understand what it cost to preserve freedom in this country. The grounds are beautiful and the feeling inside the compound is very unique… It is easy to be reminded that men gave their lives here.

Daisy Zebarth

Cool historic place they are preserving. You can go look around yourself for free. We went on a Sunday and got there shortly after opening and glad we did because when we we're leaving there was a line to get in!

josh douglas

This was a amazing stop for the family and I.. if you love history and are in the area I highly recommend stopping here. Plus the surrounding city is beautiful. Takes about 2 hours to walk through and read everything. Very interesting piece of Americana here. And it's free? Wow if I could give 10 stars I would.

Brett Davies

It’s the ALAMO. Been here twice. History is just so cool. Remember, in the Alamo Exhibit, timeline starts on the left. During my recent visit, Oct 5, 2019, lots of construction equipment was stored/tucked away in places, which was a little disappointing. However once I had seen the sign explaining is was for surveyors doing preservation work/research it became absolutely excusable. It’s a nice place to spend a couple hours and read about early Texas history.

Vishwas Bhoyar

Well that's one famous place to visit. Not much to do there. But the souvenir's shops around Alamo are good. Some activities for children like Ripley's museum and some fun activities. You should visit Alamo and then go to River Walk for dinner.

Yuliana Sivitskas

Amazing place. People who are working there are very nice and always ready to help and explain. They also have a beautiful cat there that they are taking care of. No pictures inside, but there are many places outside where you can take beautiful shots. One time visit recommended

Roembke Family

The Alamo story is one of my favorite stories! It was exciting to finally come and see the very place these men gave their lives. This is well worth the time to visit. It did not disappoint me! I enjoyed every bit of it!

Alex MacKay

This is a spot that I feel everybody should visit sure to it's historical importance. The grounds at the Alamo are amazing and it's fun to walk around and see it from all angles. However, once you get inside it is somewhat underwhelming. This could partially be due to the fact that it was under repair when I visited, so I'm assuming there are usually artifacts in the room under normal operations... One disappointing thing is that you can't take photos inside the Alamo. This is to respect the people who died there, but I feel like you can take photos and still be reverent/respectful. My guess is some people were acting excited and taking selfies rather than taking photos for memories.

Brad Fashbaugh

Peaceful, serene, calming. Beautiful grounds to walk through. A free self guided tour is all you need, but if you crave history, several tours are offered at affordable rates. Bountiful gift shop with lots of Texas and Alamo treasures. Make sure to visit the river walk while at the Alamo. Go through the Hyatt to reach the actual river walk. Peaceful quiet and relaxing long walk past beautiful scenery and quaint shops and restaurants and pubs.

Ivette Davila-Richards

Beautiful, historical place to visit. Got to see the inside and read up about its history. Was pleasantly surprised. Good to know a renovation is taking place to restore and maintain its character, history and beauty.

Kristina Derosier

Definitely a great series of exhibits and artifacts. Thrilled to see Davy Crockett's rifle as well as a bunch of other amazing pieces. Definitely a must-see if you're in San Antonio. I still find it very interesting that you go from high rises to the Alamo and then high rises again but that's modern city is right!

James Costello

I wasn't prepared for the fact that the Alamo is literally right in the middle of a dense downtown area of San Antonio. There's paid parking nearby, but the free street-side parking a 1/2 mile walk from the Alamo seemed like a better option. The walking tour was worth it, as our guide described where some of the old structures near the Alamo used to be, and had a really good knowledge of the entire history of the site.

Joe Tesar

What a beautiful place , Great experience and the people really made us feel like part of history. It's a must see when in Austin Texas. Also visit the river walk. You will not be let down.

Lethicia Park

The place looks old but historical to see. The site is beautiful and very well-maintained. There is such a rich history and culture to the area that is hard to leave unimpressed. You can read about the building and its history on various posters. You have to walk from the parking area to the Alamo.

Araceli Magana

Beautiful historic site filled with artifacts that tell the history of the Alamo, from its beginning to present day. There was even a "living encampment" area where you could see what life at the Alamo was like. Great place to take the kids for a fun history lesson.

Margie Chico

My son is a locomotive train subway trim bus freak when it comes to any type of Transportation my son loves it today we finally made it to San Antonio to see the Big Boy locomotive and wow wow what a tremendous monster of a train or rather locomotive it is so big so black so impressive I can't find the words to describe what this locomotive stanced Ford for what it does I understand there's history to it it was a dream come true for my son it made his day is his passion and I am so glad that we got to even touch the Big Boy locomotive what fun it was great and not so hot sometimes the sun can be overwhelming but it wasn't so bad today the whole trip to San Antonio and visiting the locomotive big boy it was a great day

Jesse Robinson

Better than all the history books and second hand stories...The Alamo stands as a stern reminder that our history, without preservation, can be lost to the ravages of time and our own uneducated love. The structure is undergoing preservation to ensure another 300 years of historical fortitude. Entrance is free (for now), so consider contributing to the preservation efforts of the church by dropping a couple of bucks with the tour guide as you enter the door- sorry no pictures allowed inside, but you can take all you want from the outside.

Louis

Any visitor to Texas must spend time at the Alamo. The video is well worth seeing. Come early before the crowd shows up. The docents are very knowledgeable. Ask them as much as you want. This is a great place to sit and take a break from exploring San Antonio. Sit under the big tree and take a load off while you watch all the people in front of the Alamo.

Avinash J

We loved walking around and reading about the history of this place. The staff at the site were very nice and it was obvious that preservation is a priority. Restoration is underway but still a great historical site to visit and gain an understanding of Texas history. Stop by and watch a film on the history, visit the library which has artifacts from the time and see the barrick (which is being preserved at the time of our visit), and an area where you can see statues, etc.You can’t come to San Antonio and not see the Alamo!

prana01

We had a great time touring the Alamo. There is such a rich history and culture to the area that it is hard to leave unimpressed. Our teenagers really enjoyed it since it helped to bring history to life for them. I love taking trips to see historic sites, and this one did not disappoint. As an aside, there is significant construction/restoration going on due to the nature of the limestone building material. Please keep that in mind if you visit.

Veronica Martinez

Save yourself some time and visit one of the missions instead. The Alamo, although a Texas staple and icon is a "must see", it is also highly commercialized. Tons of tourists distract you from this historical site making it difficult to take it all in. If you're still interested, you'll enjoy it nonetheless. If you are interested in a historical site with little to no for traffic, consider one of the missions.

Lolita Stallworth

Loved it.. Went there for my bday.. Very Educational.. Then across the street is where you can ride the carriages.. Awesome.. Very nice..

Charles Milton

Must see. A Texas treasure. Family friendly. Can't come to San Antonio without seeing. No cost. Don't pass up

Jen L

What a great time here, it was kinda crowded but everyone was nice. No pushy people. A must see if can visit.

Tyrus McClure

If I'm in San Antonio it is mandatory I see the Alamo as a Texan and to jokingly tell anyone not from here that they better remember it. While only being a small section of the original Fort/Mission it still has tons of history within it along with the greatest diorama..I think that's what they are called, things with the little mini figures fighting and stuff? Anyways, definitely worth a visit!

Robert Jones

All Americans (especially Texans) should make a point to tour this historic site. Very informative as well as enjoyable .

Shannon Strickland

Very informative and well preserved. Beautiful Gardens. Short tour but so Rustic. Awesome hour of our San Antonio trip.

Kimberley Seitz

While this is a historic place, there's really not much to see. There are no guided tours or opportunities to listen to anything, but you can read about the building and its history on various posters. On a hot day, it's cool and side. It's free to enter and easy to find. It's on a nice piece of property, which includes trees and flowers and shrubs native to the area.

L A Heath

I LOVE the new cannon placed outside the front of the Alamo. So excited that the State is taking steps to assess the building's condition and get in place a plan to preserve it for future generations. The museum on grounds is small but informative with an especially fun 360 degree digital screen that permits you to overlay the Alamo now with the imagined way it was many years ago. I've been following the archaeologists online in FB as they've excavated various parts of the grounds. Love it.

Justin Wells

The preservation of history at this landmark is astounding. The guides and workers have a wealth of knowledge. Stop in and talk to everyone in costume to enhance your visit.

C S

We did a quick walk through, no pictures are allowed inside but you can take pictures of the outside. It is free to go inside but they do offer paid tours. The outside grounds are kept really nice, it was very clean when we went. There is a lot to do in the surrounding area. I posted a picture of a postcard and a magnet I purchased in gift shop.

Kelly Maxey

So strange seeing this place in the middle of a bustling city, but once you step inside you go back in time. Beautiful courtyards. Informative. The little museum has a lot of cool artifacts. I like that you can choose from a self guided tour, a guided tour with guide or audio.

Jessica Ivy Distad

The Alamo is not as big as I thought it was going to be. I also didn't realize it was RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF San Antonio. If you're planning a visit, go in the winter months, because I just about died trying to walk around in 100 degree heat in September. The free self guided tour was great, and I liked the 17 minute free film they show in the back gift shop.

R Ravi

Excellent museum to visit with family near river walk area. Visited last week enjoyed thoroughly.

Sarah Kate Smith

I enjoyed visiting the Alamo and reading about its history and seeing all the different parts. I went midday on a Tuesday in the summer and there was a pretty good-sized crowd inside and out. The grounds are very nice and well-kept. There are some neat statues outside to view as well. You can make your trip to the Alamo as long or as short as you want. If you want to take your time to view everything and read all of the historical information, then do it. If you want to just pop in and give it a quick walk around, go ahead and do that, but make sure that you mark stopping by the Alamo off of your San Antonio bucket list.

KRISTINA RAMIREZ

Amazing place with so much history. Take beautiful pictures in their gardens and if you have a chance, visit during the day since certain days they have employees dressed like the 1800s.

Christopher Valdez

The last time I was here was when I was a kid. Now that I have my own children, I wanted them to see it and the rich history of it. It still holds an awe wonder. My family enjoyed the whole interaction with the ones dressed in uniform and the firing of the old guns and cannons.

Amy G

My first visit was 15 years ago, very different now! Loved the History channel movie, great volunteers providing live history. Enjoyed seeing the church, and the beautiful trees. So grateful for the restoration happening onsite. What a treasure.

Stuart Hough

Cool to see and photograph.not a lot to do there. Some reenactment type folk pottering around sharing history of the building. Funnelled into an expansive gift store afterwards where you can purchase Alamo related paraphernalia

Bob Jeffers

Very impressive and educational place. Easy to find and free to enter. Currently undergoing renovation so some important things are not available.

Christina M

I recently attended the Saturday Living History Event, about "Legends of the Texas Rangers." The Texas Rangers have been a huge part of Texas History from the beginning; and there were antique artifacts from games to weapons, on Display. The costumes were made to be authentic; and each person was a different historical figure! This was such a wonderful afternoon. Thank you!!!

Nathan Oppie

Cool historical site with an incredible back story. They are very strict on not having you touch the walls or take photos inside. Why not photos? The roof inside was re-done and its cool to see the old and the new parts come together. All the names are listed on the plaques inside. If you look closely you can see that there was a second story that is gone. Most of this information can be found from the pamphlet or asking someone who works there. Didn't pay the money for the tour so I don't know if that's worth it but at least you can walk in and look around for free.

Judith Abbey

Great historical place with lots of interesting things to see. There’s a viewing area where they show and basically tell a chronological story about the Alamo. The gift shop has lots of merchandise to choose from. Definitely check out this piece of history if you’re in the area

Orianna Snook

Had always heard of the Alamo, but not the story. The video was very informative. They had some staff in character providing additional stories and information about the way of life at the Alamo.

John Barnes

Intuitive and personal depending on how you view the exhibits. Reenactors bring the experience to life. Over all a nice experience. We chose the $7 audio tour which was very informative.

Nathan Graf

Great historical treasure and welcome respite from the San Antonio heat. I enjoyed the sculptures, manicured grounds, and historical markers. Right now it is falling into disrepair, I hope Texas and the city of San Antonio take steps to preserve it for the future.

Steve

Pretty cool history behind it all, considering it's in the middle of town. I was not expecting that. From the artifacts to the way they lived to the stunning landscape inside the Alamo, it was quite breathtaking. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because you can't take pictures inside the actual church, even though some people were rude and stupid enough to do so.

Jeannette Zallar

This is a wonderful place in Texas history, and is a must visit. I strongly recommend walking shoes, and the audio tour. There is also the Weapons tour, which is also recommended, as the guide is very knowledgeable on the subject.

Diana McDonald

Educational and friendly workers with a beautiful garden surrounding, but, often, the wait to get in is VERY long and, if you’re not willing to wait for at least thirty minutes in the hot summer sun, you’re not in luck. We came here last year, and overall was a good experience, just needs a bit more work

Brenda Clayton

Audio tour was great. Covered a lot of history we never knew. Not crowded although got hot during day. But lots of shade around the gardens. A little construction taking place & digging. But didn't distract too much..I felt like I was back in the day...

Chuck Allen

Was really fun to walk the grounds of such history. It is literally in the middle of San Antonio downtown and is just quite the place. Hot in the summer for sure, but it has a lot of shade because of so many trees and a few shops to duck into.

C H

Time to visit Texas. This is an American treasure chest of history. I had the pleasure of bringing some students here. We were able to enjoy past American history, that alerted our thinking of what the US was like at its humble beginnings. This is definitely a tourist attraction especially for families. The guided tour is excellent. This was the spot of a great battle ground many years ago. It is filled with nostalgia characterizing what was happening at that time. It is worth the time, lines, heat, parking and food. I would do it again. Go online for the specific details. Visit soon. Cool place!!! I'm wondering how hot it is there today!!! Hot!

Jeffrey Watters

This building is a representation of History. Unfortunately they won't let you take pictures inside the building. It's a pleasant place to spend an hour or even two but it lacks.

Jason Hexom

My family and I went on the guided tour and we all thought it was laid out quite well. The attention to detail and kindness of the staff was more than we expected. They work constantly to keep the Alamo in good condition and are excavating to find new and interesting artifacts. Must see in San Antonio

Ellie McPherson

I like that you can walk around for free and do your own tour. I thought the guided tour was a bit boring and long though, my parents also felt that way so we bailed a little early.

Amanda Wolff

How can you "Not" Like the Alamo. This is Texas History. The line was a little long to get in, but it was a Saturday morning in the Summer. The landscaping on the interior part of the mission is beautiful and lush. Outside the Alamo, in the Square, there are lots of shops to check out. God Bless Texas!

Julia Tarantseva

Entrance to the Alamo and its grounds is free, so you don’t need to worry about tickets. But it’s good to remember that upkeep depends on donations (you’ll see collection bins on the property). The Alamo is basically a monument of what it means to be Texan. The story goes: The Alamo was a battleground for Texans resisting the Mexican army, led by General Santa Anna. Though he succeeded in taking it on March 6, 1836, the bravery of the heroes who refused to surrender (including Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie) resulted in cries of “Remember the Alamo!” which rallied Texans to keep fighting. It worked–later battles led to Texas’s independence. Without this final stand, the border between the U.S. and Mexico might look a lot different today.

Yesenia Pérez

Very educational experience, especially if you are a transplant from elsewhere living in Texas. Is good to get you history up to date. I recommend visiting when weather is cooler. If you come in summer you might not enjoy strolling in the garden.

Maurice Lane

First family visit to the Alamo. Did the free tour to enjoy at our pace. A great deal of respect for our country's history when you see and learn about contributions for all involved forming this nation. Loved the tribute to lesser known individuals who were a part of this series of events.

Frank Salinas

Love the history museum. Brave men on all sides, Also, they had a infantry reenactment. Finally, a large 3D interactive tour of the Alamo 200 years ago on monitor, cool!

Jennifer Ross

Oh my goodness! It was awesome. You must go visit. So many people paid their lives there for our freedom that most people take for granted. REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

Rob Lewan

I went a month ago and it was free to get in which gives it 5 stars in my book. I was in SA 10 years ago and I recall there being a fee. Don't quote me but I didn't go because of that. Anyway, if in SA ---GO! Staff was nice too!

Carlos Alas

This review is not for the Alamo itself, but for the employees who work there. As a US history teacher I was very excited to visit such a historically significant site, and it was indeed very nice and definitely worth the visit. However, every single employee that we encountered today was extremely rude. The girl at the entrance immediately said something to one of my kids for simply touching the wall. Three minutes into walking around I was curious as to why we weren’t allowed to take pictures inside (which is utterly ridiculous) so I decided to ask one of the employees in there. In a very condescending tone/manner he answered, “This is a sacred site and it’s out of respect for those who died. It’s actually very simple to understand.” I was with my family and didn’t want to ruin their day so I just walked away instead of telling him a few things. A little bit later, we went to purchase some overpriced bottles of water and the cashier made no effort to acknowledge my 5 year old daughter who was very happily trying to talk to her and get her attention. She was flat out ignoring her. After we paid, there was no “thank you”, “have a nice day”, etc etc. In conclusion, the historical site itself is worth the visit, especially if you’re a history buff. But be ready to encounter miserable employees. I hope whoever currently runs the Alamo reads this and has a nice, long chat with their employees because no one deserves to be treated the way we were treated, especially after driving 1500 miles to see the place.

David Cornejo

A must do if you are visiting San Antonio! The Alamo is in the heart in the heart of Texas, and it represents that. The Heroic Sacrifices made by those lost during the Battle of the Alamo, represents the patriotism all Texans have.

Maria-Edna Bon

We love knowing History, especially when there are differences in the context and content. The site is very well kept and the information is invaluable if/when our societies learn from History, successes and mistakes. My 3rd time there 1st for my husband and would return time & funds permitting in spring or late fall...Was hot & humid. Enjoyable, though.

Olga Mishchenko

Free entrance. Lots of people here on the weekend. It has a gallery with the history explanation. The church. Very important historical site. And very close to the river walk

M P

If you are in San Antonio, it is a must place to visit. Small space but full of history. Beautiful place for family photos. It is a historic monument. Totally worth it to visit.

jack brown

Preservation/restoration dollars have really been put to good use. Docents were extremely knowledgeable. Extremely well maintained grounds. Gift shop had too much cheap, tacky, touristy junk. Truly a national treasure and one all Americans should see.

Matt Oliver

I enjoy it every time I go it seems to rain every time though it's mostly indoors so weather is not really going to change the experience the tour is cool they also have a for you can take with a little speaker that tells you about stuff worth going to if your in town

Carolyn LeCroy

We really enjoyed our tour of the Alamo and surrounding grounds. Video was very informative. ❤ living history, outside museum and history (timeline) wall and displays. Free entry. Extra charges for audio tour.

Andrew Hovenden

One of the places that I studied and dreamt about as a kid and so I was thrilled to visit.

Vinay Yakkundi

An excellent historical site that is a must see if you're visiting San Antonio! There is no parking at the monument itself, but lots of parking lots that are just a 5-10 minute walk away. A lot of people say "it's a lot smaller than I thought it would be..." when the first see it, but it has a nice garden in the back and lots to explore. Just remember that you're not allowed to take photos inside the actual mission. Definitely a must see if you're visiting San Antonio.

Anne Johnson

We enjoyed our visit to this special piece of American history. Make sure you watch the free movie which explains the importance of the Alamo.

Bruce Morris

First time trip to San Antonio, so I HAD to make the trip to the Alamo. Very organized and very well done presentation of the history. I got the impression that presenters really knew and cared about the history. I was not able to see all of it but want to make another trip there soon!

Anil Gangur

A great place for History lovers and for kids to learn about History. As my academics is in other country, never knew why Texas called as lone star state until I visited this place. It is amazing how an effort is made to maintain this historical place and developed museums and other exhibits to take you back in history. Suggest parents to take their kids.

deept mano

Lovely historical place. There was a texas war here. Very neatly kept. Has rest rooms. Guided tour. Gift shop.

Mike Bowers

"REMEMBER THE ALAMO"...it was great. Full of information and history. The actual site is very small these days as u will find out why when u go. It's a free exhibition or if u want a guided tour the it's about $16. They offer 3 different tours.

James Valdes

Definitely a site to see and a real great piece of history still standing. Not much to keep the attention for the kids 10 and under. But moving at a steady pass seemed to work out with our 8 year old.

Neil Mitchell

As a non American, I didn't have much knowledge of the Alamo or its' history. Following the visit, now I do. Excellent guides and narratives from the staff employed to tell the full story. We didn't do the guided tour, but relied on all the displayed information to give us a good insight. I agree that this is the number one attraction of San Antonio, and should be seen by all visitors. The Alamo movie showing in the adjacent IMAX is also a good source of the history, and fully compliments the Alamo site.

Matina Rose

Such an amazing sense of history! It is amazing to walk in the spot where this momentous event in the history of Texas happened. It's very well preserved and kept up. A must see for every Texan.

Ada Olasebikan

I love this place. I had never been and always wanted to go. I will go again. The experience was so wonderful.

Theresa I

Free entry; absolutely worth the walk. The museum is very well maintained and informative. Staff present are knowledgeable. Breathtaking gardens! No photos inside the chapel.

The San Antonio Reviewer

Essential building block of Texas's great and extensive history, take the time to do the tour and see everything this landmark has to offer. Each time you go you will learn something new from either the workers or the local Texans. There is also from my understanding a night "ghost" tour if you want to shake things up. Never forget to Remember The Alamo.

Ann McCarty

Great historic site. It is located directly in the heart of town. The site is beautiful and very well maintained. Visitors can walk through the actual mission, read historic facts and visit with time period actors to learn how it really was back then in daily life. I highly recommend visiting this very important site in our American History.

Vince Adamo

If you enjoy historic locations this one is cool. There isn't much there but then again it was overrun in a battle lost by Americans so as a military location it's as rare as Pearl Harbor. While I enjoyed seeing the artifacts and reading the history of the location it may not be for everyone.

Christine Gonzales

I have been here several times and each time is an experience. The grounds are beautiful and the history abundant. Don't just walk through it! Take it all in, every wall has it's own story to tell...like marks of the masons and holes from the cannon fire.

Diego Acosta

A very historical place with many things to read about what occurred during this time period. Very well organized and has many exhibits to look at including a gift shop and statues. Keep in mind you are in San Antonio so the heat something to watch out for at all times. Favorite things being able to look at the church has been standing its ground since the 17th century.

Lynne Franklin

Texas history. More impressed this time than when I was a 15 year old many many years ago. Lots of shade and beautiful places to sit and people watch. Free to get in but they really get you on parking! Not easily handicapped accessible.

Ken Johnson

If you love history, this is a great free place to visit. Clean washrooms, friendly staff, and well thought out exhibits. Beautiful grounds as well.

Probably smaller than you expect. But if you're in San Antonio and interested in history at all, or even if you aren't, what else are you going to do? It's kinda a must see. Right in the middle of the city, at least drive or walk by to take a picture of the front if you don't want to go in.

Warren Smyth

The Alamo is free to enter, on your way in staff take a photo which you can chose to purchase at a cost of $32 for 3 photos, unfortunately you are unable to take any photos inside the mission, once in the grounds you have plenty of photo ops, there is a short video of its history, I found this interesting, there is a small building which houses artifacts associated with the period, I was hoping to see some of the pieces donated by fellow Brit and one time owner of many artefacts, Phil Collins, even if your not on a guided tour there are plenty of staff willing to answer your questions, the one reason I came to San Antonio and I wasn't disappointed, the only reason I gave it 4* was due to the cost of items for sale within its perimeter $3.25 for a 500ml bottle of water was a rip off, overall a very good visit...

My family and I went to the Alamo and saw much of nothing. We could have easily have went to a library and got a book on the history of the Alamo, and also could have saved an excessive amount of money to pay to park at an overpriced parking lot just to see virtually nothing but a few pictures of weapons and the people who were involved with the war between Mexico and the United States: better still; view the history of the Alamo on the internet.

Khrys McKinney

A must see spot in San Antonio. We went to see it at night and it was worth the side trip even though we could not go inside to tour. The Texas Ranger on duty was a great addition. He even had an interesting swap token.

Most people say it’s smaller than they thought it would be; while that’s true of the Alamo itself - it’s good to remember that it was a mission first, a place of worship. Secondly, it’s a memorial because of those who died there. The entire compound however is rather large. More to the site than the mission itself and all of it worth a look - most of the exterior grounds are very shaded which is a nice break from the heat of the Alamo if you’re visiting in summer. To see the Alamo without a tour is free! Unheard of for most historical sites anywhere in the country or the world. If you want a self guided or guided tour if you’re not familiar with the site’s historical significance in Texas, there is a reasonable fee. It’s conveniently located to many things San Antonio is famous for, so for me it’s a first stop must. You’ll take tons of pictures, see some cool stuff and then be right by the river walk, San Fernando cathedral, market square, la villita and more.

It doesn't take too long to wonder through the Alamo. It is a historical site that is clearly marked with neat facts about the building and grounds that work well for a self guided tour. If you desire they also have guided tours that provides much more insightful stories of the site. It was interesting to listen to the "live in character" actors tell about the weaponry of the period.

Very nice and not too much of a tourist trap! Enough restrooms and just the right amount of food/restaurants

The Alamo is a cute little old mission that you can go inside to visit (when I visited on a Saturday afternoon, the line was quite long to visit inside the mission itself). There is also an (entirely English) exhibit that tells the history of The Alamo. Lots of text to read and a few artifacts. My favorite thing about The Alamo were the old pecan trees on the site. In spite of the many tourists, you can look up and feel some peace. The walls surrounding The Alamo were fascinating, as well. Note: While entering The Alamo is free, parking in the surrounding area is not. I didn't shop around, but the first place I found was $22

You can feeeeel the aura of the past..well preserved..in 2 hours we saw the whole thing! And its pretty big with the monastery, gardens, shows, gift shop etc etc...oh while your there do the river walk!

Fernando Salazar

Would have been great if the Movie they have was working. Summary of the whole story in a short film is needed because the information is too spread out. Staff was great though. Nice that it's free.

Cheryl Swingle

How can you not like the Alamo! Steeped in rich history and stories, this exhibit has more than seen at first glance. Be sure to see the full lot of buildings, artifacts, and film. Even with the construction taking place it is well worth your time and the admission is free!

Kaihley Reiner

It's such a small place to hold soooooo much history integral to Texas. Being born and raised in Texas, I heard the story many, many times. This is only my third visit and it had been a really long time since my last visit. I was surprised at how much they have done to the surrounding area to make it a more memorable destination. Kudos to the city of San Antonio for the monies they put into this area

Lee Sistrunk

I am a history fanatic and the Alamo was at the top of my list. I have to say I was not disappointed. This experience was amazing and great inexpensive fun. I loved seeing these sites I read about as a kid and the history was outstanding. I also learned so much that I was never taught in school. I recommend for anyone who is interested, you won't be disappointed.

Ryan Ard

The Alamo isn't just a tourist attraction. Although I was happy to finally see it. There was also a somber feeling to remember those men's sacrifice. To be where Davy Crockett, James Bowie and William Travis and many others stood their ground and fell. To see where the history took place. No words can describe it. And you can see the love and dedication that they have in keeping it preserved. Glad I came. FYI. No pictures or videos can be taken inside. It's just something you have to see for yourselves.

yasminymp

I Love the History of a story, that I did not know, I visited the one downtown, and the others , that you can see if you take bus number #40. Bus #11 is also a Tourist bus. Both buses are right in front of the Alamo. I enjoyed everything about the Alamo, and the whole San Antonio area. Enjoy your trip.

Rick Clark

This is great to see even if it is just a walk by in the evening after it is closed. Would have been nice to get closer, but I get it....

juan mireles

Loved it. There's an employee in the main church giving a whole detailed run down of the battle. Very informative and all around good visit.

Austin Spivey

Not what I was expecting. Temper expectations folks. A rather small little compound right in downtown. Relatively little historical excitement sans the one battle. Cool to have seen, but not exactly a destination type place. Very cool trees on property.

Parnell Williams

It's history of our state. What else can i say? It's a great exhibit. And with the other museums across the street, good food and great ice cream on the corner, it's a great way to spend a day.

Simon Prosser

Obviously a great place for the history and worth the visit for that. There's not much original to see and once you're inside you have to deal with the horribly overbearing staff doing their best to ruin any enjoyment. The grounds are great and worth spending some time in. Of course there's a well-stocked gift shop that's as overpriced as expected. If profits are going to conservation, I'm ok with that. Worth a visit? Yes. Just.

Brett Palmer

What a beautiful historical monument. So glad this is being preserved for people to come and have a great experience. Live the historical significance of the Alamo. A must see.

Avionna Burns

Visiting The Alamo was a great experience. There was a video playing that taught me about the history of the building. Additionally, the staff was eager to answer all of my questions.

Nancy Haworth

It was great to tour this historic and educational site! My family arrived just as they opened, so it was not too crowded or too hot. It is a must-see if you're in the San Antonio area.

Cal Plank

A fantastic piece of history preserved for all to access. Free entry and great entertainment inside. Being Welsh I was sad to find out that the Welshman who died was found to be English however Gwynne is a very Welsh surname so I think if they do a bit of research on his past they will find James is actually a Welshman

Bryan Zimbardi

I learned a lot while I was here. The guides inside the building really had some great information that I never saw in a text book. They was so much history and little details you have to go and see to believe it. The story I grew up with was very littered with Urban legend, it was cool to see it all first hand. Admission is free, definitely check it out.

Denny Brenny

Remember the Alamo! A lot of history here. Alamo is a must see when in San Antonio. It’s clean and very easy to get to and to navigate. Takes about an hour or less to see it all.

Jason Weeks

It was great to visit this historic site. Not much left there but is still great to see and learn about the battle there. It was good to visit with my dad

Asia Nicole

This was such an interesting exhibit. I grew up in the Midwest so, the Alamo was a small blip in US history to me. I was much more intrigued than I thought I would be. It was a great time!

Myra Williams

Free tour! Walk through and read about its history and restoration efforts. Make sure to walk all the way through and go watch the video. It has great details of what took place there. And make sure to walk around and see the giant Oak Trees...amazing!

Fernando Nunes

What a well done National Monument. This is a great place to learn about the complex history of Texas and what makes it unique. Some great recreations and the people working there seemed to love their work.

Tim Hewitt

Really neat to see and close to the amazing River Walk. Take a narrated boat tour!!! Highly recommend the boat ride.

Jim McIntyre

For me it was one of the most moving places I've visited, second only to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. My tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate. The grounds were peaceful and educational, teeming with historical significance and great artifacts and displays including an interactive screen that morphed from the past Alamo to present day.

Kevin Sooley

It's the Alamo. Best place in Texas. Bring fish food they got giant gold fish in the moat

Stefanie Wright

A pretty deep insight into the soul of Texas. I love that this site is FREE! I even bought the touristy souvenir photos because I felt like giving a little something back. I am now intrigued to study more about the conflict there, and that time in history.

Derek Gantt

A few weeks ago we happened to overhear a man relating a story of how he had confused the Alamo with "a la mode" dessert as a child ("Battle of the a la mode!") and we got interested in learning more about the Alamo from there. It was moving to see the site in person and reflect on the history. The information provided gives good context without crowding out the site itself. With free admission and a location in the middle of downtown, of course it is a "must see" for visitors.

Crouton

A trip that finally happened! It was a great visit and the staff were very friendly. I just so happened to come when there was a lot of construction going on and certain areas were inaccessible, but at least it’ll improve it after it’s done. Nice statues and artifacts from the timeline and educational information to read about.

Dean Dexter

The Alamo is always a great place to start your visit of San Antonio. The museum is well thought out and the grounds nice. They have a number of displays that help you really understand what you are seeing and the history of the place. Best of all it's free. You can pay for an audio your or for special guides. But admission is free.
