REVIEWS OF Silent Wings Museum IN Texas

JAMES YOUNG

Spent two hours recently touring this wonderful museum. Covers a lot of WWII history that most people are not aware of. The museum people were very helpful and we actually found references to my brother-in-law's father who was a glider pilot during the war. Robert Hills participated in Operation Market Garden and he is in their database. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there and will eventually bring my B.I.L. back so that he can talk directly with the museum folks. Was able to share some history about how the Steinway Piano Company made glider parts during the war. Well worth the money!

Cami Daniels

Over priced. Closed early. Two galleries closed. Nose art contains nudity. I really wanted to like this place. Not fun for kids.

This is a great museum if you want to learn about the WWII history and about the gliders, one of the most interesting and apparently useful aspects of war systems. Try to catch their free times. They have real-life models, planes, a nice projected show, etc.

It was quite fun and interesting to a history buff like myself, although I must say I do not think children or those not interested in WW2 already would not enjoy it too much.

Great place to bring the little ones. They were able to witness and learn about Gliders and the impact they had on US history. It's not an interactive museum- was a little bummer, but understandable. Come check this out if you're in town. If you visit the Buddy Holly Museum first, you receive a 50% off entry fee coupon. Worth it!

WW2 Glider Pilot and Airborne displays. You will not find this memorabilia outside of a Base or Normandy. Unique perspective that Americans totally willing to go into the unknown with almost 0 probability they'd ever return. AATW-RLTW

I recently visited the Silent Wings Museum and I was pleasantly surprised. I've been to the D-Day Museum in New Orleans as well as numerous museums in Normandy, France and Silent Wings, while smaller than most of them, certainly doesn't lack information or static displays regarding the gliders, their pilots and the job they performed. I read most every article and watched almost every video and it took me about 3hrs to go through it. When I was ready to go I was surprised so much time had elapsed as I was that engrossed. The displays were first rate and included numerous items and tidbits of information that I hadn't know. If you have the time and the inclination to learn or refresh your memory regarding the job these brave pilots and soldiers performed it is time well spent. Touching the canvas of the Waco gliders brought me thoughts of what it must have been like to be shot at while riding in one of these things. Looking back now it seems crazy to have done what they did. I'm glad those guys were on our side...

Surprisingly interesting. It’s a small museum (for a place that houses airplanes), but very well kept and well done. Figured it would be a quick in and out, but took us two hours and a little more, and we could have spent longer. If you enjoy WWII history and aviation, this is a must stop and see.
