REVIEWS OF San Antonio Fire Museum IN Texas

Nader Abdallah

Amazing experience and a wonderful staff. Tour guides were retired firefighters who clearly have a passion for this and love to share their insight, experience and information on the their time and the history of the San Antonio fire department. The fact that the museum is in the old fire station 1 made the experience all the better.

Franklin Edwards

Amazing employees and so much knowledge and dedication to such a powerful career.

Doug Williams

There is a lot of history here, and there are fun things for the kids. The staff consists of local fire fighters and some from around the country. It was nice catching up with old friends.

James Collins

Great place. Fun time.

Mandy Phillips

You have to visit! It was OUTSTANDING. The men and women working inside answered every single question that each of us had (there were 12 in our group) and gave us an amazing tour.

Richard Ozuna

Love it. I have never had the opportunity to see the old next to the new when it comes to firefighting. This small museum is downtown and well worth the short walk. The history of the San Antonio Fire Department is deep and the docents love what they do. Ask a lot of questions or just enjoy. It is well worth your while. They let us in for free. They said "You are free today." I purchased merchandise and gave a donation on my way out. It is a must visit on your trip to San Antonio. It is a stones throw (literally) from the Alamo.

Keith Peacock

This is a wonderful museum, especially if you're a firefighter! There is so much history in this place as well as old equipment, very educational. It's ran by volunteers, that are beyond helpful. We visited during the week, so we had a personal escort, Walter. He's full of knowledge and very humble. We really enjoyed ourselves. There are activities for children to keep them entertained. As of our visit it was free, but they will start charging a small fee Feb 1st. Make sure you leave $$ for a donation.

This place is fabulous! We scheduled a field trip here for our homeschool co-op group and our tour guide, Fireman Dan, was so impressive! He held the children's attenion the entire time and had the parents laughing as well. The kids watched a puppet show on fire safety and were able to climb through an ambulance, try on firefighter gear, and run an old fire alarm. Everyone had a blast!

Great little museum, lots of history about the San Antonio firefighters and their beginnings. Good information, great pictures. The sections on specialties (arson, hazard, etc...) Are tiny but informative. There's even a section on women firefighters. The volunteers that run it are retired firefighters. They were working on making the entire museum air conditioned when I stopped by.

Right downtown, just behind the Alamo, and lots of cool history if you are interested in firefighting. Easy to miss, though, and on the very edge of downtown, so you're unlikely to stumble upon this place unless you're deliberately looking for it.

Ryan Schmidt

Great experience. My kids loved it, wife loved it, & I loved it.

CJ

Interesting place to stop at, worth checking out.

Great exhibit and history of SA fire. With our 2 firefighters touring the museum, they really liked the comprehensive amount of equipment shown and the history. Wonderful experience, the curators here are retired firefighters! The real life experiences they are willing to share are a plus when you visit. The price for entry is very reasonable and the amount of history is fairly extensive. There are two sides to the museum, one side is mostly historical artifacts and the backside has some exhibits for the children to interact with. Overall a great way to spend an hour or more.

David Mullins

Great walk through of a part of San Antonio history

Amanda Carullo

If you've got a Fire Fighter, they will love this!!

Matthew Chovanec

Of all the things I really appreciated about this great, small museum was the responsible and honest way it treated the history of black firefighters as being a “low point” in the city’s history. The museum doesn’t shy away from or sugar coat this racist history, but instead acknowledges it and celebrates local black achievement. You’d be hard pressed to find such honorable approaches like this in any museum.

Scott Pensa

Great place to visit. Great for kids and adults.

Mary Rodriguez

So much fun, learned lots... very helpful gentleman thanks for showing the kiddos around and informing them on interesting facts.

This historic fire museum is situated in downtown San Antonio. The fire station was in use until 2011. The museum first opened in 2013. There are plenty of exhibits that explain the history of the history of the fire department. There is even a children's section that has activities. The cost to enter is minimal. The gift shop is conveniently located at the main entrance. I highly recommend this museum to those in the fire service or those interested in the history.

Great fun place and piece of San Antonio history!!

s. greer

Brought my kids and my cousin, a captain in the Houston fire dept, and his family. Spent about an hour. Cool stuff, place was busy on a Saturday morning. No private tour for us, but plenty to look at and great conversation and stories (stuff his wife and kids didn't know even)from my cousin he shared a lot of his knowledge. I left with a deeper respect for firefighters. Cousin said the museum was way better than Houston's.

My husband brought our sons aged 11 and 8 to this museum while we were on holiday from Ireland. Both boys had such a good time there thanks to their very nice guide Frank. They talked about Frank and the museum the entire weekend .., thank you so much for making my boys feel very much at home and for taking the time to show and explain everything to them. They have told all their friends about Frank (who they both think is awesome) and we couldn't recommend this museum more highly for kids and adults too.. An afternoon well spent you won't be disappointed ..

Kailey Owens

The staff is composed of genuinely dedicated firefighter retirees, which makes for a really great experience for museum visitors. They really know their stuff! We were greeted by a really friendly host/guide who gave us a brief background on the museum history and the SAFD as a whole. The exhibits are very interesting and well put together, and the museum is tidy and very well kept. I was told they have fire safety events for kids to learn the dangers of playing with fire. I would recommend this museum for people of any age.

This place is absolutely amazing. My dad was a fireman and there's so much stuff here I recognize and can explain to my kids. I loved that one of the people there showed us around at first and then gave us time to look around. I think my kids could have spent hours just putting on the fire fighter gear and pretending to put out fires.

Roger Clark

This museum was very interesting the men and woman were very friendly and that made our trip more enjoyable.

Gwen Mannor

Wonderfully authentic and kind retired firemen to show you around.

Small but well-put together museum located in a former fire house. It's run by volunteer retired firefighters who know everything about the history of San Antonio's fire department. Many old trucks and other items on display. Worth a visit if you like history and\or firefighting!

Mandy H

What a wonderful place! Super affordable, and my kids absolutely loved it! You're started off with a volunteer firefighter tour that tells you about some of their items, then they let you explore on your own. My kids loved dressing up at firemen pretended to put out fires. So glad we stopped here, it's amazing!

They have put so much time and work into it..it's just amazing what these people who donate their lives to protect others are now doing for the community. Visit this museum. We took our grandson here when we were visiting him in San Antonio. My husband is a firefighter and wanted our grandson to see the trucks and meet the fireman that run this Museum. Our experience was so much more than what we could have ever imagined. The fireman and volunteers that run this Museum are wonderful people and gave us a very nice tour. Our grandson enjoyed it, our daughters enjoyed it, and my husband and I were thoroughly entertained and enjoyed it as well. This is a very worthwhile stop in the city of San Antonio and I would highly recommend it to anybody!

Desiree Slusher

What a great fire museum! So much information and so many trucks! They even have one you can climb on and fire gear you can try on. My husband is a firefighter and even he learned some things about the history of firefighting. I didn't know that some fire trucks throughout history were a neon yellow-green! Or that the San Antonio FD has had many father-daughter pairs!

Part of history

Great price. Staff gave us a tour and was very knowledgeable. It was fun and kids learned a lot.

We had the pleasure of being guided by Bob today, he was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The museum has many items, photos, real trucks, badges, etc for you to browse through. Best part was taking a family photo in the provided fire gear and being able to hand crank the siren on an antique truck. If you are a FIRE PERSON, this is a MUST DO!!

Great place, especially for kids. Passionate staff/volunteers. They have historically significant fire engines and a new area added on that is now kid friendly. The kid friendly area is set up for birthday parties, there's an ambulance and a fire truck that there kids can run around on too. The parking is tricky. If you go down the street to the Bonham you'll find the best deal.

Roger Garza

Great place to visit. They have some really nice memorabilia to see.
