Here you will be able to see the information of real people who have information of the services of Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum (Museum) around Texas area.
To this day this business has a rating of 4.8 over 5 and that score has been calculated on 366 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is nearly the highest, and it is based on a very high number of scores, so we may be pretty sure that the valuation is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to leave their opinion when they are happy with the business, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to put tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Museum is included in the category of History museum.
This was the best historical experience I ever had
This museum exhibits an amazing story of the Texas Panhandle from it people to its resources that built our city. Great for children to explore through pull out drawers, walk thru replica of a pioneer town, and many other kid friendly designs. One of the best museums by far that my family has been to!
Great museum. Covers so many aspects of the plains, it's people, its history, its geography, the art it has inspired, etc. etc. etc. I highly recommend it. It is very large, so either plan on at least 3 hours, or multiple visits.
Worth a visit, good museum with alot of Texas history. As a UK resident I was impressed with the artifacts.
My wife heard about the museum and researched it online. The museum far exceeded our expectations. One of my boys loved the firearms exhibit and the other boy loved the buffalo exhibit.
Largest museum I have ever been to. So much history. Very enjoyable.
I wish there was a 10 star rating. This museum is one of the best, with the coolest staff and neatest exhibits. Worth the trip where ever you live!
Pretty decent for a regional museum. Especially enjoyed all the fossils. Some of the layout could be re-worked.
Huge museum and very well put together. Plan on spending many hours here. We were at this museum in the morning, took a break for lunch (keep your receipt to get back in), and continued to the next floor for another hour. If you enjoy museums, I feel this one should be on your "Must See" list.
After living in a small Texas town the past year and visiting other small towns and their "museums" I wasn't about to get my hopes up on this one. I was pleasantly surprised when me and my 5 year old walked into PPH. This museum has so much to see. I love museums and will read everything if I have my way but being with my child, he led the way and he found plenty to keep his attention. We were there just under 5 hours. It's not just a history museum. It's history, art, pop culture all rolled into one. It really has a great balance of subjects. Very glad we visited. Definitely making a point of coming again.
Nice museum. Larger than thought. Texas history. Worth a visit.
Lots to look at. Broken up into several, different themes. We especially liked the section with all the early texas history rooms.
Extraordinary museum with great staff and a good history of Texas.
So much to do and see. Well worth the visit
Wonderful exibits, spent three hours learning about Texas Plains settlement.
I love this museum. It recently has become more interactive which is amazing. They are constantly changing and adding to provide more information and displays. I take my 2 year old here every couple of months and it's always an adventure! I highly recommend making this a stop of you're visiting!!
Surprisingly broad collection. Well maintained.
Don't miss the prairie town. So cute! Fantastic art too.
I travel a lot and when I found out my college had a historical museum I was not expecting it to be the largest in the entire state of Texas. Excellent exhibits, highly recommend the petroleum one.
I loved everything is the museum. Ever corner I looked at, I wondered.
It was an awesome place I will definitely recommend it to anyone that ask me about a historical museum. My son,me, and my parents went an had a great time.
It was great
This museum is a gem, it beats museums in big cities like Houston. YOU HAVE TO GO. It's closed on Sunday and Monday, so plan accordingly.
Has some really interesting exhibits and a great firearms collection
An incredible collection, a must if you are in Canyon Texas.
Missed some exhibitions that were gone but loved the art gallery & automobiles!
Loved this museum. Especially enjoyed the special RCA to Apple exhibit. The Pioneer Exhibit was also fun. Tjey also had an in-depth exhibit about oil and gas and had a collection of windmills.
Awesome place to visit. So many exhibits to see. If you are ever in Canyon Texas, do not leave without going to this museum. One night a year for 3 hours, which is in June, they turn out the lights and hold a "Night at the Museum". I have been going to this event for years. Never have been disappointed. The kids love this event because they get to bring their flashlights and tour through certain areas of the museum in the dark.
This museum is awesome. Plan to spend a lot of time here to get the full experience.
Great to see what the ol west was about
One of the best history museums in existence
Panhandle–Plains Historical Museum is a history museum on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, U.S.A., a small city south of Amarillo. The museum's contents are owned and controlled by the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society, while West Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University Board of Regents maintains and provides the facilities. Panhandle–Plains Historical Museum claims to be the largest history museum in the state of Texas with 70,000 visitors annually and more than three million artifacts.
I came here a long time ago when my neice could take a picture in the little toy car, she's 16 at press time, and I'm happy to see that while its been updated, it still has most of the charm it did back then and even older then the aforementioned niece visit. Great museum and don't forget to download the app.
GREAT EXPERIENCE.REALLY INVOLVED WITH WTAMU.AWESOME.
What a pleasant surprise! This is a must see when you are in Canyon. Prehistoric to present day, the exhibits are excellent. There is so much to see, and it is so well exhibited, the time flies by. We only got to the first floor, so need to go back another day to see the section on oil drilling history. I am trying to pick a favorite section, but can't seem to do it. Maybe the blacksmith, or the old cars, or maybe the ancient bones, or clothing styles, the old bar, the windmills, geology,...Sorry can't do it. You'll have to see it for yourself. Have fun!
No place to park for blocks. Price went up. Pioneer town was the best part. Very small gift shop.
Wonderful place to being the kiddos and let them run wild while learning a few things. This place covers the Precambrian period all the way up to the cowboys and pioneer of the area. Price can't be beat and the AC feels good after going to the Palo duro canyon. Staff was friendly and kind.
Largest museum in Texas, this building is 5 floors of Texas Panhandle/Plains history. Excellent collection of fossils and complete dinosaur skeletons. Detailed documentation of life evolution and migration in the area. Fine collections of classic cars, farm implements and oil field drilling equipment just add to the experience. Plan on spending several hours here... definitely worth the visit.
Loved it all around, although staff seemed a bit unfriendly and impolite. Possibly abad day, the museum itself is amazing!
This is a totally AWESOME place! If you like HISTORY, they have tons of it. If you like art, THIS IS WHERE GEORGIA O'KEEF LIVED, for a chunk. If you are interested in the OIL FIELD---This is the place! Wear comfortable shoes, you are going to be HERE A WHILE!!!
Spent two hours here. Really interesting and extensive collection. Not crowded, easy parking, free entry. Great place to take a break after walking the canyon.
Very informative and entertaining!
Great place to visit. Plan to return with friends.
A great museum in Canyon Texas.
This place is great, I only had two hours and it was not enough time to enjoy everything. I recommend surrending at least three hours of you want to take everything in.
The most impressive museum I've seen in years! I thought I'd just drop in for a quick half-hour. I was so wrong! This museum is 3 levels and quite extensive. Including mexican, texan, new Mexican, Italian artifacts and more! I could have easily spent 3 or 4 hours here but you can also go at your own pace and finish your tour more quickly.
Lots of interesting exebits.
Lots of interesting things to see . I try to go every few years.
I grew up visiting this museum, carried from exhibit to exhibit by my extremely patient father who, I now realize, enjoyed it as much as I did. My husband and I now bring our own children here when we visit my hometown, and again, my father carries them from exhibit to exhibit, reading and explaining to them. This museum has something for everyone--science in the form of the windmill, oil and gas, and dinosaur and early animal exhibits. There are social sciences in the form of the pioneer town, the WWI, and the automobile exhibits, not to mention well-curated collections of textiles, firearms, and other revolving displays. It is absolutely engaging for a child as young as 2, but also captivating for the adult who has been visiting this museum her whole life. There is a wealth of Texas Panhandle-relevant information here. It is a treasure and well worth a day trip if you're anywhere near.
Had a great breakfast...
Amazing place, huge amounts of information.
Very. Good museum. Love the old Town exhibit. Fossils to recent day exhibits. Firearms from past wars. Early automobiles and windmills. Something for everyone.
We are members and enjoy each and every visit! Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is ever changing in its displays and interesting artifacts while keeping the displays we know and love. Being a member allows us to bring out-of-town guests that are always amazed at the enormity of our museum and the hard work it must take to keep it interesting and BEAUTIFUL!
This Museum is awesome! The volunteers and cleaning staff are very helpful.
Awesome museum with detailed history of the area. It exhibits the oil industry of the panhandle as well as the fossils and minerals discovered in this ancient land. The art exhibited was great lots of Texas pieces. The guard on duty was very helpful. I personally liked the automobile exhibit with a 1900's electric car was very interesting. My wife and really enjoyed all of the Native American artifacts and how the bison was the most valuable resource for the plains people.
Beautiful, comprehensive, and well-organized museum. Tons for kids to do too, kept our 3 and 6 year old occupied for 2 hours! Don't pass this gem up!
It's a large museum and you need at least half day to go through it. The stuff are friendly.
Our Grandson took us here and we had a blast! Loved the interesting exhibits!
So much history presented in great stories
My son had a school field trip and the staff did a great job of keeping them entertained
My favorite museum in the panhandle. My family and I try to visit as much as possible and we always learn something new.
We have so much fun coming here! There is so much information here about the area. Our kids love it. You definitely need an entire day to see everything in the museum! The museum has everything from dinosaur fossils to modern oil industry infrastructure, to art of the south west and plains states. This is a must see if you're in the area! Don't miss out!
PPHM always has something for everyone. Be fair warned though, you're going to see some of the best exhibits for 1,000 miles. It's going to make other museums a little more disappointing.
Very interesting lot of history. Be prepared to spend a FULL day.
So great!! My favorite thing is how interactive it is, all of the drawers and buttons. I could have spent so much longer there. Only thing I really need to say is: PLEASE put a warning sign on the first video (of carving a buffalo). That was cool, but definitely would have wanted a warning, especially for children. Good job overall, highly recommend!
Very nice museum. Very interesting collection of fossils from the Texas Panhandle. The room that explained how the windmill opened the great american desert to crops and farming was very good.
Definitely the Smithsonian of Texas. Every turn there was something to see. Loved the oil and Indian exhibits. The kids could not believe how simple life.
I really enjoyed visiting the Panhandle Plains Historical museum. The western village area was a particular highlight for me, as well as their collection of weapons from both southwestern history, as well as a number of more recent wars. Overall a very well done museum, although I was slightly disappointed that part of their Geology exhibit was out of order when I visited.
Lots to see. A lot of variation and tons to learn.
Cost way to much for a museum WOW!
Very informative. The village was amazing!
The firearms gallery is incredible. I spent 3 hours in it alone.
Great museum. One of the best for Texas history.
A little of everything. Enjoyed the self tour. We need handicapped parking and had to park in back and walk around to front. We were told after we got in that we could've entered back door, alarm would've sounded, and it would've been ok. When we suggested they have handicapped at least at side street where museum visitors parking is, they said they had no control over that.
So if you give not visit this museum they have really put a lot of effort into showing off the history of the panhandle! so many local people have donated to this museum to really make it fantastic! Definitely a must visit whether you're passing through or live in the area
This place is one of the coolest places I've been to, it has old cars, dinosaur bones, guns, art, and even a Pioneer town! There is a little bit of something for everyone, we loved it! There are 3 floors all together, including the basement. Wear comfortable shoes and expect to be there a few hours to see everything, it wasn't very expensive; $10 for an adult. Definitely worth the trip!
One of the best
Incredible displays of art, etc.
Panhandle-plains museum is a real nice place to learn the history and how people lived in the area as it developed. Very nice extensive display of native American clothing in history. They even have a section of old cars, oil well Riggs old as well as how they do it today. Tottori this museum well take one to two hours.
A great experience for kids.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people have not been here it's a really really good Museum and you really should go
The Pioneer Town is a FABULOUS reproduction of buildings, tools, goods and everything else you would find in a West Texas town in the 1880's to early 1900's. The artwork in the three galleries upstairs may not have world famous artists' art work on the walls but it too represents beautiful pieces of cowboys, Texas and some work from around the world in the Foran gallery.
This is got to be the most incredible Museum to visit in a wonderful small town of Canyon Texas. The staff is very accommodating and always prepare to show you around. I highly recommend stopping by
Lots of panhandle history and it is the biggest museum ever. It is huge...
One of Texas' greatest museums! This is a must-see when visiting the Amarillo-Canyon area. Priority #1
A lot to see! Even kept our 1-year-old fairly entertained for an hour or so. A little expensive but still a fun experience.
Great for history and genuine artefacts from the wild west and the American Indians. Lots of prehistoric fossils also.
I had a really great experience. Some very interesting and educational history. From the old west to prehistoric, loved all of it.
It is so Fun to see
It was a surprise and real pleasure to visit this large museum on the llano estacado. From pre-history to present day, the museum has interesting and insightful exhibits. We were there for 6 hours and could have easily spent another day.
What a diverse and quiet experience. The museum was all but empty though. So much to see, you can easily spend a few hours here and I would recommend it. Groupon can save you a few bucks but it's not expensive to get in otherwise. Friendly security guards, and front desk staff.
Lot of artifacts. Very intresting
Fascinating museum, beautifully maintained.
class act museum. I wish the young college guy selling tickets had some of that class.
Museum was first class, clean and an excellent depiction as intended BUT the reason for NOT going all the way to 5 stars is lack of parking. Older visitors, as myself, find it difficult to drive around forever try to find parking, then walk any distance to the building.
Great place to spend a couple of hours and also near a very good restaurant. Restaurant green chili Willies.
Very educational and fun time! The facility is well organized and there are many things to see. We were there for over three hours and we still didn't catch everything!
One of the best museums I’ve visited. There is a reason it’s been voted as the best museum in the southwestern US. You will not be disappointed!
Interesting place. Lot of history.
Extensive collection of artifacts. Fossils, and bones from thousands of years ago. Ranching artifacts from 1800s. Takes hours to see it all.
Good service, very interactive, and we ploved it
Great museum - Wonderful Telling Of Local history - Eeven had a Historical street.
So much to see. Great historical artifacts and information! Highly recommend....it'll take a couple hours to really see everything but totally worth it!
Great place to take the family
Lots of historic artifacts
Huge museum that you could spend all day at. Very cool exhibits and friendly personnel!
Amazing place. Such a wonderful day. Thought we would spend a few hours as a break from the rain while tent camping. Ended up staying 6 1/2 hours. Best museum I have ever been to.
Love this place visit every time we come down
If you love history... this is the place for you
I was impressed by the size of this museum. Some of exhibits were really interesting like the guns or paleontology displays. However, strange items would end up in places dirupting the flow of the exhibits. For instance, there was a pistol from the 1950s in an case about hunting in the plains. Just skip the pop culture exhibit. Its really just some pictures on a wall with little to actually learn.
Very informative with many interesting displays and exhibits. It is worth the time. $3 entry fee.
A world class museum, awesome staff, unforgettable.
Very nice - went with a school class and took a tour - guide was very informative and let the kids go on a scavenger hunt of their choice - lots of cool historical artifacts - not enough time to see it all
So I under estimated this museum and was surprised by how huge it is. Plan two days for this place! Super fun and keeps your interest.
The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is one of the best museums that I have ever visited. I was there for over 4 hours and could have stayed longer had time permitted. If you are in the Amarillo/Canyon area, this is a must see.
This is a great get to have in canyon!
Out standing. Could take two days to see everything
Unique museum. Not your average part time operation. They are tied into WTAMU on campus.
Great information on the panhandle and plains of Tx. Very informative !!!!
While in Hereford, Texas for a class reunion (a distance of 25 miles or so away), we drove over to Canyon on Saturday afternoon to visit the Panhandle Plains Museum. It had been decades since I had been there, and it had greatly changed. The fossils found in nearby counties were all very interesting, and we loved the exhibits of the windmills. Very nice museum and worth the drive!
The museum is huge for a town the size of Canyon TX, and has a ton of stuff to go through. If you actually take the time to look at everything, it will be several hours of exhibits and galleries.
Knowledgable staff that is helpful, yet not domineering. Very educational
I am always impressed with this museum and the history of our region.
The museum appears to be part of West Texas A&M university. Parking was a little challenging with an RV pulling s car but we found a spot on the street. The museum was nice and clean. It’s a nice museum of the history of the panhandle. Lots of emphasis on oil and drilling. Neat exhibit on guns. Interesting Indian artifacts and exhibits.
Nice museum, good collections, good mix of themes, nice facility
This place was incredible honestly i didn't spend enough time in that place but I'm hoping to go again. The exhibits are fantastic and realistic along with all of the cool activities you're able to do.
Amazing place. Amazing time in a true western museum. Just a wonderful place to look at authentic items relating to the ranches and farms in the panhandle. A really nice place. Good for all ages.
Great museum staff was courteous and informative.
Wonderful experience. I have not been here since I was a child, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely recommend this activity.
Amazing museum about the local history in that area between natives and cowboys. But also the museum has oil history, pop culture, aeronautical and aerospace history, some classic art and contemporaneous history and culture!! They have a DeLorean :) I enjoyed. I paid 12 usd to get in on Friday around 10 am. But if you go after 3 on Friday is for free. They have special prices for veterans, kids and students from the college and a souvenir shop and a exclusive parking lot for visitors.
Dinosaurs to modern times...great exhibits.
Saw some really great old cars and oilfield equipment
Simply outstanding. There are over 2 million artifacts curated here. Well worth the price of admission. If you are near Canyon, TX. do yourself a favor and go
Soo mucg more knowledge about rocks
Great history of the Panhandle plains of Texas. Informative, educational very well done
Large detailed museum, very informative and hugely entertaining . Attractive displays, great for the whole family.
Interesting and informative about the history of the Texas panhandle
This isn't the biggest museum, but there is plenty to see and learn, and it's got some nice permanent installations and interesting temporary exhibits.
