This was the perfect place for our son's Rehearsal Dinner! The venue is beautiful, educational and spacious. We were able to rehearse outside, (huge yard, and many different approaches to choose from)and then hold the dinner for 40 inside their amazing museum. Our Event Manager, Andrea Perry, was so wonderful to work with; she is organized, thinks on her feet, (we had a last minute problem with the bartender we hired to cater - she handled it) and was my favorite vendor to work with out of all the companies hired to help with the wedding. Go here! It's affordable, is for a great non-profit cause, and beautiful.

Caught it on a free day and I'm glad we did as it was worth visiting at that price. Parking is limited so going on Sunday saved some walking. While it's old, built in 1850, it's history isn't special, nor are the furnishings which are a cobbled together collection of antiques which for the most part are independent of prior occupants. So if you love old houses and antiques for their own sake this is a worthwhile visit, otherwise there are better places to spend your time.

We went to see the 19th century quilts which were wonderful. The house itself, built in 1850, was interesting as was one of the old outside kitchen.

This museum is small, but packed with interesting history. Within its walls, it gives a visitor a glimpse of early life in Austin through the stories and possessions of the house's various owners. Though the house itself is well maintained and the exhibits thoughtfully constructed, a lack of explanatory material pertaining to individual items limited my enjoyment of my visit here. Also, the gift shop is EXTREMELY overpriced.

They've done a great job of preserving a time period in this house. You are able to get a very close look at household items from a century ago and read about the goings on at the times. The staff are really nice as well.

beautiful historic home. lots of original furniture

Very good example of how life was back in 19th Century Capitol city of Texas. The focus is on local history and families that owned this old house. Friendly staff and food truck parked at the lot and outdoor seating in the beautiful garden made our day. There seems to be a cafe in the back yard soon. I would say, check out this gem in the city.

Cool antiques, my girl loves the fancy stuff here.

We are new to Austin so I decide to do a little sightseeing. This is one of the oldest houses in Austin and it is pretty cool. They give 2 hours on the weekend for a small donation. This house is 1 of the old 4² style houses with 2 rooms in front and 2 rooms and back and also has a second floor. I would recommend people go to see it if they want to get out and see something different

Wonderful grounds and lots of history as it pertains to the area. The house is well taken care for and just kinda takes you to different place in time..

Amazing tour! The house is full of colorful history and interesting architectural details. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and went through what Austin was like at the time the house was built, the various homeowners and condition of the house during their ownership, as well as all the interesting architectural details of the home. I definitely recommend this tour!

The house is nice enough, and somewhat interesting. And It's not terribly pricey---a very reasonable $4 for the senior price, which I qualified for by a matter of days. But is not set in all the same historic decade, so you might be misled if you're not paying attention. And there's ALOT of reading if you want to know what you're looking at. Also, we were looking forward to the historic quilts that were a special display. There were 5---yes 5 whole quilts in the display. Granted, they were dated, but there wasn't additional information nor a back story. Maybe they don't know....anyway, it's a bit of a disappointment.

Amazing place in Austin. Amazing staff.

A great place to visit, it provides a glimpse of Austin's wonderful history. So many structures are being forgotten and left to ruin. At various times of month there could be a special presentation. This month was quilts of the past and folk painting. Both great to see. Can make an arrangement for a personal tour through history.

An interesting place to poke around in. Note: the parking lot is behind the building, but they expect you to enter the front. We tried several times and finally found the bell at the back door. The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions.

Free parking in the back, can’t believe it coz’ usually parking on downtown is an issue. There was a super knowable girl in charge the museum that answer all my questions. Museum was clean and open on Sundays. The history of the house is very interesting and well preserved, they even illustrate the kind of food they used to have.

Lovely historical place, there is so much to see here. We will come back to visit.
