It is a nice museum, but be aware that THE OUTSIDE CLOSES AT 4pm; the inside stays open until 5. Now, I know all of y'all go there to see the tiny inside portion, but not we, and we're disappointed when we got there at a quarter to 4 to find out they close the outside at 4. We are from Oklahoma, so we aren't here for a long time, and we were disappointed to find out the real hours. The guy at the desk laughed at us about it.

What a great way to experience history! My 7 & 3 year old sons enjoyed seeing and hearing about all the buildings and artifacts and how they fit into our history. It was nice that it was outside and they could move around instead of being in a stuffy building.

K Northcutt

Seeing through actual historical buildings how ranching came to exist in TX gives a fair idea of the living conditions of those pioneer ranchers... The carriages and lever action rifles collections are quite nice too.

Your website & tv ad said Junior Rough Rider event was this weekend Oct 21st. We had three excited kids with us when upon arrival at Tech they told us it is next weekend Oct 28th. In a city as large as Lubbock you would think dates would be correct on the Ranching Heritage website & on tv ads!

Neal Ashby

As a midwesterner, I had no idea what to expect from this center. We were blown a way and spent half a day there exploring everything. They have done an exceptional job of creating a chronological history of the west. The buildings give a realistic feeling of what life was like for early ranchers. Great family venue for all ages.

Great family spot, very festive!

There's so much history to see and learn about here. Outside, there are real farm buildings filled with time accurate furniture, tools, etc. Inside, there are smaller and more weather sensitive items on display with descriptions as well as written historical information. Related paintings and sculptures can also be found inside. As a historical museum, this is one of the biggest and best I've ever seen. Everything is extremely well maintained and there's so much to see that it takes a few hours to get though. I really can't believe it's free.

Samantha Hyatt

Awesome place for family had an event this Saturday, and they rocked letting us do this.

A really good place to take the family for an afternoon walk. The museum is almost completely outdoors. So bring screen, good shoes and some sunglasses because you will be doing quite a bit of walking. Excellent for a history fan wanting to see how the area developed over time! Really cool place to check out. And better yet - it's free admission!

Deb S

If you like old ranch buildings this place has them. Everything from the late 1700's to early 1900's. The only thing I wished was that you could go inside them. There aren't any you can enter, however, you can look into the majority of the windows and see the inside. Everything is outside on paved paths, we walked around 2.5 miles. Inside there is art exhibits and Indian artifacts. Susan Jones(?) was wonderful she gave us a brief history of the area and some history of one of the artists and his drawings.

Anna Luera

Pretty cool place to walk around and sight see

laci gourdon

Loved it Beautiful buildings and lots of jackrabbits.

This is a hidden gem on the Texas Tech Campus. Experience the authentic history of the evolution of ranching in West Texas. There's more buildings than you can count on this property that offer a glimpse into ranching's heritage. This is a fun weekend trip or go to one of the many special events they offer.

Paula Brooks

If you have not been here you are missing out on a treat. If you like history this is a fun place to be able to look into the past and see how differently people lived through the years since the area was settled. They have a event every December called The Candlelight Walk that should be a part of...

Very educational for both adults and children! All staff there are very helpful and friendly. In addition, there is an App you can download, and you can do a self-tour at the heritage center.

Gary Moyers

If you've not visited here yet, you're missing one of the most amazing places in Lubbock. This is history come to life. Be sure and not miss the Christmas event, Candlelight at the Ranch, every year. This place deserves a 6th star.

Garrett Ferguson

I thought this was an awesome place that talked about the history of the area. Highly recommend.

Charlie Middleton

The National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock is a great place for family outings. The facilities and the grounds are very well maintained and the events hosted at the NRHC are second to none. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable, and the ranch dwellings and structures are fascinating. The NRHC is well suited for kids and adults. The new APP that was recently released is full of information and will take you on a self guided tour. If you are in Lubbock for a meeting, football game, or family get together, you should consider taking a tour through the NRHC.

Matt Woodfin

Great place for a relaxing walk.

My favorite thing they do is around Christmas time. They do a candlelight walk thru the whole outside. Its lit up and in each house they have characters acting out what it was like to live in the era. Very nice to bring the kids and reflect on history. Also they have a live band and hot coco and hot apple cider to keep warm. I enjoy it have been going the past 2 years now.

Fairly cool place. One trip is sufficient, however. It's not usually busy. Just stay away during the holiday light show. Way too many people wandering aimlessly in the darkness. EDIT: After visiting several more times, because there's nothing else to do in Lubbock, I stand behind my four star review. This place really is pretty cool. Plenty of neat exhibits and a great gift shop as well. I forgot to mention the BEST PART. It's completely free to get in! Take the family here in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the sweltering heat.

We thought an hour or so here would be fun, instead we spent half a day and it was worth every minute of it. Being from the mid-west we had no clue about the history of ranching, now we do. They've done an amazing job of telling the story of western ranching.

Saurav Pantha

This national Ranching heritage center part of texas tech university provides outstanding buildings features back from 18th to mid 20th century with rail road depot, homesteads, barn, blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, windmills, and other historic structures.
