Attended a private event there and everything was magnificent - location, food, drinks!
Beautiful museum with some great exhibits and permanent artworks!
This is a wonderful Museum in the Heart of Dallas on the SMU campus. It has marvelous Spanish art works as well as most recently a Dali exhibit which literally took my breath away. If you get a chance just to take a short stroll through the museum as it is small you can see some gorgeous pictures and some lovely artifacts from around the Spanish world as well as special exhibits as offered.
Great museum fill with Spanish art. Not so enormous you can't see it all. Cute gift shop.
Great collection of Spanish art. Thursday evening free entry till 9pm
(Translated by Google) It's a hidden treasure in Dallas. Thanks to the generosity of people who know how to use their money, we can enjoy exhibitions worldwide. May God bless all those people. I especially love ... I think he does not get as much publicity as he should. I have visited it for many years, and it is truly fantastic. I would like everyone to visit him. Que Dios bendiga a todas esas personas. A mi especialmente me fascina.. Creo que no recibe tanta publicidad como debería. Yo tengo muchos años visitamdolo, y es verdaderamente fantástico. Quisiera que todo el mundo lo visitara.
We saw art by Salvador Dali here. The selection was fantastic. You could tell the artwork had been displayed with care. The rooms flowed together nicely. This was an incredible display and we enjoyed it immensely. Prices were very affordable. Parking was a little hard to come by, but you kind of expect that at a college campus.
Great El Greco exhibit
Great find! It's part of the SMU campus and it's the largest Spanish museum in the country...second only to Madrid. Paintings and sculptures inside and out. The garage parking is free with validated ticket. #Calatrava #Picasso #DiegoRivera
We were both surprised at multiple aspects of our visit: 1) the number of pieces 2) the number of movements and chronological eras represented. 3) the beauty of the building itself 4) How EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE the staff was. This includes the security guards that helped us find our way to the tour and to the elevator and the cleaning staff that acknowledged us on the the way out. Above all else we were blown away by how intelligent and thorough our docent Kathrine was. A must visit.
Awesome, why was no one there! There is parking in their lot, but I parked a few blocks away on the street. Nice walk through rich neighborhoods and the SMU campus. World class art collection with lots of nice pieces. Spanish art from all periods. Edit: they validate parking. I didn’t even ask!
Enjoying it like old home....
Great place for fast food, renovated kids play station, service customer is excellent.
Lovely little place. We visited for the Salvador Dali exhibit, but there is so much more here. Really enjoyed our visit!
Fantastic intro to the arts.
The Dali exhibit was out of this world! I'm so glad I was able to see this collection. I loved the gift shop too, great pieces to buy for friends and family.
Some beautiful art pieces here. Not the biggest selection in the world but definitely worth admission. If you're in town, this is a must visit.
Fantastic art museum on SMU's campus. They have a wonderful collection of Spanish artists and even a few Picasso sketches when we were there.
Great dali exhibit right now, love this museum.
I love the sculptures in this museum. There are also a lot of other things to see. The place is relaxing and the staffs are nice and friendly. I will definitely visit again.
Meadows Museum boasts an extensive collection of Spanish art spanning centuries of master works. The museum is smaller than expected and consequently very manageable. Free to students, it is a great resource for the community.
My favorite painters all in one place. Is free on Thursday nights!
Came here to see the Dalí pieces (which is extrended into January). We somehow always have a hard time finding the parking garage, but other than that I enjoy coming to Meadows Museum. The grounds are also very enjoyable to walk, there are beautiful sculptures and trees to look at!
This place is very beautiful. I am a fan of history and art that’s why I was so happy when I visited this place. There are a lot of artworks and exhibits to see.
Great place
It was an amazing experience with family. Suggestion: put some Da Vinci pieces! Definitely reccomend.
The Dalí exhibit shouldn't be missed!
Excellent museum with free entrance. Sight seeing must in Dallas. Parking is easy.
Wonderful exhibition
Nice little museum in SMU Campus. They have some permanent and some on going works of art to display. On the entrance theres this sculpture made with iron of a huge face with closed eye caught my immediate attention. It has a nice lawn with sculptures and a little fountain.Must see!
Saw the Dali exhibit, almost missed the actual exhibit because we didn't go upstairs and thought the lithographs downstairs we're the whole thing. The Museum is much larger than I remember, it's been expanded a lot. Dress in layers, the upper portion can get quite warm
Great Spanish Art!
Very nice gallery for Spanish art
We attended a tour guided by Howard this evening and were quite impressed by his knowledge about Spanish paintings and history. The tour lasted one hour and the admission is free after 5p on Thursday.
Favorite museum in the DFW area. Very intimate
Ive been here for a few teacher inservices and to see the Salvador Dali exhibit. Ive brought students here for a tour as well. Such knowledgeable staff and volunteers, will be back for sure.
Great place to go for quiet contemplation of great art.
This is an incredible collection of Spanish art. It is a smaller collection compared to the DMA, but still very beautiful. The museum campus is located across the street from Perkins Chapel on the SMU campus, and is very pretty. There is little parking, so walk, bike, or Uber/Lyft.
Wonderful Dali exhibit this fall.
Loved the visit. Found an out-of-the-ordinary internationally famous artist's painting, Esteban Vicente. Hard to find! Overall exhibits, outstanding!!!!
Really nice European art collection! It is one of the best museums to go to. It is located within the Southern Methodist University (SMU) campus.
Beautiful setup
Gorgeous collection of Spanish art! I really enjoyed this gem of a museum.
A little Del Prado Museum. Nice, there is a Goya, Velazquez and Picasso and Dali paints.
If you haven’t been...shame on you.
What is to learn here?
My parents live in Scottsdale and I always have to have breakfast here at least once whenever I visit.
You can't beat a free thing to do on Thursdays. They have some amazing art to experience.
Beautiful. I love the Goya drawings.
Fun evening. Good docent tours
Awsome place for those who admire beauty in painting and have intrest in exploring art .
The Salvador Dali exhibit was fantastic
Amazing
Convenient parking right under the building. Open floor plan makes wheelchairs and strollers easily acessible. Unique art and architecture throughout the museum. Will visit again.
This is a hidden gem! I always take advantage of its complimentary admission on Thursday after 5:00 PM (they close at 9:00 PM) - and the parking is free for Museum visitors!!! ~Thoughts become things, so choose the good ones.
Great Museum...
The very best museum in the US for Spanish art. It is big enough to have many spectacular pieces, but small enough to not feel overwhelmed. The staff is knowledge and incredibly helpful. Their special exhibits are some of the best in the US.
World class Museum very interesting got to see some Picasso's and dollies great place Thursday nights are free until 8 I must go see if you love museums
Amazing Spanish art.
Recently attended the Salvador Dali exhibit , small paintings, powerful content. Enjoyed looking at the art, close up ,discovering details, aided by excellent labels and the video magnification that revealed almost invisible parts of the paintings.
Old man security guard followed me through the entire museum and kept lingering around me so it was hard to concentrate or focus on the art. There were a few groups of other visitors scattered throughout but he paid little attention to them and consistently kept following and staring at me. It was very creepy and I never want to go back.
Very interesting! I'm familiar with the Italian, Dutch, and French masters, but was surprised with the excellent Spanish painters. Beautiful work.
This is a great Museum! It has Spanish art works also a Dali exhibit at the moment. If you get a chance just to stop by the museum and take a walk, as it is small you can see some interesting pictures and artifacts from around the Spanish world as well as special exhibits. Great experience!.
I visited Meadows Museum at SMU for the first time last month. I was pleasantly surprised at not only how much I enjoyed the museum but also the beauty of the campus. Plan ahead and visit when they also have free lectures or musical entertainment. They stay open late on Thursdays and also plan time to walk around and enjoy the beautiful campus and the sculptures throughout.
I love the art and the presentation in this incredable museum Don't miss it
(Translated by Google) Extraordinary place to recreate with the history embodied in beautiful Iberian works of art. Beautiful and well maintained interior and exterior spaces. An ode to philanthropy personified in Madame Meadows. (Original) Extraordinario lugar para recrearse con la historia plasmada en preciosas obras de arte ibéricas. Hermosos y bien cuidados espacios interiores y exteriores. Una oda a la filantropía personificada en Madame Meadows.
A surprise gem located on the SMU campus. First off, I knew about the Bush library, but had no idea this museum existed....of course you have some classics, but the artists featured here are pretty incredible. I was surprised to see artwork that I had only seen in art history books actually adorning the walls here in this beautiful museum.
Beautiful place!
Brilliant museum.
The Salvador Dali collection was amazing.
Awesome! Inclusion is the name of the game! Open to all. Was recently at an event for the blind and visually impaired. Docents were knowledgeable and engaging.
A cute museum in the heart of SMU
Though characteristically religious as would be expected, a lot of existentialism is the more predominant theme, along with some very large paintings that you have likely seen before, including massive paneled artwork which is less common. Some of the rooms were less impressive, and the vast majority of the bottom half of the building is intended as conference rooms , and even ones that weren't, the walls were bare or blocked off. At the SMU campus, on weekends you are allowed to park on the side of the museum during the day without any special parking requirements (however I did spot a vehicle that had a citation, and perhaps it was because they had left it parked there overnight?) Overall it's some excellent artwork that demonstrates some excellent representations of the subject matter, and the location is very quiet, so it is probably worthwhile to those hoping to avoid more crowded places such as other museums around Dallas (which are also usually free.)
The only place in Dallas where you can find such a vast collection of old, Spanish works. The Dali exhibits were also great.
Great museum! Lots of fun for my whole family.
The Meadows Museum is such a stunning, elegant and perfectly located event space as well as art museum! My husband and I had our wedding reception at Meadows April 2019 and it blew us away!! The Great Jones Hall and the Founders Room are connected by a gorgeous marble walk-way. Our guests were enchanted by the world class art work and gold chandeliers in Jones Hall where we had cocktail tables, bar, a main cake and dessert table, and our jazz band! Our 200 guests were able to mingle in Jones Hall and move over to the Founders Room to sit and enjoy the time with family and friends. After the wedding SO many of our guests kept telling us they were not sure if they were at our wedding or cast in a movie as they entered Meadows for the reception. The staff at Meadows is beyond capable and helpful. They made sure we were taken care of from begging to end, no worries only joy. I am thrilled to be able to say we spent our first few hours as a married couple celebrating in such a glorious venue! Thank you Meadows!
We purchased a membership for the family very nice place to relax take time and walk through the exhibits
Very nice collection. Enjoyed the Dali exhibit.
The Meadows is a great place to go to see art from artists all over the globe, but mostly Spanish as that's the majority of the collection. It's very convenient on the SMU campus, and free for students which is great for something to do on a budget. I love coming and seeing the new collections on display whenever possible, and they have great small cultural events all the time for students and the general public alike. Also it's usually not too crowded, so you can take your time looking at the pieces without feeling cramped!
A larger exhibit space than I expected. They focus on Spanish artists which is interesting. The space is lovely, the Dali exhibit we saw was nicely curated. Don't miss the art outside. They do not have a secure coat/bag check so consider leaving laptops etc at home.
Very nice exhibits
Very nice!
An impressive collection of primarily Spanish Art (from the original Algur H. Meadows bequest) with other excellent additions and periodic special Exhibitions. As a 1981 graduate of SMU, I had walked through the much smaller Meadows Museum when it was located within the Fine Arts building located on the East side of Bishop Blvd. The new building (completed in 2001) located on the West side of Bishop Blvd., is a beautiful facility in which to display the Museum’s remarkable art collection.
My wife and I were in the Dallas area for a week and we visited various museums, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Kimbell, the Amon Carter, and the Meadows. The Meadows was the only museum that charged a fee and it was by far the least enjoyable. First and least important perhaps, there is extensive campus construction going on and no one could tell us where the parking lot was at, took us well over 20 minutes to find it. More importantly the collection, while advertised as extensive, was nothing of the sort, essentially one wing with limited paintings. And to add icing on the cake, during the hour or so we were there two guards followed us from room to room like we were crooks or pray. They might have been bored as there was no one there but us. Nonetheless my wife and I felt very awkward and just left, a waste of $16. We do not recommend this museum.
Wonderful art work but go on your own, the school tours are informational but only allow time to really see 5 paintings
It is a very interesting place. It is a privilege to be able to see such a captivating collection of Spanish art in a same location.
Great expos. Thursdays are free
Love the Spanish Art
This is a very nice museum in Dallas within walking distance from the George W Bush Presidential Library. It hosts the largest collection of Spanish art outside of Spain. Really nice and peaceful museum covering 2000 years of Spanish art. I really recommend it.
This art museum is definitely a hidden gem in Dallas! I really enjoyed my visit. It was also nice that they give student discounts with your student ID. The art is beautiful and there are so many pieces that you could spend hours in front of. I really enjoyed the vast amount of religious art and Spanish art. Easy parking was a plus too. Definitely visit this museum. It’s a must!
Connections and Re-Connections
This is a gem of a collection of Spanish art inside an impeccably curated museum, on the grounds of a beautiful University. Highly recommend! If you're a student, you get a heavy discount, so don't forget your ID!
Saw the Dali exhibit and loved it!
The focus of this museum is on art from Spain. Visitors are treated to works of art throughout the history of Spain, from the Middle Ages to the present. The museum isn't enormous, but the works of art which are present are some of the finest that the world possesses. There are two primary galleries and both of these are on the second floor. In each of these galleries, there is a mixture of works of art throughout Spanish history. This is a bit odd; I would think one gallery should focus on older art while the other focus on contemporary art. So to me, the chronology doesn't make sense. But having said that, the overall experience is transcendent. HIGHLY recommended.
Impeccable
(Translated by Google) I was very surprised by the artistic wealth that this museum has. It is the museum that has more works by Spanish artists in the world, outside of Spain. Highly recommended (Original) Me ha sorprendido mucho la riqueza artística que tiene este museo. Es el museo que posee más obras de artistas españoles en el mundo, fuera de España. Muy recomendable
Caught the tail end of the Dali exhibit, water movement installation out front is well done.
Fun
One of the best small museums in the country. It was the largest collection of Spanish art outside Spain.
great museum, loved the family friendly day and the art is amazingly beautiful!!
Wonderful Dali exhibit Sept 2018 - Dec 2018.
Love it. What can I say
It's cool place . I like it. Come at Thursday , it close at 9pm. 周四来最好,开到晚上9点
Museum full of brilliant paintings including some by Goya. Always presenting new exhibits and makes for a great experience. On the campus of SMU. Set in lovely surroundings.
It's good place
Yes, I indeed went to this fine museum with a woman named Tammy Mangum in 1995. I had driven from Ruston to Shreveport to meet her for this our first date. Now, the museum has/had a very large beautiful painting of Jesus looking up into the heavens, surrounded by a few children. Jesus appeared to be feeling a great deal of pain and hope. Amen.
Lovely museum.
Great people explain the art and amazing art
The best selection of Spanish art in the United States. The staff are eager to share the impressive selection. It is a gem hidden on one of the most beautiful university campuses in Texas.
I enjoyed my visit in this museum. The place is clean and well-maintained. There are a lot of things to see and do. I recommend this place for all history fans out there.
A little boring. The exhibition from last year was a bit better. But it's always a good atmosphere.
I love this place!! Such beautiful pieces inside and a lovely gift shop.
Really enjoyed the Dali exhibit. Art guards could have done a better job keeping folks behind the lines.
The collections of work is beautiful!
fabulous building and high quality art. Wish it was a little bigger honestly!
Intimate Museum - Extraordinary Collection of Spanish Art - Fascinating Seminars - Free Admission on Thursday Nights - Presently, Outstanding Dali Exhibit extended till January 6th, 2019 :)))))
A surprising treasure trove of Spanish art. The sculpture garden is awesome even though it appears to be small. A serene place to hang out on a weekend morning.
They WILL kick you out at closing time on the dot. Be warned
A lovely museum on a lovely campus
Small, unique museum. Spanish art. Respectable collection of minor works, mostly paintings. Special exhibits are hit and miss. Guards are helpful rather than forbidding. Sculpture on the veranda. On a beautiful campus. Very easy to park in the garage, plenty of signage, short walk to door from the garage elevator.
Beautiful building.
On SMU campus, it's a really beautiful gallery
The dali exhibits are very good.
My first art museum experience , it was awesome. The ladies at the ticket counter were very nice. The gift shop is so cute.
Spectacular collection of Spanish art. Don't miss the Dali exhibit which closes January 6th!
Unexpected place to find an amazing collection of Spanish art!
Beautiful building with a nice collection of work.
The smokers is their best piece
Great exhibit of Dalí
Must see breathtaking art and my out of the country guests agree. A top 10 places to visit when in Dallas
The museum is not large, so don't expect a giant display but it definitely has an interesting collection and the staff do not hound you like many other museums these days. The only improvement I could suggest would be to hang some of the paintings a little lower or otherwise deflect the ceiling lights as, for shorter people like me, the glare from the lights reflects strongly off the paintings to the point where you have to stand over 10ft away and thus can't fully appreciate the detail in some of the pieces.
The Meadows Museum is a great place to visit. I recommend it.
Incredible collection of artwork, but the docent gave us wrong information when giving my class a tour of the Fortuny exhibit. It’s frustrating that folks without a background in art and art history had to take her word for it, and it makes me wonder how many of the museum’s docents are actually qualified.
Fantastic, this is the most underrated museum in Texas.
Fabulous collection of Spanish paintings and a treat to anyone who loves art. The staff were so nice, polite and helpful. Definitely a place to be visited whilst in Dallas. I spent a couple of hours and it was an unforgettable experience.
horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a pretty nice experience. Lot of beautiful Christian related Spanish art. One exhibit we were not allowed to take pictures and that was where they held the most beautiful art was housed.
Very good and staff was very helpful
Exceptional small museum.
I do love this place... Thursdays after 5:00 is totally free. They have the most beautiful art.
Great place to visit.
The artwork in the permanent collection is beautiful. Thursday evenings are free admission and a tour starts promptly at 6:30. I have always found the docents fairly knowledgeable of the works.
The museum features the best and largest Spanish arts. I won’t spoil the fun and tell you what’s inside but definitely worth a visit. If you haven’t been on the SMU campus, this is a perfect opportunity to visit both places.
Went to a lecture here. Beautiful facilities. Wish the doors in the lecture room weren't all glass, though. A bit spooky to see hoards of people every direction you look. It's distracting from the lecture. Please bring back Dr Alessandra Comini. Her lecture was amazing, as always!!!

Enjoyed the sites
