REVIEWS OF Frontier Texas! IN Texas

James Pelletier

Cool place! Worth the small entrance fee. Plenty of interactive displays and the pre/post theaters were entertaining and informative. The young lady (should have gotten her name) at the counter was GREAT too... She interacted with the family in front of us and really engaged the child. Very well done.

Paul White

Wonderful walk back in time for children and adults.

Brian Eagan

Beautiful grounds and visitors information center. Highly interactive history museum exhibit, with holographic narrator. Very cool. Digital Movie Theater in the round, 360 view, of being inside the wild west. Very clean facility. Knowledgeable visitors center staff. Wide variety of history books and items for sale.

James Wright

Ionia Froment

This place was awesome from the moment we arrived. This is not a stuffy museum for adults, but rather a really fun place for the entire family. The gift shop is loaded with cool stuff, including books, jewelry and keepsakes and the staff is superb. They are friendly and helpful and there to ensure that your family has a great time. I was impressed by all the work they had put into the various exhibits and they seem to genuinely love kids, which made this a wonderful experience for our little ones. They had an immersive experience with a video and sound effects and lots of things you can touch and interact with. All fees were reasonable and the parking options were good and didn't add any stress to an already lengthy trip. If you are interested in Native American culture, there are loads of things to see here as well as other exhibits that explain the history of the Frontier. This was a cool learning experience for my kids and one that they still talk about years later. We have many fond memories of this place and hope to be able to visit it again in the future to see what's new. It is definitely worth going to see.

Miles Selvidge

For what it was it is very well done and made very good use of resources and space. The layout was well done to facilitate either a quick or very detailed approach to the info. It's not the Smithsonian, but pretty impressive. We easily spent 2.5 hrs there.

What a great little surprise. Not being from this area it was a great way to find out the local history in a fun way. My kids ageing 6 &14 enjoyed The experience just as much as I did. They cost was very reasonable.

BE N

This is a deep travel back in time. A unique opportunity to discover the times where this part of Texas was the ultimate frontier. The travel starts with the initial inhabitants of this land. There is a nice collection of stone weapons. Then you can see the struggle of the first settlers and the sacrifice to develop this great state. At the end you have a interactive show really good. This is a place that needs to be visited.

Ryan Mann

Awesome place!!!!! I have always been a Museum junkie, I'll go to just about any museum! Especially museums about Texas history. They covered a lot pretty quick, everything from, the Indians to the buffalo, to the American settlers, to even a real stage coach!! I loved the fact that they covered two of my ancestors! (the Comanche and Apache tribes)

Luis Feliciano

It was an interesting place to learn history together as a family.

Interesting walking tour. Well done graphic displays, movies. Also dog friendly!

Debbie Montellano

I love this little museum - great for anyone!

Tanya Quayle

We were visiting from out of town and thought this place looked interesting. It's a very cool museum! There is a short movie at the end that was really fun and the talking holographic guides were very unique. It really brought history to life for us. I would highly recommend!

Vern Six

Very well done. Holograms were cool. Kind of on the small size though. Come support it... maybe they will use the money expand. Very enjoyable place. Very professionally done

The Frontier Texas Museum is a definite must. My husband and I were just passing through Abilene when we saw the Frontier Museum. We decided to stop in. The history and exhibits were extremely well displayed in artifacts and visuals. There are two theaters giving a realistic display of times forgotten. The museum focuses on the settlers, the ranchers and Indians of the old West, their sufferings and everyday life. We only had two hours before closing and enjoyed our time tremendously with all the informative history to digest. After we had finished seeing the exhibits we decided to stay overnight in Abilene and met a very helpful employee of the museum "Jere". She not only helped us find a hotel nearby but also gave us plenty of literature on other sites to see during our stay in Abilene. Thank you Jere and thank you Abilene for a wonderful time in your beautiful city.

Kim Brinkerhoff

The 3D speakers were a one-of-a-kind thing never seen that before in a museum

David Best

Great exhibits! The exhibits are permanent, so no surprises with each additional visit. The 360 theater is neat. Great gift shop too!

Linda Darby

Absolutely wonderful museum! Very effective use of technology to bring the past to life. Presentations of multiple points of view makes it especially interesting. There are valid points to each perspective.

Barbara Cornelius

This learning museum was awesome! The docent was knowledgeable and delightful. We will visit again soon.

Terrie Light

Grear hologram display. Characters from Frontier Texas telling their stories. Amazing 360 theater that puts you into the lives of people in that era. My husband loved their extensive historical gun collection.

Lisa Bourque

Great place to learn about American history.

Kyler Holder

Fun place to learn about the history of the area. Interactive displays and a very cool 360° theatre.

Ben Lake

What a great place to visit! Receptionist was friendly and helpful about places to see while in Abilene (this is the visitor's center, after all). We then did the self-guided museum tour - $10/adult. Worth every penny! It's not a huge museum but it still takes 1.5 hrs to walk through it, more if you're the kind of person to read every board. The "hologram" exhibits were actually very professional. I've not seen anything like that before but I can certainly see how more museums will do this in the future. I was impressed with the number of authentic artifacts, including a rifle owned by a man who is said have shot 20,000 buffalo. The final 360-degree video show was informative but might be a bit scary for the young kiddos.

Peter Ellis

The experience was amazing, and it was really informative!

Brinkof Riches

nice relaxing learned a lot really enjoyed myself

Hi-sing Silen

Great place and museum concept. Love their delivery and the immersive storytelling experience. Definitely need to bring my kids here. Very attentive receptionist. We spend way more time reading and enjoying the expositions, worth it.

It adds a nicely done touristic attraction not just to the city, to the whole region. Well done, Abilene TX I'm impressed! Something like this was missing this corner of Texas. I used to rest on the highway I20 since I found Frontier Texas it became my resting area destination. Thank you for all the effort on this educational, artistic and cultural addition to the buckle of Texas.

Lisa Bell

High tech meets yesteryear. Awesome place to visit

Lots of things to see . Take your kids.

Heather Shaw

I actually was incredibly engaged with this mesuem and ended up enjoying it a lot more than I had expected. I loved the attention to detail. The mesuem took presenting the story of Texas to a higher level. They made you step into the old Texan Frontier, and you learn a lot from every side of the story. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!

Who'd've thunk you'd find a museum of this caliber in Abilene, TX - but boy oh boy Frontier Texas is it! I loved the holograms - felt like I was talking to Satanta, one of the baddest of the bad Kiowas but also with fierce belief in his way of life. And to hear and see Cynthia Ann Parker, the girl abducted by the Comanche who became the wife of a chief and the mother of Quanah Parker. The museum told a story about the settling of the frontier and all the characters you've heard of and also the regular folks who had such grit and determination. It did not gloss over our treatment of Native Americans but told their story hand-in-hand with the settlers and what a story it is. This museum is worth a trip to Abilene and I hope you can see it!

elizabeth gray

Hard to know how many stars to give this...the exhibits were overall interesting and well done, but they basically glorify man's inhumanity to man (and yes, I am being gender-specific there) with some good bits of toxic masculiniy thrown in for good measure. Conquer and destroy was the storyline: the Indians to each other (and to the women), the Spanish conquistadores to the Indians, the cowboys to the Indians, the settlers to the environment and those poor buffalo. What a mess we've made, and I wish the commentary had gone beyond who "won" to why homo sapiens behaves like this.

Patrice Sharbutt

Great museum. Interactive and informative

william Paxton

This was a great museum of Texas of old

Jennifer Oberlin

This took me back to the wild West

Jose Gonzalez

Interesting, hard to take in with one visit

Very informative and enjoyable. Gave a great history on the area and was very interactive.

A fascinating, well planned, diverse museum focusing on Texas' pre-railroad days. Delightfully weird cow skull play structure outside.

Diny Jut

Very beatiful Nice tot do

Seth Trout

Wow, what a cool use of technology in a small museum setting. The final theater show is really well done and it was nice to see life on the plains not sugar coated.

Gerald Martinez

Frontier Texas keeps growing and adding exhibits to keep this place entertaining and interesting. Great visit if you are interested in a bit of Texas History. Even if you aren't the big history buff, the whole family will enjoy the holographic characters, panoramic movie theater and gift store. Plenty to see.

Friendly, Informative... well done!!

wesley wilson

Awesome! Texas history lesson for the whole family. We will be back again.

Sarah Gerber

Great place. The holographic exhibits were very great. There were 2 very interesting movies. Lots of replicas of different items. This museum covers the history of Texas in this area from the early Native Tribes to post Civil War. Views of both the Native Americans and the settlers were covered as well as the role of women, ranching, cattle drives, African-Americans, and Buffalo's are covered. The museum has lots of art and large sculptures.

Julia Metcalf

This is a power packed museum with as much or as little info was you want, it is clean & colorful ...the actors in the holograms are outstanding..worth a visit!

sally mcknight

Go! Fun learning experience about the westward movement with lots of stuff to touch and see. The holographic guides kept it interesting all the way through but there are also many very informative panels to read throughout the museum. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in learning about the demise of the native Americans and bison that once covered the plains.

Andrea Birch

For the price it was very interesting and had a lot of history. I enjoyed the holograms of the people and the way it was set up. There were lots of cool gifts in the gift shop. If you’re bored and have a few hours(lots of reading), this is a great place to spend your afternoon. Young kids might not find it as fun because of all the reading. There’s lots of photos though and movie clips with good sound effects.

Daryl Howard

A well-planned history museum. Well worth the price of admission. Displays and presentations were effective and presented Texas history in a thoughtful and powerful manner. Children seemed to have a good time as well as adults.

Heather Marie McCarroll

I had so much fun. I love the live movie. And all the 3D interviews with the people in those times.

Robert Farris

Very informative and interactive displays and artifacts. 10/10 would go again.

Tracy Reid - Mathis

Love this museum! Very informative and well done. I would go again, so much information!

Janeen Guynn

We really like the rolling information points and 3-D displays, but our favorite part is the holograms. The first show is appropriate for most audiences, but the final show is very dramatic and scary, so its a good idea for sensitive kids/adults to skip it.

Steven Snyder

Great Western history. Definitely a must see

Gloria Goeders

I recommend a visit to the museum FrontierTexas in Abilene.

Juz MamaD

Rate for shopping only. Not really a variety of souvenirs. Very pricy

Myron Overton

Great layout If your into history this is a great place to check out.

Harmony Hollow Apiaries

Great guided tour. Worth the entry price! Great holographic guides through the tour.

Chris Florance

This is one of the best attractions on the Texas Forts Trail.

Rachel Kennedy

This is an awesome museum to visit if you have ever wondered about the people who came to Texas before you. I will say my kids didn't appreciate the interactive video stations as much as my husband and me, but they are all 5 and under. The kids did enjoy being able to get up close and personal with so many artifacts. The movies at the beginning and end of the tour were really cool. The last one was awesome because it was a surround experience, not just around sound but surround screen. I would recommend this as a visit for kids who are a little bit older just because there's less interactive items for younger kids.

Brenda Slaughter

Great history. Awesome presentation. Friendly people. Fun for all ages

Kay Kennemur

Wonderful place to visit! Friendly staff, real stories about Texas! Be sure to watch videos and movies.

Candida Whitehead

Great History lesson. Well done.

J. A. W. Jr.

If you love Texas history, don't miss it.

Sharon Martin

Slide show was very interesting. History of how it came about. Surrounded you with video where to see them, you sit on seats that go around and you can see different views as you turn. Kinda cool!!

Spencer Kitchens

The center is very inviting and informative. Great hologram negative from the people of that age, ending in a nice little gift shop.

Nakita Odom

It is nice if you like to watch a lot of videos. If I would have known I would not had visited. That is not saying it is a bad place just not what I like.

Kimberly Albee

In our quest to tour our own great state of Texas, we drove from Fort Worth to Abilene on a day trip. We weren't really expecting this to be as fun as it was! It really is an amazing place! The holograms are SO cool. The best part. They tell rich and descriptive stories of what life was like in the wild west. From being a lawman, to hunting buffalo. There's a small round theater in the tour, where you sit in the middle, and it takes you through thunderstorms and wolf attacks. It is all enveloping, and you are surrounded by screen and sound. We went on a Sunday and we were 1 of 2 families inside, so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. We were able to take our time, and really take it all in. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip! If you're looking for something to do one weekend, go here! It won't disappoint!

Elaine Davis

Great museum. Short films . Interactive games. My grandchildren loved it. Also very friendly docents. Lovely soup to nuts gift shop.

Chris Burger

Not packed ( witch I liked) historical informative, entertaining. 2 movie rooms, one in 360'. Several different holograms in different scenes, lots of period artifacts.

Terry Addington

Must see. The holographic "spirit guides" really make you feel what lif was like on the frontier. And the films are fantastic. If you're interested at all in the old west, this is the place to go. If you're not? Try it anyway.

Rebecca Herron

Amazing museum featuring central Texas history prior to the railroad. Very creative displays! It was interesting from the moment we opened the door. The staff was friendly & informative. We enjoyed our visit here very much.

It was very interesting but 10 dollars not worth it one and only time is good enough for me

Florian Foohs

Very interesting. I liked it well enough to spend 3-4 hours checking out the whole exhibition

George Farrar

Great job telling the story of the settlement of the frontier. It doesn't gloss over the mistreatment of native people or the slaughter of the buffalo. The use of holographic story tellers is very well done. Do not skip the short movies at the beginning or the end.

iris otero

Great little museum. I love that you get the experience of someone telling you a story.

Amazing historical Museum in Abilene, a must see for visitors of Abilene . I had a awesome time at the Museum.

Anthony Burke

I love this old Western frontier museum! It has holographic and planetarium style video presentations. It has a ton of information but not so much that you can't see it all in a reasonable amount of time. It's worth going back to.

Very interesting history. Plan to spend about 2 hours here

Charles Jacobs

This is an excellent museum, the holographic characters are really good

Wish it was a better theatrical finish more realistic shootings and Indians running into the camp. Overall amazing time
