Really cool place. A load of historic buildings to walk around and some very friendly and knowledgeable staff who are happy to give you information
This is one of my favorites in Dallas, I've lived here 30 years, all my life, and still love visiting and taking out of town friends/family.
Awesome place!
I never knew this was here! Just over the bridge from the Dallas Farmer’s Market and for $10/person it was a good value. Lots of history, architecture, and Pokémon Go stops and gyms (of which there are 2 poke-gyms on site). I visited on a Saturday in May and I appreciated the historians that were on site in a few of the houses so my questions were answered as well as the accessible animals (chickens + sheep) at the homestead/blacksmith house. The experience would have been further enhanced with an audio guide tour with immersive storytelling on rentable handsets or dial-the-number short histories (on the signs) like I’ve seen in other cities.
We love this place! The people who work there are super knowledgable and the grounds are great. We've been there several times, but the kids always enjoy it. It's a great place to have a picnic. I only wish the blacksmith was there more.
Always a relaxing day spent here
Historical, pleasant and definitely worth visiting!
Love it awesome place to lear and take the kidos
Nice and simple and easy and quick way to learn of culture
Great place for hand's on history lesson.
Absolutely a must see!! My kids (8 & 10) and I enjoyed this so much! Thought it would only be a few houses but there was so much more. The Sullivan home, farm and general store were among our favorites. Everyone was sweet and knowledgeable. One of the bigger homes was closed but it was no biggie. Just another reason to go back. Bring good shoes and water! So much to see and learn.
I came here on the fourth of July. We had a great time. I enjoyed seeing the buildings that have been preserved from various towns, and reconstructed to this location. We also enjoyed hearing guides who were dressed in period costumes answer our questions.
This is a beautiful nostalgic place perfect for the Chef's for Farmer's event.
If you visit Dallas and if you want to know 1800s life in the US, Dallas Heritage Village is one of the great place to visit. Family friendly place and you are able to meet kind guide at every spot you visit. Each houses and architectures have their own history, I felt like traveling old US village with taking time machine. I was really surprised when I saw one of the guide who was wearing traditional farm cloth suddenly take his cellphone out of his pocket. Because I think I came to be absorbed in his talking and behavior.
Love this place. Even my local uber driver doesn't know there's such a gem here. Such a beautiful collection of history and architecture, and very friendly stuff help you to understand the real story about some properties and the old fashion way of living. Highly recommend it!
It's a great place
Very interesting historical site, there is plenty to learn about the lifestyle o of the years between 19th and 20th century
So much to see, so much history! Great time for family
Beautiful place, we had fun
Must visit place for history buffs. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable and very keen. Highly recommend!
The Village park was Awesome, my daughter loved the tour.
You can take a trip back in time. So much to look at and you can walk at your own pace and spend time seeing gems from the past. I enjoyed talking to the blacksmith. He had so many stories to tell about the tools and show us how things were made. There were guides in the buildings that would share a bit of history and some interesting facts about the displays. I loved it there and you will too!!!
Absolutely loves this place staff was great an knew alot about each exhibit lots to look at. Great prices defiantly would do back.
Very cool to step back in time and see the 1800s living style. Very nice grounds and staff. Had a great few hours checking out all the buildings
Such a fun place to visit.
Interesting to see the old homes from around Dallas. Wish more of the working areas had been open.
Baylor had their 32nd organ transplants survival reunion here. A great place for events.
I went to a wedding at the Dallas Heritage Village. It was a beautiful venue. The food from Luck Dallas was delicious. I would like to tour the other buildings one day as a field trip.
Park featuring a selection of curated architecture from various parts of Texas. Enjoy exploring the grounds as well as the insides of these homes and businesses Including mansions a bank, school house, church, hotel, doctors office and pretty much everything else a thriving old American town would have.
This is a great place. I had a wonderful time looking at all the buildings. The staff was frendly and helpful. The free parking on site made it fantastic. Price for the ticket was reasonable. If you are in the area I would highly recommend that you take the time to visit this place.
Definitely a must see when going through Dallas. Prices are very inexpensive and its not over-crowded so you can actually enjoy your visit! I absolutely loved my trip here.
I highly recommend going to the Candlelight weekend at Dallas Heritage Village around Christmas. They have live music, a working blacksmith shop, period specific cooking and manufacturing displays, and more. Good fun for all ages. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance.
I went with my daughter and she really enjoyed there
Nicely maintained place. Moves you 150 years back in the middle of modern metroplex.
It was quite interesting. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed myself - I honestly expected less. My only complaint is a couple of the buildings were closed - not sure if that's on purpose but I like to enjoy and see everything I paid for. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable experience. My favorite parts were the school, the Sullivan house, the doctors office, and the grocery!
Wow, what a hidden gem of a 'museum'! It is a large grouping of real historical homes and shops, basically a village, that has been carefully relocated to this awesome setting. The farms even have real chickens, donkeys and, sheep, etc. You walk your own pace through the homes, shops, church, town square. Was awesome. My kids loved it. One of the coolest concepts and places I have seen. These should be everywhere!
Very educational & entertaining! If you live in or are visiting Dallas, this is a must-stop-spot. We had a great time here!
Great New Mamoth Donkeys
This is one of the most exciting museums I've had the opportunity to go to. We were here for a function and spent several hours wandering around. I could have spent several more in this town. I got to sit down and spin wool and my 9 year old cracked corn!
Good way to explore American history and good place for kids to explore and learn.
An extra nifty historical location. We went to one of their 1920s-themed events and their prep for folks was excellent.
The quality of this experience has gone down tremendously. There is no employees seen taking care of the animals and the area is definitely not being preserved. Someone should really look into replacing the current management.
It was Deja Vu I got married there in 1984 the buildings really need some updating painting even though they're in process of doing that lovely area but too close to a homeless shelter
Dallas area history displayed in story telling and homes from Dallas' past century.
One of the hidden gems of Dallas. A treasure trove of history. Great for kids. Giant oak trees provide shade among the ample green space for adults and kids to run and play. The historical farmstead setup provides a fantastic lesson of what life was like in north Texas 150+ years ago. Lots of farm cats and chickens still running around.
Loved this place as a kid and still love it as an adult!
Nice place to see how people used to live. Very resonably priced.
I love that they are maintaining these buildings and paying tribute to a time to an idea that many of us try to hold on to and hold up for our families ...this idea, this time, independent people hard-working rough hands rough lives rough times but they helped each other during those times and they held each other up they made this time for us happen think about it because of them we are
Great history telling from workers onsite. Kept very nice!
Restrooms closed, you could call the unmainted buildings rustic. Some of the scene setup were decent but overall I do not see much educational value compared to other States musems.
Very cool little place. I was here for the birthright bbq fest. Which was awesome highly recommend it! Anywho... I had no idea heritage village existed but it certainly is a cool piece of Americana. If your looking for a historical experience this is a hidden gem of Dallas.
I enjoyed visiting this place, and also I learned how were houses, pharmacies, stores... decades ago
A great snapshot of the history of Dallas
Super cute but a lot of the buildings were closed and didn't get to have a complete experience. The blacksmith was very friendly and super nice. He made the experience better(elder gentleman).
Historical buildings meet a leafy urban park.
Food and wine festival 2018 was amazing. Special thanks to the Director of the dallas area culinary institute. Definitely will be returning next year. From Philly with love!
Had a blast touring the homes and shops. My 3-year-old is in love with the general store especially! A gem in the middle of Dallas with inadequate marketing (which makes it a less crowded/crazy experience).
Went to one of the most beautiful wedding I have ever been to! This place was perfect!
Interesting history place
Excellent place to bring pre teens for all the interesting facts they can get in regard of history, social interactions, family roles, and all this with a sense of being in a hunted house. Little kids get scared here. A lot of walking. Do not bring high heels.
1st time here and we will be back! Nice little piece of History! We LOVED the blacksmith, the school house teacher and the wonderful guide that showed us The Sampson House.
Pretty cool place to stroll through with interesting homes you can walk into and check out displays. Also, they have a "mini-farm" there and my kids love helping to feed the chickens
Lady cashier was extra polite, place is nicely kept, I loved that the children were able to touch things at the store, for the other houses there's barriers obviously but quite worth seeing, there's animals and the blacksmith was magnificent! By the last houses (the one that was willed to you guys whole furnished) there was a blonde old lady employee who was rude to my son only because he sat on the chair by the entrance, she held him by his arm and made him get up, she was also upset he sat in her magazine. I couldn't see her name tag but it includes the letters "ea" together. She could smile a little though.
Breathtaking. .a small corner of the busy city where I and my child was transported back to the 1800s...the vintage clothing worn by staff..the candle making demonsration...an inner city school class was there..the wonder and joy in the eyes at simply observing the sheep brought a tear to my eyes..I highly recommend this experience for all...........the llamas were inspiring....please bring them back
Great educational place filled with so much history.
Fun to visit at the yearly Candlelight
Nice place and management. It was interesting to see how houses evolved through the years and it was fun to step inside them and look around. The guides were well informed and approachable
So much to do here! You definitely get your money’s worth!! Beautiful houses!! Very informative and friendly staff. They only thing that would have made it better would have been if the virtual tour was up and running. Lot’s of walking though so be mindful of that if you plan to visit.
Lovely little town very informative
A beautiful place to visit!!
The Dallas Heritage Village was a great field trip experience last week. The activity they provided kept my students on track and motivated. The docent at the main house was very knowledgeable about the history of the Village and was very helpful in answering questions.
Such a wonderful place. I very much enjoyed myself. I've never seen so many old houses together.
Very helpful staff.Thoughly enjoyed the village. Well done on conserving the historical buildings.More should be done to preserve historical buildings.recommend a visit
We enjoy our visit but the maintenance on some of the properties was lacking.
Beautiful we love it, its a great experience!!
Cool place with a lot of history. Not that easy to find.
4.5..but cant seem to rate 1/2 scores. Love them Nip, & Tuck donkeys! The basket weaver guy brought it to life! An actual craftsman was on property to educate us on history. Great place to amp up ur vitamin D on a clear beautiful day!
It's great to see history. A lot of the building from what I understand were relocated to this park. The staff is friendly, and willing to get you all the info you are looking for.
It's a hidden gem right in the city! We've gone twice now and both times were great. The candlelight event was neat with all the Christmas events. Definitely a must see!
I see so many homeless people around here, I wish I could help...
We visited Heritage Village the last weekend in June 2019. It was a wonderful experience, we showed up promptly at 10:00am and were the first people into the park. We casually strolled around the old homes and down main street. We visited the blacksmith and watched them working with Iron. It was a wonderful experience, with knowledgeable and friendly staff.
This was a lovely museum. The volunteers truly have an interest in the houses they are showing. Some of the houses were closed, for renovations and changes according to the notices. The houses do need work but this is costly and gives all the more reason for more people to visit. It is a real jem and peice of history! I would love to go back once a few of the closed houses are open again. I would recommend going when it is not too hot as it is a good deal of walking outside although many of the homes have air conditioning. Enjoyed our visit.
Located in downtown Dallas, great walk into the past
A lot of history here. You could listen to the volunteers for hours. You are able to go in almost every build. A must if your are visiting Dallas.
Very interesting place. Not all the buildings have people explainging the history of the buildings but the ones that do are great. Wish they all had. A real immersive experience. You feel like you've been transported back in time. Tons to see and do. Highly recommend.
Went here for Daniel tiger day in a monsoon. There was almost no infrastructure set up to handle such a large crowd in the rain (PBS fault probably). Parking was impossible and there didn't seem to be a plan for the rain.
Very interesting place, especially if you like old buildings and architecture. Personally I like to hangout and watch the blacksmith's work (though it can get pretty hot around there in the summer). I'm really glad to see that this organization has worked hard to preserve these historic buildings and keep them in good condition.
Nice place to hold an event. Free parking and just next to the freeway.
Every Friday night at 3am they have an old timey rap battle in the middle of the town square, sign up starts at midnight and you have to bring a perfectly cooked poached eggs the will be judged first before you can sign in. The mc/host for the evening is dj poach me an egg y'all - he's a Dallas icon.
Nice place. Entry fee is 10$ for an adult.
Great place to take a group of kids and they have many fun activities to watch.
Great outdoors museum. Lots of walking. Great for 5 years olds and plus.
It was interesting. Not a bad price for it but it is a little run down.
I’ve been here several times since I was a kid and the experience is always a good one. I love that there was a real blacksmith interacting with us and teaching us about “smithing”.
I love this place so much, i have become a junior historian! Amazing historical buildings, and the hands on stuff such as chopping wood, petting and feeding the animals, and going behind the counter at the general store, train depot, citizens bank, and more!
Neatest place for some history
Love this park! A fun and interactive history lesson for kids and adults.
Perfect place lots of old memories Friendly staff
This is the place I always invite my visiting friends and family to. A huge part of Dallas history right next to downtown. There are a lot of things to do and look at. A lot of things to learn. There are few sheep living there, chickens, a couple of American Mammoth Jackstock donkeys (the worlds largest donkey breed). Very cool place for people of any age. Open daily until 4pm (except Monday).
This is an amazing place if you're into history. Admission is cheap and they offer a wide variety of activities. Me and my soon to be wife went here and without hesitation decided that it is absolutely the marriage venue of our choice. The marriage packages are fairly priced and flexible.
A Dallas gem hidden in plain sight. I'm glad The Cedars neighborhood is starting to boom. Maybe Dallas Heritage Village will get a boost from the extra traffic.
It was an awesome experience for the students to have. They had fun learning about the past and how life was over 100yrs ago.
An amazing and authentic texan history experience. Totally recommended
The gentleman at the blacksmith shop was educational and captured the ear of the young people visiting .All employees were knowledgeable as well.
Good history place to visit
The first park in the DFW are and what a well kept historical event. Really enjoyed the exposure to history.
very nice place the staff is very friendly, they were dressed Victorian style
In the shadow of downtown Dallas, you can find a gem of a park. The park has a number of historical residences and cabins with inturputers in side to give you a glimpse into the past. They really bring the places to life. I would highly recommend a visit.
Worth a visit. Step back in time to a quaint peaceful texan village! Love the place! Friendly staffs too!
This place is awesome!! If you like old homes/ buildings this is it. Sooooo much History. I will be back.
Cool museum. The most interesting thing to do around.
Fun rides
Was there this morning to see the friendly sheep pretty cool love to be petted
Loved it! Definitely feels like taking a step back in time! Can't wait to go again and take my kids
Interesting little place. A good way to burn an afternoon.
DHV is a living history outdoors museum that offers an incredible peek into North Texas of the 1840s-1910s. The buildings are from Dallas and nearby N Texas and have been moved to what was formerly Dallas's first City Park, which opened in 1876. Guests can go into the buildings, and, in most places, can also touch items, use the furniture. A couple of buildings are used as event spaces (weddings, parties) thus are closed, but that does not impact a visit. The Village also has donkeys, sheep, and chickens, and occasionally, you can take a wagon ride around the grounds. The saloon is open most weekends, and you can belly up to the bar for root beer, water, and coffee. Plan to spend 1.5-2 hours. The buildings are air-conditioned.
Nice place to visit, plus interesting place to have a band event for middle schoolers. Historic models are located at Heritage Village
Beautiful place! Love all the buildings and you can go inside to check out how they looked back in the day.
I remember visiting in grade school. Good to see most of buildings are still just as beautiful as they were two decades ago. They are now inviting local school bands to perform on the weekends. Serene spot.
Wonderful walk through time
Wonderful place to go at Christmas
This used to be called Old City Park. I always wanted to go and I finally got my chance!!! The experience is amazing!! It's wonderful to see old buildings from Dallas's past. We enjoyed a hay ride and watching a blacksmith work. We enjoyed a root beer in a bar-like spot. Note: If you are physically limited or disabled, make sure you talk to someone at the front to find out the entrances and exits to the different buildings for the ramps and such. I generally found them after i left the buildings.I didn't think to ask the person we purchased the tickets from. All in all a great experience. I would love to go again!
Although I grew up in the Dallas area, I was quite surprised to find the Dallas Heritage Village. It is the closest thing to time travel I have experienced....the buildings and homes are well-preserved and full of history! Kudos to the foundation that established this historical wonderland! I highly recommend but be sure to go when the temperature is well below 100 degrees!
Event was raining was not rescheduled. Place was nice
We went during the Art Deco Sunday, it was a wonderful day out!
Love the history and atmosphere of Dallas Historical Village! Plus their events are a blast!
Small historical village.Looks better than it is. Needs better more and better care. Not much inside some homes, and some weren't open. There were no docents.
Very educational for the young and the not so young. They do a great job. Kudos to all the volunteers.
Went around the area for lunch..very artsy ,modern urban style art statues some very interesting characters , Styles and designs made out of some really unique materials .
It could have been much better but we couldn’t understand our tour guide because of her low volume and accent. Also, what we could understand were mostly facts. She wasn’t really giving us any of the story that would make the life and history of the place come alive to us. It was unfortunately boring. It could’ve been a lot more for us and the kids
Cool wedding venue.
Authentic fun interesting
A practical history lesson on a nutshell
Would of given 5 stars but buildings are very old.
This is a wonderful little gem tucked away in the middle of the city, just outside downtown. We have visited several times, both with school field trips and on our own, always having a great time. Then my daughter chose this as the venue for her wedding. I can't imagine a better experience. Having our guests go into the saloon for their drinks was a really great touch. We danced on the cobblestone street, while some guests enjoyed walking through the beautiful grounds. Many guests commented on what a perfect place this was for an outdoor wedding. Do yourself a favor, visit Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park and enjoy a relaxing step back in time. You won't regret it.
This is one of the coolest museums I've ever seen. My entire family absolutely loved it! We visited with six adults and seven kids aged 3-13, and it was a huge hit for all. It was a delight to see all the kids engaged in imaginative play in the general store, the school, and the train station (even the older kids who usually prefer staring at their screens). We all loved wandering in and out of buildings and the thrill of discovery in each new place. This village is a gem and I highly recommend it to people of all ages.
Quite educational. A real asset for Dallas. Too bad there's little money in their budget for maintenance& repairs.
I attended a wedding here and it was beautiful. I love the historic buildings and am looking forward to one of the tours they offer in the near future. If you get a chance to go and enjoy turn of the century history this place is for you.
An excellent place for a field trip! We learned so much about our Texas past.
I visited this place on a field trip with my students. In their own words: it was the best field trip in which i have been!
Cool place - worth checking out if you have a spare couple hours in Dallas.
This place is so cool! Im not even into antiques or really old stuff especially when I was in school but this place kept me interested and entertained the whole day we were there! Everyone needs to go. Its totally like stepping back in time!
Nice place! Very friendly staff
My first trip was only recently and I gotta say, I had a blast. I went with my kiddo on a field trip and it was quite the experience. The staff was friendly and personable and I liked the whole free range experience of it all. The kiddos all had fun in the store comparing all the items and prices from then to now as well helping saw a log using an old time saw. Didn't get a chance to stop by the gift shop unfortunately save to get a bandaid for one of the children that was with me and that was on the way out so I only quickly glanced over what they had. Prices didn't seem terrible and selection was fairly decent as well.
I came here for the first time this past weekend. Was looking for something to different to do with my fiance and I'm glad we chose this place! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, beautiful scenery and lots of history! Really loved the way everything is set up, didn't expect it to be as big as it is! Loved it here and can't wait to bring my family when they come to visit. Truly a hidden gem!
great place to visit and spend a few hours
A lot of history to take in. Very interesting. Didn't know Doc Holiday started out in Dallas as a young dentist.
Was very cool but everything was behind glass or gates. Some of the bldgs were locked due to renovations but yet thier charging the same price. Found that odd.
