Lots of great info
Can NOT take photos inside except for neon sign. Next door at the drummer's home you can take photos as long as tour guide not in the shot. Make sure you watch the film. Good photo op outside of big eyeglasses. I missed going inside the park across the street to see the bronze statue up close.
Great Museum for Holly fans.
This museum is very informative about Buddy Holly's life and passion of music. It was interesting and also has a nice little gift shop.
Unique buddy holly glasses.
It was nice to see the info about a musical legend.
It's a pretty big deal
Awesome place to visit.
Went with my prima from Calu it was small cute very cool
I enjoyed the visit. It would be hard to overstate Buddy Holly’s contributions and influences on the music world.
Very informative & highly interesting. Awesome items of Buddy Holly's.
Very cool exhibit. Lots of cool stuff to see and read. Only down side, they don't let you take pictures. Most of the stuff is on loan from other people and has something to do with copyrights. Still worth the trip I say.
Well worth the visit
The birth of rock N roll explained in words and pictures with Buddy at the centre of it all.
Everything is well done. A very well thought out art gallery and tribute to Buddy Holly. The staff seemed to be friendly although I didn't interact with them.
Very much worth the visit!
I was disappointed with what I saw its not worth 8 dollars!
Amazing place. Very educational. We visited during the birthday celebration. Had a great band and treats. Learned some interesting stuff. Thought I knew alot but still had stuff to learn I guess.
Incredible experience. Extremely professional staff. So very glad my son in love knew it was in Lubbock and on my way to Albuquerque. Beautiful beautiful day I will never forget. #tekkiequeen #buddyholly
Enjoyable place to go if you appreciate history of Buddy Holly. Being his nephew it is nice to finally see that there are some things in his honor in Lubbock, after his music wasn't wholly accepted very well during his short lifetime... After all, even Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins, on that first time they were all together at the Cotton Club, were directly introduced to Lubbock itself after their show, which in the very least, likely helped the economy of the city at that time on to even present day.
Fun facts about Buddy Holly. No discounts given.
Enjoyed our visit and the house tour. Tons of information
So Amazing! I loved it! Been her 7 yrs. Came here from Florida. Have always wanted to see it! My mother would dance to him when I was growing up. My mother passed last year & I had to go see for myself! It was what I expected & more! Thank you Gene!
There isn't much to see but, it was interesting to get a peek into the life of a singer I still like to this day.
Nice place with great memorabilia. The price is just a bit high for what the have, especially since you're not allowed to take photos of 90% it. Not very kid friendly, wouldn't recommended for anyone under the age of 13.
Very enjoyable experience. The museum presents memorabilia and history in a pleasant environment. Plenty of room and time to linger and revisit stations. It's a great tribute to Buddy Holly, the Crickets, and many other musicians from the era and Texas.
Cool experience, but the museum needs to add to their collection. It was free for the event I went to, so that's a plus. You get to see the house that Peggy Sue was wrote in.
We didn't have any time to visit longer. Buddy Holly museum I'll be back to visit longer. I grew up here.
Excellent musuem. Some very interesting artifacts.
Lots of devotion to their native son and R&R pioneer. Interesting area. Memorial statue is in open space just across the street from the museum.
Amazing artifacts to see! We loved visiting.
Lots of info I didn't know . AND NOW I DO !!!Good place to visit !!!
A fantastic family destination! Memorabilia from his life, fun and interesting facts about the musical influences in his life and how he influenced others. Excellent customer relations and a beautiful photograph exhibit to boot!! They also had a fantastic band for "The Day The Music Died" festival. Buddy Holly's very talented nephew!
Music was a bit too loud tonight
Learning all about his short Life & career & how much he influenced music AWSOME
It was so excited to see all of those art works
Covers Bubby's career pretty well
This is one of my favorite stops in Lubbock. A nice side trip to explore the history of Buddy Holly. Just go you will thank me later for the gift shop and picture opportunities alone.
Great information about Buddy Holly. Will go back if we are ever in the area.
I love it
Cool little park with Buddy Holly statue and Hall of Fame wall.
Great free music
The Buddy Holly Center is my boys favorite museum and art gallery. This is truly a treasure that Lubbock has to offer. Good job to all the staff and artists on display!
This is a wonderful museum and really helps to shine light on what a amazingly powerful impact Buddy Holly had for only an 18 month professional career. The museum, while it doesn't allow pictures, has a tremendous amount of artifacts and is a must for any rock fan visiting the area. Reasonably priced entrance fee and it is self guided. A must stop for the Lubbock Area!
If you’re a buddy holly fan, then this is your place. Me, I’m more of a Elvis fan but I appreciate his music.
Nice museum with lots of good exhibits. A must see for any music lover, especially rock
A will state up front that I am a huge Buddy Holly fan. That said, this was well worth the visit. Many original items from Buddy Holly's life are here, spanning from his childhood, high school, and short professional career. Photos, guitars, posters, furniture, and even the glasses he wore in Clear Lake, IA. It was a wonderfully intimate look in to Buddy Holly the person, and not just the pioneering musician. A must-see destination for any Holly fan, and worth the visit for anybody that finds themselves in Lubbock, TX.
They do a very nice job with the somewhat small amount of material they have The film was particularly good
Had a great time at the center. Very informational. It's amazing what Buddy Holly accomplished in such a short time. I've alwsys loved his music.
Great learning experience, especially for music lovers.
Very interesting tour had lots of fun!!
Great tribute the the man. You can visit the personal area of the museum, there is an admission fee or you can visit the rest for free of charge.
Enjoyed every bit of it wish they would allow photographes Inside
Some interesting information about his life.
Wow, what a perfect live concert! Element! Beautiful venue and very cozy. My first time to go to your live music, was so great. I met many friendly folks and enjoyed the museum. I never expected it to be a level 10. Y'all nailed it, high five! I love the Buddy Holly.
Great to see history preserved
Could be bigger, but the important items are there. Some of the letters and personal papers are a little hard to read. Could be illuminated a little better. Overall a satisfying experience. The glasses gave me chills, knowing he was wearing them when he died.
Excellent tribute to a great singer. Highly recommended
Great presentation! So much information and memorabilia!! Enjoyed it very much.
It's pretty empty.
It was ok. I guess because he died so long ago (1959?) And was only professional for about 18 months that there isn't that much history to display. The movie of his life is also old and needs to be remade if possible. His legacy is incredible and his impact on music will forever be imprinted in the history of music.
For a museum dedicated to a musician who only lived to 23 yrs old, they have amassed a large collection of items and memorabilia. The center is very well-organized and wants visitors to truly understand how much Buddy Holly influenced other artists for decades after his death. Boring for children, but worth the visit if you have an hour or so to spare!
Great place to check out a local and national music hero. Stopped with the kids and they loved it.
The best part is the statue (which is free). The guitars in the museum are cool, but not really worth the price of admission. If you really love Buddy Holly and have a coupon, I say go for it.....otherwise just take your pictures by the statue.
Interesting place with old pictures of entertainers, my kids had no clue who most were. Left with a lot of nostalgia and a smile
Really interesting and cool to visit
Allow yourself at least a good couple of hours when visiting. The museum is fun and interactive. You can also take a tour of the house Jerry Allison lived in (this was my favorite part). It's not large, but the atmosphere is well preserved and the guide really paints a nice picture. Plus, they have pretty stocked up shop, if you're into souvenirs.
Really great museum, smaller than I expected though. It was really cool to get to go into Buddy Holly’s home though!
Wanted more
Best place. His parents keep all his stuff. His childhood room's original furniture is there. His table from his marriage in NYC. The glasses he wore during the crash are also there. You are not allowed to take photo but very worth the trip to see all this historic memorabilia from one of the greats and learn aboit the day the music died.
Was fun to see the statue of buddy was vandalized missing some tunners from guitar not very nice something from past everone should see
Nice place to visit
It was GREAT seeing things that had belonged to Buddy Holly during his living years. My father has always loved Buddy Holly and, introduced me to his music, now I love it too.
I was brought up on the music of Buddy and Elvis. Singing / recording their music on reel to reel and playing(attempting to play!) those stunning riffs with my dad in the kitchen..or 'little room' as it was known back then.Visiting the centre and the Holly family grave was something I had to do.A totally unforgettable experience and I can say ' I've been there'.A beautiful place .Worth the 12 hour return drive from Dallas!
It is a small exhibit but very well put together; it encompasses the very short but that much more illustrious career of this young musical genius. There is something new to learn even by very well versed musical history buffs and fans of rock and roll.
Staff was great, learned a lot. I recommend visiting for everyone.
A must see for any true Buddy Holly fan!
Worth a visit if you are in Lubbock Looking for something to do. They do not allow pictures on the inside so I do not have any to post. But was a good exhibit of Buddy Holly's short life and the impact he had on rock and roll.
Well organized little museum which covers Buddy Holly's life and career.
Loved showing my children what real rock was.
It was one cool place to visit
Very well done. Lots to read though and most of it is repeated in the movie.
A great place to visit, full of Americana. Well worth the stop.
Outstanding tribute to the master song writer and singer.
It was a great place to spend an hour
Remodeling is looking good on the brick work!
Buddy Holly Center is a Lubbock institution with their Summer Music Showcase, with Wendy Colonna shown here. It's also a Lubbock relic, as the historic Depot building that served as the beautiful train station in Lubbock during the early 1900's. Visit for the permanent Buddy Holly exhibition and the gift shop. Stay in the neighborhood at night to visit the bars and restaurants in the Depot District. Stay in the Pocket Hotel above The Brewery LBK in the Pioneer Building. Buddy Holly Center, run by the City of Lubbock, is not to be confused with Buddy Holly Hall, the larger opera house designed by Diamond Schmidt architects to the north bordering the Marsha Sharp Freeway.
If you are a fan of history especially history of musicians than this is a great place to visit. They have art from other artists as well.
excellent museum - great artist
The museum is small so it won't take you long here. The video was very informative and I learned a lot. But I was disappointed because I couldn't take photos and there weren't any postcards to purchase with photos of the Buddy Holly treasures.
Lots of great memories.
Detoured to Lubbock to see the statue of Buddy and found this gem of a museum.
Wonderful peek into the background of this legend...
Great small museum. My kid loved seeing all the guitars. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Best part......the glasses Buddy wore during his final flight are at the museum!
Not very large, but it was well worth the 2 hours. People there were terrific, very friendly and knowledgeable. We got our pictures taken by the huge glasses in front.
Nice area . Great bars, restaurants and plenty of local PD security.
This is a neat little place to see some of Lubbock's history. There are two exhibits and a gift shop here. One exhibit is ever-changing with New art displays from various people. This exhibit is usually free. The other exhibit is all of the Buddy Holly memorabilia. There is a charge to enter this exhibit. There is a huge replica of Buddy Holly's famous glasses outside the center. This is a great photo opportunity. If you come on Saturdays from 10-1 (June-October) there is a farmer's market with in walking distance.
Great nice museum
The Concerts on The Patio are so nice. Having the food trucks and drink station set up are, also nice. Throughout the summer, they had awesome performers. Today was Patricia Vonne and Robert LaRoche. They were totally awesome and entertaining!! The Buddy Holly Center, itself, is amazing and informative, if you know little about Buddy Holly. Well worth attending.
It was interesting.
Thank goodness it was free when we went.
Friendly people, great stuff to look at!
Very nice collection! Very disappointed that photography (non-flashed) was not allowed (odd because they allow pictures at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame). Would have gotten 5 stars. Staffs were friendly!
I didn't get to go inside, but it's Amazing how much BH achieved in his short life.
Beautiful place full of history and very clean friendly people work there and housekeeping does a great job
Was a nice surprise
Learned so much and saw amazing artifacts. The contemporary gallery was amazing too
If you're a Buddy Holly fan this place is a must see. Also the staff is real friendly
My husband Donald and I and my service dog Selena came to Lubbock Because my husband always wanted to visit here we had already been to Iowa to the site where the plane crashed killing Buddy Holly Ritchie Valens The big Booper and the Pilot we loveved the Center it was great learned more about Buddy. Also visited his House and took pictures Thanks Guys had a wonderful time
Great history. It was very warm in the museum though.
There's a fee to do the tour and I was just passing thru town, so I didn't have time for the tour. A 3 Star is all I can give without seeing it all.
Enjoyed the museum.
Interesting exhibit, not super-large, but it was nice.
This is a great music and history venue. A new music venue is being built and will be open soon. It might give Branson, Missouri a run for it's money! Hey, competition is a good thing! Only time will tell. Thanks
Was awesome
Delightful. Loved seeing yhe pics and watching the video. Must see when visiting Lubbock.
Lots of interesting information and photos to see during Buddy Holly's lifetime. Several artifacts that belonged to him as well.
A sweet museum full of the history of the birth of Rock, and all the soul, spiritual, Blue Grass and country that added to the creation. Loved that they were teaching a song writing class for children in their classroom.
Disappointing tributes to Buddy Holly. The house on site is from one of the band members. A nice story line in the center however it is all private collections and no photos allowed. Expensive for what you get.
I absolutely love this place. Everyone is so nice and I enjoy how peaceful it is. I even remembered the tour guides name after 2 1/2 years because she gave such a memorable speech about Buddy following his dreams. Really just gives you such a nice feeling. The museum is meant to continue Buddy's legacy, and while I know most young people today don't even know who he is, people like me appreciate it wholeheartedly.
This was a wonderful place to visit. While growing up to Buddy Holly songs, this center made me more aware of his entire life. They tell his life story brilliantly. Exhibits are creative and memorable. Great learning that Elvis' music had a dramatic impact on Buddy. It was fascinating learning the influence he had on the the Paul and John of The Beatles, Elton John and others.
Find out all you need to know about Buddy Holly...or was it Holley?? Find out the answers!!
Very nice
Great pictures and video
Nice small interesting museum. Pics inside are not allowed.
Taught our children about Buddy Holly and other older rock n roller.
Very nice museum dedicated to Buddy Holly and the music scene from Lubbock Texas
I don't have a history of being a rabid Buddy Holly fan, but I find him interesting and, of course, tragic because I am a big fan of the song "American Pie". Before this visit, I didn't realize just how talented Buddy Holly was, nor was I aware of the depth and breadth of his influence. It's a relatively small Center, but what's there is excellent, including a short film. There's a gift shop of course that's a bit kitschy but not too much and a gallery for special exhibits. There's also a display of BH's bedroom for some reason. I didn't see much point in that; it's not really the same as seeing a display of Charles Schultz's studio, but whatever. BH was a small, skinny guy judging from his tshirt and leather jacket that were displayed which was something else I hadn't known previously. He always seemed larger than life.
Really nice center stayed for the concert they were having had a great time there friendly people enjoyed the music
The entrance fee is $8. But the giant Buddy Holly glasses is right up front near the parking, and there is a Buddy Holly statue and wall of Fame across the road.
Had a great experience! Will be back!
Loved it. Like stepping back into the '50s. If you love Buddy Holly and the '50s, this is a must-see. Afterward, walk across the street to see the Buddy Holly statue and Walk of Fame. Live music in the evening.
If you like Buddy Holly, it's the greatest place to go.
Great museum - the movie (18 minutes) is very well done and the collection of artifacts is varied and interesting.
It was a little disappointing. The best part about it was the movie about his life. It would of been more interesting to see more pictures of his early life.
It's Buddy Holly what more needs to be said
So interesting ! Staff is welcoming. The Dia de los Muertos exhibit was beautiful as well!
Well worth a visit. Great museum.
Interesting Museum. All you need to know about Buddy.
1st. Friday Art Trail Barbi Exhibit was awesome... Great pieces of art Jackie (center director ) is amazing
Loved the music. Lots of reading.
Very neat to see the history of this rock and roll legend learned a couple new things definitely worth the time to go check it out
Nostalgic. Friendly people. Good food.
Great museum, lots of info! Timelines are awesome.
Small but very interesting
We arrived 20 min before they closed so we didn't get to see much. What we did see was great and the staff was very nice and accommodating.
Had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the Mariatchi Band. All the guys were great very entertaining.
Having been a Buddy Holly fan for the last 60 years I felt so amazingly inspired by his music and about 28 years ago I learned to play the guitar with Buddy's music top of my list of the favourite songs. Thanks for everything and all the help you have provided today. Your staff are very welcoming and do their very best to help in anyway they can. Kind regards to all concerned. Peter L. Jones.
