REVIEWS OF Art Car Museum IN Texas

Dylan Gotesky

Great museum. Staff was very friendly and helpful with the art exhibits, even going so far as to show us videos of the pieces in the parade.

Larry Defrank

Great place for abstract

esthela fitzgerald

Always something interesting. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff

Marisabel Alfonzo Fermenal

If you like art, you should go. It is pretty small but has very interesting facts to share. It is free. Parking available and free

Misti Fletcher

Had a nice time here. Interesting art pieces

Eyzofgrene

Very interesting artwork. Several pieces were very thought-provoking. It's free to enter, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Audrey Flores

The museum is free and has some cool art cars along with other art.

Nissa Sims

The employees are friendly and knowledgeable and it's a fun place to go❣️

Cyn C.

This museum was cool. The kids loved the different decorations on the cars along with the art work. The owners were super friendly and you could tell they were proud of everything inside.

Lara Polk

This was the most interesting place I think I have ever been. We happen to just be driving by and saw it. The artwork is amazing. The only drawback is it has limited parking.

Stacie Banes

Great place to visit for free. Wonderful art, wish there were more cars, only got to see 4.

KING SLAKR

Pretty cool art exhibit. It had a good amount of trippy art, had a twilight zone moment haha. Fun if you a if you have a little time to kill, if you're in the area

Mark Kirschke

Very cool funky building. Only 4 cars on hand, but it is also a place for local artists to display their art so there is a lot to see. Super friendly super knowledgeable staff made the visit fun and informative. Parents, if your children can't behave please don't bring them here. Everything is so fragile and you are not allowed to touch anything. Outside port-a-can, inside water dispenser. Three parking spaces on lot, 4 or 5 more on the street cut out just to the north. While I made a voluntary donation on my way out, the museum has free admission.

Alexis Sultan

Awesome museum and friendly staff! The cars were beautiful and the whole concept was so captivating.

Alex P

Very cool. Highly recommend going to learn about Houston's Art Car movement and the yearly parade. Took about an hour to go through. The staff were very intresting to talk too

Ashley

Nice Free museum with some amazingly decorated cars inside. Would recommend to take your children but make sure you watch them because you cannot touch the cars. You can take all the pictures you want though

Shilo Dispicable

Very nice and great art displays! Very helpful and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back for other events.

Green sam

One of our favorite places in Houghton. The art was beyond fascinating and that didn’t even include the cars! Staff was so nice. Will come back again ^_^

Julia Oa

Very unique, I never see anything like that before.

Ritika Bhattacharjee

Such an amazing experience! The inside of the museum smells like sandalwood and it's got a great energy. A good place to take teens, but not kids (there was one sculpture that some parents may not feel is appropriate for their kids, but it was just one). Learned a lot about the history of art cars and each piece of art makes you think.

Pamela Terry

Special artist exhibits

Jim Livingston

This is more a art gallery then a car museum. The few cars that are there are more art pieces then cars.

Jay Landry

Took the kids here and they loved it! Totally recommend for a family day!

Anthony Robbins

The place is great and worth taking time to look or take the kids to. Note: There are only about seven parking spaces. We had to park at the antique store across the RR tracks and walk. The staff can be overly strict. Though friendly and informative may not have the manners you expect. Take it with a grain. St. Pat's day 2019

Shay Ranae

This is a very interesting museum. I loved the car displays. However, the museum is small. It will not take long to walk through it. I hope they expand their facility and add more cars.

Travis Fullwood

Not a lot of cars but the ones there are impressive and the art work is very nice.

Venkat Teja

It has very good modified cars. As it’s free to watch, it is worth to spend some time.

Nicholas Redding

Small little museum, but well worth going to see the unique pieces. It's free, so the only thing you lose is the brief time you spend there.

Brandy Comeaux

This is a very unique and free visit. We went last minute with kids and everyone enjoyed it. Some really cool work that had to take a long time to put together.

Dan King

Intimate and cozy gallery with limited displays. Street parking only.

Erika Garcia

Awesome place to view creativity and art in every way.

Mallesh Pai

Lovely museum with interesting changing displays of art cars. It's free and a great place to stop by for about an hour or less (especially if your kid/s love cars).

Cheryl Medlin

Loved! Great excursion

Kristin Casillas

I've loved this place since the first time I set foot into the building. The exhibits change as well as the actual art cars that they have displayed. Unique art that makes you feel inspired... Now who doesn't want to feel that??? Great for any art lover or tourists who are looking for something that represents the Houston art scene.

Sparky Cooper

Interesting art, friendly and knowledgeable curators

Gina Guajardo

Very interesting place to visit and take in all the creativity

Benjamin Harms

Free Admission. Right?! The Art Car Museum of Houston is in a great location near the Heights/Montrose area. Parking is available, but scarce, onsite... We parked at the strip center across the street. Inside is a wonderful collection of photographs, miniature art pieces, historical blurbs, and of course-- several art cars! They had an art bike and maybe 6 or 7 art cars the day I went. It is stunning!!! The level of commitment and attention to detail is outrageous. The staff is also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I couldn't believe there was no admission charge for this level of gallery style museum. I'd make this a must-see if you're in Houston visiting or if you have just lived there forever and have never been. It's extraordinary.

John Moffitt

Always a terrific visit.

Dan M. Allison

Always something interesting at the Art Car Museum. A unique venue unlike anything else in Texas, showing nationally recognized outsider artists and visionaries as well as well-chosen local talent.

christopher galban

Very nice people with some of the best videos and information on every aspect of the art car.

Robert Lealiiee

I love that artwork of cars with so many details and it’s very artistic.

Grace Dewald

Great little museum. It's a free will entry and worth a few minuets of your time. The volunteers are great. The videos are very unique right along with the art cars. Enjoy!

Ro Jordan

Museum was ok. My son was taught a valuable lesson aboutvracism still existing through a employee. Sadly, because of this I will not recommend.

Antonio Helm

A jewel in the middle of the Heights. There is a small permanent collection and shows which are usually quarterly. There is no fee. Always a fun time. During the”W” year's FBI investigated. The art unlike any you’ll find anywhere else. The staff knows the art intimately the small space holds large experiences

Mindy Lucido

Fun place to check out only 3 stars because they only had 3 cars!

Cristian Coarfa

Interesting combination of classic / art cars and art exhibits

EMMA PINA

Great place to go visit

Adolfo Coronel

Really fun museum to visit. Friendly people, interesting art that changes along with the cars there. Best of all you have nothing to lose, it's free, but you will definitely feel like donating afterward.

Matthew Swartz

We stopped here as part of our "unique Texas art tour" and loved it. Going to the "Art Car Museum" you know exactly what you are going to get... Artistic cars. We loved the houston history, level of detail on the cars and the additional artists represented at the museum. If you are touring around Houston then we recommend this stop.

Kristal Nelson

Wish there were more cars to see besides 4

Cotheana Foster

Never again would go there.

Keith Rosen

What a great and unique museum in Houston! The employees and volunteers there are always friendly. The price is perfect - FREE.

Stephen Shaw

Awesome art on cars! The owners are super friendly and a joy to talk with. My wife and I had a great time viewing all the art there. Oh... it's was also free admission. :)

Lorin Cann

Love that this place is free and always changing the exhibit! I always stop by when I visit Houston.

Chris C.

Really cool experience! Took the whole family. None of us are like into cars or car buffs - but this captured our attention for a good hour or so. The people there are really awesome. Enjoy a Art Car brew by St. Arnold's, a local brewery, once you're off the road!

Brian Williams

Fun little museum, definitely worth the stop.

Christian Paez

Beautiful!

AKAAKi 157

The Art Car Museum is truly a gem to visit. We were looking for things to do in Houston and it came up on multiple lists so we decided to give it a shot - 1) the top 10 things to do in Houston; 2) the top 10 things to do with kids; 3) the top 10 things to do in a rain in Houston; & 4) the top 10 things to do in Houston that are free! PRICE - The museum is totally free but you can make a donation.. DURATION - It will take about 30-45min. PHOTOS - You can take as many photos as you like, you just can’t touch anything. ;-) CARS - There are multiple unique, funny, and interesting pieces. The “Bunny” Car was hysterical, a bit scary (not for Easter parade - it would definitely scare little kids ;-) There were 3-5 large cars in the museum and multiple art pieces. The museum displays different cars each year. At least two of the cars are functioning and take part in the Houston Spring parade. ART - Every year, the museum has a different theme and asks 100 local artists to submit their pieces. December of 2018 when we visited, the theme was “Animals.” The artwork was fantastic. There were so many great pieces. STAFF - One staff member explained the entire process to us when we came in. Another man was giving us some inside stories about each of the cars in the exhibit. Very nice - seem to love what they do. VIDEO - In the back of the museum was a video playing stories about people who make art cars. Some stories were recent but most were from the 80’s and 90’s. Some stories were very funny, some super crazy and some very inspiring.

Jon Abrams

Out of everywhere we went in Houston on our vacation, this was by far our favorite stop. Super friendly staff, and really interesting exhibits. A lot of eclectic and off the wall stuff. Loved it!

Tricia Shorr

Unique, fun and totally unexpected. Johnny Reed so informative.. We loved it (not car enthusiasts)

Lu HiTones

Very cool. Heard if you go to parade go VERY early like 3hours before & best close to end of parade route.

Natividad Timmerman

Amazing place, wonderful staff, unique art pieces...a "must see" for artists and art enthusiasts.

Ediberto Madrigal

The staff is very friendly and informative. They created a very welcoming atmosphere and the exhibits were entertaining. It's a small museum and parking is limited. I parked in a side street at the end of the block. But this place is more than worth the visit. Admission is free but they take donations too.

O.H. Hasan

As of 9/7/2019 - The museum is closed for installation. No estimated time of reopening posted.

M J

Small place, limited parking but the staff is quite nice and the art is worth it to see in person. My kids loved this place, it was a nice place to visit and now they are both really excited about the upcoming parade!

Preston Harrell

Had a lot of fun! Highly recommend visiting!

Ethan Lee

Cool Car Art museum. Theme changes, so make sure to visit!

Bob Yarborough

It's not bad. Small and not crowded, but very limited. It's cool if that's what you're interested in.

Heidi Vartiainen

Wanted to go today before leaving Houston- Google says this place is open, but a sign on their fence/door says ”closed for installation”. No mention on their website either...

Steve Duffy

This would be even better if they could have more cars to view. Aside from that, the winning cars on display are amazing and they have lots of other art to view as well.

Etan Ogorek

Cool beans, and doesn't take a lot of time

Daniel Eling

So funky and cool, both the cars on display and the themed exhibits around them. Perfect for a quick visit with kids.

Allison Sullivan

Free and welcoming! Very fun!

cwbokie

Don't hesitate to stop by and see this place. For something unusual especially if you like art and cars. A great experience.

Zhao Ge

tiny but unique museum, staffs are super friendly. kids and adults love this small stop over when you are in H town, free of charge, a small donation is welcomed.

Katie Shultz

Great, free, little museum with a bunch of neat art

Alex Philipson

It's a cool place with a local tradition, but this is a very small exhibit and almost nothing about the cars in there. It would be nice to learn about the artists or any inspiration behind the cars. It's free though so that's a plus but it's not a must see

Kayre Axe

Fun place to visit. Good films about art cars, different cars, both rare cars and art cars, on view at different times. They also have art or photography works, not necessarily what'd to art cars, on view as well. A little on the small size, (five cars on display, including the one out front, when we were there) but who can complain when it's free? A donation does, of course, help keep the place running. Very limited parking in front of the building so you may need to plan to park along the street nearby. All in all, a good place to stop for a fun, short visit.

Kerry Bradley

A true community gem. Not only was it cool to see the art cars, a breathtaking display of 3-D art, but I liked the pairing of the themed art exhibit (in this case, "animals") and the selection of "first 100 submissions" allowing many under-represented artists of all ages and skill levels to exhibit together. What truly moved me however was the passionate docents who engaged visitors with additional information about the art and artists, but shared the mission of the owners to provide a creative outlet and artistic voice for this community. It was inspiring to meet people who wanted to make a difference in their community, who were so welcoming, and still so creative and whimsical.

Alyssa

They have 3 parking spaces only. It's a free parking and free admission. Clean bathroom, and receptionist gives you brief introduction about the museum and exhibitions. It was pretty interesting, and we will get back to this place next time we visit Houston since their exhibition will be different every year. (You will find out the reason why once you get there. The receptionist will tell you)

Cheyenne Arentz

Very cool place. It had everything you could want for a FREE museum. It wasn't very big but the art pieces were interesting and it wasn't crowded

Grace Simpson

Smaller than we thought, friendly people though. Glad that it didn't cost anything, and I enjoyed the tire photos, but its not a must see in our opinion. If you're in the area it's nice to stop by though.

James McDonald

Small museum but very interesting. Take time to watch all the films offered.

Dallas Morgan

This is a great place to spend the afternoon. Exhibits change, and there's a wonderful video interview with the creators of art cars.

Paul Lindsay

Just seconds off of I - 10, Free admission, friendly and quirky staff, family friendly. A great idea of odd-amotive history and outsider art.

Adam Caplan

I really like what they did here. I hope the place thrives. I can't recommend for kids though, which is sort of counter intuitive... Ugh, I hate reviewing based on something that was not within the main function of the place, but this really got under my skin... So, I go in with my wife and three young kids. Guy at the desk looks at the kids and says to me, "do you see that piece behind you? The rocks on the carpet?". At that point my children run over to it... "No!" Says the guy... "It's not a carpet but sand and dirt!!!". As my 2 year old is standing in it... They were cool about it, but now I'm the guy whos kid stepped in a fragile piece... Negative 5 stars for approach with kids. Thousands of ways that could have been handled better... Anyway, you should see it. It's small, bit worth spending a little time to absorb

Ruari Rhodes

Interesting little museum adding a dose of quirkiness to Houston. More than anything though, the highlight is the people running it. Clearly passionate about the museum and the Art Car scene, and happy to talk about Houston's other hidden gems. If you ever feel that Houston is too huge or faceless to enjoy, this is the place to start.

Chaayne Barron

Cuz whats not to love?!

Lauren Michels

Small but fun to stop in. Admission is free so if you're in the area it's worth visiting

Doria Rosa

A must stop un Houston.

Richard Curtis

Free and very good art not all necessarily car related

Daniel O'Brien

Staff very friendly and informative. Small but fun to see their cars. Sorry I missed the parade this last April. Enjoyed it very much.

Denise Gusman

This place always has great Art from local artists! Awesome looking building and most important everyone is very nice. Oh and fits into everyone's budget!!! FREE!

Miss Czechy

The name and description of this place is misleading. I was under the impression that it focused on cars (ie a display room full of them), but turns out it’s a very tiny space with more random and bad art than actual cars. The cars themselves were silly, I saw some pictures of cooler looking cars which is why I even went, but the ones I saw in person were more like goofy gags. My expectations were way too high for this place. I’m honestly baffled at how people give anything more than two stars. I was in and out in under fifteen minutes and honestly every piece of ‘art’ made me more and more tired/bored. To add insult to injury, I wasted a lot of gas to even go here. If you want to know what this place is like, it’s basically like an apartment with mediocre and unartistic work. I legitimately feel like they found most of these display pieces at garage sales and/or dumps. The only reason this place deserves even one star is because the staff was very polite. However, in this case, it’s definitely a “you get what you paid for” kinda deal- as in don’t expect much (free isn’t always good). I definitely won’t recommend here to anyone I know or anyone visiting. Tbh you could have a lot more fun in a Target. Hell, even Goodwill is more fun than this place.

yolanda gonzalez

I love this museum. We always try visiting each time they switch out their art. I am hoping to enter in the next exhibit. I have never been disappointed with any of the art or themes. We still have yet to be in town when they have their parade but it is definitely a goal of ours to see one day. Even our son has loved this museum since he was very young. I'm glad the changing art keeps him interested each year. The cars they have on display inside are always cool to see.

Eduard Mihalascu

Interesting, unique, underrated. I would go there again. Tough to find parking- very small parking lot.

Shawna Roggow

Really interesting place to stop in and take a look at! Waa a lot of fun and the change the vehicles out so there is always something new to look at!

Joshua Marroquin

I had an awesome time seeing cars with different designs and arts! The people here are also awesome and cool to be able to create such beautiful masterpieces!

Tamara Lair

Interesting cars, neat idea. Small space with approximately 7 cars. Worth a visit though if you're looking for something to do in the city. Admission is free.

Amber Cleveland

Animal exhibit was an amazing opening showcase with live music.

Blkbrbi B

Awesome for the family, makes you want to see more.

Trey Metcalf

Small, but, awesome. Another hidden Houston gem! It was fun for the whole family. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They even change out the cars every so often to keep the exhibit fresh. I highly recommend visiting the Art Car Museum.

Will Russell

There are only 3 cars on exhibit. The rest is wall art. Very nice wall art. But not what I was expecting. Free to get in. The staff was super nice and very informative.

Shay Wyatt

One of Houston's hidden gems. Beautiful local artworkand the cars that were staged were very interesting.

Rashida Kachwala

The owners were friendly and the exhibits amazing. We will be back once they rotate the exhibits

Sara Henderson

The art and art cars cycle so each experience will be different. The gallery is small and about an hour is a reasonable amount of time to see everything in depth and chat with the docents. Photography was encouraged. No admission, just a donation, which I was happy to give! They organize art car parades and other events too. Parking was very limited (we were lucky and got a space near the door), but take the time to find alternate parking close by - the museum is worth it.

Ebraheem Salahuddin

Very nice environment and friendly people

QuoVadis Fanning

It Always Gives Off an Example of New Life Thanks Houston

Davorin Andric

Small collection, but definitely worth visiting.

David Rand

The cards were amazingly cool. But the museum was way smaller than I'd expected. There were only three cars! My kids still liked it, but I wish there was more space / cars...

Siddhartha Jain

Very small, just 3-5 cars inside. Suggest to couple the visit with other places as 20 min is good enough to cover the entire place. It's free and host are great

Mary Ellis

What a delight and surprise. The vehicles on display were facinating in design and execution. I have whizzed by the museum for ages and finally stopped by, wish I'd gone long ago.

Ronald Villalobos

Friendly staff and wonderful art pieces. Recommended you give them a visit

Bridget ONeill

What a fun stop in Houston. Full of happy surprises and great staff!!

Natascha Gotesky

What a fun and interesting field trip for your family, or class if you are a teacher! The volunteers are very passionate and informed, and the art is very creative and fascinating! There is a good variety of work and some tantalizing pieces! We enjoyed it thoroughly!

Charles Webb

Very nice. A must see kind of place.

Cathy Metcalf

Always fun and interesting. Parking is challenging though!

Ireyda Martinez

I have lived in Houston for 27 years and I can't believe that I had never been here. I took my 4 year old and it was a fun experience for the both of us. Everyone is friendly and it was interesting to learn about the history of this museum. Will definitely return for future exhibits.

Juan Rivera Garcia

Nice place to visit. Has very interesting pieces.

Kat Arte

The photos shown in the google listing over-promise. I enjoy quirky art but honestly wasn't thrilled with this museum. Some of the smaller pieces were quite good.

Nancy England

Very small place but very awesome. Took my granddaughter and a friend of hers and they loved it.

Dana Taschen

The art car museum is a must-see destination. Not only will you see fantastic art cars but you will also be delighted by excellent local artisans in a variety of mediums.

Adam C

Very cool place to visit!

Arik yehuda Meshulam

Great experience!

Andres Rodriguez Ghersi

Great pop car museum. Beautifully crazy car art and a few other stuff too.

Eva Ewen

Super cool museum. They give you a little speech when you walk through the door. They put out a call to local artists with a theme. They then chose the art cars which match the art the best. The employees are very knowledgeable about the art cars, some have even driven them. It’s a very cool place to go. Parking is limited, took about 30 mins to see everything but take your time and really look at the cars and artwork!

John Reyes

Need to go and see. No charge to enter many items to see. Many items with history And there are people to talk too about the art items.

maria isabel cristancho

Nice place, nice plan.

cary torry

It was pretty cool, I recommend everyone go there at least once in their lifetime because the art is amazing

Monica Parrillo

Lovely museum and always something new to see

Family Love

This place is not for Black people! Read between the lines if you still decide to go. It's not a car museum! It's more like racism with inappropriate pictures. Let me put it like this they, have a picture with a white woman holding a darker complexion baby and a darker complexion man standing behind her and the Quote wrote "this is when we lost our Crown" And, they had a darker complexion chopped off head displayed. Etc. I thought this was a car museum, smh. Such a shame.

Moon Barker

An exciting visual experience for all ages... And it's free! A Houston treasure. Please check the days/ hours they are open beforehand.

Rhonda Gilezane

Highly recommend going to learn about Houston's Art Car movement and the yearly parade. Took about an hour to go through.

Tessa Owens

Great free musuem! Cool cars & the employees there are very passionate. Such a nice way to spend a cheap afternoon.

Hanru Redelinghuys

We went to Boston and wasn't sure of what to do with all our time during the day. Came across this cute little museum and was amazing. Exhibits were very interesting and you can just see the detail which goes into it. I'd recommend if possible to see the parade, which we unfortunately missed. Furthermore, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Museum is for free with donations welcome.

Adam Szramek

Amazing museum dedicated to car art. The changing exhibitions are definitely worth the visit as what we've seen is very unique and inspiring. We've been given lots of information and stories related to the cars. Feel free to ask questions as they are all super friendly and passionate about the art.

Komal Kumar Bollepogu Raja

Wonderful vintage cars !

Trina Miller

Small place, big personality. Loved loved loved the experience. Free to enter, staff are local experts on the subject matter and are super friendly and eager to answer questions. Donations are always appreciated.

LuketheDuke

Very interesting place worth the stop. There is no parking so you will have to find a spot at the local shopping mall (not the gas station, they tow) It's air conditioned, clean and has a friendly staff. It's also free so be sure and leave a donation if you enjoyed.

Alexander Ngugi

Awesome little museum! The art cars are made with exceptional detail! I truly appreciated the time it took these artist to perfect their art cars. Also, it's free!!!

Suzanna Law

Weird but wonderful - publicly sourced artwork as well as art car examples that gives you faith that creativity is still out there in the world, especially in Houston.

Kathie LaMore

Cars are so unique it's fun to see the other art there too.

Tasha Dedios

All the dinosaur exhibits are amazing! Unfortunately the rest is really dated. There's a lot to learn and you definitely get a good deal for your money, I just wish they'd update their other exhibits.

Alyssa Gaytan

Cool cars and very nice staff!

Kelley Currie

Only three cars in the whole place but the artwork is amazing and you can't beat the price.

Kamran Ahmad

Really awesome place. Awesome art projects. Specially liked the singing fish car. Would definitely recommend this one for folks visiting Houston it's a free entry. Awesome museum staff. Only issue I found was lack of parking, I had to park across the street at shops.

Marisa Rodriguez

Small collection but a super awesome little exhibit. The staff is friendly and helpful. Very knowledgeable about the art cars, the history, and the in between! From my understanding the cars on view can change and it's possible to see new cars on exhibit. I thought they were really fun and interesting to see! The art car parade is a site to see to if you ever get a chance!
