This Museum belongs to the category of Museum.
Free admission with plenty of interesting exhibits. Located in the cultural district close to other museums so it is easy to museum hop. Expect to spend at least 2 hours here to truly take in all the art.
The Gordon Parks exhibit was beautiful. John Clay did a wonderful tour.
Remington is my favorite. Lots of his sculptures and paintings!
Great art museum and a great place to escape the heat!
Nice collection. Pity the architects work is constantly needing repair and renovation.
Peaceful and educational. The staff is so welcoming.
This is a gorgeous museum. Best collection of western art I know. You think you're done and then there's more. Don't miss the Charles Russell letters.
One of the Fort Worth big 3 museums located next to each other. Must see!
Besides the very highly meritorious artworks, the building itself is noticeably classy and enhanced by being "elevated" higher than its peer museums nearby. The AC Museum---what's not to like?
Great culture!
Nice place to visit. Some arts are really amazing
I enjoy this museum & its art very much
The upstairs portion was closed due to renovations, but I loved the collection of Remington and Russell. A Great free experience.
Our guide was accommodating. They always have some interesting photography on display.
Very clean. Small place but BIG art on the cool!
I loved everything about this museum. The art, the sculptures, the staff, and It's free! Check out the gift shop before you leave. I feel in love with this place. The cowboy art tells true stories. Ask someone while you are there.
Very lovely. A lot of stairs but still very lovely.
Although under remodeling construction, the "best of" exhibit is remarkable. Wonderful American masters are represented including Frederick Remington, Georgia O'Keefe, Winslow Homer, and Mary Cassatt. Beautiful!
Great collection. Going to be closed May to September. Remodeling.
Awesome exhibition of fine art.
Nice place friendly staff mostly. They shouldn't have been so rude explaining not to use a camera on certain things
Perfect spot for a short, family outing.
Very good museum. With the recent remodel, there seems to be an emphasis on photography or other modern media, but it works well with the classic Remington works. The Georgia O'Keefe works are stunning and I see new aspects on each trip. …
One of the best museums I've ever been to. Full of beautiful art and so much more. Truly a must-see when visiting Fort Worth
What a Fort Worth gem! On a whim we visited the Amon. On Thursday’s it’s open late & free. Not busy at all despite spring break. If you want to see beautiful things or a/c check out the museum
Beautiful and diverse artworks. Well worth a visit.
Great collection of photography!
At one of the best museums in the world for Western art, I was happily surprised to find a retrospective of four of the world's greatest sculptors. The New American Sculpture event featured four modernist artists whom immigrated here and worked in the early 20th century. Lachaise, Laurent, Nadelman, and Zorach changed art in America. A must-see exhibit.
Great museum. The children's tours are really good and makes them see art in another perspective. They have great photography exhibits. The building was designed by the 'starquitect' Phillip Johnson which is a great plus.
They have literally everything to do with art in America. Super cool for both a historical and artistic experiance.
Always lifting spirits. Wonderful exhibits in a fantastic space.
Truly a proud display of WESTERN ART. On a personal note my husband proposed to me in outside sculpture garden
Beautiful art displayed everywhere!
Small museum of American art. Designed by Philip Johnson.
One of my favorite museums. My wife and I come here often.
Truely, one of my favorite art museums in Texas.
You owe it to yourself to visit the Modern for the architectural experience alone. Also, the restaurants in the Modern and the Kimbell seem to be in some kind of competition to outdo each other, so check them out while you're at it!
I always love going to this museum. I recently chaperoned a field trip with my son's fourth grade class and it was a great and educational experience. The staff were extremely patient with the children and engaged their interest in art by asking some very thought provoking questions.
2nd floor has had the same exhibit for at least 15 years, but well kept and clean. The bottom floor gets new stuff from time to time though.
tolder lady that woeked there was very rude to kids in field trip.
This a great free museum that showcases the romanticized beauty of the west. It is worth the few hours out of your day.
exceptional artwork and a great diversity to choose from. you'll never be bored; never modern design and intellectual feel to the museum as a whole.
I love going to this museum. The permanent collection is lovely and always nice to look at. The traveling collections are always awesome. The museum has programs/activities available during the summer for kids and adults. The best part about the museum is that it is free to the community to experience all types of art and subjects
Always have interesting exhibits. You can see it all in 1 leisurely visit. The museum and parking are free.
Love the remodel. So much more to see.
Awesome museum, especially with the refreshing renovation! Still has the same heart, but even more color and personality than before!
What a welcoming and caring environment to promote an interest in art especially highlighted by their varied educational programs for children and families. There is a provision for everyone - no inconvenience has remained unaddressed. A true valuable asset to Ft. Worth and its neighboring communities and beyond!
This is a great place to spent an afternoon with the family!
Almost a forgotten gem, most of my friends who like art won't go here because they only house American art works, but it's there loss. This place has beautiful architecture, with a wide variety American history, especially that of Western America. Just fantastic.
Love this place ❤️
If you're anywhere near there it's a 100% must see! Would go back again!
At the time of my visit second floor was closed but still - I loved exploring the first floor and mezzanine level. The building was designed by Philip Johnson (he called it THE building of his career). Not a big museum but this place has a quite nice number of masterpieces. From Georgia O'Keeffe, Hedda Sterne, Gabriel Dawe to Remington and Russel - lots of things to see. I especially loved Diana statue and Dawe's Plexus no 34. Admission is free of charge, works mostly 10 am thru 5 pm (Sunday noon until 5 pm) with Mondays being closed. The parking lot entrance is from the Camp Bowie blvd (right above Kimbell Art museum). There is a big patio in front of museum where you can enjoy watching over Fort Worth.
The remodeling and redesigning of the galleries is great! Much more open and airy and updated, curated in such a way that you don't get art fatigue.
Masterpieces in abundance. A place for creative inspiration. Excellent, educational exhibits. Friendly, fun & free.
Remington's paintings and bronze sculptures were amazing. Construction is in progress now and we weren't able to go to all areas.
Great place for an afternoon unfortunately parts of it are under construction but the parts that were open I thoroughly enjoyed would definitely recommend
Valentine's Day was VERY special- thank you Amon! you never disappoint me
Wonderful free museum of American Art. Beautiful building!
Event was well done. The parking and lack of air in the theatre was definitely a negative.
I visited a few years back and recall the impression I had of looking at some of these paintings; the size and enormity of some of them really needs to be appreciated up close. Though many of these were painted during the early stages of photography, the paintings seem to be one of the best ways for the scenery to come alive. Even when paintings worked well as a median, some of the best photography of native Americans had also been on display.
One of mine and my husbands favorite museums. Its free and has a rotating exhibit as well as the loved standards.
Great place been there twice.
While most of the art at this museum isn’t exactly my taste, they had some interesting pieces made by local artists that helped me better understand art in Fort Worth! Also the building was beautiful and the rainbow string installation alone is worth seeing! Best of all it’s free to visit!
The collection is well worth a visit. We love the extensive Remington and Russell collections. Also Stuart Davis and other American art. The collection keeps expanding. The view out the front of the lobby is lovely. The museum is free.
Visited, because a friend recommended it. My son was looking for some inspiration on Western art. We both enjoyed the large selection of pieces. It is SO much bigger than it looks from the outside!
Great family fun and educational for the kids.
Interesting Exhibitions
This small museum is surprisingly good even though I am not very familiar with American art. A number of art-works have a cowboy theme, which resonated in me as I just visited the Stockyards before coming to this museum. The museum also has a small but excellent selection of modern art and photography. The best thing is, admission is free and the museum is air-conditioned. The staffs were very friendly and helpful, and they let me deposit my bag for free. If you plan to visit the big 3 museums (Amon Carter, Kimbell and Modern Art) by public transport, you should visit the Amon Carter Museum first, which is at the top of a slope. Kimbell Museum is halfway down the slope and Modern Art Museum is at the bottom of the slope.
It was awesome to see the painting.
A great museum of American art! Wonderful western paintings and sculptures by Frederick Remington and Charlie Russell.
This museum is excellent, free, and has some of the nicest people in the dfw area. I came from dallas to visit and didn't mind the drive. Worth the experience
Really excellent museum. The changing exhibits are always high quality, and filled with great educational material/written descriptions that help me find a deeper appreciation for the artists on display (while many art museums do this, not all do it well). Staff is courteous and helpful, and the museum regularly puts on some great events. Also, if you just want to sit outside and take in a great view of downtown Fort Worth, their patio and garden is perfect.
This was a fantastic museum! The staff was lovely and the exhibits were so engaging. I loved seeing the Remingtons and the paintings. One of my favorite art museums by far. I felt like I got a glimpse into the artists’ life by how their work was portrayed.
Great collection of american art. Many remingtons casual atmosphere
My kids and I love museums. This is one of their favorite places to go. The employees are very polite. I've always wanted to make art a big part of my children's lives and here they are able to view and let their creative sides loose.
Multiple learning opportunities Family-friendly; great programming
The front desk lady was friendly and informative. The rest of the staff was non-intrusive which was welcomed. The museum was clean and the exhibits were interesting. The most memorable experience was seeing the rainbows coming from the ceiling. The best part was that admission was free.
Are we very interesting to see
Splendid permanent collection and they always have thought-provoking exhibitions.
The staff are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating.
My family and I enjoyed the dedication of photography by the world famous photographer Dave Heath. I tried to snap as many pictures as I could with my Android phone lol. I strongly recommend that if you have children or if you're a couple please check out the Plexus No. 34 (?)
The museum itself is lovely. The art was really beautiful, especially the bronze. I like how there is so much information in the history and methods of the art. The building is in a convenient location. There are cute seating areas outside for cooler weather with an amazing view. My main complaint was that the security employees were so intrusive and made the visit very uncomfortable. Not all of them, but 2-3 of them followed my friend and I from room to room throughout the museum. Neither of us had large bags or were making noise, but at one point one of them rushed into the room we were in as if we were about to do something, and this wasn't even a room with open art, just glass cases. I ended up feeling rushed and skipped a good portion of the museum and left early because one employee in particular was literally walking about 4 feet away from us for the previous 3 rooms.
A beautiful place for a beautiful couple #engagementphotos
Free (donations accepted) and close to lots of other places. Great exhibits. Never too crowded. You can take pictures, most places won't let you.
A great smaller museum. Regretably, I didn't get to see their permanent collection since I went there only for a quick visit to the exhibits but even my short time there was enjoyable. If you're in the area it's definitely worth popping into for a bit.
Fantastic exhibition of Gordon Parks work and his ability to tell so many stories and its FREE...there are several museums in the area...make a day of it...
This is a beautiful museum. The only downside to this review is that I made a special trip here from Austin only to find out that most of the 2nd floor is closed for renovation. I wish this had been posted on their website. They have also stopped selling their full-size art posters.
Very helpful staff, welcoming and warm. The museum is free to view. Any special exhibits may carry a fee but the free parts are a pleasure to view. They have classical, Western, and modern art. Sculpture and painting and mixed media. There is seating area for those who need a rest or just a little more time to view the art.
Always a rewarding experience and a great view of downtown too. 20th century art greats abound, great photography collection and changing exhibits.
Amazing museum, great works of art on display!
A true treasure in Ft worth. One of the best art museums ever and it's free to go to.. so is parking. The Remington's alone are amazing. great museum definitely great place to teach the kids about art
Omni theater is always amazing
Free parking and free admission plus great American art! How can you go wrong?
Amazing museum with works from one of my favorite artists, Georgia O'Keeffe. Pristine galleries and still cannot believe there's always free admission!
Wonderful free museum with a lovely collection. Staff is always helpful and visiting exhibits, which are also free, are often thoughtful and educational. The best view of Fort Worth too! Free little parking lot as well.
The new gallery arrangements and the additional artworks displayed are a nice change for one of the jewels of Fort Worth. The interactive art display on the second level is a really fun addition and a must see!
This is where you go for Remington's and Russell's. They have paintings, sculptures and cool letters that Russell wrote to friends with illustations. Pretty cool. A couple of other cool non-western things there and definitely worth going. You can walk to the Kimbell from there and there IS free parking on the north side of the Amon Carter building. Only problem is, there is lots of construction going on. In fact, it's pretty bad. But, it's manueverable with a little effort. Worth the trip and there's lots of great places to eat and drink in Ft. Worth now.
Great free museum focuses on American Art. Traditional and modern works. Excellent collection of western art by Russell and Remington. Worth a visit.
Great renovation! The art is beautifully displayed.
Really enjoyed seeing the Remington and Russell paintings. That was our main reason for visiting. The other art was interesting...and they had a neat photography exhibit about the Border. All of the staff was friendly and helpful except for one in particular that was giving us dirty looks as we walked around, not sure why...
Jill at the front desk is so nice and made us feel very welcomed! They have a rainbow exhibit that is really cool. Had a great time can’t wait to come back!
The Amon Carter is a small museum, but it packs excellent exhibits. It is also free for everyone. It is peaceful and quiet, it has an amazing view of the skyline. Exhibits change regularly, so experience will depend on those exhibits. The American West was amazing. You have to see paintings up close because they are fantastic and unbelievable.
Excellent world class museum of primarily western art. Free, but recommened donation of $8. Definitely worth the time.
Beautiful place. Love the western art
Had great pieces. Finding parking was not difficult. Very clean.
We went to the Party on the Porch and had a great experience. It was free to get in and there was live music. It was a fun night!
Excellent array of superb art and it's free! You won't be disappointed!
What an incredible gem!
Very good place to know. Lots of great paintings and others.
Nice selection of art drom various mediums. Ir sewnwd to me that much of the art was from the Southwest United States.
Great museum for western art especially Remington and Russell. Also other, contemporary American art.
Excellent exhibits, one section closed for remodel. Love their gift shop. Helpful staff.
Great museum with a wonderful variety of American art. Not busy and art students, they’ll let you sit and sketch without bothering you in the least.
A FREE Museum filled with incredible art and history. Well worth the visit.
Fabulous Collections of American Art - Much, Much, More than their Amazing Masterpieces of Western Art by Russell and Remington - Fabulous Permanent Exhibitions of Paintings, Sculptures, & Photography by American Artists from McCloskey to Avedon - Informative Staff and Guides - Intriguing Special Exhibits: right now, engaging and poignant are the exhibits of: Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath and The beautiful multicolored thread sculpture: Plexus no. 34 by Gabriel Dawe :)))))
This a great little space here in Fort Worth and its another free gallery just like the Kimball. They have an excellent collection of Thomas Cole paintings and a Frederick Edwin Church as well as other artists from the Hudson River School. They also have a magnificent collection of Remmington and Russel Western Art both painting and sculpture.
American Art Museum in Ft. Worth with easy parking, free admission. (donations appreciated)and a warm, wonderful pieces.
Saw Diana weather vane for first time, and the view of Ft Worth from one of the galleries
Fabulous American art, especially focused on Remington & Russell. Can't wait until the second floor reopens.
After a nearly year long remodeling, the museum is open now for member and press advanced previews. It will be open to the general public, at no cost, on September 14, 2019. The exterior work, on the wheelchair ramp to the main entrance, …
I will definitely revisit as I was only able to browse the museum for two hours. Most of the time was spent viewing the section on photography, which was very interesting, but I was able to drift into other areas briefly. Very impressive museum.
I love that it's totally free! The exhibits are fairly small but still a nice little walk with some really cool artwork on display that rotates fairly regularly. It also has one of the best gift shops I've ever seen, and all of the staff is very friendly
A great place to go see art
I went there today to find a painting to analyze for my art class. I felt very welcome in from the time I entered the museum. One of the security guards was extremely helpful in helping me find a great painting to analyze and checked on my very frequently through my visit to see if I found a painting that I could write about. Will be coming back again!
Great museum, limited parking.
Second floor under renovation but gorgeous building with friendly staff loved Remington and Russell exhibits one more I cant recall the name off but it's best seen on a sunny day
I'm am 12 I usually hate museums there so boring but I absolutely love this museum.
The permanent collection is extensive and interesting. The staff are friendly while the collection isn't super extensive it's certainly worth an hour of your time.
Loved this museum
Absolutely love the new setup and we've always loved this Museum. I would highly recommend it. Staff are amazing. Art is remarkable. I would rate it at 100% amazing for all ages.
Worth exploring.
Nice selection of art from within the US. Remington to O'Keefe. Admission is free, donations appreciated. The second floor was undergoing some work, but looking forward to seeing what's next.
Probably the best museum I have been to in a long time. Great art, super staff, absolutely loved the art collection. I will definitely be back again.
One of the best art museums in the country with major permanent works. It captures the spirit of American art better than any other venue I've visited. Truly inspirational.
A must for visitors. Beautiful modern majestic building in a park like setting in the cultural districts. Wonderful selection of old masters artwork and varied traveling collection. This museum is a Fort Worth institution. Suggest you allow at least two hours for your visit.
This is a local treasure telling our American stories beautifully. Check out the evening events for adults. The family events are fantastic and so fun for everyone.
Free parking (somewhat limited). Terrific collect. Nice small gift shop.
It's like melding history with art. Scenes from the old west without Hollywood.
A great regional museum that covers western art. Much more than just Remingtons.
By far one of my favorite museums. Can't wait till the 2nd floor updates are complete!
Free. Nice art selection. Right next to several other huge exhibits. Friendly staff. That's 5 stars in my book.
I have visited Amon Carter Museum since childhood. I always love the Remington and Russell Exhibits.
Loved the Remingtons and Russels
We were recently in Fort Worth and tried this out. What an excellent museum! Loved the Russell and Remington exhibits. Great way to spend several hours.
It's a great museum, and it's free so everyone should go see it ! It's in a very modern building with amazing architecture and a beautiful view of the Fort Worth skyline. For some people the paintings may not be so impressive if one is used to European art, but there are many impressive native American and Western paintings that are definitely worth seeing ! I recommend looking at all of the amazing sculptures which are absolutely stunning and shouldn't be missed. It can get a little boring upstairs because there is a lot of photography, but the unique architecture and layout of the entire building kept me excited to explore. Go see it !
First time for us to visit since the museum finished its renovation - my wife and I really like the new display for Remington sculpture. Utterback and all of the women artists on exhibit are over-the-top excellent! The museum staff and docents are friendly and very helpful - no frowns on the faces of this team.
This museum is essentially the only free museum in the area, one that you truly can see without spending a dime. I believe there is a fee for the special exhibit, but the permanent collection is impressive on its own. Parking definitely leaves something to be desired, as the Will Rogers gets busy on the weekends. Certainly worth a visit
The collections are really good and the exhibits usually fascinating. Staff is always pleasant and the place itself nice, even if not as exquisite as the Kimbell or the FW Modern.
A great evening.
One of the best museums around. I've seen several exhibits here over the years and all were worth the trip.
This was a great mix of Western and non-Western American art. There's a lot of Rembrandts and Russels. They also have a painting of George Washington from his last sitting with an artist. Their O'Keefe's are beautiful.
Even though 2nd floor was closed, Remington painting made everything good.
Love all the art and especially the walls.
We were very impressed with the quality of artwork and the architecture of the building. Like some of the other museums in Ft. Worth, the emphasis is on quality and not quantity. The knowledge o the art gallery attendants was very good. Definitely worth an afternoon (or more).
Love the Western Art, Remington and Russell. Enjoyed the local American and shared art from other similar museums. Will be better when renovation is completed.
I am a huge fan of the work of Frederic Remington and C.M. Russell, so I was thrilled to see a large collection of their paintings, sculptures, and drawings in this wonderful museum. If you love Remington & Russell, be sure to visit here …
Loved it !amazed it was beautiful.Got to check out the gift shop. I bought one the most beautiful necklace there. Wonderful atmosphere.
