You will see all the opinions of real people like you who purchase the products of Pioneer Auto Museum (Museum) in South Dakota area.
At this moment this business gets a score of 4.6 over 5 and that score has been based on 402 reviews.
You may have noticed that it has an average rating is basically the top, and it's based on a very large number of reviews, so we can say that the valuation is quite credible. If many people have bothered to leave their review when they've done well, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to write feddbacks when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Museum belongs to the category of Museum.
Cool stuff, and lots of it!!
Awusom place
Amazing place to learn about car collection. Dave and his staff are very friendly.
I like old cars
Loved this place
Absolutely wonderful to see. The wonderful selection of not only cars but different memorabilia. Super cool.
It was a lot bigger than I expected! More than just cars too, lots of very cool stuff to see there!
Plan at least 3 hours to see everything.
We stopped there for fun since we spotted a billboard on our trip. We were not disappointed! There’s a bit of everything for everyone. It’s a nostalgia shop literally and super well done and kept. Personnel is extremely friendly and happy to answer all your questions. Love the concept and I totally recommend visiting but in a sunny day for more enjoyment! A must stop! We can’t say anything about the food since we just visited the car museum and for ya it was awesome enough.
Very nice auto collection that spans many years. The people working here are very friendly and helpful. You can find most American made antique autos as well as many foreign cars. The H-D & Indians make up a small display of older motorcycles. Plus, farm tractors and trucks fill in blanks with a nice collection. The antiques are nice to see. Many household items, etc... Clean restrooms too. Great place to visit.
A large selection of old cars and other implements.
I stopped in several years ago and had the greatest time. There was so much to see! I took a lot of pictures but I've since then lost them, I can't wait for the opportunity to go again and take more shots. I spent a lot of time there and it was well worth it, I love cars so this was like pure enjoyment for me!
We visited in the off season. Staff was extremely friendly, personally showing us a few special pieces. It is a lot to see, but there is more or less a path through the whole thing, so you don't get overwhelmed. The kids got a treasure hunt to keep them engaged, and even our 7 year old had lots of fun. Dress for the weather, and leave yourselves plenty of time to enjoy. There is also a lot more than just autos.
Friendly staff and awesome gift shop, but for a die hard car guy like myself, the cars were less than perfect for what i paid for, the paint was horrible on some, in correct years, flat tires, windows left down. Top down on one of them.
Great place! Loads of fun and interesting things!
What a joy to stop and check out there museum and food is really good to! If you stop make sure you have tons of time to really enjoy!
Great place to pass the day away!!
Worth a stop if you have an hour to burn and like old cars and antiques, which I do. A lot of the cars aren't restored show winners but are interesting to see none the less. Some of the car buildings could use a little stronger lighting, maybe bring a small flashlight along with you.
This place was incredible the cars and all the old antiques were wonderful to look at amazing history place
Incredible museum!! Tons of great classic vehicles, tractors and unusual items/vehicles (e.g. a hovercraft that may be the first one ever, an all terrain vehicle with tracks, a Model T with tracks on the back for winter snow, a 1956 Subaru van, Elvis' Harley, etc, etc). And of course there's the General Lee!!! The gift shop is huge and has a ton of cool stuff for sale. There's also an attached restaurant (Covered Wagon) that's not operated by the auto museum which has tasty food for when you need a break.
Man you feel young again looking at the old cars.bikes and tractors thank YOU
Great place to hang out at... Need to have some time on your hands to check it all out :). Or in a rush they have a great gift/ souvenir shop!!
Cool place to stop and see neat old cars, tractors, motorcycles, and more. They also have a fun little treasure hunt for the kids.
Its all outdoors but there are a few fans, smells musty/moldy in the different shops, and most of the cars could be nice if they took better care of them. But there were some interesting things, cars and buildings. I only made it half way through and then had a $5 milk shake.
The kids and I had a lot of fun here, for kids they have a scavenger hunt where you look for Clues and get stickers, it's worth taking your kids worth it for adults to see a lot of the historical Vehicles motorcycles and buildings. It's unfortunate more people do not go to places like this. We were there in the middle of the week and there was almost no customers, that made me sad. Seems like in the last 20 years a lot of places like this have closed down, I sure hope this one survives it was worth it
Worth every penny! Nice time to walk, interesting vehicles and well laid out!
It was kool to see some of the antiques, however I was hoping to see the cars fixed up
Amazing a must do if in South Dakota. I will return
Stopped in while traveling on business and it was awesome, I was there for well over an hour just walking around looking at stuff. There is a ton of stuff to see from many cars, trucks, and tractors to basically a miniature town with old buildings and such. I highly recommend checking it out if you are nearby!
Beautiful collections, wonderfully organized. We saw it on the way to the Black Hills and just had to stop on the way home. We read some reviews that were not quite as flattering, but took a chance and so glad we did! Thank you for a wonderful experience. Loved the diner and gift shop as well. If you get a chance it is worth it to stop and walk through. A car enthusiasts dream. ☺
It was a nice stop/rest on our way west. Lots of things to look at besides cars. Most of the cars are "as is", that is, not restored, which is unfortunate. Cute grey cat will shadow you as you walk. $1 off coupon on website.
Pioneer Auto Museum was great, we are so glad we stopped well worth the visit
Go visit, you won't be disappointed. Love the owner,,,,great guy!
11.50 to see cars. Per person
So much to see!
Cool place. It has a lot of old cars.
Great place and a must stop by if you are in the area
An amazing collection of old cars and memorabilia
Very friendly people, and American pickers were here. Really cool old cars, and buildings.
Most awesome car museum in the country.
This is another one of those places that has been a around for years. The two ladies that were working there were very pleasant. If you love cars, this is the place for you. Extensive car exhibit, tractors, and motorcycles. Only complaint would be to have better lighting in the buildings.
A lot of great things in the museum
Very cool! Larger than I expected! My family loved it, had a great time! It's definitely worth the visit, would recommend to anyone. The staff was very friendly and helpful!
Lots of unique items. Fun place to stretch your legs.
This is more than an auto museum. They have just about everything you can think of on display. We were looking at some cars and turned around to see some old computers on a shelf. Well worth the low admission price. Don't tell the owner but it is worth more than they are charging. I guess even the admission price is an antique.
It was a cool stop.
Much fun see all the wonderful pieces on display!
There are over 400 cars tractors and everything that you could imagine from a train caboose to a printing press you name it it's here they even have a Lamborghini tractor here. Very good price to come
We had such a great time walking thru this place. The hubs and grandson loved it!
We visited in winter so the outside buildings were closed. Dave gave us the "family discount" and showed us the first room in the museum personally. He was very knowledgeable and engaging with us and our 4 littles. He then gave us a map and recommendations for our day heading west!
Large indoor/outdoor museum. Fabulous collection of cars and all of them barn fresh! Would stop here again 10/10
Pretty neat collection
Sweetest people and coolest items and cars to look at. The gift shop is the one place I stop at every year on my drive from WA to NE.
Fun place but many of the cars need better protection and restoration.
Don't waste your time
It's a long way if you wanna see cars and stuff good food though, biggest damn pancakes I've ever had
Interesting place. Lots of old stuff besides cars. Friendly staff.
A real neat place with a big collection of anything that anyone would collect. From cars to salt and pepper shakers to pin ball machines.
Every car lovers sweet spot is satisfied here. Thinl of "acres of barn finds".
So Amazing! A must see.
Nice small town to stop for the night while traveling, (iverson inn very nice!) We love the auto museum too, a fun look at our past & many novelty items. we spent 3 hrs there & maybe saw half, supper at the cafe was good too
Staff were very helpful and enthusiastic. Amazing amount of memorabilia including a vast number of automobiles.
Very interesting place lots to see.
It was an amazing experience. They had about everything you would want to see. The owner was there personally welcomed you and the staff was very friendly
Awesome display. Fantastic! Definitely the best I could imagine!
I got to admit my honey knows how to find amazing places to stop too. This was very cool to see. Got alot of great photos of antiques and the family till my phone died. Well worth the stop in the fee to get in period looking for a great adventure in a good time this is the place!
Great old vehicles... must see if you want to see some good history
Great cars and antiques
Cars cars n more cars old stuff in there homes Elvis motorcycle worth the trip admission is cheap.
we go back all the time
Lots of good stuff, outside may make you pass, worth the admission price
Was down right and awesome place, get to see some much history. Its by far a place you need to see!!! The cars are amazing! Even have elvis motorcycle.
If you like old cars or machinery this is a must see
Cool cars, cool people
It wad awesome!
Had a lot of fun, didn't eat at restaurant but looked good. Great way to spend a hour or two.
It's an amazing place.
Huge selection of antique cars and other memoribilia
This place is amazing if you like old cars and antiques. Could easily spend a day here.
The owner is a hoot! Had a great time here. So much to see
Nice place to go to see items from the past that were popular once. Large assortment of things to look at cars, signs, toys, lunch boxes, tools of various types, pictures, fire arms, glass ware, typewriters, examples of old scales and pinball machines, amusement park items including tall and skinny & short and fat reflection mirrors. The list goes on. Too much to list. Also, has a gift shop with some replica items. Just depends on what you're looking for and are a fan of.
Looks great though we decided not to invest time for this along the never ending road... big hall, plenty of cars, a lot to see. Probably one of the biggest of the kind. So, if you are the person who likes auto museums it's definitely a must for you.
Awesome! Something for everyone here, and a great cafe to boot. Amazing collection of everything from toys and appliances, through jewelry and historically significant photos, Elvis' Harley, a Messerschmidt car, farm equipment and movie props, and an epic collection of legendary cars. Also an adorable grey cat.
Very cool. My wife and two daughters were surprised at how neat it was, they expected it to be a boring visit.
This is one of the most AWESOME places I have EVER been! There is something here for everyone! Some of the friendliest folks you ever want to meet, and they let me sit in the Dodge Viper!!!! OH YEAH! Thank you guys so much for a most wonderful visit. My wife, Mom and Dad all had a really great time!
I've been trying to get over here for a year now, finally made it! Lovers of classic cars will not be disappointed...
A lot to see here
Cool. Cold and snowy so only was able to see the front areas yet still very nice collection. Hopefully I can see everything some day.
Good variety of vehicles etc. Lighting could be better in a couple of the display buildings.
We are enclosed car haulers and the Pioneer Auto Museum was a blast. Thanks for all the eye candy.
Pretty sweet place in the middle of no where for a car enthusiasts. We saw the signs and decided to stop. Great decision and really awesome old automobiles. The staff was super friendly and informative. Would suggest it to anyone traveling that way. Saw things I've never seen and probably never will again.
A couple of months ago I was traveling back to Montana. I read about this museum and decided to make a stop. Well I was the only person there however the clerk turned on all the lights in all the buildings and I had history all to myself. Well with the help of their cute kitties. I had THE BEST time. It was like owning all that history. Thanks so much for letting me go through. I'll be back with guests.
Huge collection of all kinds of vehicles, but they could be kept cleaner. Cute setup of the 'town'.
Lovely people and a most interesting collection of all kinds of vehicles and lots of other curios from the past. If you get the chance go in.
This place is fabulous. Everything is well taken care of. Plan to spend the better part of a day. There is something for everyone and lots of things from the past here in our country.
So happy we stopped! James Dean and Dukes of hazzard cars! So many other hidden surprises.
The afternoon desk personnel is very rude
My family and I toured the museum yesterday during the open house, so we got in for $1/person. We really can't complain about that price. It was best "bang for the buck" on our entire vacation. Unfortunately after seeing the well kept cars and other memorabilia in the first building, seeing all the other cars and other items in such poor condition in the rest of the museum was disappointing enough we just did a quick scan of the last half of the museum, then left. Now, to be clear, I don't mind seeing dusty unrestored vehicles; not at all. I enjoy seeing things as close to "as they were" back in the day. What really bothered me is seeing all the old vehicles rotting away in damp humid sheds. These vehicles are sitting in gravel and dirt/mud, some with their rims several inches into the soil. These sheds smell dank, musty, and moldy. There should at least be a vapor barrier of some sort between the damp ground and the vehicle. Many of these vehicles are/will be rotting from the ground up. Several of the vehicles were placed on blocks to keep the rubber off the ground, but many that were on blocks had sunk so deep into the ground that the wheels were also sunk in. Also, being a "gun guy" I enjoyed seeing a handful of classic rifles and hand guns. While I can't speak with much authority on classic cars, I can speak on the subject of gun preservation, and what i saw was also incredibly disappointing. These rifles and revolvers were in cases inside another very humid shed, open to the elements, with little air movement. There was one gun case in which the revolvers are set into pillow-like velvet. I know from first-hand experience that any steel firearm in contact with fabric or leather will rust, especially in such a humid environment. To be fair I'm sure the cost of perfectly preserving such a large collection of memorabilia would be expensive and daunting, but I believe the are a few simple budget friendly things that could be done to maximize the life of many of the items in this museum by quite a bit. How unfortunate.
I've been here two times and each time i loved it
It was amazing. It had all types of vehicle's. I had a great time people were great as well.
If you like cars, this place is like a toy store to see. My son and I try to go every year and we always see something different.
If you love cars, movie memorabilia, pioneer items or many other items too numerous to list, this is the place for you. Located under two hours east of Rapid City, it is the perfect place to stop and stretch your legs while taking in some really fun viewing.
The collection of old cars and other stuff is really impressive. But I was impressed even more by the passion of people working on the museum. They are so helpful and willing to tell about everything on the exhibition. This place definitely worth visiting. Admission for adults is $11,5.
Great place to visit
Huge display of collector vehicles. Worth the time to stop.
Amazing place, if you like cars you'll love what they have.
My husband loved every inch of this place.
Awesome.
There was every kind of car I could think of plus a few more.it was great
A wonderful place to visit. This place has something for every age group. From classic cars that dad can remember from high school to older toys for the kids to check out. Very much enjoyed the time spent here.
It was so awesome to see how time has changed and things have become so modern. It's not just about the cars it's also about the town.
This place has so much more than cars. Stopped in thinking it would take an hour or so to go through. We are going to have to go back, so much to see!
Great price to walk through the museum. It was neat seeing all the old cars.
Fun interesting place, ran by nice people out of Georgia. Lots of fun cars and a great gift shop as well.
#1 VISIT WORTH THE VISIT INSANE AMAZING COLLECTION GREAT ICE CREAM Expect to spend an hour or 2 here to see all the buildings and each collections. Everything is so perfectly set up and organized and maintained. The staff was very friendly and if you're lucky you will get a custom tour narration as well. Pretty cool. The collection is overwhelmingly large and amazing. So much to see. Totally worth the money. Don't forget Ice cream from the Diner on your way out.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed this as did I.
This place is worth the stop. Very interesting collections
Knowing our situation they still made it possible for us to come here! Thank you so much!
It takes more then a he to see it all..A great collection
It was fun kind of dirty and dated but fun
Enjoy this stop very much on the way to our destination which was Custer, South Dakota.
Like Wall Drug it is an I 90 road trip icon. They have a "General Lee". They also house the Geology Hall of Fame. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was it was a bit run down and goes on forever.
I stopped in with the whole family. It's a rather impressive collection of everything from old cars to lunch boxes and everything in between. If you like old toys and farm equipment there is something for you to see also. They have a very nice gift shop, clean bathrooms and have food available. Good value for money in my opinion.
It ain't pretty, but for a gear head they got a lot of cool stuff!
Very cool place. They have tons of antique and muscle cars. Also vintage stuff from old buildings to appliances to tractors to well, almost everything.
Really enjoyed the stop. Second time I've stopped in. Wide variety of vehicles..i had the opportunity to walk with the owner and loved hearing the history of some of the collections. Thank you. I learned a few things about the general. He was surprised with what I knew but at the same time I learned a few things to. He showed me a few vehicle that were before my time. The passion and the love he had for the collection was well worth the trip. I really enjoyed what was displayed. I was a little sadded to see some of the oddities in the elements. If passing by. Stop in. Stretch the legs and enjoy the collection. The conversation will continue back on the road.
I love this place! As a recovering professional automotive mechanic, it’s the closet thing to time travel (back in time) that one can get. It is very easy to spend hours and hours enjoying this collection.
Awesome. He has everything here. Must see
If u like old stuff cars and p/u u will enjoy this place. They have other things like tractor's old tools, boat motors it was worth the money to me.
Fun place to stop and look around especially if you've never been before. The summer is very hot and although some buildings have fans, there's very little air flow because they have the openings covered with plastic vertical strips. Many of the cars sit on dirt or gravel so moisture can easily find it's way into these spaces, and the musty smells are strong. I love to see cars kept in very original condition, but having said that, many of these cars just suffer greatly from serious neglect. Very little is for sale, and what is, is poor quality for the asking prices.
Great museum including more than cars. Tons of cars and great people working there.
Had way too much fun here!! Great for kids as they have a scavenger hunt for them. Lots of toys and suvineres to complete your day and an amazing group of staff. Great old time diner with homemade food. Take your time there's lots too see!!!
Lots of great vehicles and antiques. Definitely worth checking out!
Pretty cool place to stop. We stopped on the way home from the Black Hills area. We sent a few hours but could have spent half a day there. Lots of buildings with different stuff from cars to tractors to old stereo and cameras. Lots of old history and was pretty cool that they had a treasure hunt for the kids. They collect stickers thru the tour and turn it in for a prize. Very friendly staff and also has a place to eat or get some ice cream also. I would recommend to check it out.
Kool place lots of cars and vintage stuff seen a lot of stuff from my childhood
I could spend hours there, sadly we had to leave early for our ongoing road trip to Yellowstone National Park.
Truly incredible for anyone who likes cars at all. There are cars there that you will never see anywhere else in your life. Also the gift shop is pretty reasonably priced.
Very nice people and exciting place to see
This was a pretty cool place I think anybody should go and see it had a lot of cars in the Dukes of Hazzard in their Smokey and Bandit he had several other things besides cars old buildings and stuff to see that the old fashioned I thought it was interesting
Wonderful place for families. Be sure to ask about the free scavenger hunt for the children.
Very awesome place I recommend going and seeing it
Old and not inpress have the van of antique tv show juste to let people ting that tjwy are there false publicity very disappointed
Great quick stop off the highway with people who care. Quite a few items and references to American Pickers.
Place is amazing with all the cars and motorcycles and anything with a motor. Spent half the day there.
Looooots to look at. Nice people.
I'm sure its a great place, but $12 just to look at old cars is a bit ridiculous. They should be honest and place the admission price on all their billboards.
Very nice. Get off the highway. Have a bite to eat and stretch your legs a while.
