We had a wonderful experience at the High Plains Heritage Center today. The staff could not have been more welcoming, pleasant and helpful today. We lost track of the time and didn't realize until we were leaving that we had kept them for 30 mins beyond their closing time. They made no mention of the time and we were treated just as warmly as we were leaving as when we arrived.

As museums go, this is quite small in terms of artifacts, especially in view of the hype. The Sundance, WY is an interesting stop that has quite a number of items early settlers owned. In summer, take a look at the museum in Hulett, WY. All three are too much in one day though.

Definately a western plains life museum. Lots of displays to read ablut. Ranching, farming , horses, cattle , bison, blacksmithing ,indigenous history, rodeo championiships, local fashions over the eras ,saddle making. Histories on local well known ranchers and philanthropic farmers. Second floor has an extensive history on the long time early families of the county and their current descendants

Carla greets us with all kinds of information and we thought the center was great, very informative and overall a great place to visit. Restrooms were the cleanest I have been in while out at public places.

This is definitely worth a visit as this museum does a marvelous job of displaying all aspects of the high plains western culture from five states. The exhibits are arranged in an interesting and logical manner and the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. If you come up from the south an added bonus is to take Highway 14A through scenic Spearfish Canyon

This museum was a wonderful place with excellent artifacts and good place for middle age kids and adults. We took our young kids 1 3yr old and 2 5yr old boys but they were not yet ready ready for this type of thing . But my husband and my daughter 15 yrs and myself loved this place.
