REVIEWS OF Adams Museum IN South Dakota

Terry Randall

It's worth to see the artifacts

david judy

This is a very worth museum. They try to do some old west stuff but only a small section of it is that way, the rest is super eclectic and mismatched.

Olivia Hirschbuehler

Nice museum, especially since it's free. (We left a donation though). Its one of the only good attractions in my opinion. Most of Deadwood's historic district is devoted to casinos, which is not my thing.

Laurel Herbert

It's ok a little boring and not that big

James Juergens

Great place to absorb the history of Deadwood S.D.

Heidi Bee

A must-see family-friendly attraction in historic Deadwood! Feel like you're right there in the thick of the action as you walk back in time inside the museum's three full floors. Your kids won't just read about history, they'll experience it! With multiple interactive exhibits (including a one-room schoolhouse classroom and kinetic sand), this is an excellent educational and fun place for the whole family. Donations are appreciated (and please give if you go!), but admission is free. Don't miss it!

Sally A

Lots of history, facts, pictures, stories. Very interesting to go and see.

Chris Jangula

Great pieces of history!

Visited this museum about 12 years ago. A lot of changes but it is still a nice walk back in history. You can now talk pictures in the museum.

Great collection. Really enjoyed how most display cases had notebooks of info to go along with it.

Hyrum Booth

Spent two hours there without even realizing it. I loved the bios on famous people from the area. Some unique pieces. Way more in there than you would think. What I didn't like was trying to find what numbers by the artifacts went with which description.

Michella Leverette

Add this stop to your Deadwood visit. For a small museum there is lots to keep you reading and learning about the area. There is no entrance fee just a suggested donation. Very interesting things to look at and learn about. I was here over an hour learning about Deadwood.

Paul D'Oyley

Another great place for western history. Plan on visiting for a few hours. Has interactive features for the youth.

Gary Ashley

Worth it to explore the history of the area

alan&sheila Breitzman

Very interesting glad we stopped we learned a lot

Sam Peterson

Great museum. Even if you are not stopping as part of the pastport program I'd highly recommend it. Focuses on the history of the area as well as American history and culture. Has activities in the lower level that can challenge both kids and adults. Only saw 1 staff when I was there so it might he tricky to find someone if you have questions. Also has a small gift shop to buy stuff in

John Mills

If you like Black Hills history, this is the best museum in the area. Adams was the first museum, so they collected some of the most interesting artifacts. I really learned a lot about the real history of Deadwood, and it's characters.

Trevor Knotts

Totally with the time and fee it's a great piece of Deadwood history.

Hundreds of interesting, historical artifacts. A gift shop is inside, but we did not go in. There is a "suggested donation" per person asked for by a worker as you enter. It felt more required than suggested.

Wayne Cordrey

Great history place

David H

It is okay but not necessarily centered on Deadwood history but a variety of artifacts related to city, county and state area. Even if a celebrity passed through Deadwood then there would be something related to that person.

L A Heath

Compact but impressive museum where they have preserved great historical items and stories of the area. We greatly enjoyed it.

Lisa Michelle

Informative and entertaining...friendly staff!!

Ezekiel Juhala

A must see when you visit the Black Hills and Deadwood

Dustin White

This museum looks small but holds so much. A very family friendly environment with lots of activities for kids which allows parents the chance to take in the exhibits as well.

Reza Goljani

The right place to know all about Deadwood!

Mr. Jim

Very interesting place. Great history. Be aware, however, that is not free entry. It's entry by donation and they tell you how much you "should" donate per person with someone standing there watching over you. They should just call it what it is. An admission charge.

Carrie Haas

Great history stop!

Hannah Larson

It was filled with local artifacts which was interesting. However the information was spotty in some areas and oversharing in others. It is technically a free museum but they ask for a donation of $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

Abbie Whitlock

It wasn't that great but a history person may enjoy it.

Roger Myers

Jessica G

The museum is the best way to learn about Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and other Deadwood legends. Open year round. Suggested donation is $5 an adult. House tour was well worth the money ($5) and is a fine glimpse of a grander lifestyle. Closes In October.

Anita Keating

Great museum. We enjoyed it very much.

Ben Percy

Interesting

Judy

Lots of history! Enjoyed all three floors of the museum. The staff was very friendly could have stayed for hours just to talk to her.

Captures the history of Deadwood and the old west pretty well. There are a few small town items that aren't really necessary, e.g., a girl scout uniform.

Great informative museum that tells you all about Deadwood history. It’s a must stop and even better yet, it’s free; although there is a donation box.

Michael Burroughs

Ok place to visit.

Rich Bergman

Cool exhibits

Jeff Swartwout

The story of Deadwood is told here in a quick and easy fashion. A casual stroll trough the different rooms takes about 45 minutes and you leave knowing the place and the people who built it. Admission is a suggested donation and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a must do on your first visit to Deadwood.

minimate masterworks

Beautiful well laid out museum. Very informational. Wish there was more info on Seth Bullock.

Great pieces from Deadwood's notorious history...also, the largest gold nugget found in the area!

donald magnuson

Went here while my teenagers were still sleeping 9:30AM, imposible to get them up before that! Great little museum, enjoyed it very much!

Zachary Finkel

Provides a comprehensive look at the history of Deadwood and the surrounding area. On the first floor is a look at wild Bill Hickok and the industries that built the town. Above is an exhibit on the culture of the native Americans and more modern works inspired by what deadwood became along with many maps of the area. In the basement many interactive exhibits show the natural history of the land and mining efforts. Please play in the sand!

Dan Petersen

Nice displays, very informative!

Netty H

Amazing! We happened upon the Adams museum and were stunned by what is inside. Artifacts and history on all 3 levels. Everyone we were traveling with was amazed of what was inside the museum.

Carolanne Szoke

Look everywhere -The smallest things have their stories too

Genneal Hooper

Hours said they were open at 9 am. Also said it was free. Get there at 9:02. Won't let us join the 9:00 tour and their is a fee. So they missed out on our money and we missed out on the tour as we were on our way out of town.

Kacey T

My family of 6 enjoyed out visit to Adams Museum. TONS of things to see, read and explore. We really enjoyed the hand's on school room - it kept all 6 of us entertained for a while! Definitely recommend a stop for any Deadwood visitors.

We were surprised at the variety and quality of the items on exhibit and the manner in which they were presented. This place makes for an excellent afternoon of browsing for any member of the family. The attendant, Keith, was extremely courteous and helpful. This is the REAL Gem in the town of Deadwood.

There was a lot to see in a smaller space for a museum. It was nice, could spend more time looking instead of trying to see more when tired. Some museums are sooo big especially for older visitors. Items were well marked w/ timelines.

A lot of really interesting things in here you would have never known about Deadwood

Sven Broman

Really cool, donation entrance fee

charles cleveland

Very good place to go and take the family to learn of the history of the area. As you walk up, it looks as if it is a old bank but it was a home. There is not "fee" for going in but they ask you make a donation in at least a certain amount but you can give more. As you walk around it tells you for the history of how deadwood and the surrounding areas started. Tells of things that happened all the way up to the late 80's and 90's. Had a good time with family.
