This Museum is classified in the category of Museum.
I always enjoy coming to this museum. The price is very reasonable. They are always changing and sometimes they are interactive. This time there was something for the kids and for the adults. Vietnam War photos upstairs and fairy tales downstairs with dress up clothes and each story had something to do for the kids.
This museum has a lot of cool artifacts and exhibits, and there are lots of fun activities for children. Unfortunately, the museum shows definite historical and political bias. This is impossible to ignore while looking at the museum displays, listening to audio presentations, etc.
Great information about the upstate and it's historical worth. While not very expansive, it's two floors worth of info and exhibits. Nicely kept and the AC works great on hot days.
Great place to take the kids! We went while they were hosting a Fairy Tale exhibit and the kids loved all the different set pieces and costumes available to try on
I just rejoined the Upcountry museum and took my grandsons to a homeschool class on Alice in Wonderland. The teacher had many projects for the children and the exhibits were very well done. They even had doors that opened with questions on the outside and answers inside! Very clever
Classy establishment, but has poor layout. One exhibit uses the "N" word frequently, which was very offensive and in poor taste. Honestly, I'd skip this museum and opt for the art museum, children's museum, or any of the fine establishments in downtown Greenville.
Small museum, but inexpensive entry fee. Exhibits are all very high-level overviews. There's not much detail about anything and none of the issues really get examined in depth. But it was an enjoyable experience.
This museum has a comprehensive history of the upstateam area with several interactive exhibits on two floors. We went to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit, but spent much more time exploring the Upstate History portion. There were three special exhibits, the aforementioned Norman Rockwell, a Dr. Suess exhibit, which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would, and an exhibit from the Smithsonion. We will definitely keep an eye out for coming attractions. The cost is $6 per adult, $5 for seniors and $4 for kids. It was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Visiting my daughter in Greenville.
Interesting.
Informative about the history of South Carolina, plus it has excellent traveling exhibits.
This was a very informative & colorful place! The personal were very helpful with addition information about the area as well. The display talked about every detail & aspect of the area. I'm not from this state & wanted to learn more about my husbands home. I was able to read, listen, & look at the history like he would have experienced.
They throw various activities for the kids on certain days, and they are always well done, fun, and free. We love it.
Very very informative.
Fantastic displays great staff. Nice place to wander on a hot summer day.
Let me begin on a good note. The staff was very friendly. Now for the rest. For the money its not worth it. An hour viewing exhibits that were broken or missing pieces. My 9 year old daughter didnt have fun at the 3-10 year old recommended dino exhibit. That was suppose to be interactive. It was minimal interaction at best. I was so disappointed. It was a bunch of plaque reading of facts my kids had learned in school. My daughter was so disappointed. She wanted to go for her birthday and it "sucked" according to her.
Stories og Greenville history were very interesting.
Very nice, beautiful building which can be rented out as a wedding venue. Loved the history of the upstate!
For the price I expected a lot more... this was disappointing. The entire thing seemed like an add for Furman University.
Pretty cool.
We loved our visit! Thank you.
I love the UpCountry history museum! They are always changing their exhibits and always looking for something new and exciting to take the place of the current exhibits. The staff try so hard to make your visit and the atmosphere as pleasing as can be. If you're looking for a museum where you can learn about our area's history, then this is the place you want to go.
Interesting exhibitions. Like it!
Very educational I enjoyed it a lot I bought books there at the bookstore
A great way to spend a few hours!
Visited here with my children. Very nice really love the way the building is laid out - with reproductions of the facades of important buildings of the area. I enjoyed the World War I exhibit (although I’m from NC, two of my relatives - one great-grandfather and one great-uncle) were at Camp Wadsworth. My children enjoyed the textiles exhibit as well as the Peanuts exhibit.
Loved the Thomas the train exhibit!
Always interesting, particularly on Furman University Wednesday High Noon lectures, featuring knowledgeable professors in their area of expertise.
Went to the museum for Curious George exhibit. This is a great museum if you want to learn about the history of upstate South Carolina.
Great place for local history, great learning tool for kids
It is a nice museum, very big and is worth your time.
Very nice museum. Great for the family, specially when they have events for the little ones. Friendly staff.
It was fun. Very friendly people. Great place.
The Alice in Wonderland exhibit was lovely
The special exhibits are usually worth the admission but the general exhibits are old and fairly dull. Still today's visit was worth the time.
What a gold nugget right under my feet!!!. Lived down the street 15 years and wish I'd have stopped in sooner....beautiful bldg, detailed exhibits, friendly staff go above and beyond to make you love history!!
Not worth the money
Well worth the $8.00 admission.
Great exhibits friendly and knowledgeable staff an experience worth repeating
Beautiful tribute to the area history. Lovely, kind staff always ready to answer questions. Amazing quality of traveling exhibits changing regularly, many opportunities every year to learn beyond the core exhibits
The Alice in Wonderland exhibit was over hyped. There were some interesting pieces, but it was very small.
Nice not a lot of exibits though
This is a wonderful place. We are so very fortunate to have a place like this I Greenville.
Very dissapointed. Especially for the costs. Limited exhibits, maybe with the lack of history for the city my expectations were too high having visited some of the countries most excellent museums. And though impressive, a collection of Katharine Hepburn's costumes was impressive, did not fit the mood or tone of remainder of place.
We love going here on neighborhood nights (free). The staff people are very kind, and it is obvious they are happy to do what they do. The storytimes are wonderful, and the teachers are always enthusiastic. We especially loved the Dr. Seuss exhibit that was there this month. Some of the exhibits are a bit hard to hear or of minimal interest to children, but there was a good variety of things.
Great tiny museum. We went there for the Alex Ross exhibit which my son loved.
Was cool but is expensive for the size.
Went for the fairy tale exhibit, it was great. The kids all had a great time exploring and playing. The staff was all friendly and helpful as well.
Somehow I never knew this place existed until just a few weeks ago. Not sure how I’ve missed it all this time, but really enjoyed visiting here. Nicely laid out place with tons of great history about our city.
I enjoyed the Dr Seuss temporary exhibit. I thought the Native American and African American sections of the museum where whitewashed. I would be surprised if I found out their was meaningful input from those communities in creating them.
Visually enchanting, it makes you feel that you are walking through Upcountry South Carolina. The Dr. Seuss exhibition was a delight for all ages.
Very informative, well designed, and covered a lot of history.
Loved this place
Love this local museum, great rotating exhibits
Absolutely the best place ever for Upstate History!!! The building and decor are lovely. The photos, displays, and summaries are authentic and informative. The gift shop is unobtrusive and not a requirement in order to access the museum. How professional and nice compared to most places!! Pricing is very reasonable. There will always be at least two traveling displays here, usually from The Smithsonian Institution. These are always wonderful.
I learned so much from my visit.I saw the history of the upcountry and I was amazed. What really got me was seeing through time how the upcountry diversified and unified. With all the racial tension seeing shown on the news,I feel like the upcontry is a loving diverse place and we all can come together for the greater good.
Liked the way they covered the early period. The Vietnam pictures were a special treat.
Went on a field trip with my daughter, and we had a great time!
A wonderful undemanding museum that gives a fantastic overview of the history of the area. The staff was lovely and very friendly. The exhibits were professional, essy to follow and, very enjoyable.
$10 dollars for an adult, $9 for a senior. We stopped in on our way through Greenville and we're beyond impressed. From the layout, to how detailed the information on everything was: it's worth the money. You'll spend anywhere from one hour to two here, and if you love history you'll walk away thoroughly impressed! From B.C. dated Native Americans to the wars, and Pepsi, this museum is packed with every you want to know about Greenville and the surrounding area. At the time of our stop, they also had two other exhibitions open. Thomas the Tank engine and Alice in Wonderland. Hope to stop back in a few months when I'm passing through again to see what's new.
Nice place with great exhibits.
Wonderful place! Actually one of 4 museums in a row. The war in pictures display was very moving. The history of blues in sc was amazing! It was so worth the drive.
Great place to take the kids. If you love history then this is the place for you!
Great place to learn about the history & culture of South Carolina. Need 1.5 or 2 hours to go through in detail.
Went for the marvelous Alice in Wonderland exhibit, stayed to learn about South Carolina history. Delightful experience with my highschool aged nieces.
An excellent regional history museum. It is clean and well organized. Well presented exhibits and acknowledgement of the native people to the area and the complicated relationship with the European settlers. Frank look at the African American experience and slavery. The Piedmont Blues area of the permanent exhibit is a hidden gem of information. It is such a well done highlight of the area’s music history and local greats. It’d be nice to see some of the albums of those artists for sale in the gift shop, like Mac Arnold. Highly recommend all his albums. I’m presently savoring each track of Backbone and Gristle. A track on which Arnold explains his gas can guitar history and plays the song on one. Amazing. A temporary exhibit on climate change was eye opening. There were hands on aspects to it and ways to see how we impact the environment. Another element of the exhibit was an informative student documentary about the native peoples of Alaska, and the climate impact on their communities. One other exhibit highlighted Alice in Wonderland. There were set design models, wardrobe pieces, and a look at some original illustrations from the original work by Carroll. One could compare these to those of the recently passed artist Daniel Santore, who’s work I personally love. There are some other artists’ interpretations of the fable. Well curated. An item of note, the cobblestones that make up the walk outside were the historic ones moved form downtown Greenville
Good place to learn, nice staff
Fabulous museum, wonderful exhibits. Can't wait to return!
I really really just Loved it, and the staff was very helpful. I am going to recommend this place to my friend and family.
Beautiful and detailed, this small but effective museum shows you things about our area we would never know. Great traveling exhibitions as well. Extremely convenient to the art museum, children's museum, the theater, and downtown. Makes for an amazing day trip
I took my family during the Thomas the Train event. He loved the event. I also enjoyed the history.
A great place to go and learn about local history. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Love their place ! They have fun events for kids. Always something new.
Enjoyed the lectures and the different sections of the museum.
Small intimate museum, but had high quality displays. When I went, there were Ansel Adams and Dr Seuss exhibits that showcased unique, not often seen works, esp of Adams, whom I am a big fan. All of the local history displays were nicely done, but some of the information is debatable if you grew up here. Overall a cool place to go if there is an exhibit that piques your interest.
Very interesting and informative. Lots of fun facts about Greenville and the Upstate.
Nice little museum with interesting interactive exhibits
Cool stuff
Fun place, my kids loved it, great exhibits and friendly staff.
Fun and educational for the whole family. Features permanent local history and also rotating exhibits.
Great spot! We liked it so much we had our wedding here! Very nice staff, well put together exhibits & great environment!
Small but interesting museum. Love their neighborhood nights with free admission
Hard to get to. Small but nice.
A must got history lovers. So many cool stories about our area
A wonderful jewel in the heart of this city...
I love coming here it's always a treat.
We enjoyed the Fairy tale exhibit. It featured interactive settings, play items, and costumes for ages 2 through 6 years. The stories were interesting band informative.
Great experience and full of SC's history.
Great museum with great exhibits. Very worthwhile.
If you haven't been, go. Much upstate history.
Pretty cool. I wish there was more displays. It took maybe an hour to go through the whole thing
Always fresh new exhibts
Great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable owners, and a great cup of coffee.
Interesting events, always updated, clean, well staffed, nice gift shop
My daughter & I had a very enjoyable time here. Our visit was for her college project . We especially found the Katherine Hepburn clothing display very fascinating, as I am a old movies buff.
...average....bit artificial
A nice little museum with history and artifacts from the upstate.
Kim (coordinator) is on point, organized, and professional. It was a great time.
Really cool kids museum, my daughter really enjoyed it.
Great Place to see some History
I love this place. Really good for 6 and up.
I was surprised how much liked the Alice and wonderland exhibit.
Museum of local history and host for interesting traveling exhibits.
Very nice little museum other things in walking distance would go back again
Not bad
Though the staff was friendly, I cannot recommend this museum based on the experience I had today. Many of the exhibits were lackluster, which would have been alright if everything was functioning. However, many of the "buttons" for Interactivity in the museum were not functioning. The one thing the kids seemed to enjoy (the stretch out experience in the textiles area) was missing pegs. The dinosaur area was clearly geared for younger kids (the 10 and 11 year old were amused for a moment, but it passed quickly.) Mostly, we paid 40 bucks for two kids and three adults to read a few plaques. Stretching it out, we were there for an hour... The kids were largely bored, as even the facts being taught are stuff they've already learned most of in school already. It wasn't worth it, in our family's opinion.
Me, mere and the girls.. end of a great day.
Very nice museum. We spent an hour and enjoyed seeing ago of it. Lots of talking people and videos. The price was cheap.
Very nice, educational, and a great source of local pride.
The most unique venue our band (Randomonium) has ever performed at a wedding
Nice Alice in Wonderland display
Great overview of the history of upstate SC; plus fun temporary exhibits that appeal to the whole family.
The Dr Seuss exhibit was wonderful. The museum after was nice and reasonably priced.
Many different rooms with diverse subjects.
Very informative. I am not from South Carolina so I know very little of its history. Although this museum is focused on Upstate history, the first floor has some generic state history that helps contextualize the Upstate history.
Interesting but quite expensive
Took my grandsons to the Dr. Suess exhibit. We had a blast!
Nice presentation of info. Fun space design. Kid-friendly area. Nice rotation of visiting exhibits mixed with local history.
Some of the permanent exhibits need reworking
Attended during the Vietnam War in pictures event. The info was interesting, but the exhibits were not particularly engaging. It was not the most interesting museum experience I've had, particularly bit for a Smithsonian affiliated museum.
Nice place to be with your children.
Went to the dinosaur show. We also wandered around the museum. I took a 3 year old, so we really didn't do much. The ship with slide in the bookstore is a great idea.
Very interesting displays. However this is not a great place to take younger children. We send on a field trip with 3rd grade. That is the youngest I would take. You are not supposed to touch anything.
A great layout covers the name & is always supported by great traveling exhibits. Very affordable.
A bit overpriced for what it is but the Curious George exhibit was cool. The kids had a great time.
This museum is top notch. Much attention to detail, layout, and beautiful displays. It is as much art as information.
Expensive for families, and much too careful about slave history. Beginning was promising, but not enough to engage or stimulate. No particular heart.
A really neat place to visit and learn some awesome local history. The temporary exhibits are really fun! The staff is very helpful and friendly too.
I was a little disappointed. We visited the at museum for free first and it was larger. This museum required admission payment and wasn't great.
Worth the Visit while in the area
Some interesting stuff. A little dark inside and layout is a little confusing but still worth checking out.
An awesome and cool place that I feel no one else goes to. It's such an informative place for a history nut like me. Love it
Extremely disappointing trip. Went specifically for the dinosaur exhibit. Online description is very misleading. Our 6 yr old walked into the dinosaur "exhibit" and immediately said "this is it". Family of 4 and we went thru the whole museum in 30 minutes. Nothing engaging at all and minimal actual artifacts. Waste of money.
Unique interior architecture. I attended the New Years Ball here. Great atmosphere. Great place for evens.
Very nice.
Amazing works of art.
Interesting and educational in an entertain way. When we were there they had a great interactive Dinosaur exhibit for kids and a fun Charles Schultz exhibit. The area history exhibits were fascinating.
