If you enjoy history or ships or the Charleston harbor, you HAVE to take the time to go. Plan for an entire day...Im sure we missed out on some stuff but well worth it!

Sarina Nickerson-Roher

Nice area. We went at night to get pictures of the bridge. Would have loved to make it during the day... next time

Greg Lane

Absolutely amazing! Google says average visit is 1.5 hours, this is completely wrong! I would plan at least 5 hours or more for the visit. We were there about 4.5 hrs and had only gone through the Yorktown (it was a hot day, 105 heat index) Gonna go back again to see the rest. Best $24 I've spent in a very long time! Very friendly staff / volunteers. Can accommodate many visitors with no wait time. Parking was only $5 for the day.

Eugene Witt

Lot of history here. Makes a great day trip.

alton cherry

A good spot to spend the day although I thought it cost a bit to much. I enjoyed touring the ships since I have never been close to a carrier. The exception was the submarine which was hot and tourist where jammed up in the middle of it leaving everyone to get steaming hot in a short amount of time.

Ryan Bingham

So much to see! Definitely could be here for 2 days seeing everything.

George Burns

This is a great place to appreciate our history and how much our freedom actually cost. The tours are self guided. The ships can be hot but have several air conditioner areas. Most areas also have fans blowing. Pace yourself. The destroyer is one of three remaining WWII destroyers left. Several volunteers are vets, so be sure to thank them for their service. You will get a real sense of what life is like aboard these US Naval vessels. Vending and a snack area is available. Entry fees are a little high, but worth it when you consider the cost of maintaining these treasures. Thank you!

The Jedi Crystal

Favourite childhood place to go. Love the history and it's so fun to go thru all the sections

Kickin.it. Retro

Nice historical place. VERY hot inside the ships lol would definitely make sure to go either earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon next time to beat the heat a little!

M

When you enter here you're accessing a piece of history. It's a time of great efforts and struggles. An era of epic victories and advancement. You must visit this place and you must see by yourself the aircraft carrier and all that it contains.

Travis R

So much history in one place. You better see the submarine before it rusts away though, the exterior is in awful shape, but the inside looks like it could go to war again right now if needed. The Vietnam experience was accurate to even present day combat outposts.

Kimberly Melton

Great place for anyone to visit!! We visit it every time we go, and it never gets old! Our 7 year old also enjoyed it.

Charlotte Harmon

Everyone that comes to visit Charleston, or even lives there, should visit Patriots point. A lot of history in our country is there. Great place to take your kids to fill them with the history of how people fought so hard for the country they live in. There are great your boats that take you to certain spots around Charleston with very informative tour guides. The gift shop is great. The only thing bad I can say is, that the bathrooms were hot and gross.

Star Gazer

I stayed on board the Yorktown many times in Scouts, I can't get across in writing the feeling of walking through this history. You just have to go and see for yourselves. Our nation's heroes lived, ate, fought, and died right there where you'll be standing. Feel the freedom running through the bulkhead like electricity.

Juana Sosa-morales

I went on the fort Sumter tour and it was amazing. And the gift shop was not your usual expensive shop and had lots of things to choose from. Loved the whole place. Would definitely visit again.

Emily

Really great exhibition of US Naval ships. It was a huge amount of walking to see everything...but well worth the extra steps. Plenty of hands on exhibits too!

Tamiann Adams

This is an absolutely fantastic field trip sleepover for JROTC I'm so glad I was a chaperone on the trip it was a great experience.

Jennifer King

The ships were very cool, the Vietnam area was very well done but the lady that worked on Tuesday August the 27th that was giving rides back and forth from the ship to the Vietnam area was on her phone most of the time and wasn't watching for people coming back . My husband has had back surgery and needed a ride but she wasn't watching for people coming back .

Cyndi D'Alessandro

Enjoyed our tour of the ship. It definitely is and all day afare. Wearing sneakers are a plus.

Yolanda Lipscomb

I was here to board for a dinner cruise. This port was beautiful. There were quite a few historic monuments there along with a humongous air craft carrier sitting on the water. The view was amazing. The parking lot was well lit which was comforting because it was 9:30pm when we docked. Great place to visit.

Sandapaperdaisy Art

Utterly fascinating. You could easily spend all day here. We couldn't even see everything our first visit, there was so much. And very touching. We even met a USS Yorktown veteran while exploring the medal of honor museum.

Megan Thayer

Really great experience for the whole family! Parking was cheap, and you pay additional once inside to tour the ships. This is also where one of the boats leaves from to go to Fort Sumpter. They also have a gift shop, bathrooms and a concession stand.

Pauline Hodges

Did not think we would spend as much time here as we did. Took us about 6 or so hours, and we didnt get to the Vietnam Experience. You are on a self guided tour, so you can go at your own pace, and see what you want to see. Also you can take a harbor tour from here or go to Fort Sumter. We enjoyed the Harbor tour, and you get a nice look at the Fort.

Pamela Gartman

This is a must see on your visit. We have a family of 7 (all teenagers) and we all really enjoyed it. We took the boat to the fort and toured all the ships. Definitely walked away for a new appreciation for our men and women who served on theses ships. I would say for sure add this experience to your trip!

Dulce Hall

The amazing exhibit, knowledgeable people that enjoy their job and it shows. Great place to take your kids to see World War II airplanes, Splashdown pods from NASA, and learn some history. The Medal of Honor Museum is a solemn experience when you read about the acts of Bravery these people have performed.

Ron Bazer

The ship was enormous and the collection of war time planes was impressive. Great place to learn more about and further appreciate those that served. From the engine room to the flight deck their is a tour for you. If you haven't thanked a veteran lately, for the Yorktown and you will make due you take advantage of the next opportunity to do so.

Jerry Chavez

Great place to visit, lots of history in this one place. Would definitely recommend this place. Walking through the ship was amazing. Really cool to see different parts of the ship.

Jen Jon

Had alot of fun looking through all the old ships and learning about them. Make sure you have your walking shoes on and about 4 or 5 hrs of you really want to explore everything.

Carla Fuggat

This was an amazing experience! Prepare to be there for a few hours.

Gregory Wieserman

A definite must-see for Veterans especially Naval Veterans. It will bring back a lot of memories for some new experiences for others. The tours are very informative and highly recommended. Keep up the great work at Patriots Point.

Peter yohe

Excellent trip back in time. A floating time capsule full of history and stories. Very well taken care of and worth the trip to Charleston, SC.

Clark Rowe

Awesome experience. Self-guided tours of an aircraft carrier, battleship, and submarine from WW2. The effort put into turning these ships into museums is immediately apparent in both the quality of the exhibits on board the ships as well as the campus of Patriot's Point. The food at the fighting lady is decent. The staff everywhere I encountered are incredibly friendly. The available harbor tour (additional fee I believe, i went with a boy scout troop) was about 90 minutes and accompanied by a talented orator. I highly recommend the entirety of Patriot's Point!

Cchaddie Fairchilds

Great place for a date day. Me and my friend wanted to try something new and decided to go to the zoo. It was fun and adventurous, there were some animals that weren't there that we wanted to look at, but oh well. Overall, great place!

Ron Clabaugh

Great remembrance of history. Kids really enjoyed it. Thanks for the experience!

Juan Rostro

Every time it's a new experience, great tour and nice service. And meet awesome people, wish I should get they info so we can keep on contact. Great place

Lori Smith

Our family really enjoyed our day here. You get to explore the ships on your own and spend as much time as you like on them. It was really neat seeing how the men lived on the ships. I also really liked the Vietnam section. Even if this isn’t your thing, you will enjoy it.

Loren Tatum

Fun for the whole family. Had to pay to park. Lots of small stairs and close military hallways and rooms. Use caution if you get claustrophobic or are scared of tight spaces. The submarine was hard to climb through and really made my skin crawl but I made it through and it was super interesting. Wear lots of sun screen and bring more to reapply. Bring a water bottle to refill at water fountains because it gets hot in summer with the sun beating down on metal. Took about 3-3.5 hours for two people in relatively decent shape with interest in the history of the ships to go through all 4 exhibits. We also had a snack. Next time we'll ride the ferry and the helicopter because we regret not doing those two things.

Tim Pashuta

The whole experience was great you have to come and see all the exhibits

Zander Farr

Many fond memories of this place from the Young Marines and Boy Scouts. I would definitely take my kids there when I have them. There is no service inside the boat but it is a USNC retired boat

Damian Bramlett

Great locally operated museum featuring Medal Of Honor and Vietnam Experience exhibits. They offer a discount to military and Veterans, and free entrance to active military in uniform. They do not accept America the Beautiful membership cards since the Yorktown and other sites are not federally operated.

Bill Kilbey

See the team at Eruditio for all your reliability training needs. Great place for a corporate retreat or meeting.

Jeffery Lang

Enjoyed the History!! Excellent very informative, and super workout if you tour all 3 ships!! Thank-You Vets

Chris Williams

This visit was great! Plan on spending a couple of hours here if you plan to see most of the things available. We toured the aircraft carrier, the destroyer, and the submarine. Each one was great and had tons of information about the vessel and the missions it went on. There's also a rather large setup you can walk through all about the Vietnam War. Between everything there it's an impressive display of history in a compact area.

Kale LeBlanc

Great place to visit. One of the four aircraft carrier museums in the country and then there are so many other things to do.

Jennifer Smith

This was my second trip with my 11 year old having taken my older son at this same age. They have added some exhibits and was even better than last time!!! The volunteers are awesome and very engaging with the kids. The ships and submarine give a sense of history not felt from a book, classroom, or documentary. A must see for all ages. Thank you again for those who serve!!!

Jonathan Whitlatch

WWII Maritime archaeologist. One of my favorites. I love this place. Great boats (and other displays - aircraft). Well taken care of. Great displays. And wonderful honor to the men and women who have served and educational experience for out future generations.

Elizabeth McFarland

Great history lesson. I learned a lot about each vessel. The USS Yorktown had several different self guided tours to choose from. Be prepared to walk and climb!

Nate Elston

We toured the Yorktown, Laffe and submarine. All were neat and worth the visit if that is your sort of thing...and we saw dolphins. Also the chips and cheese we got from the cafe may have been previously sacrificed to idols in a burnt offering, I am going to assume that was an added bonus as part of the wartime mess experience and call it authentic, we weren't there for the food.

Jeevan Immanuel

First of all this entire tour will take you at least half a day, so plan accordingly. Second this involves lots of walking, climbing stairs, sometimes in tight spaces so be prepared to space it out. Having said that this packs a punch on your trip to Charleston. No trip to Charleston should be done without seeing this place. It has history, lots of memories, tons of information, plenty of places to take pics, it’s interactive etc. More than you could ask for. This is also the best place to take pics of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. bridge. The views of the bridge and the marina are breathtaking.

Jacquetta Govan

Went for dinner on the Spirit Cruise line. Due to rain, we didn't leave the port, but it was still nice. The naval ship was also awesome.

Krystle Burgess

Went for a school tour. Very informative. Great tour guides!

Karsten Sedmera

Nice self-guided and docent-led tours of the fort and 3 ships, with decent discounts. Also helecopter tours, cruises, and ferries to explore the broader area. Only knocking a single point for their not providing better info ahead of time for planning your visit most effectively, given the limited hours for the fort and especially the 3 ships.

Ole Helbig

If you are in Charleston this is an absolute must see! Here you touch history at its heart and have the opportunity to get a feeling how it must be living and working on an air carrier. The USS Yorktown served in WW II and is now a museum with a lot to explore and interact. Really impressing. We could not have the time to explore also the outside museum or the othe warship and submarine. We booked also the boat tour to Fort Summit which I also can only recommend.

Shawn Hughes

A lot to do here. A lot of history. From tour of fort Sumter going to see and hear about the sbot around the world. Seeing and hearing all the history there to going on an aircraft carrier and seeing first hand how the sailors live. Its amazing.

Lenna Smith

A great view into American Naval history and what it was like to live on a carrier. My Daddy was on a carrier in Vietnam. It amazes me that a ship can hold an entire floating city and all the aircraft the bring freedom right to your doorstep.

Jessica Jernigan

Lots of history. All day venture. We did uss Yorktown, the smaller ship, the submarine and the Vietnam experience. Enjoyed it all. We love self guided tours. We did it at our own pace. Wear comfortable shoes. I don't think we'd do it again because we saw everything, but we would definitely recommend it.

Angie Villarino

What an breathtaking experience, that is something that is imbedded in my brain only the strong and the brave is an understatement.. I am grateful to all that have served for our freedom and our country. I went into a sub and that was something I didn’t expect the men and women that served in the sub I can’t put it into words.. here are some pictures... thank you to all the men and women that served!!!!

Myrtle Vaughn

It's a great day trip. I recommend checking the days to avoid being overwhelmed by tourists. Also a great place to watch fireworks. A lot of history here. And some pretty spooky ghost stories to boot. I personally know people who do not believe in ghosts who worked overnight in the ship and were quite shaken the following day.

Aaron McIntyre

Amazing exhibit, knowledgeable people that enjoy their job and it shows. Great place to take your kids to see World War II airplanes, Splashdown pods from NASA, and learn some history. The Medal of Honor Museum is a solemn experience when you read about the acts of Bravery these people have performed.

Ashley Strickland

Fort Sumter tours was amazing. Definitely very educational. Use your time wisely on the island though.

Queens of Bridges

BORING TOUR, the kids were confused on what was going on, each lesson was unfinished and no clear direction. Would have loved to actually "tour" the ship. Didn't even see all the planes on the deck.

Donal Wilhite

An amazing day trip location. The Vietnam section is a must see. However I would aim to go in spring or fall. It was exhaustingly hot in the summertime.

Kimmy Hammond

If you love military history, this is the place to go.

Matt Mansell

What a fun place. You probably won't see it all in one day so plan out what your most interested in unless you can revisit. Lots of parking but its $5. Definitely worth the time.

Krys G

Interesting, family fun, and educational. This is a must do while visiting South Carolina. We enjoyed our visit very much!

Lisa Meers

Lots to do at this place. Great history. Love how patriotic it is!

John Pishotta

So many things to do, even if you aren't necessarily interested in history. From the ships to the Vietnam Camp, a must see. For the best experience, plan on spending 4+ hours exploring.

Amanda Chase

Such a fun place! There is so much to see and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. An aircraft carrier, destroyer, submarine, Medal of Honor Museum, and more! Definitely a must see if you are in Charleston.

Trina Sentell

Be prepared to stay for hours if you want to see everything and everything we did in about 5 hours. Don't miss the Vietnam experience and all the video clips available. Wear comfortable shoes and there are a multitude of steep steps and tight places if you decide to look inside the submarine but it was all worth the money and the time.

Ronnie Doty

Great place. Self guided tours. Lots of up and down steps on tours. Probably not for small kids or older adults but a great look at a destroyer and aircraft carrier.

Eric Mahala

Enjoyed walking around here. It had been 30 years since my original visit.

Michelle Hunt

I've been here several times. More recently the haunted tour. So much history. While can require quite a bit of walking and climbing, it is well worth it. Plan for several hours.

Claire Crawford

I enjoyed the museum. We walked the aircraft carrier and the submarine. It was cool to see the interior of the vessels. If you go during the summer, it is kind of hot on the ships. They do have some air and fans going which helps. Very informative and I enjoyed the gift shop which had some nice souvenirs.

Virginia Riley

We toured the Yorktown and the other navel vessels. Lots to see! I was very impressed with the Vietnam War section. The volunteers were mostly Veterans, which was awesome. They shared their own stories with my family. Thank you to the Veterans.

Jose Fil

What a great sight to see. I loved everything about this place even the gift shop was awesome.. The Sub was incredible how the lived and served on such a crapped area. the Vietnam section was awesome too.

N Elias

You can spend the whole day here exploring the ships, submarine and Vietnam war displays. A great place to spend time with family and friends learning about military history. They offer free admission to members of the military in uniform and discounts to military members not in uniform. You can access the site via ferry service if you don’t want to drive. There is a gift shop and place to eat near the Vietnam displays and also on the aircraft carrier. Many of the static displays are not roped off so you can see them up close. Well worth the money if you are a veteran or military history buff.

Alastair McKenzie

Set aside the best part of a day for Patriots Point. There are some historic ships and aircraft here that deserve lots of attention, plus, on the shore there's the excellent 3-acre Vietnam Experience. I've written about it in more detail on Mechtraveller.

Nancy BATES

The Viet Nam experience was so informative. My husband went on the ship and loved it. I would recommend this side trip in Charleston

Eric Pettis

This is a MUST for anyone who enjoys WWII history! My father and I spent the entire day here, and honestly, we could have spent more time touring the ships and sub. The Vietnam War exhibit was also very cool! I was blown away at how cheap the ticket was for what you get to see. Truly a gem and awesome tourist spot in Charleston!

Melanie Scheibenpflug

One if the best, if not the best displays ever. No one in the area should miss this. The volunteers are friendly and extremely helpful, the self guided tours are great. The Medal of Honor Museum so well put together! Amazing! Nicely done.

Kimberly Galloway

Great place to spend the day! We did the USS Yorktown and Fort Sumter tour and it was amazing! Lots of walking and climbing stairs but it was amazing to feel the experience! I have two small kids and they didn’t complain once about all the walking. The boat ride out to Fort Sumter was nice and to read the history and see what all went on..I definitely recommend, be prepared to make it an all day tour to get the best out of everything! All staff were extremely nice and pleasant! Will definitely be back and bring more family!

David Lawson

I have been several times over the years but have yet to see it all. This time we spent about 2.5 hours going up stairs and ship ladders but it was the most fun I have had there. We went through the engine room, galley, bridge, hanger, and flight deck. There is so much to see and very educational. We loved the new Vietnam Experience. The sounds, buildings, and videos were great.

Pieter Oosthuizen

Amazing, humbling experience to walk where these heroes walked. It gives you a whole new level of appreciation and respect for our service members.

Jeff Sullivan

A great trip into Naval history. Just note that there is a parking fee of $5 to go with the entry fee. Ex military discounts available. Recommend visiting in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat.

Jennifer Hamilton

I work at the location as a contractor. They have a friendly and helpful staff. Audio tours are available as well. Knowledable and super friendly volunteers. I love history personally so working here is a win-win for me. I love telling guests about all that is available to them because their faces literally light up. I personally like the exhibit of the Battle of the Midway. There is a ramp built to show the exact pitch of the ship as it was sinking, creating a sensation that allows guests to experience a fraction of what the soldiers experienced while the first Yorktown was sinking. I always take my new hires to see that exhibit.

Susan Page

Went on the helicopter ride and saw all the lighthouses

Nicky Beale

Great afternoon visiting the Yorktown. Wonderful volunteers showed us any area of the boat we wanted to see. Cool gift shop.

Greg McDonald

Seeing all of this for one relatively low cost of admission was excellent. The Yorktown is incredible. There was a lot to see on the Laffey, and checking out the sub was fun as well. There are some great items on display at the Vietnam exhibit as well. This place will take you hours but is absolutely packed with Naval history.

Mohammad Al-Failakawi

Good place to see the carrier and fighters. I wish we were able to get into the cockpit of the Jets on the roof.

Brandi Owens

A boy's age 6 and 7 absolutely loved visiting the USS Yorktown! They really enjoyed getting to have the audio tour. And riding the water taxi!

Michael Mefferd

Charleston icon. Nice Naval Museum. Great place to watch fireworks. Nice marina and golf course and restaurants. Some spectacular views of sunsets. Great place to see events and boat shows. Find memories with my boys. Plenty of parking for big events. Additional parking and surrounding areas and neighborhoods.

Sandra Bowman

A MUST see!!! You can pretty much tour the whole carrier, battleship and submarine. There is also a small Vietnam Experience area where they display and explain some of the history. Plan on an easy 4-5 hour's of walking and stairs. Only sharing a few unedited photos as not to ruin the experience.

Katt Clay

Wonderful day trip. Be prepared to walk. Visit both ships and the sub.

Tess Dimick

Like 68 bucks for 3 adults (one whom is military) and a child. Several tours can take hours if you want to really enjoy it all slowly. Hot! Bring water, plenty of water fountains around for refills. Lots of ladder climbing and thousands of steps so wear comfortable clothing and shoes!

michael bellah

If you are a history or military buff it's a must see! Lots of planes to see on the aircraft carrier with 5 tours taking you through. A tour of the destroyer, and a submarine. Excellent!!! *NOTE Of Caution* very tight spaces and steep steps.

Michael Lynn

My my family and I had the opportunity to stay Friday and Saturday night on the Yorktown with our Cub Scout Pack. It was a wonderful experience for any history lover. An excellent opportunity for young boys and girls to see first hand what it was like to be on a WWII aircraft carrier. The Vietnam exhibit was excellent as well. And Fort Sumpter is out at the edge of the bay. So much to see and learn about WWII, Vietnam, and the Civil War.

Ravindra Jadhav

Best place to visit. Ther are two ships. One is a big one and other small one. It's almost a day trip. You will need at least 4-5 hours to see all tours inside ship. Advised to go during little cold day. You have walk more inside and steps to climb to all floors of ship. Make sure you have proper food, there is snack shop inside but very less options. There are movie clips inside in theaters and that's included in entry fee. Overall must visit place.

Aindrea Dunton Hochadel

It is always a pleasure to take time and visit Patriots Point. I visited as a child and now visit more frequently with my husband...they have made many improvements and something is always different/new when we visit. No complaints whatsoever. I am thankful that they continue to improve and add to the whole experience. Anyone who likes history or is intrigued by learning will enjoy this place. *Definitely allow yourself time to explore and absorb everything here.

hamburgdp

We had a really good time at Patriots Point today. Even though it was a Sunday afternoon, it was not unpleasant or full, and waking through the aircraft carrier was interesting and fun. The Vietnam experience was also unique, educational and enjoyable. Ticket buying was easy and smooth. Not a cheap attraction at $24 a pop, but it seems that the money is serving a worthy cause. Only warning: on a hot day, this visit has its challenges, as a good deal of it is outdoors.

Chris Smith

As a professional event photographer in Charleston, I have the privilege of photographing in some pretty amazing places! Last week I had the honor of photographing a really neat event that was held on the hanger deck of the U.S.S. Yorktown!!! How cool is that?

Crystal Gail Berardi

I was pleasantly surprised how fun it was. Kids will love because the ships are like a maze. We went later in the day when there was less people and not as hot. Give yourself at least 2 hrs and 4 if you're a big history buff.

Ray Spell

I loved the memorial, museum, planes, and the ships. The Fireworks 2019 Blast aboard the USS Yorktown was the best show I have experienced on Independence Day. Being disabled and using a powerchair, the USS Yorktown was completely accessible. The Patriots Point staff and Mt. Pleasant police force were courteous and professional. I highly recommend it to all demographics.

Jimmy Wright

I liked it a lot I learned a lot if u ever get a chance to go see it go

John Wilson

Went on a trip to this destination with the Cub Scouts not only where it was the customer service amazing but the quarters were super clean and the food was fantastic

Barbara Neill

A very pleasant surprise. You actually need a couple days to see & experience everything there. All included on 1 tix. It is not just the USS Yorktown, which itself is worth seeing. They have an Vietnam memorial with a real-life setting. They did an amazing job with that entire set-up. A must-see!

Kevin Fay

I first went here as a kid about 2 decades ago, and have gone 2 more times since. It is still awe inspiring. The USS Yorktown CV-10 is the highlight. From my first visit I have been impressed with the amount of access there is to the ship. From the engine room way down in the ship, to the bridge up in the sail. this ship must be seen to be appreciated.

Ben Hardin

Wonderful place. Come early if you want to see everything. Otherwise tours 1-3 on the carrier will show you a good portion of the vessel. If you are short on time I recommend, seeing the destroyer and sub first and then start with your 1 on the carrier. Awesome experience!

brenda boyd

Best tour we took. Loved the guide she was excited to tell the story of Charleston Harbor. Recommended for everyone.

constance brown

This was a wonderful experience for both myself and my children. Do be sure to wear comfortable footwear though, since you will be doing a lot of walking and climbing stairs. I can guarantee that it is worth the trip and the walking though.

Lisa Ketchem

Very informative and interesting to be able to walk through the vessels and see what it was like back during wartime. The Vietnam experience was amazing as well. Definitely worth a return trip for us. And if you get a chance, do the Yorktown ghost tour.

Robin Eslinger

Spent all day touring with audio tour. Loved the viet nam attraction too. Snack bar food was bot good. Everything was great. No AC so dress for heat.

Joseph Domenick

Lived there for 10 years and loved it. The people are wonderful and friendly. The area is smaller than Corpus Christi, which is the same kind of atmosphere, but Charelston and Mount Pleasant is beautiful all year long. I always recommend to people to visit. Thank You South Carolina for the good times.

derek jolicoeur

I've been in Charleston for 5 months now and this was my first visit. I wish I came sooner, this place is awesome! I definitely will be back I didn't get to spend enough time here. I highly recommend checking it out!

Sherry Tucker

Took a boat tour around the area, saw some dolphin, saw some beautiful old houses, saw some historic buildings, learned a bit about Charleston. Well worth it!

Luke Selinger

The yorktown is great the laffey was great and the clamagore was cool, to see how people lived on those naval ships are astonishing

Anthony White

Patriots Point is just a plethora of history about the sacrifice many made during various conflicts of war. Even during a rainy day, we were able to spend hours wandering and learning about. This location offers an elevator for those whom are handicap or have strollers. Family friendly throughout. It's rare to find a decommissioned aircraft carrier open for tours. Take advantage if the opportunity if you're in Charleston!

Sue Mattucci

Spent 4 hours here but could have spent more. Recommend the 6$ audio tour. Lots of extra content with veteran accounts/personal stories. Lots of walking, narrow stairways, trip hazards and tight doorways but easily managed with care. We were often by ourselves as it was not crowded on a Tuesday am. Took uberxl from Charleston for 16 dollars.

Jo Bay

Just wow. Totally worth the $24 entry to see all the sites. Plan for a full day if you want to get all the cool little details.

Matthew Gooding

We thoroughly enjoyed the Patriots point experience. The 3 ships and Vietnam experience have a lot of historical and amazing sights. The Yorktown has multiple tours on it so that you can see most of the carrier along with the aircrafts. They have a Doolittle raider which was super cool. The Vietnam experience has several movies that really help understand just a tiny bit what it was like for soldiers. I would highly recommend. As a bonus, from the top of the Yorktown you can take amazing pictures of downtown Charleston and the ravenel bridge.

Wesley LaKous

If your in to history or just looking for sonething to do in Charleston this is definitely the spot! Great tour guides and tons of awesome extras for the whole family

Brenda Corbitt

We visited the middle of July...it was very hot. Recommend going when it is cooler. Also, be advised there are A LOT of stairs. Both the Yorktown and the destroyer were very interesting. Lots of things to see and learn about. Also, the Vietnam Experience was very well done. That was much appreciated, since my Father served there for 2 years. The entire day was well spent there.

Davis

This is a great museum aboard an aircraft that was actively used in missions in the Pacific Theater during WWII. I brought my dad here when he was visiting and he could not stop raving about how great it was. There are also over 25 planes to explore. A great visit!

Ryan Algino

This was my first time here and I loved it. I only had two hours to spend there before they closed and I wish I had another couple of hours to do more than walk through the carrier. If I'm ever back in Charleston, I'll definitely go again.

Clyde Hudson

If you like history this is a great place for you. Lots of things to see and experience. Well worth the time.

Michael O'Brien

Patriots Point Maritime Museum is a fascinating piece of our nation's military history. The information provided through written descriptions, videos and interactive displays transport you through time and give factual and extremely interesting depictions of the world at those times and the situations our nation and service men and women had to endure. Taking a glimpse back in the past with all of the planes, jets, helicopters and space modules and vessels give a true to life experience of what our brave military had to work with and the technology that was once state of the art. What a great place for young and old to come learn about, appreciate and respect our military, past present and future, and pay homage to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our way of life and our freedoms. "All gave some, some gave all."

Beautiful place. There is no air conditioning on the Yorktown tour (aircraft carrier/museum), the smaller destroyer, or the submarine (yes you can tour the sub!) I don't recommend going into the sub it you are afraid of tight spaces, as the hallways are narrow and doorways are fairly small. If you are trying to read all the material in the museum tours, it will take hours. In terms of accessibility, they have a golf cart that ferries tourists out to the Yorktown if desired, or you can walk. There is also an elevator available that goes from the pier up to the flight deck.

This was a great museum. Be aware that if you go on a hot day, the ship gets very hot in the lower levels. There are some areas of A/C to get a break, water fountains and restrooms throughout the ship. On the main level, it is cooler due to giant fans and open sides. It should be noted that there are very steep stairs. They have railings on both sides and my 4 year old did great. 2 year old needed a little help. An older adult may not be able to go up or down the stairs. Also, for those of you who may not be aware (such as myself) the tours of the innards of the ship are claustrophobic! There are marked lines on the floor to follow and exit signs everywhere which help, but I definitely on edge. Don't let the previous info scare you away. It was very cool to learn about the USS Yorktown's involvement in retrieving the Apollo 8. I knew nothing about this, or much of the history of the Yorktown itself. My sons loved seeing the aircraft. My husband loved the whole experience. We did not tour the USS Laffey or do the Vietnam experience that are included. Would have been too much with small kids, but I would definitely return.

We had been years ago but too late in day to see and do everything. The carrier was quite an eye opener, the "tin can" was similar to what husband was on so had a grand tour, and a walk through Vietnam post. Quite an education, eye opener, and just plain fantastic journey.

Jessica Mallory

Staff are always friendly and knowlegable. Getting to tour the ship after hours is always a good time.

Freddy Sullivan

Great place to take the family and learn some great history and see some truly remarkable machines. We all enjoyed the whole day. Highly recommend.

Very interesting tour. Ton of history..with every penny. But... when you get there...do the little museum first. Incredible info and will make the walking around better. This review was for the fort sumter tour....

Brian Westfall

Was a cool place to see. Ships were a lot of fun to tour. Vietnam experience seemed to minimalize how serious the Vietnam war was.

A great place for kids to experience true American service- what it took, how they lived, and what we lost. The ships are amazing to walk thru, and just imagine how it would be to live there. The guys at the welcome desk on the aircraft carrier are always more than happy to tell stories and help you out. The airplanes inside and on deck are amazing to see in person. All three exhibits are amazing to see. It does get VERY hot in the summer, surfaces, inside the ships, and overall summer heat, so be prepared. There are vending machines and small areas with AC for quick cool downs. It is a place where you can wander and learn without feeling rushed by people waiting behind you. A truly beautiful place filled with many emotions.

Very awesome place to explore. A lot of detailed tours of the ships. You can spend a few hours here. I wish the gift shop had more memorabilia from the ships and not the typical tourist trap beach store. All in all this is great tribute to the soldiers and American heritage.

Kathy DeOliveira

Definitely a MUST DO if you are visiting Charleston! If you want to see it all spend a day, if you want to see most of it I would plan for at least 4-5 hours. If you are visiting in the summer, it is HOT! I would plan accordingly. There is a lot to see.

Terry Roof

Wonderful place. Very knowledgeable, helpful people. Wonderful volunteers. Thank you all!!!

Nancy Flanders

Awesome place. Very interesting and informative. Makes me appreciate our service men and women even more.

Frank Devito

Every American should visit this site. So much history not learned in school. God Bless America.

AnnaMaria Cardinalli

A wonderful tour. Just a warning for anyone with PTS issues - an adjoining exhibit seeks to simulate the "sights, sounds, and smells" of the Vietnam war, and the sounds certainly carry. Take care!

Visiting this place has real history and real appreciation for our service members this was by far worth the price of admission you get 3 tours of ships on your own not guided no air conditioning and tight quarters but that creates the experience as it back in the day we had a great time I would recommend it

This is a beautiful place. Lots of history. It was our first time inside a submarine and aboard a huge battle ship. You should definitely visit this place. You won't regret it.

Ron Hurt

Absolutely fantastic! Had a work event with dinner and couldn't have picked a better place. Great view from the flight deck. Loved touring the ship and seeing the history. Can't visit Charleston and not visit Patriots Point.

Thomas Petersen

We visited on a weekday and had a fabulous time. Be aware of your groups desire to climb through every inch of a huge ship. Some may have less of a desire to see it all than others. And there are two ships and a submarine! Plus the Vietnam experience display is incredible as well. Don't miss this place!!

God Bless America. And for all that we stand for. Never forget the sacrifices that have been made to keep us free.

A great place to go for you history buffs, also a really good time for the whole family.

Joshua Henthorne

Patriots point is a great an educational place with a ship as a museum. Busy but not crowded. Definitely worth checking out.

Tom Sharple

Really enjoyed Patriots Point. I have always loved Naval Ships and Aircraft. The Vietnam experience is a must see. Be sure to watch the videos that go along with the walk through.

David Snyder

This is a great museum. If not for the price, it would get 5 stars. The Medal of Honor exhibition is excellent. Getting to explore on the carrier is very cool and who doesn't like fighter jets?! A must stop for anyone who loves military history.
