I have never found this place actually manned. Been around it a few times though. Would like to be able to enter the buildings though when it's manned is a mystery.

Cameron gave one of my favorite tours in a museum I’ve ever listened to! Out of the several states I’ve lived in & learned about, this is the first time I felt I was actually in living history. It was such a joy to hear someone who was passionate about history & had great jokes to entertain us while teaching. I am absolutely going back & bringing all my family when they visit! Thanks for the educational & fun time!!!

Just went to the museum's Haunted History Halloween program. Nice alternative to the usual Halloween activities. Staff did a nice job of bringing history to life a bit. Looking forward to coming back during the day to see more of what is offered. Seems like there is alot more to explore than meets the eye.

April Corley

My 5th great grandparents home is here.

The reenactors of the Historic Museum where most obliging and welcoming during the famous lunar eclipse of 2017. I purchased a pigeon Aviary ornament for my Christmas tree. Go check out this historic museum. Total Eclipse Kiss with Nicole and Jim RorieAll the volunteers were most helpful and friendly! One lady named Anne Ida was so lovely that she gave me a tour of the historic pigeon aviary where they would communicate war messages on the bird's feet. The atstronomy club of Augusta Georgia was very nice to let me look through their telescope at the eclipse. It was the best place to view the super moon eclipse! Thank you everyone!

The woman that took us on the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. The museum doesn't look impressive from the street but there's a lot of interesting history in those few buildings. Watch out for fire ants if you're wearing sandals.

Laurel Coston

Great place to visit. We had a personal visitor guide. Very informative and very reasonable.

S. W. Hudson, III

I've lived in Lexington most of my life (35+ years), and never visited until recently. What a hidden gem with massive tourist and educational potential! The kids enjoyed it and want to go back. With a few docents and guides in period dress, the museum could really become a draw.

Rick Berry

This is an untold story in the region. 6 1/2 acres of land wonderful tour only $5 per person ....an hour and a half or two hours through the 35 structures and the stories that they tell. A wonderful contribution to the community of Lexington and surrounding areas. Largest collection of Midlands antique furniture in the country.

Tamra B. Hood

Great place for an inexpensive family outing to learn more about the history of Lexington county.

Great Christmas program. Loved seeing how Christmas was celebrated in the 1700-1800's. Loved all the original houses and decorations.

Devin McMahan

Rocks! Great Museum! One of the best out of the 100's I've ever visited. Wonderful presentation of the area's rich and diverse history, Lexington County, South Carolina. The Museum offers 36 historic structures over 7 acres of historic land. A few of the architectural wonders are on The National Register of Historic Places. Their main focus is on the daily life of the inhabitants of Lexington County from 1771-1860. They offer wonderfully guided tours by an extremely knowledgable staff. The county is one of the fastest growing counties in America. With all the growth comes a need for balance between progress and preservation. They have done an excellent job in preserving the areas tremendously rich history. If not for sherman they'd have so much more but I suppose that is in and in it of itself part of the history. There are many instances that show the strength and fortitude of Lexington's inhabitants and their ability to overcome his _____ to rebuild their community into an area with great education, commerce, tourism, natural wonders, preservation, etcetera all while maintaining a balance between the past, present and the future. The Museum from a physical standpoint offers everything from historical homes to ephemera to Native American artifacts to inventions from the area to any aspect that represents the county's historical past. They offer special activities for kids and adults. If you think that you might have something historically important to the area's history please see below. Also, please overlook any typos. This was not easy to type using a phone! Great staff, if you're looking to donate local historical* items they will not sit in a basement or get sold, like many larger corporate-type museums. They will be displayed. *Caveat, Historically important to the area not just anything that is emotionally important to you but is important from a historical perspective to the area. The staff is wonderful. Please consult with them concerning anything you feel might be important to the museum. It's a donation so it could be of help on your taxes or in some instances items are purchased but due to very limited funds this route is not the norm. The most important thing is it will be preserved and presented to the public. You and your family can have access to it. They've never sold a donation or it end up stuff in a basement only to get broken, stolen, rot, etcetera. Please see them concerning anything you might have before making any decisions based on my review.

Robin

A great place to walk around and look at old buildings and items.

Elizabeth Aravena

Very informative tour!

Annie Brinson

This is such an amazing place! The people are great, very informative and friendly especially the gentleman that took us on the tour. The tour is definitely worth the $5 and roughly the hour and a half it took. Beautiful very historic place. I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area and have the time.

Gene Hendrix

This was a wonderful tour as we travel to connect with my ancestral roots.

Jackie Banton

Best local history you'll find!

Joyce Bixler

Wonderful place to visit for the whole family

J.C. Brinson

Really interesting place to go. They have transported buildings from all over the state to rest here.

Susan Grinnell

What a great place to learn Lexington County history. What a great interpretive center. Mike Spears rocks it as your guide. Beautiful rustic buildings as well as refined. They also have a great and I mean great with a capital G quilt collection displayed through out. I hope they think about doing a special exhibit of their immense collection, even if it's off-site of the museum. I'd come back just to see that.

Shawn Collins

Amazing tour! Lots of interesting facts and buildings to explore

Michael Russo

On the surface it would appear that there is not much to say about some old wooden buildings. Our guide Ken brought them to life. His commentary was peppered with reports of experiments to validate farming and cooking techniques of the past.

Laura McMahan

An amazing asset for our county full of historical information with so many accurate details about out past. Valuing our past is such a major part to move forward. Our museum is well worth a visit.

Nellie MacMahon

Very educational and staff was very friendly

Alison Trafton

This is a fabulous museum daring back to the 1800's. The guides are very friendly and informative. I went for the Solar Eclipse totality event with family and friends, we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more!!

I took a school group here on a field trip recently, and we had a great time! So many interesting historical buildings from right here in Lexington County. One of the homes was built in the 1700's by the Corley family, who had 17 children! No wonder Corley is a prominent name in Lexington! I learned a lot, and the kids enjoyed touring the Colonial homes, kitchens, dipping candles, and having a lesson in an old schoolhouse.

Adrian Pelkus

Cameron gave a excellent 2 hour guided tour that only an amazingly knowledgeable historian (such as he is) could give. Learned so much about the rich local history and loved it! The period correct artifacts are fascinating glimpses back 200yrs +. Will return soon!

Sonya D. K. Johnson

My parents and I took my cousins to this museum. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sarah Schilling

We went out for family day which was a free event they were holding today. It was nice but not suitable for little kids. More for children 5 and up. The staff were really friendly. Most of the houses weren't open for people to look in. All in all not bad but I personally am not looking to go back right away.

Anida Mims
