Guided tour available approximately every 20 minutes.

We purchased combo tickets to the Charleston Museum and two historical houses, this was one of them. We arrived twenty minutes before the tour began and had to wait outside for the next one to start. We came for the thirty minute tour, it was nice to learn about what life was like back then. Our tour was a bit underwhelming, but it was still interesting to see the inside of the house. If you are into architecture or Southern history, I'm sure this house will be interesting to you. FYI, there were no bathrooms on property, so you will have to walk across the street to the Charleston Museum. Parking is kind of a pain in the butt in Charleston, so you will need to find a pay garage someplace NEAR here. We kept finding that these garages were full even on a weekday.

Melanie Majors

Loved the tour!! Lots of history! Beautiful house!!

Jeffrey Johnson

Gary Standke

Great house with lots of period furnishings right next to the visitor center and the museum.

Nathan Figlewski

I enjoyed the tour quite a bit - our tour guide was outstanding and had a wealth of knowledge to share with us. She knew about every piece inside the house, and was able to give an insight into what the daily lives of the owners. I wished that the original kitchen and stables were still around, but we learned that portion of the property had been sold some time ago.

One of the best house tours in Charleston.

Good history. Was disappointed that we only toured 2 floors of the house and you don't get to see the top floor where the bedrooms were.

This place was interesting from a historic view of living in Charleston in the mid 1800. But I think for the money I could have seen something better

Beautiful historic home, well maintained.

Gordon Storey

Our guide was very thorough in describing the history of this house!

It's pretty and has an interesting and informative tour. While finding out about the family is interesting, they don't go into much detail on the lives of the slaves that lived on the property. Whether that is due to the particular guide we had or their standard tour I'm unsure. If you are interested in seeing a non standard old Charleston home with historic significance it's well worth the price.

Our house guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the topic. Even gave us recommendations of where else to visit in the area. She was so friendly and genuinely interested in the guests visiting the house and history of the house. She made this experience for us!

This is a classic antebellum house restored to it's original furniture and decor. Tour guide gave a very informative presentation about the history of the house and it's owners, including how it served the war effort in WW II! Adults who appreciate history will get the most from this.

Beautiful home, but don't waste your time or money. We went for the 4:30 tour (last for the day) and went into the dining room first and the group was so large that we were at the very back of the room and could not see most of the room or the items in it. We asked to go back into the room so that we could view the room and the furniture and items in it, but we're told no that the room was closed for the day(the house closes at 5 & it was 4:50!). Also the house is 3 stories and you could only view 2 floors. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!

Teresa Hall

Great view of life with a wealthy planter in the Charleston area.

Much more interesting and attractive on the inside than the outside. Beautiful furniture and details. Too bad the 3rd floor isn't restored. Our tour guide, Carol Ann, was entertaining and extremely informative. Recommend!

Enjoyed a guided tour of this beautiful house as part of a bus tour of Charleston. The house is lovely inside and is historically furnished with antiques. The tour was really enjoyable, and brought the history of the house and Charleston to life.

Visited Jan 5, 2017. Our main guide was wonderful. Loved her information. Negative? No time to absorb the features in each room, nor take pictures. I did feel rushed, but we were told a large group was coming in, and we could wait till the next half hour if we wished. Had we known this was how it would turn out, we probably would have waited. Beautiful home.

Rami Michael

The house is in a very good condition and the tour takes 45 min to an hour.

Enjoyed visiting this historical gem! Our guide was so fantastic and informative, we really appreciated the information she shared about the home, family, and general Charleston history. Purchasing the combo ticket is an awesome idea, see three different venues for one really affordable price. In the future I would really love to see the third floor restored and viewable, it would be such a great bonus!

Great to look at the past and see how they would have lived. The house gives a good representation for the Federalist design during that time.

Really enjoyed visiting this house. Again, if you are a history person this is a “must see” home. To hear about all the changes this house went though over time and to top it all off it was saved by these two woman who were trying to save pieces of history. Would really recommend to go with a group of people. I have never seen a house without a bathroom lol. You will have to see what they used... unbelievable!

Brandon Davis

Karla James

Very short tour, you only get to see about 3 rooms. Can't go upstairs and the tour guide was very monotone and boring.

Ting Zhao

We had the most knowledgeable tour guide. It made all the difference. She is a Kerean lady. Forgot her name. Ask for her, you won't be disappointed.

Chris Caraviello

Ed Reggi

What an incredible home that has been fully restored to historical levels. The tour guides are wonderful and the furniture is historical too. Thanks for a great tour!

Not as well preserved as the Heyward Washington House, but again, spectacular, perhaps priceless furniture and beautifully restored interiors. Interesting history, including how the house was nearly lost and how it was preserved, by hook and by crook.

steve s

Could not imagine what is was like not having indoor plumbing and no AC in Charleston SC in the summer. Interesting history on this house, that it almost got demolished to make room for Walmart. No just kidding, I think she said a parking lot.

Historical house originally built for a rich planter's family survived many owners and multiple attempts of demolition. The original décor is recreated nicely and the curators collected an impressive set of period-correct furniture and dining table dishes. The guides are very enthusiastic and knowledgeable

Jody Reece

chris carney

Beautiful 18th century home. Superb tour guide.

Jim Ilg

Interesting place, great history, short tour and no time to look around. No sign as to where to get tickets, only that you need tickets prior to a tour. Plan about an hour.

Christi Mendes

Love history. Owned by many.

Lisa V

No air conditioning, so it was very hot in June. The upstairs is off limits, so it's a waste of money to only see ground floor. What we did see was okay.

Michael Koehler

It was cool to tour such an old mansion but the building is in much need of some TLC. I did appreciate the tour guides knowledge on the house and I do get that era furniture is hard to find a collector pieces but it did not seem elegant as one would expect a southern mansion to be.

Austin David

Very nice and restored well, but our tour guide was kinda grumpy
