Great house with the out buildings and furniture of the time. The docent seem confused at times and was not able to answer most of our questions. Rather upsetting, she kept describing how the poor kept trying to ruin all the great stuff the rich had created.

Rhonda Butler

Good experience

Cassandra Kulesa

Good tour and not a ton of people so very small groups.

A must see when in Charleston! Our tour guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable!

Barry Dobbins

Loved the history of this beautiful home. Definitely get the group tickets at the museum for the museum and the two historical homes.

Luna the vampire fox

This was a nice experience, however none of history of the slaves were mentioned even once! What makes this so ironic is Charleston is where the slaves came in to America and were bought, sold, and traded.

Joe Coop

Excellent!

Robert Arzt

Michael Saffioti

Ashley Keener

This house doesn't give you any history of the people who lived there. They were plantation owners and one of them signed the declaration of independence. Oh, and george Washington stayed in their house for a week. The rest that they tell you about is the furniture. That's it. It's not a bad place to visit, but for the price I would skip it.

Jackie Farr

A brief yet informative tour. Glad we made time to visit!

Highly recommend this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable. Good for older kids & teens. They were amazed that George Washington actually stayed here!

Bob Kooris

The house is the best of the best for authentic 18th century furniture makers. The docent was fabulously informed and made the history of the house as well as the importance of the family most interesting.

Bobby L.

Tour guides are well educated and friendly. Home has a ton of historical signifigance, and feel.

James Collins

This is one of several restored period houses in Charleston that are operated by a local historical society are open to the public. There is an admission fee, but that gets you a guided tour by a knowledgeable docent who describes the house, the early owners and their way of life. Probably not of interest to most children. Note that there is no restroom in the house, but the privy has a modern facility in the back yard.

We had a great time and they made learning a blast for all of the students.

We did the tour at the Charleston Museum and got tickets that included 1 house which was a good deal. The tour at the Heyward-Washington house pretty interesting, our guide was super knowledgeable and the areas open to public were nicely preserved. We definitely loved the garden out back.

Jon Beasley

Washington slept here...for seven nights, no less. His bedroom is painted Mount Vernon green.

I had the most wonderful tour of the Heyward-Washington House. I scrambled in for the last tour of the day at 4:30 pm and a lovely woman showed me through the house. She described the importance of the furniture and art pieces as they related to the historical time period. She welcomed questions and showed so much enthusiasm. This tour is great for all ages.

Jennae Faucheux

This was one of the best tours I went on! My tour guide was entertaining and informative. Small house but full of so much history. We had our daughter with us, who fell asleep, so they let my husband go on one tour then I went on the next one. Glad we stopped!

Eric Davis

Very interesting house. Good to visit.

Surprised at the quality of the tour. Expected a guide to ramble along but she knew the history of the house and made the tour entertaining. Great value for the money. Interesting guided tour of house and self guided tour of the gardens. Package deals available for other properties.

Found totally by accident and was one of the best tours and houses we saw on our trip. President George Washington rented the house for one week and got his name added to the house the family owned forever.... epic.

Worth the stop if you're a history buff and want to see a documented location where George Washington slept. Also a book cabinet that the Antique Roadshow valued as priceless. Before coming to Charleston do some research and check out the Charleston Heritage Passport. It will get you into 5 houses, 2 museums and 2 plantations. You pick it up at the visitors center on John St. (don't get sucked into other "visitors centers" that will be sales pitches) they are very helpful and really well informed.

Linda Peck

William Brown

It is a must see in Charleston's historical district.

Jamey Robson

This place was awesome. If you want some history, you need to visit. To actually stand in the same room the George Washington stayed in is remarkable. The house is in wonderful shape, the museum has done a great job to restore a piece of history.

Awesome place

Nushrat Humaira

A house where George Washington stayed for one night and the house owner, Thomas Heyward signed the independence declaration. It costs around $12 per head, and there are package tours including other establishments maintained by Charleston Museum. The guided tour takes less than half an hour. The house is not impressive from outside. Inside there is good collection of old charleston made wooden furnitures, exhibiting glorious cabinets, wine cooler etc. A letter exchanged between Heyward and G.Washington is displayed. Small backyard garden, adjacent living quaters fordomestic slaves and kitchen garden is in the backside.

Jessica Peragine

Adam Croft Broxton

Eh.. Not worth the price of admission

Rosalinda Wilson

A good example of town homes of that time.

History is alive in this house built for one of the richest Charleston planters and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and used as a location for several nights stay by George Washington himself. Knowledgeable guides will point you in all the right directions and let you see the amazing craftsmanship of furniture makers and explain the fascinating lifestyle of the planters and their families.

The staff was very knowledgeable. It felt a little rushed but they did squeeze us in to the last tour of the day. A lot of interesting artifacts but many of them are not really related to the house. There were many interesting features and it was a glimpse into how the rich lived long ago.
