I had the pleasure of meeting the one tasked with the mission of preserving this history. The history is amazing, I should hope that everyone has the experience we had on our visit there. This is a wonderful place to appreciate ingenuity, a desire for better, and the concept of being the change you desire in a community. I would love to see more on how things such as the first bridge, electricity, the great northern migration, and other historical cultural events coincided with or affected the Gullah people.

Before you think this is a run of the mill, walk-through reading placards tourist museum...it’s not. It’s a real piece of history. Yes, the admission fee is $10 or $20 dollars, but the wealth of information and experience you receive far surpasses the fee. When you enter the tiny cottage you began an intimate walk into history that is personally spoken to you by a real descent of this historical home turned museum. Expect to spend at least an hour listening to the history. It’s not an in and out visit. If you come here to genuinely discover actual Gullah history and culture told from the mouth of a descendant then this is a museum experience you’ll never forget.

Wait! The admission says $20? LOL. I have no idea what is in here because it is about 10'x10'... and the hours are very limited.

Was listed on a tourist map of the island. Didn't do my homework and found this small museum with limited hours and $20 admission. Decided to spend my time somewhere else.

Walk back in time and share the experience of yesteryear. This is obviously a labor of love and the owner is a font of information about the Gullah Geechee people. One of the few times that you will get to hear the Gullah language spoken.
