As a black person, I have no need or desire to visit (was forced for military purposes). Definitely saw pictures of naked slaves serving these people that folks today idolize today. I respect their war/exploration tactics solely, but due to their character/morality i cant idolize or respect such people.

I really love this place when I went you have to be invited to go on the base by an officer if I'm not mistaken but a first-class operation love the Navy

First and most important, you CANNOT get here unless you first contact them and make prior arrangements, because you will need a sponsored guest pass since this is a Navy base (or, if you have a CAC or VA card, then you should be fine). The museum is amazing, though. Lots of extremely interesting exhibits, and the building itself is a strip tease, showing hints of its original construction as an asylum under the facade of modern renovation. I geeked out so hard when they let me check out their archives and actually sort through records that are hundreds of years old

Well detailed history of the Navy and its origins in Newport, RI. Very well done museum at this waterfront location on Newport's Navy base. Need to get clearance and show valid ID at gate to gain access onto the base.

Gem of a museum tracing back Newport Naval history. We read about the origin of this Navy base, islands in the bay used for torpedo testing and much, much more. There is even a room devoted to relevant Japanese history. The Naval War College Museum displays exhibits on the history of the Naval War College since 1884; naval activities in the Narragansett Bay area since the colonial period; and the art and science of naval warfare since ancient times. Be sure to visit both floors in this historic building with a fantastic view of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Bridge.
