REVIEWS OF Penn Museum IN Pennsylvania

Christian Scott

Pretty good as college museums go. Collections could use more presentation. Good Egyptian collection

Wow. As a history nerd, what an amazing place. The variety of artifacts from the ancient places of the world was staggering. I got to see Queen Puabi's headdress in person!!! It was just so amazing to see these pieces out of time and imagine the people who wore and used them. Really cool.

egondeur

I can't wait for the new African and Latin American exhibits

kelly waldron

Great Museum with many Artifacts that are truly breathtaking.

Santiago Apodaca

Great experience for a two hour your.

Joseph Fabian

Visited on Sunday for the first time. I had a great time. There are three levels to visit and you get to see mummies. Lots of interesting things to see and learn about. If you like history and culture you will enjoy the museum. The fee is $15 per person.

abagail gutierrez

This place was amazing. Cheap, very informational and beautiful items on display. You learn a lot and oh my goodness the paranormal experiences. Mostly in the Egyptian portion. Very amazing respectful displays and amazing staff. I loved every second!

Joan Borrelli

An absolutely magnificent museum. Well laid out beautiful exhibits with a lot of mummies.

Janet Barbour

Looks like a small space from the outside, loaded with cool exhibits inside.

Itamar Ronen

For the atrocious entrance fee of $15 (proportions: more than the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and the British Museum and the Smithsonian museums are free) you get to see a small but choice museum displaying the fruits of the wonderful involvement of U Penn Archeologists in various parts of the ancient world. The pinnacle of the collection are the findings in Ur, but also the rest is fascinating and well displayed. The museum is undergoing renovation work, but most of the highlights are on display.

pavel dimitrov

Nice structured museum. Easy can spend 2-3 hours inside. Plenty of things to explore. Would recommend

Jim Marnell

The new Persian exhibit is terrific! The American Indian Gallery as a really fascinating way of describing American Indian history and culture. The Egyptian area is being upgraded and is very nice as well as the China Japan exhibit. It's one of my favorite places in the city.

LeAH wiLLiAms

Nice museum! Big spacious and full of interesting artifacts this place is a gem among museums friendly and helpful staff as well•••

Jeanie Stanley

It was good, but I thought at a museum you were to talk quietly. So you would not disturb other people. Employees and guest were so loud you could not hear yourself read.

Jennifer Soto

Most of the exhibits were limited or completely closed. Visited 6/15/19 and I would recommend waiting until more has opened if you are currently planning a trip.

We had a blast here

Heather X

The tour was rwally nice and so was the presentation it felt realistic

Chuck Hermann

Really amazing museum with lots of pre-Egyptian artifacts and lots of interesting signage with explanations.

Amber Davis

I really enjoy the events hosted here. It's local to everything as well. The museum itself has some interesting pieces. It has a different feel from other museums to me. It's more intimate and exclusive but welcoming.

Kathryn Hagerty

Fantastic museum. The middle Eastern collection is impressive - speaks to the over century that Penn has been digging up artifacts. Allot yourself quite a bit of time, the collection is truly impressive. They're doing construction on part of the museum, but most is open. $15 for adult tickets, cheaper if you're a student.

Norah Andrews Gharala

This museum enjoys an international reputation, which seemed very well deserved to me. Curation is easy to follow as well as thought-provoking. I liked the objects that showed the experiences of women leaders in ancient societies.

NIC FEL

We take for granted the wonderful collection of historical artifacts close by everyone should go see

Steve Sanserino

Very interesting lot of cool exhibis

Craig Sandt

One of my favorite museums in Philadelphia.

Aishwarya Pawar

It a fun place to see deowndung on your fondness for museums the Penn museum has mummies, a sphinx, a skull collection and a very big glass ball. If thst does not sway you I dobt know what will.

Maria Porras

I give it this because for someone who like museums I don't appreciate the fact that when you walk into the museum the "student" becuase I'm sure Penn let students work the fron desk doesn't even acknowledge that I walk him, didn't say hello, and was SUPER RUDE AND DISRECPECTFUL and didn't have patience when I ask him a question and literately scream at me. Plus there isnt any staff around the museum in case you need help find a piece of art. Overall awful experience, the only good person was the gentlemen at the gift shop who actually took his time to help me out this was today APRIL 20TH 2019 around 1:30pm Penn should at least choose polite studetnts to work customer service no that disrespectful kid that doesnt have a clue how to treat people.

latieraqueen87 Pacheco

Very detailed information. Staff very pleasant and helpful. The food in the cafeteria was excellent.

Sajid CE08

Outstanding! So many cultures added, diversity promoted. Brings people together. Creates bonding, makes USA more accessible to researchers around globe.

Tammy Bash

Amazing museum. We will definitley go back lots of ancient items, a 4000 year old footprint for one. They offer daily tours at no extra charge. Only complaint is the museum navigation is a but if a trick with all of their renovations.

Danielle Blair

Went for the celebration of Jamaica and it had a lot to offer for the childern and the adults. There was so much on top of the interactive exhibits they had from the actual museum. I would love to return and see everything!

Clifford Gibbons

The museum new Persian exhibit is outstanding and thought provoking! The American Indian Gallery is a really educational way of describing American Indian rich history and culture. The Egyptian exhibit is finally being upgraded and is visually astounding as well as the China Japan exhibit. The Penn Museum is one of my favorite go to places in the city.

Mark Mumbauer

Always a great historical travel in time, have to break it up in multiple trips, too much for me to take in all at once! Love it!

Elana S

Overpriced, not worth the time or money. Several of the exhibits were closed during my Jan 2019 visit. Philly has so many exciting museums, I would not recommend this one to a visitor with limited time. For locals I would suggest going during a special event to get the most for your money. They have frequent cultural events, lectures, and family oriented workshops that seem interesting.

Karl Werner

Interesting place to learn about mankind's early history.

Amaris Pollock

This is a beautiful place and perfect to hold events at. There is a handicap accessible entrence, however you have to be VERY persistent to use them. I have permanent injuries and I had to argue with the security team to allow me to use the elevator. They refused to allow me to, so I had to take the painful and long way up numerous stairs...there unfortunately is not a ramp. It took a long time for me, and I was near tears, but I made it. It wasn't until after I climbed them that another security gaurd mentioned that I could use the elevator (he saw the pain I was in and was far more helpful then the guards who wouldn't allow me who were directly in front of the elevator.) So I'm letting you know from my own personal experience, if you are in need of using the elevators too, the entrance to them is located is on the left hand side of the building (if you are looking at it from the front). And be more persistent then I was. I really don't know why the security gaurds at the elevator entrance refused to all me to use it, but I did argue with them for at least 10 minutes before I gave up.

Jose Ramos

Excellent exhibits. Great professional development for teachers and field trips for students.

Chen Bi

A must see fantastic museum about archeology

Terrell Cobb

Great museum lot of exhibits lot of artifacts a great place to learn a great family place to go to

Jesse Cantrill

Renovated areas are lovely but very difficult to understand without a guide.

Joseph Mee Mee

Kid friendly and very interesting

Lashawnna Aikens

I enjoy a grass-root campaign I'm also proud of Faiz Shakir for his work.

Rob Murph

It was beautiful inside. I love history being close to it and actually seeing it . It was a great intimate feeling as I was there after hours for a gathering highlighting and promoting black travel.

june johnson

The Mile Walk was very relaxing and educational. It was nice to be able to stroll around such history early in the morning. "T.T." the Guide was just lovely, and knowledgeable about the displays. The Pepper Mill was the perfect spot for a cup of coffee, and to watch the Penn Museum come to Life.

Heather Abbott-Lyon

Under renovation, but the exhibits that are open are excellent. I especially appreciate the interactive nature of the Native American exhibit. The Egyptian collection in storage and museum conservation exhibits were also some of my favorites.

Betty Elzy

Exhibits were Awesome!

Robert Anderson

Clean, safe and affordable. Lots of artifacts.

Vinissa K-aree

Great place for learning. The museum is under a lot of renovation right now (2018) but they hope to get everything done by early 2019. There are many interesting permanent exhibits and a lot of rotating ones.

Alan August Nitikman

A great archeological & anthropological travel through human history. They've got world-renowned statuary and other artifacts from Sumerian, Egyptian, Etruscan, Roman, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, and assorted other ancient cultures, as well as special exhibits, like a room covering the destruction wrought by ISIS and the efforts to restore what can be restored. It's a world class museum and worth a trip, if you're in Philly.

Michael Gottfried

Really cool museum. I was interested in the Egyptian displays. Even though not everything was out due to construction, it was still worth the trip.

호호아줌마

small but powerful place

Nadir Sharif

Disclaimer: I am an employee of the University of Pennsylvania. I have visited Penn Museum on several occasions, often with friends and family visiting Philadelphia for the first time. The main attraction at the museum is the impressive collection of Egyptian artifacts. The museum is fairly small, so it makes for a good stop during a short trip to the city. The staff rotate the exhibitions a couple times a year to bring out items from storage or have traveling exhibitions. The connection between the Penn Museum and Penn's Anthropology department means that there is an abundance of research connected to the historical collections. Special tours are offered by the researchers and the staff upon request. K-12 students in particular are welcomes. The facility is currently undergoing extensive renovations that will last another four to five years. Parking is available at the neighboring garage. Penn's campus and most of University City is within walking distance. The museum is also easily accessible by SEPTA (train/trolley/bus). There is a cafe that offers a good selection of beverages and snacks.

rica Cav

Great exhibits! My boyfriend and i had a wonderful time. The Egyptian exhibit was our favorite. Next time we are in philly we will go again

Carmen Munoz

This place always has interested stuff to see ,IAM planing to go there again

Heather Riemannstockton

Love going to the Museum! There is so much to see here.

Christian Kelly

This place was amazing. The staff was extremely nice.

Livio Azzoni

Great anthropology museum with Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Asian collections. The native American and African collections are very limited

Ray Waller

I could spend lifetimes in here. To gaze at pieces of the past up close and think about the brutality, stoicism and artistic brilliance of ancient people is a staggering experience. Peering ever so slightly into the mysterious void of the ancient world would be impossible if it weren't for places like this. I love this place.

Mick W.

Freddie is the best waitress, and you see the same staff over and over which is good. They must enjoy their job and people. The food is just so good. Wish they would work on some new and healthier desserts. Otherwise A+

Justin D

I had never been here before actually I've never been in that part of Philadelphia before and in my way back to the office I drove past the sign advertising the Egyptian exhibit. So the following day I grabbed a few people with me and we went to check it out. The place is really awesome. It's amazing, absolutely amazing you can look at things that were made by someone or loved by someone 13,000BCE. That is a mind blowing amount of time between then and now. The only negative is that a lot of it is under construction and I couldn't see the Sphinx. Other than that and the crushing realization that my entire existence is absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things. All of the junk I own and none if it will last as long as what I was looking at.

Timothy Welty

Amazing collection of antiquities

Ginka Nikolov

Lots of interesting artifacts. Many are reproductions or photos. They provide a good narative explanations providing good context of the findings - daily lives, how people dressed, lived, ate, etc.

Alex Labora

This place is just getting better every time I came. Their collections are great. They have stuff I don't even remember seeing in DC, London or Paris. Of course not as extensive as the once I mentioned but for a university museum amazing!

mehrnoush soroush

A must see if you are interested in archaeology. Penn Museum is one of the few pioneering American museums with unique collections from archaeological excavations not looting or antiquities market.

Alexandrea Kensinger

Great museum with a ton of artifacts. If you’re interested in archeology, anthropology or ancient Egypt it’s a must see. We especially liked the koi pond in the front of the building lol

Joshua Cohen

Very nice museum with several exhibits from people and cultures around the world ranging from modern pieces to ancient artifacts. As of January 2019 there are a few sections under construction but most of the museum was open. The grounds surrounding the building are well taken care of and there are outdoor courtyards and sitting areas. There's a beautiful koi pond in front of the main entrance. Many of the items on display are from ancient people's daily lives; items like pottery and ceramic utilitarian things are found throughout the museum. Almost every item is decorated in some fashion and it's great to be able to look all the art from around the world. Some of the things are simple in an American folk art kind of way. The items wouldn't be out of place in a modern artist's workshop and would almost be quaint if they weren't thousands of years old. Some items are expertly crafted and it's nice to see the work done by ancient masters in glorious detail up close. There's so much history housed here. Taken together, the stuff on display, the layout and architecture, the outdoor areas, this is a fantastic museum and worth a visit or two.

Ted Driver

A beautiful museum, with architectural features to admire alongside the exhibits. Very friendly staff, interesting dioramas and a unique collection make this a place not to miss. When renting the museum for parties, they go all out, I highly recommend The Penn Museum.

yoniqueworld

Nice Garden with seating to just relax

123snr 2 / The Super Neon Runners

Here for a field trip. Good but not perfect.

Sayak Chakraborti

Awesome middle eastern, Egyptian, Roman and Greek galleries. Highly recommended. The staff and volunteers are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Sarah Jahanbakhsh

A really nice Mueseum on Penn’s campus with multiple exhibits of different countries artifacts. All the artifacts were really beautiful and unique. Seems like they’re doing a lot of construction to make new exhibits so I’m excited to see what will come next.

Daniel Williams

Great museum located at the University of Penn. I was here for an event and it was pretty cool how we dined and partied against the back drop of Egyptian relics.

Marshall Schurtz

One of the best museums in the country. If you're around and like old artifacts (not just paintings etc.) you MUST come!

Marcia Klein

Beautiful and large displays of artifacts from actual UPenn sponsored digs of the last 100 years. A wealth of fantastic finds from Greece, Rome, Mesopotamia, Israel, Japan, etc. Visually inspired exhibit on 1st floor which depictts modern day Native Americans: their history, their plight, their art. Thought provoking... A nice size museum for an afternoon 's contemplation of humankind over the millennia.

Ari Nestlebaum

There is definitely a huge variety of artifacts from around the world that would be rare to find in a less established museum. Mummies galore, ancient headdresses, jewelry, hieroglyphics, weaponry, ritual objects and cuneiform tablets are all divided into their different wings, such as Ancient Egypt, Canaan and Israel, Rome, Native American, etc. etc. If just for the sheer choice of amazing, definitely visit this museum. Even the gift shop is unusual in its variety of ancient history-inspired goods that are a mark above the usual plushies, mugs and minerals available seemingly everywhere else. Admission isn't unusual for a museum, at $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children. My only critical notes arise from the renovations in progress at the moment, which make parking near and navigating through the museum a real challenge. Various wings and exhibits are sealed off, and even the cafe can only be accessed by the one elevator or staircase that goes behind some of the construction. Additionally, with temperatures in the high 90s yesterday, it was disappointing to find that a few of the exhibit areas were not air conditioned. It made for a very sticky, sweaty visit at times. (There was a cooler of free water set out for the guests, but it was empty when I got to it.) Some of the labels and explanations of the artifacts also appeared to be missing, so I sometimes could not tell what I was looking at. Overall, most of the issues I've criticized are not the museum's fault. They are undergoing construction and still remain open to the public, so kudos to them. It's well worth a visit!

Donna Schaffer Fornal

Beautiful museum.

Shamar Johnson

It was simply alsome.

Chris Higgins

This is a museum packed with excellent treasures. The renovations are making it even better.

jersey corolla lu vazquez

Fun learning ..nice guide TV that took us through..educational

Christine Mondello

Large collection of artifacts housed in beautiful setting. Loved the social exhibits and the pop-up exhibit we just made in time.

Steve Blevins

Really interesting collection of Egyptian, Greek, Roman and other ancient artifact s. A great collection of cuneiform tablets. They are currently renovating and one section was closed. Definitely worth the time.

Simone Everett

Interesting and cool artifacts. Will definitely be coming back

Heidi Everhart

Gorgeous, classic architecture housing a world class collection of Egyptian artifacts and much, much more, from many different cultures and periods. Helpful, friendly, incredibly informed docents and staff make visiting this museum even more of a delight. Go often!

Mike Monroe

AGI held their company holiday party at Penn Museum. We enjoyed a few cocktails while walking among the many displays and mummies. We than had a delicious buffet dinner and even went back for seconds. Dessert and coffee did us in and we were ready to mingle a little more with friends and co-workers before calling it a night. Definitely looking forward to another visit after 2019 when all the renovations and improvements are complete.

Rony Torres

Well maintained, quiet, and some interesting archeological exhibits.

Jackie S Yoon

A little bit disappointing...Good collections of ancient era but it was not convenient to enjoy exhibitions. It is not clear to me whether the reason is some section is on the construction or the designs of movement pathes.

B Daaliya

This was a gr8 place to visit with the various exhibits and many artifacts. The best part for my family was viewing a real mummy with the scientist who was about to retrieve a DNA sample....has dropping. We loved

Zakia Muhammad

Another hidden gem in Philadelphia. Well preserved artifacts from the Middle East, Rome, Greece, China, Egypt/Africa and Native America. A few of the exhibits were closed due to maintenance and upgrading. Lots of artifacts to look at, touch and learn about. I highly recommend this museum!!! Oh and the Koi pond at the entrance is just beautiful!

Kevin Wallace

What a complete and total gem. A resident of University City, it isnt more than a 5 minute ride from home, but it felt like an afternoon at the Smithsonian, and the management, staff and curators are on a mission to update, upgrade and re-present a number of artifacts ... without doubt, becoming a member ... the best $80 I've spent in YEARS! If you are even the least bit curious or fascinated by archaeology or anthropology, go, you won't be dissapointed.

kyle buck

There are a lot of fascinating exhibits on display, but several sections were closed for renovations. I think this museum is mostly geared toward college students and adults, but the newer sections do have some videos and hands-on displays that will keep kids engaged. Make sure to check out Ancient Egypt: From Discovery to Display early so you can watch archaeologists studying and preserving some of the artifacts.

Kate Weber

Excellent, well presented display of historical objects. Several areas of the museum have been recently renovated and 2 more are still to be complete. It's a small Museum which has daily tours some for cost and some for free. I highly recommend taking your time and checking out the tours to help make sense of some of the historical objects. They do have touch displays with speech for students who wants a tour on their own.

Brady Santoro

Awesome museum that really is quite underrated. Museum is under intermittent construction, but exhibits are mostly still accessible. Highlights: the new American gallery, the Mesopotamian galleries, the Egyptian galleries, and the Far East Galleries. The entire collection is available online, and the curatorial staff are often in the galleries with real artifacts.

Steven Salzman

Loved this museum. It's one of the hidden hems in Philadelphia. Many people go to the art museum or independence hall but didn't pass up Penn. A trove of history.

Jimiao Zhang

Well worth a visit. Soaked in a richly cultured atmosphere. The museum contains quite a few sections.

Miguel A. Garces

A hidden gem inside Philadelphia located across from the UPenn Franklin Field. One of the best collections of Egyptian artifacts in the world and collections from everywhere else. Etruscan, Chinese, Middle East, Native American etc. You could spend a whole day here and not see everything. Make sure to see what collections may be closed due to constant remodeling.

Bobby Gerjarusak

Take your kids!! It's not big but it has everything you need. Mummies. Check! Ancient Greek. Check! Roman! Japan & China! Middle East! Egyptian section is impressive. It's right at the edge of Penn Campus near Franklin Field (33rd and South). Kids enter for free! Take them before they grow up and think of museum as a place full of old stuffs.

Fish Aristicrat

It's an expirience to say the least

N P0611

Quite a large museum with a vast collection of artifacts. Highly recommended.

John Ogden

A Philadelphia treasure! Currently in the process of extensive renovation. The new exhibits and displays are worth visiting even while renovation work continues.

Aarushi G

The East Asian exhibit was really cool but the mummies were even better! There were perfectly preserved mummies, wrapped in nothing but their dried skin. This museum is a hidden treasure.

Azamat Suleimenov

Although it's a relatively small museum showpieces are worth the money and time. It was surprising for me that Penn has so many relics from middle East and Egypt. The most impressive was to see the piece of the poem about Gylgamesh. The photo is from the Asia hall.

Joshua Hunger

Nice museum. I enjoyed myself and spent 4 hours there. The new Middle Eastern exhibit was really neat and had lots of very interesting items. There was a tour going on that I listened in on quite a bit and it was well lead and very informative. Overall it was a great trip, I would like to come back once they finish renovating.

chad klein

Very friendly and helpful staff. Always rotating new exhibits.

Philip Wismer

enjoyed the lecture related to deaf culture/history in film

Kala Gorman

Absolutely amazing exhibits! Must see!

sunil kumar sharma

Wonderful collection of historical artifacts and loved the mummy section

Numm S

As of October 2019, the place is under a major renovation. Many parts are closed. Construction dust is visible all around. It is extremely loud and not exactly enjoyable. Wait until the construction is completed before you decided to go.

Kyung Cho

The Penn Museum is part of the University of Pennsylvania located just across from the Franklin Field and a short walk from the Schuylkill River Trail exit to the South Street Bridge. You’ll find many middle eastern archeological treasures and from many parts of the world. The museum also hosts cultural events for a family with young children. I've been to the Japanese tea ceremony event and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s difficult or next to impossible to find an on-street parking, so expect to pay for the parking in the garage. I believe there is a discount parking for the Penn Museum visitors.

Tabbatha Little

The pieces were wonderful to look at. However, being a middle school group and coming; thee personal were the rudest people I've met especially the security officer's

maya holloway

Very educational. Beautiful artifacts from around the world.

Joshua Holland

Was awesome, but a ton of construction limited what could be seen. Also.... consider non-reflective glass displays

diane adler

What's not to love about this glorious space?

Brownee's Barking Barn

It is always amazing here! Everyone is friendly, the exhibits are awesome, very informative yet fun.

MB Haslam-Houck

Nice museum, lots of weird stuff, some cool mummies

Patrick Brogan

Great place to go lots of amazing information. Im very excited for the new exhibits coming this year

Jonathan Mawdsley

Stunning museum with a huge collection of ancient cultural artifacts from around the world. One of Philadelphia's best-kept secrets!

Toni Burke

This place is amazing

Kimberly London

Best museum outside of Manhattan as far as I'm concerned! Awesome Egyptian exhibit! Always a good time! They host lots of exciting and authentic cultural events there. (On four different times when we went to visit out of the blue, we walked into some amazing events involving song, dance, vendors and hands on activities.) It is close to both the train station as well as parking garages. Nice gift shop as well. A must see in Philadelphia!

Arica Demme

Akin to the British Museum in quality of artifacts, this is a must for anyone who enjoys archaeology, history, biblical studies, and ethnography. Parking is a bit difficult to navigate, but it's worth it. The second floor is currently closed for renovations, but there was plenty to see (there's also a discount on admission). Also, try to catch one of the tours led by an immigrant from the relevant part of the world; the one I went on of the Middle East exhibits by Yaroub from Iraq was fantastic.

Joe S.

I don't know why I was surprised, but the exhibits were more academic than I expected. I took my 11-year-old and we were in and out in less than an hour. Not a super kid friendly museum.

Barbara Harwood

Great viewing and loved the building history

Von Cal

Great Egyptain history Tour

Anupama Jha

Worth going. It's free for Penn students, ongoing construction

Hassan Raheem

Just fantastic, can't wait for it to fully reopen. A true treasure in this city, worth a visit for new folks and locals.

Elle McC

So much more interesting and bigger than I ever expected. I went as a chaperone at my sons school. We had such a great day. They had artifacts and mummies thousands of years old. It was a priceless experience.

Ernie P.

Nice compact museum with a collection specializing in ancient civilizations especially Middle East. Love the open window for the artifacts restoration lab, bit only open a few hours a day where you can talk and ask questions with one of the restoration specialists. The atrium domed room is awesome! A beautiful space with nice Asian artifacts. There were a number of exhibits closed for a while to renovate, update, and protect artifacts from the hospital wing construction next door. You can hear and feel a bit of the construction work. The original museum was constructed in1899 and recently majorly renovated, but navigation if you have some mobility issues can be challenging with the second floor center blocked which made accessibility to elevator having you go out to the group entrance, but it's doable. As the helpful staff. While nice, might want to wait for renovations to get done for a even better museum. First choice should be the Philadelphia Museum of Art and if you have time this is a nice place.

Brad Payne

I came here because it was listed in a book called “100 Things to do in Philadelphia Before you Die”. To say the least I was not disappointed. Probably outside of Cairo and Turin, Italy, they might have the best Egyptian artifacts, some 4,400 years old that are in amazing condition. Sometimes I don’t like it when we take ancient materials from other countries but they are doing an unbelievable job of maintaining the condition of these items with state of the art environmental equipment. Another highlight is they have 20-30 ancient Chinese items from various dynasties. The highlight were the Fu Lions and the various Buddha statues. I highly recommend visiting the Penn Museum, especially if you like mummies, and it is only $15 for adults.

Johanna Kaiser

Great museum, especially their new Egypt gallery is a must-see! They are under constriction right now which makes some parts of the museum inaccessible, but they're also charging reduced admissions for the inconvenience. Highly recommend going!

lance kellam

As a fabricator of museum environments I can easily proclaim this my favorite museum in Philadelphia. A wide variety of human history expertly displayed across three expansive floors in this beautiful building, backed by world renowned University of Pennsylvania academia.

Charles Coulbourn

All the exhibits were breath taking

Robert Senior

Awesome place, with tremendous collection. Worth dealing with the city to experience!

WinnieIsTriggerd

I loved that museum i went with my class

Paul Jones

My favorite museum to visit in Philadelphia. They have a wonderful collection of artifacts spanning many cultures and civilizations from across the globe. I’ve been here multiple times and their collection and attention to care and the actual history will keep me coming back to check out new exhibits and events. Wonderful place!

Pat Sedmak

Great experience with grandson. Beautiful exhibits and well explained details on each one. Small place but staff and ease of viewing makes this place on of our favorites.

Brian Shaw

We got to work in this awesome musuem. Very cool working right near the new location for the Sphinx!

Adam Brumberg

Fantastic collection of anthology and archaeology items.

Ryan Lynn

Really cool Museum with tons of artifacts from Egypt, Roman times, China. I was surprised how big it was, so big I missed an entire floor! The mummy section is a must see. I can’t believe how many mummies they have! This place rocks, and I got a ton of historical knowledge today!

Andrew Bowers

Collection from around the world largely acquired during colonialist times that should be returned or displayed for free for impoverished Philly residents. Much like the antiquities of the British Museum much of the collection was taken from countries and native peoples during times of their oppression. Although the museum is beautiful and the pieces are well maintained and cared for, they should be returned. However, if the exhibits were made free to Philadelphia's poor communities of color then perhaps an education mission could be justified instead of using the proceeds to line Penn's already overflowing (and under taxed) pockets.

Caleb Stanford

Pretty good museum, free for Penn students, with a surprisingly large collection: a bunch of random ancient civilation artifacts, as well as some more recent stuff mixed in on the first floor. The "daily dig" where a speaker went into extreme detail about a single random object in the museum was very appreciated.

Darcella Cross

Great programs but hard to get parking space. So go early

Andy Alexander

Very nice and fun. Only two issues we had were the school trips. One security guard did take charge and tell them to be quiet. And the construction around the building makes it a pain to get to the building if you are driving. Will visit again if on the area.

Uade da Silva

Great Egyptian exhibit

Nick Thomson

The big, vertical atrium is a must-see, for the echo alone. A must-hear, i guess

Joseph Thorn

Best museum my fav

David Esteves

Penn Museum is a very nice educational place and there's alot of cool stuff here to look at, come all you will like the place.

Brenda Nyce

Thanks Wawa for the free admission day! Can not wait to see the Sphinx.

Kathy Miller

Back when I was a child, the main library in Minneapolis was an ancient building. The children's area required a elevator ride. It was terrifying, open affair. Then when you arrived there was a MUMMY!!! I have often wondered whose idea it was to have these arrangements. But to this day I love libraries and reading. Anyway, this was my first viewing of mummies since then. And I found it fascinating. Some of the information is hard to read, up high and small print. But I am glad that I spent the time viewing and reading. I also enjoyed the Middle East area. Especially Israel.

Julio Palacios

Excellent museum, awesome staff! I'm enjoyed my visit there!
