REVIEWS OF Mütter Museum IN Pennsylvania

Fascinating collections. If possible, go during the week to avoid the weekend crowds. It can get pretty packed in some of the rooms.

Jenny Croney

Really interesting. Nice facility. Helpful employees. We parked in a lot nearby and walked. Probably not for young children

Tom Cole

AWESOME MUSEUM. Was super crowded on Saturday, which they warned of (it was also the hottest day of the year). Photography bags etc are not allowed inside the museum. If you're squeamish this isn't the museum for you. There's skeletons, preserved bodies/fetuses/limbs, wax models of very disgusting deformities and diseases, but super enlightening as the how medicine worked and thought in the 1800s. The Civil War medicine exhibit was especially interesting, and took the unique perspective of a (real, well documented) black soldier hailing from Philadelphia.

Krystal Kaster

The place is amazing!!! From the skull wall to the wax molds and wet specimens, there is just so much to look at and learn. Such interesting specimens, stories, and information. There is currently a war exhibit with injuries from war. You can easily see the damage bullets do to bone and the crude instruments used to retrieve them from the flesh. Wish I could have taken more pictures, but that is forbidden. Nice clean bathrooms, coat closet, lockers, and lobby. Good discount for students, military, and kids under 5. A must see for medical students, people who love oddities, and those who are curiously wondering this blue marble.

abagail gutierrez

There's so much to look at. So many conditions. It helps you gain such a respect and understanding of diseases and conditions because not all are surface things. Many are underneath the surface. This allows you to see and understand that. I think it was amazing.

Josh Baker

Smaller than I thought it would be. Expensive for the little artifacts that are there. Some of the items were really neat and stomach turning.

Kirsten Darrow

An incredible museum with an out door section that's beautiful! If you like skeletons it's an absolute must!

Sara Long

This one was on my bucket list. If you are interested in medicine or the human body, this is the place to visit. Full of wet and dry specimens that give you a unique view of what can go wrong, anomalies, and just a view of things you dont get a chance to see make this a great destination. No pics from here because you cant take them inside the collection (out of respect for the people and pieces of people interred here). Such a cool place.

John Bozarth

Great venue for a wedding. Absolutely beautiful.

Mel

Small but very detailed science museum with oddities and many cadavers, fetuses and skeletons. Extremely informative but don't go during the week, too many kids.

Max Chae

This medical specimen museum holds creepy cadaver specimens. A good place to visit if interested in medicine and its history of progress.

Big K-Man

Very unique museum. Will see a lot of body parts on display. Our 9 and 10 year olds actually found it engaging and educational. Not for people with weak stomachs.

Jennifer Soto

I've been wanting to visit this place for YEARS. It was great. We got the double tickets to see the Mutter and the Penn museum. (6/15/19 visited and most exhibits in Penn were closed for renovation. I wouldn't bother going until more has opened. Just stick with Mutter.) No photos allowed so none to post but it was fantastic.

Ashley Ellis

So cool. So much to look at. Good price to get in. Had an awesome experince

Jonathan Loughman

Other than the security following me around line the gustapo......i guess lots of tattoos and giant holes in your ear still scare old people.... this place is great and ive visited many times.

Lilian L.

A very cool, creepy and amazing museum! I learned so much and I would go back there again for their new exhibitions.

Sam Fenster

Great little museum. Not for the faint of heart with all the medical oddities. Very neat preserved specimens.

Roman Rabinovich

Interesting museum for the medically curious. Lots of interesting exhibits that you wouldn't necessarily find in a more conventional museum. Budget 1.5 hours to get the full experience.

Charles Nugent

There is a good chance that unless you attended Medical School or are a mortician...this will be the weirdest place that you have ever been. It was very interesting, but for me, at times, it was a bit gross. The museum is very professionally presented..and it is interesting. As uncomfortable as it will make you at times...you will learn and see things that you would not have otherwise been exposed to...for that alone...it is worth a visit.

Dennis Charolle

Superb collection of human organs, bones, animals. Makes you really appreciate the delicate nature of the human body

Holly Dawn Hewlett

My first time here. A gift for my fiance, amazing museum. If you like medical science, oddities, macabre human specimens; this is the place you!! No bags, no photos and there are lockers to store your stuff.

Kelly Gregory

Just amazing! I had a lot of fun. I woyld recommend going during a less busy time then Saturday afternoon.

Jilly G

This is one of my favorite museums! It's fascinating and I learn a lot while I'm there! It's a must see in Philly.

Dan Betz

The displays were very neat. We spent about two hours there and saw every exhibit. I was a little disappointed by how many wax and paper mache recreations there were.

James Rollins Jr

I've visited a lot of museums, and there is no museum like the Mutter. If you are into the weird or macabre, you'll love this museum. It's not a huge place, but there are so many things to see there. It's also probably not for really small kids, but those over 10 will probably be fine (as long as you don't mind doing some explaining). Just one of those great oddball place.

Matthew Lynch

The skull wall is very interesting make sure you take your time to take it all in!

Eva Berglund

A very interesting and large display of skulls from different cultures including finds from Egypt. Examples of skeletons, body parts and histories of some of the people that donated their bodies to science for study of their diseases and deformities.

Josh Hatchette

Very informative, Just a bit disappointed with the garden in the back of the museum. I now herbs aren't the focus of a medical museum, but I feel like it could be spruced up much more. Not being able to take photographs was another disappointment, but that I can understand. Very nice otherwise, but be prepared to squeeze through crowds of people while visiting.

Jess Shurock

It is always interesting to see the new parts of the collection on display here! What I find most interesting is the exhibits are put together by current medical students! A really cool learning experience for all ages!

Shannon Mahan

Oddly fascinating. Probably one of the more interesting things I did. Easy walk from hotels near the marketplace.

Myrna Elfenbein

Beautiful building and lovely setting for recently attended wedding. Gorgeous outside garden

Krystal Harden

So Fascinating! Go early to avoid crowds, it is a smaller museum BUT worth visiting if your in the medical field or interested in medical anomalies. No strollers or back packs allowed, no photographs allowed. We personally could spend hours reading and looking, or you could zip right through it depends on how in depth you want to get. Parked right behind the museum so that was convenient but a little pricey.

Damian Roa

A one-of-a-kind must see experience. Truly macabre and dark, with an old world mysterious air. The artifacts and medical history here are fascinating and really highlight how far medicine has advanced. If you're in philladelphia and have any interest in medicine, spooky stuff, history, or science, GO.

Ryan Caswell

Visited the Mütter Museum aftering hearing about it on the Sawbones podcast. It was a bit smaller than I expected (read: cramped) but it was fascinating and the displays more than made up for the awkward dance you have to do around other museum goers. Also, THE GARDEN! It's a must see!

Brian Feather

Some of the most interesting articles I've can see in all of Philadelphia city. For the student, as well as the curious, and even the morbidly curious, real live dead people, parts, skulls, and everything in between. Instruments of medicine, items removed from the stomach of the unfortunate as well as the compulsive. Gift shop has cool gifts from low to reasonable prices. Would recommend.

Skin Quilt Productions

SOOO COOL. Lots of cool things to look at including skulls with cause of death. Deformed fetuses, wet specimens, and gross bodily stuff. I was bummed that there were not many things to look at that were newer that the 50's but thats ok, it was still awesome. I wish the museum was 10x bigger. A definite must see when you are in the area.

Khal NEPA

Different! No pics allowed, and I can respect that given the nature of some exhibits. Some things are real, many are just replications which was disappointing. Don't get overly excited about this and you will be very pleased, if you expect too much you will be disappointed. Good value for admission.

Nate Gagnon

Interesting, redundant, small... but it was unique. If you’re bored or nearby, check it out. But I’m not sure if I’d make a special trip just for that.

NSA BurritoMan

Well done. Most things in here are all real examples and donated. Very quite and peaceful.

Shawn Bartley

interesting museum with great human curiosities. nice lighting. nice displays. convenient parking. nice nearby restaurants on chesnut street. the museum would be better if there were docents to answer questions for the medically uninformed.

Jayson Cosgrove

Great exhibits and really fascinating things to see

Mason Manning

We ended up with a layover in Philadelphia. Decision to spend some time here was well worth the effort.

Chris Kendall

It was quite Informative indeed. There is an exhibit about the grimm fairy tales that is quite humorous.

Melinda Godack

An extensive collection of medical oddities with the history of medical advancements. Photographs are limited to certain areas such as the main lobby. Lockers are available to store personal belongings. You will need a quarter to use--its returned once the key is used to open it back up. There is also a small quirky gift shop with lots of books and funny memorabilia.

Pam Richardson

Don't go on weekends, very crowded. Week days are probably better. Great date location and learning the human body.

Liz Piantedosi

If you are in the Philadelphia area you're doing yourself a disservice by not visiting the physicians college. The Mutter museum is a facinating look at the medical oddities of our time and just how far we've come in the way of treatments. Very educational, informative, a bit creepy, but so fun!

Susmita Sanyal

It w concept a a fun visit. They don't allow you to take pictures inside the museum. Overall it took us less than an hour to see everything, meaning the collection is not as large but it's very educational and I learned a lot about human anatomy and difference diseases.

Hedy Lewis

Very interesting displays, but walking around the crowded area was a bit uncomfortable.

Shaina Elizabeth

Good to see once, but wouldn’t rush to go back. If you are into medical anomalies you will like this museum. Not recommended for young children.

Thomas Jones

It's great of you like that kind of stuff, wasn't my cup of tea.

Tony Spagnoli

The Mutter Museum is a truly special place. In the absolutely weirdest way! Full of preserved medical oddities (conjoined human babies) and facts about medical devices, medicine during wartime, and other interesting bits of information you never thought you needed to know. It's not a huge museum. I would say a visit, if you're taking your time, will be no longer than two hours. And because of that, I found the price to be a little steep. If you're an Access card holder in Pennsylvania they do participate in the ArtsReach program which discounts admission significantly. That being said, because it's collection is so incredibly unique and wonderful it is absolutely worth the money and your time.

Jennifer Manton

Very informative and interesting place to visit. You have to like the medical sciences I feel to be interested in what they have on exhibit.

Sylvana Garcia

Very informative and awesome comprehensive collection, lots of wax replicas of biological oddities and abnormalities

Gregg Koop

Worst Customer experience I've ever had. My daughter who was graduating Drexel that night and was actually wearing her cap and gown, was refused the student discount by a very angry woman at the entrance. We were just stunned. My daughter is a cancer survivor and wanted to go the the museum. I don't care about the $5. I just couldn't believe the level of rudeness. Will never step near this place again and will make sure that I spread the word to anyone I can what happened here. Besides that the museum is vastly overpriced and gives a better discount to children than to military. GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

Kristy Robinson

great museum with lots of medical oddities on display. don't recommend if you get an easily queasy stomach. go on a monday or tuesday for a discounted ticket. you can't take photos of the main museum but everywhere else encourages you too and to tag them. the outside herbal garden is pretty and the gift shop is great.

Stacey Murphy

Very interesting museum! Amazing collection of skulls. Lots to see here.

Laura Chenault

Stuff in jars. Skeletons. Great detailed information on their samples.

Marc Kobrin

I was told to visit the Mutter Museum, wow! It houses some very unique, weird and interesting exhibits. If you are in town, its a must see.

Jenn Alberti

This was my second visit to the Mütter Museum, as I wanted to share it with a guest. The atmosphere is perfect for the collection, and the displays are tasteful and informative. One staff member shared very relevant and interesting tidbits of back-stories and experiences. That really showed dedication to the exhibits, and respect for those whose bodies are there. The gift shop had a great little set of fun and even macabre items that held our interest until closing. 2.5 hours is perfect to spend here, we were a little short and missed the outdoor plant exhibit.

Angie

It's smaller than I thought it would be. Some interesting stuff but the 20.00 entrance fee is a bit much. For me it was a one and done visit.

Mary Jane

Awesome museum with so much cool stuff to look at and read. Expect to spend all day there if u find this macob kinda stuff interesting. I didn't expect to be there until close looking at so much stuff!

Wolf Warrior

Couldn't see the exbit bevause of the blackout that had ecougered on the trip but the service is great with help

Paige Gallagher

An impressive collection of bizarre human medical specimens.

Alexandrea Kensinger

All sorts of interesting things here. It's small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in content. We spent well over an hour here viewing the hundreds of artifacts and oddities that line the walls in floor to ceiling book cases. It can get a bit cramped if it's crowded due to its size but definitely worth the trip either way. Not a place for children that are scared easily and if you haven't had the birds and the bees talk yet there is one small section with reproductive organs that you may want to stay away from. Overall it was a really terrific museum.

Shannon Carvin

Great museum. You should probably have a good stomach if you want to go here. It sometimes can make you want to puke. But overall has cool health things.

Stephen Puglisi

Educate yourself Just go and read . See how far medical science has come. See anomalies and other medical issues from around the world. Discover what horrible acts a lead ball from a flit lock riffle do to bone during the civil war era.. I could go on and on , go see it all for yourself.

Jay Schuchardt

Not a large museum but there are numerous displays with alot of information. Clean and well kept. They have a side 'garden', worth taking a walk through. Definitely recommend this museum. Several displays relate how Philadelphia played a pivotal role during and after the Civil War. No pictures once inside the museum, my pictures are were taken outside, the foyer and garden.

Veronica Turner

If you're even remotely interested in medical stuff, you ought to find this place pretty interesting. There's a lot of stuff to look at that's cool.

Tori Brletich

Awesome museum if you're not squeamish, and the medicinal garden is lovely too! Definitely a place beyond description, just go!!

Mark Fekete

A unique experience. You must be willing to be open to things that are a little peculiar and related to death. Can't wait got the museum's addition/remodel. Even the unique garden of medicinal plants was unique. Definitely worth a visit if your in Philadelphia.

Andrew Haley

If you're interested in learning about early surgery and medicine than this is the place for you. The mutter museum houses some serious medical oddities inside of a gorgeous old building. If you have and hour or two and aren't squeamish, this is the stop for you.

Keri Case

Amazing experience. Awesome exhibits. The museum is a little smaller than I anticipated but there was so much to see.

Dale Howard

They deserve five stars. Thus said I didn't care for it. This was on my wife's bucket list. A bit macabre for me. But I certainly recognize it as an excellent museum. If you like skulls, skeletons and colons, you'll love this place! I did find the skeletons of the giant and dwarf next to each other interesting.

Lindsay S

Fun, educational place. Had a blast there with my classmates. Want to go there again, but this time with my kids and some close classmates again. It was amazing and a must see for anyone who loves the medical field and history.

Menahil Bakhat

Amazing exibits, very interesting. Lots of cool and fun sights to see. I would say this is for kids 14+. Lots of cool preserved items from over 200 years ago. Lots of explaining of history too. Very fun and interesting. Thought it would be bad but it was surprisingly very fun and lots to do their.

Yaz Giraldo

Fun little museum that offers a good collection of bodily oddities. Recently went with two children, 8 and 11,and they also enjoyed it too. Lots of questions were brought up. It is not a typical child friendly place but can still be enjoyed with older children.

Jeanette Parker

Visited on a Saturday, it was packed. Most of the exhibits had stories to go with the person or families. There were things I'd never seen up close before like medical oddities. There is also a garden outside which has some everyday items such as garlic but also killer plants, literally! It was educational and interesting.

Anthony Lukens

First time and I was blown away. Some of the stuff was so fascinating !! The employees were friendly and the prices at the gift shop were reasonable

Catherine S

Hm, what a strange but fascinating place. Worth an afternoon of your time, I’d say, if you’re in the medical field and/or have a keen interest in body parts, organs, and weird things. If you’re a student they have a student rate (if you don’t have your ID show them an email from your school email address!) Could get a bit crowded at times and some people can have poor spatial awareness so you may get bonked or run into at times in the narrowe balcony galleries.

Marquita Brown

Went to the Mutter Museum for the first time with my ten-year-old daughter. She loved ever bit of it! I can guarantee that the next time we're in Philadelphia she will make me go again.

Evan Zhang

Very unique and well organized museum. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. Would recommend

Oz

A great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Philly. $20 for an adult ticket and kept me engaged for two hours. A warning though, if you are squeamish, avoid this museum as there are many exhibits of skulls, body parts etc.. otherwise, it is a must see!

Haoshu Li

A small museum full of interesting samples of medical abnormalities.

Megan Prosser

The Mutter Museum is a must see if you are visiting Philly. We spent about three hours here reading and learning about so many odd things that the human body does. There are so many historical pieces that give you an amazing peek into what healthcare was like only 100 years ago! Make sure you read about Albert Einsteins brain, the Mega Colon and the Shrunken Heads, among many more.

Jeffery Beck

We were here for a wedding reception. Fantastic food and service extrodinaire. In addition, we would like to come back and visit the medical museum, which looks incredible. Clearly a "hidden treasure" of Philadelphia!!

Amy Olsen

This was a thoughtful and informative museum. There were some extraordinary specimens on display but they were contextualized very well. I was a little disappointed in the medicinal gardens and felt that could be developed a little more but it was overall a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.

Naseem Chaudhry

I was really looking forward to visiting this museum. The museum is two floors and it’s not fit for all the people that visit. It’s very enclosed and at times it felt like it was hard to breathe. A lot the items on display were made of wax. The guy at the front where we purchased tickets wasn’t the nicest but that was whatever. We couldn’t take any photos. People were taking photos but the one security person there was slumped in her chair so I guess it’s not really enforced? Overall it was fine. I would recommend visiting on the two days they sell discounted tickets for. $18 is a bit steep for lots of replicas and wax. The medicinal garden was interesting and full of useful information.

Robert Cardoni

Amazingly disturbing. A museum of medical oddities. There’s no pictures allowed inside and it is small - so when it is busy it’s a tight squeeze in there. Don’t miss the gardens before you leave

Whitney Sandberg

Very interesting but not for folks like me with a weak stomach.

Cecilia Rawheiser

Amazing! In a curious science anatomy kind of way. Skull collection is fascinating, and I am still talking about that giant colon.

AC Babe

Love this place, so many neat things to see!

John Frank

Fantastic. Go on a week day, fewer visitors.

N P0611

Chock full of fascinating medical oddities. A must-see for those interested in this sort of thing. Gift shop is full of unique items.

Brian Alpers

This place is great. Lots to see and learn about if you like the morbid and weird. Ant wait to see how they expand

Brigitte Wiss

Some displays are very old. Particularly in the jars. Some of the conservation liquid should be changed. It is so dark and old we cannot see what is in the jar. Interesting but thought it would be a bigger exhibit.

Ashley McHenry

A bucket-list cross off. The Mutter museums is endlessly fascinating and macabre. Your visit will inspire many eerie conversations and bad dreams. Must see! Can't wait to return.

Eula Dixon

Set in an older house, this museum houses medical oddities. If you are squeamish or faint of heart, I would skip this. This museum is truly morbid but also very informational for the average lay person. They have two stories of bizarre medical tales and you can see how far we have come medically. The cost wasn't too bad and we spent around 2 hours there. I would recommend going in the afternoon, after the school kids arrive. The only downside was the garden outside wasn't blooming-because it's February. Which means we just need to go back!

Sarah Arzt

I have wanted to come here for years. But my 11 year old and six year old were pretty traumatized despite talking about all of the good things science has learned from people who have died. The six year old hoped that she would forget the experience pretty quickly.

Tiffany McCarty

Loved the Mutter Museum and all the strange and interesting collections they had! Very neat, especially for those with an interest in medicine/anatomy. Would definitely recommend and come back.

James Zuger

The Mütter Meusum is great and interesting. You should probably eat after you visit if you have a week stomach for diseased human remains.

Leticia Amorim

Important to say that photos aren’t allowed inside the Museum. Purses and bags are also not allowed but have a free locker available. When I visited it was still unfinished but it is a very interesting place that you need to include in your travel itinerary!! Lots of interesting stories from known people and rare cases of medicine! If you are a visually sensitive person go prepared because some images are a little strong but overall worth the experience.

Bee Bee

Always wanted to visit here and it finally happened

Sylvie MacKenzie

Quite interesting and very different. Not for little kids but perfect for teenagers

Phoenix Williams

Awesome experience, not a huge place but there is a lot to see.

Rowan Sileo

One of my favorite stops in Philly, it is totally worth it to add it to your visit. I do recommand going on days were it will be quiet and tickets are on sale. It can be a little pricey and sometimes very busy. It has a ton of history and I feel like I learn something new each time.

Christopher Collins

Creeped me out a bit. Small, but has interesting exibits.

Edward Walck

This museum claims that out of respect for the dead in the museum they have banned photography, but in reality, the ban has been enacted to make the museum even more mysterious to the public. I thought I would see equal parts informative displays of human bodies and medical equipment. Instead, it is mostly just butchered up bodies, many fetuses, infants, and organs in jars. There is no explanation for what you are looking at for most of the displays, so it is just for the untrained people to gawk at the macabre without even a guided or self-guided audio tour. It would maybe make sense if you were a medical student or professional who knew what they were looking at, but that is not what is going on here. It seems like this was made for medical professionals to utilize for educational purposes, but has evolved into something like a freak show. This museum really needs a mission or purpose other than to generate as much money as possible. It was overly crowded and disorientating because there was literally no reason or purpose for the museum other than to make money. It really is sickening to make money off of deceased people by displaying them to the public, many of whom could not have possibly given consent. Instead of learning more about the medical field, I left the museum disillusioned with the entire medical field. There has to be better ways to solicit the funds needed to keep the beautiful building intact.

Judy Earl

So cool! - wish we could have visited longer! Could have easily spent another 2 hours here! Ended up being able to stay about an hr and a half though. Very crowded. Some people stand and look at the same thing for EVER and it makes it hard to see it for yourself but whatever. Some really crazy things here for sure

Simon Laufer

Creepy place, but if you like it...

Peter Wodrich

Not at all what I was expecting. Just two rooms, a fair amount of which is repetitive. Overpriced for the minimal amount of content. Can easily see the displays in less than an hour.

Wendi White

Worth a visit if you like visiting death. There's definitely a lot of things to read about, some good explanations, some not. Many of the real items on display are kind of redundant. I read the 1 star ratings before I read the 5 star ratings and I think the 1 star ratings give a good review of what's going on here. However I chose 4 stars because for what it is - this type of display is a rarity. If you appreciate oddities this place is worth a visit.

Jason Reed

If you're looking to see some interesting medical marvels and pieces of history, this is a place to see.

Minerva Von Schatz

Good small museum that you can see in 2 hours or 5. They hold neat events here too. Very cool medicinal garden in the back. Reminds me of the little museums littered in London that are jam packed with well researched and curated locally relevant information.

Kala Gorman

Extremely crowded / close quarters, but overall experience was incredibly interesting

Lily Le-Sheppard

For myself, this place wasn't for me...BUT youngest sister (who is in a first responder program in high school) LOVED it. She thought it was the coolest, most fascinating thing. She looked at every exhibit and read every placard. This museum displayed all the different, strange, and maybe even bizarre aspects of the human body. Photography IS NOT permitted within the museum exhibit itself. Security have eagle eyes and will call you out. I say this as a person who jumped any time security called out someone to stop. The museum gives off a rather eerie feel but that could also just be me and I startle ridiculously easy. While I would not visit this place again for myself. I may go again if my sister wanted to.

Craig Lenhard - rvrguyd

Interesting place to see skulls and learn about them.

Enno G.

20 bucks is a bit much but it was still fascinating and creepy in a good way

Jennifer Williams

Attended a wedding reception at this beautiful place. Food was delicious, catering staff was wonderful, and the Mutter museum was fascinating. It was a lovely evening. Parking could be tricky, we had valet as part of the event.

roy wilson

This is a very interesting display and presentation of the history of medicine in the us. The gallery is filled with compelling narratives about the collection, and is a must see for anyone fascinated by the field.

Keri James

Very interesting displays and super cool gift shop! If you're not into slightly morbid anatomy dont go, but it's a must see!

Hannah Mellor

Awesome exhibit, worth the $18 but dont go on a Saturday if you can avoid it. It really was their busiest day.

Kate Sutliff

Our visit to the Mutter Museum was fantastic! It can be intense and is not for the faint of heart. The collection is extensive. The history is truly a window into the science of the past. It was on my bucket list of places to visit in Philly. Strong recommend - visit the website first to get an idea of what you're in for.

Chris Sawyer

This was one our favourite stops during our family's tour of Philadelphia including my 9 year old girl. I just wish I had read up on some of the more detailed websites before as it was quite busy so wasn't able to read a lot of the small cards posted on the exhibits. If the oddities that can occur inside the body or how they were researched in time past interest you, this is a must visit.

Steve Steele

Loved it. It's really nice. Interesting. Great displays. Clean. Nice garden area and gift shop. Parking was very close. 20.00 flat rate weekend in the lot.

Traci Fix

My son and I went and it was fascinating. I love medical stuff like this

Tom Chan

Spending a beautiful afternoon indoor looking at human body parts wasn't a perfect day. It was very informative and you saw things that you never saw or would want to see again. Don't skip the outdoor garden especially on a nice sunny day.

Ryan Leonard

We booked a private party here and everything was wonderful. Party was a hit. The museum itself is a delightfully morbid experience that should not be missed.

Brian Hagan

The Mutter Museum was incredibly fascinating. Probably not for those with a weak stomach or sensitive to seeing body parts. No photography allowed inside which was a bummer, but student prices were a plus! Definitely recommend checking out for those visiting from out of town...seems to be less busy than the independence mall area.

Shannon Crow

This place is tight. Very interesting and also educational. The whole family loved it but my kids love bizarre stuff. Just to note, the coat room was soooo packed and no strollers allowed in the museum. So pack light if you're heading here for the afternoon.

Benjamin

Many interesting medical facts and discoveries. Learned a lot about diseases and origins of different types of treatments.

Carrie Grossgloss

Very cool museum!! Worth the price but give yourself time to walk the entire place.

Maggie W

Very cool place but not for children. This is how doctors back in the day learned skin diseases, spine & skull issues, babies born with deformities. The employees were extremely kind and answered questions that we had. We will be back.

Yao Wong

Charming, historic location. There's supposedly a curious museum on site, although I didn't have a chance to visit that.

dre dre

The most intriguing museum in philly. Funny gift shop. Go early. Don't bring a backpack or beverage.

Maya Flemming

If your an artist please don't forget your sketch book! If your an artist who is squeamish like I am, leave the sketch book behind and draw out of anatomy books and models. If you have a lot empathy for people this might be a hard museum to visit especially if you have a tour guide. Ours told us some in depth background stories of the deceased people on display. PS. No photos allowed inside.

Susan Stein

This building is a very old historic site. It's absolutely gorgeous inside & out. The rooms are furnished with antiques, maybe their originals, & they along with the wooden doors & walls are polished to perfection. The museum is incredible! I don't want to be a spoiler so won't attempt to describe the exhibits. The gift shop is a delight! We went to see Caitlin Doughty speak & the room was sold out! Luckily we got tickets early online. She's fabulous, knows her stuff & has a marvelous sense of humor. Her delivery is outstanding! Afterwards she hugged anyone & everyone interested at a photo op for all interested. If you don't know who she is, check out "Ask a Mortician" on Youtube. It was a fabulous day! The only thing that could have made it better is the parking situation. Because of the location it's necessary to park in a lot which is a bit pricey, but well worth it.

Greg Wood

Awesome museum. So many interesting things to see and learn about. Though it isn't huge you could spend all day if you wanted wandering about and being amazed. Great combination of the bizarre and medical facts and information. Will definitely be going back.

Interesting place when visiting Philly. Very informative, with a hint of the weird factor. Glad my friends suggested it. No pictures allowed, so just enjoy.

I finally visited the museum in August....I’ve been wanting to for YEARS! It did not disappoint. The exhibits are fascinating and many are somewhat macabre in light of modern medicine. My 14 yo granddaughter, who plans on becoming a physician, was enthralled! Her 12 yo cousin not so much. My one gripe is that while we there two groups of nursing students were also there. It greatly limited our ability to enjoy all of the exhibits. One group of about 20 stood in front of the wall of skulls while their instructor gave what seemed like a full lecture. They totally blocked access from both ends. Very poor form.

Nice museum! Filled with the some very interesting medical oddities.

Mário Vieira

Interesting ... But $20 is so much

Ed Weller

Very interesting. So many things to see that you will never see anywhere else

We visited the Mutter Museum here. They have a large collection of medical oddities (though most of these were only "odd" at the time, whereas medicine has explanations for them now). They also have an herbal medicine garden. Very informative, liked this museum a lot.

Gene Roseberry

Very cool. Take the kids if you want a doctor.

Angie Melhado

Such an interesting place to visit...not for the little ones though

Mary Kylee Smith

Beautiful building and collection. The staff are friendly and educated. Amazing to see the history.

Angela Hughes

Fascinating, disturbing, and so interesting!

Lori Gleich

Very interesting! You must see if you're in Philadelphia!

I really enjoyed the museum. If you are interested in the history of medicine or are fascinated with the oddities that can come with and from the human body, then this is the place for you. The museum does warn against bringing kids under the age of ten and I would definitely take this seriously as most of the exhibits are human remains. Favourite parts had to be the actual shrunken heads and the civil war projectiles.

I haven't been here in 10 years but they have redone it and it's very well organized.

This place was SO COOL and had been on my list of attractions to see for years before I finally had the chance! So many amazing oddities and scientific information from the years. It was amazing and we got to see a special exhibit while we were there too. Very awe-inspiring and a must-see when you visit!

Very interesting displays. But the museum is small. If it's crowded, you don't get that good of an experience. Many of the displays were not properly labeled, or labeled in such a way that I really couldn't read about the item, but there were plenty of employees on hand willing to answer questions. I would have liked if they had someone knowledgeable about the medicinal garden available to give more information about the plants there. I did like that they had an area available to take children that might get a little weirded out by the displays (a "cool down" room with coloring sheets and crayons). And the ladies showing the preview for this Fall's upcoming 1918 Flu Pandemic exhibition were engaging and knowledgeable. 8/10

Jesse Chisum

A little pricey and smaller than expected but a very nice experience.

I've been wanting to visit Philly just to come to the museum. It's a unique stop but if you have any interest in the medical field or just seeing odd things I recommend coming. FYI, I had read all about no photos in the museum but I didn't read about no backpacks. There are no backpacks allowed, even my tiny one I have that's the size of a purse. They have lockers though, I didn't have a quarter to use but the admission desk provided one for me.

Great and interesting museum, macabre and bizaare but also extremely fascinating. Great for family trips if everyone has the stomach for it!

Daniel Rosenfeld

Great museum to see the creepy 19th origins of modern medicine. There is a wall of skulls and a woman who turned into soap.

Jennifer Juhasz

The Mutter museum has one of the coolest museum collections. Tons of anatomical oddities and curiosities. A little macabre, a little bizarre, but totally real and educational. My 6 and 10 year old girls were entranced

Andrew Pelletier

Very small inside, not bad price for students. Lots of cool information and history
