This Museum corresponds to the category of History museum.
Incredible collection of "everything" imaginable.
It has a wide range of subject maters engaging a wide scope of interests. Grate for kids as well as scholars.
Very cool things. Lots of cool artifacts, tools, and even instruments.
We were so surprised on how much fun we had, there. The museum was big, 7 floors. We had fun looking at items, saying this was how it was done in the past and we have a new way now.
Took my daughter here and we both had a great time learning how things were in the past. The tour took about two hours and was well worth our time. The gallows on the top floor was a bit creepy, but also interesting.
The moment I walked into this 7 acres of castle, I time traveled to 18th and 19th century with all kinds of housing tools and other artifacts of America's preindustrial past. Time went by fast about 2 hours. The busiest day is on Sunday.
Very interesting a d beautiful tile. Marcy was a great tour guide.
Visited on National museum day. Lots of fun stuff there.
Alot of interesting material.
Very nice museum with lots of interesting information about a lot of different things from printing to whaling!
The quilt exhibit alone was worth the trip. The rest of the museum is also a great experience. Did not have time for the castle,
What a crazy collection of things! Could easily walk through it again and see all new things. Expensive though.
Interesting..... a must see!
This place is so neat! Great way to get a feel for how products were made before automation. Each room is set up for one particular trade and every turn brings a new surprise. If you're into American history or just fascinated by old products and ways of life, this museum is definitely worth the visit. Allow 1-2 hours.
What a place! At first, it looks like the castle in Edward Scissorhands, but then i realized that every piece had an individual story. Glad we drove to see this place!
Brilliant exposition of tools, manufacturing processes throughout the history of the USA.
Cool place.
Cool
It is like stepping into a magical castle! It is fun and a little kooky!
A very unique museum, and certainly a worthwhile place to visit. It is fun to get a look into the life of earlier Americans. My favorite thing about the place is probably the building itself, there are so many nooks and crannies to explore with interesting and odd architecture. The sections made for kids are pretty poorly done, but otherwise it's a nice museum.
Wonderful place for history lovers! No heat or AC, so dress accordingly. Start at the top, and work your way down.
Excellent place to spend a rainy day. Kids had a blast
Well worth the visit
Very Interesting
nice, reminds me of all the tools my grandpa had on his farm in Lombardy when I was a child.
Fascinating collection of pre-industrial artifacts. Shows how we might live if technology suddenly disappears!
Very interesting and unique museum
So cool and beautiful! The most unique museum I've ever been to! However if you go in the winter or summer dress appropriately/be prepared bc it doesn't have heat or ac bc it's an all cement. I went in December when it was freezing and luckily I read reviews before going so we dressed warm with hand and feet warmers and it was so worth it!
A fascinating collection of items used in 18th and 19th Century commerce. Whale boats and trying pots, a Conestoga wagon, a stae coach, tools and implements for every thing from farming to tinsmithing to rope and shoe making and many others collected, and thus saved, as factories and assembly lines began to overwhelm the individual tradespeople. And that doesn't mention the building that houses it. Part fantasy castle, perhaps Dracula's, that is worth the trip alone.
So much history everything from hat making tools to vampire killing kits
interesting place, close to home and my son thought it was cool! #momwin
Coolest set up you will ever see
Alotbof fun. Real glad nothing fell on my head from the roof. Had me scared the entire time I was on the ground floor
This is a great museum with plenty of rooms to explore and learn facts about the important figures of our history!
Awesome love the gift shop nice job Beth.
Very Interesting exhibit of the original pod used to test all 7 of the first mercury astronauts. This exhibit is there for a limited time only so if you're a space buff, then you need to check this out.
Took the kids for Smithsonian Museum Day. Great experience. Very different from a typical museum. A lot of interesting pieces. Though our visit was free- I believe the price during normal hours to be reasonable. Parking is free. Excellent opportunity to expose children to a history experience. They offered a scavenger hunt during our visit. Worth the journey and within distance of downtown doylestown and several other interesting places.
Interesting and unique museum. Hot in the summer and, I imagine, cold in the winter. Worth the trip.
Certainly a very interesting building with a tremendous amount of American early trades tools, farm implements and commercial products.
A fascinating museum made out of poured concrete. It has a large collection of early American artifacts. Everything from tools of just about every trade to boats, carriages, and other vehicles. Henry Mercer’s nearby concrete castle is also worth checking out.
Go unguided and move at your own pace. Took me about 1.5 hrs . All ages will enjoy and you really see lots of this castle itself. Parking lot was full sun, hard to find a shady spot to leave dog in car, but found one. Lots of fun.
Very cool and inexpensive. A great way to spend a few hours without spending a fortune.
This place is interesting as any place I have been. First, parking and landscaping were excellent. It is attached to a modern building. Staff was exceptionally nice and informative. The kids interactive section was ok. I'm not 7 years old so my opinion of that will vary with others. Read about the history before you go. This will reduce your time in the museum and you won't block the hallways saying things like, it's all concrete and wow. Just know the history of the dogs and the ghosts. It's a weird museum, filled with stuff. Like things you would find in a cool, old guys garage. Walk around the corner and more weird stuff. It's multiple floors of insanity and fun. The top floor had a gallows. Their is a cool kids museum, a lot of stuff to look at and just a great experience. The "bad". It is an old building, really cool old building. Like castle like and interesting. With this, no heat or air conditioning. That's the only knock, we went on a hot humid day and it wasn't bad. Bathrooms. Get a map, know where the bathrooms are. They are stationed all over the place and maybe not where you would think. Nothing worse than thinking a bathroom is on every floor...they are not on every floor. The bathrooms were clean, energy efficient and smelled like a chlorinated pool...I like that. Getting there. Easy, use a GPS. Gift store, it's a museum, typically gifty things. Places to eat, not in the museum. Which is ok but pack a snack if you are an eater. Why a 5? Because I would go back in a minute. I loved the place.
Amazing!
Amazing. Per-industrial only. I spent several hours and it felt like a few min. Will go again.
The Mercer Museum houses a collection of early Americana, with the building itself serving as one of the artifacts. It's a fascinating look into another time.
Different. Most things behind glass AND far enough away to not allow close examination.
So much to see, so little time. Suggest you allow plenty to see it all. Got the package, museum and Fonthill Castle. Very cool. Didn't get to the library. Will def go back to see the tileworks too next time.
Great place to bring visitors! This is a really unique museum experience. Tell people you are taking them to a museum and then bring them to this crazy concrete castle full of old knick knacks and tools from early American life. There's a little snack room with wifi on the first floor if your feet need a rest. There's an elevator to go from floor to floor if walking 7 stories is a lot for your guests. I usually go to the top floor and work my way down. Parking is free and the gift shop is reasonably priced!
One-of-a-kind, old school museum of pre-industrial Americana. A fun building to explore.
Military discount offered here. Thanks for a very great experience. This is self paced and lots to see. There is no AC indoors so know it may be a bit warm throughout the castle. Other than that...it was fun to see.
Very Interesting place lots of things to look at unfortunately we went after 2 days of below freezing weather so it was really cold inside so dress warm
Cool place .... Must see.
People at the museum we're all very nice. The space exhibit was unfortunately too simplistic.
Museum itself is very nice. I believe it was about 36 bucks for the 4 of us. Many very interesting and well done displays. The little gift shop however is an embarrassment. Tried to buy a couple small sticker books for my two kids...$4.22 . Great...I hand over the debit card..."Oh..I'm sorry..we only accept cards for 5 dollars or more." Are you serious?! It was so uncomfortable. Wife digging for a few bucks in her purse while the staff stands there and stares at us and my kids. We ended up having the kids leave them on the counter and left. So you lost your $4.22 sale, embarrassed yourselves and left 2 little kids trying to figure out what the heck happened. Hope that was worth the 30 cent transaction fee you saved yourselves.
The perfect kind of history
Unique museum.
Creative use of space. Interesting collection.
Unique historic building, focusing on pre industrial age, so tools and manual methods to manufacture are housed in windowed exhibits, some suspended in the central space. Many scavenger hunting and rooms for children. Convenient location to Michener art museum and Bucks county library.
Fun place to take kids
Awesome display. Fascinating story behind the museum and how it came to be.
Been there 2x such a great place.
Love this museum and the lecture was informative and very interesting
The museum has a tremendous collection of the tools used throughout history. Very cool place that is absolutely worth the money (approx $15) to spend a couple of hours exploring.
Gift shop visit only. Lots of made in USA stuff!
Lots to look at and people that know a lot about the antiques.
Guide was informative. Nice tour.
Great way to spend a couple hours looking at the tools that were once used by each trade. They have each trade separated into different rooms, then all the tools used for that specific trade. The building itself was probably my favorite as it's unique and maze like towards the top.
Great museum to visit with family and friends of all ages. Staff very helpful and informative! Very clean restrooms and well kept! Highly recommended!
Went to fonthill mansion. It was amazing. Tour guide Brian was outstanding and everyone was super nice. Great time. Would highly suggest.
Quirky. Lots of old technology thst made you appreciate things you take for granted now. Gothic/concrete bunker architecture that is very cool, sort of a Addams Family meets Rommel's Atlantic Wall fusion. Note not heated or cooled. Go early on summer days, ride elevator uo to the 6th floor and work your way down from there to the cooler lower levels. About a two hour visit in my opinion. $15 adult /$13 senior admission.
Fascinating place.A must see attraction.
The best place Evah!! Ill go back again and again!! Kids loved the scavenger hunt!!
Very informative and great trip for children.
HEALTH WARNING: those with allergies/sensitive to mold, be aware this museum is very moldy. Otherwise, very cool museum!
So many things, so many rooms, one could get lost! A unique collection of everyday things.
Excellent museum. I would go again and again
We spent nearly the entire afternoon doing genealogy research in the library. Not pleased that we had to pay two admissions to the museum to have access to the library (hence the loss of a star). The librarian was very friendly and tried her best to help.
Great place to explore
So much to see about our history. Absolutely enjoyed it all.
Unfortunately my visit to the town was during a holiday week, so I didn't get to enjoy the inside. However the entire town seemed to be very relaxing and historical and I love to come back for the real experience next time!
Very interesting, not your every day museum
This place is fascinating! Just WOW!
Been coming since I was a kid, a really unique collection with a lot of history. If you come during the winter, bring a coatn
Great place to see old artifacts.
Beautiful castle!
Very interesting, but since it's a huge concrete castle it's probably best to avoid on the coldest winter or hottest summer days. Very good time and reasonable admission. Tight quarters at times, but you can see everything even with a stroller.
The 8-track collection is a little lacking, nevertheless this place is a local wonder.
Great museum! Racing exhibit was fabulous coupled with the castle's fascinating display of pre-industrial artifacts makes this a thrilling visit. Doylestown is filled of fun stuff! Loved it
Wow! The architecture is only seconded by the fascinating collections. The library is also amazing in the knowledge you can acquire on local and regional history. To truly enjoy it, get yourself a membership so you can visit many times throughout the year.
Wow, wow, wow!! Such a cool place. I ended up here in a rainy day with the kids. They have a cool little thing for the kids to go on kind of a scavenger hunt to find certain animals and collect embossed stamps. I wish I had more (and less distracted!) time to really take in what this museum had to offer. I will definitely be back!
Memorial service for Betty Williams was held at the Mercer Museum in Doyleston. The museum is intriguing...tge room was beautiful.
Rustic historical artifacts stored (hoarded) in a beautifully distressed artistic atmosphere. What could be better?
Very cool so much history in one museum well worth the trip.
Absolutely PHENOMENAL experience.....don't miss the travelling exhibit inside the lobby on WWII and American industry. As for the museum, we most heartily recommend this as an overwhelming experience. The sheer amount of artifacts will blow even the most jaded, educated mind. We recommend doing the museum from floork 7 downward to floor 1. Easy steps for every age. The children's areas are to be valued. Go. See. Doo.
My all time favorite museum. Be prepared to climb stairs and walk for the best views
I enjoyed that it lacks the "polish" of most museums. Some pieces had to be adapted to fit certain spaces, everything is numbered so you can look it up in the catalog. The building is just as fascinating as its contents.
Absolutely a must see. We went to Fonthill castle first, followed by the museum. Both were amazing. I love that you can tour the museum by yourself instead of with a group. It was truly a fascinating experience and I would definitely return. If I had one suggestion it would be to have more Henry Mercer items for sale in the gift shop. There was a mishmash of old timey trinkets ... but I would have loved more Mercer specific items. The young man who greeted us at the desk whom we bought the tickets from was polite and nice. We will be back!
We loved this museum! Walk through slowly to avoid missing things. The museum is absolutely packed with displays and technology of years past. The buildings design in itself calls for a close observation. Also the surrounding town is very inviting for stroll and offers much in the way of food and drink.
Interesting exihibts. Super clean and lovely area around the museum. Well worth the visit.
Cool museum. we went to the making an astronaut exhibit with my 3 and 7 year old. The museum person babysitting the exhibit was a little overzealous and took all the fun out of the exhibit. Although it is labeled a kid friendly exhibit, I think someone that understands kids should be watching the exhibit. It felt like the guy didn’t want us to touch any of his toys.
This is a marvelous place..... a great chapter in American history. So happy I stopped here. Doylestown had fabulous eateries & shops. A perfect day.
Very interesting...a unique building that's a standout in the community, and filled with so many different kinds of tools for doing just about any kind of craft or industry from a century or more ago. A real learning experience as well as a fun way to spend a couple of hours. We started on the 7th floor and worked our way down to the first...only one elevator ride to the top floor and spiraling down to the bottom while viewing tons of cool artifacts. And last, but not least - a special WWII exhibit about PA participation in the war.
The Mercer Museum is unlike any other museum you've seen. It is unique and mind-blowing to see what one man had collected. You will gain an unbelieve visiotheopportunity as what life was like and how tradesman at the turn of the century made all the goods and products we use today before the industrial revolution. Don't miss out on this wonder trip back in time, You'll have an entirely new appreciation for what we have available to us today.
A historical blast. Fun and educational (without preaching) in a concrete castle.
Having lived in the area my whole life I cannot believe that I have never been to this amazing museum. It is a little pricey but absolutely worth the visit. You can spend all day there and still not see everything. Planning on visiting Foothill castle and the tile museum next.
Really nice!
Real objects, first concept of public museum and research.
Amazing, humbling, educational. Harkens back to a more wholesome time.
Great place to see! Amazing!
Very cool place! Must go to check out!
Incredible place to discover Americana. Basically a 'folk' museum, it is organized by trade and time period. Slept over here as a scout which was a cool experience. Try to find the vampire killing kit!!
Unique and unforgettable museum. They're currently incorporating modern work inspired by mid century pieces in with the collection, which is a must see. 7 floors to visit, every one packed with treasures.
There got more photos than awesome things
There’s so much stuff to look at! Overall good experience. Wish there was a scavenger hunt for adults you could do. Something more interactive to get you looking at and exploring the museum more instead of just walking around.
American craftsmen history is well presented and preserved.
Beautiful place
Great deal for the price. Many floors to explore. Very educational.
This museum is amazing. I loved it. Kids loved it too. My pictures do not do it justice, but here are few.
Lots of old tools. Unique but definately not a place to go if you have problems walking. Kids loved running up and down the castle.
Amazing collection! A solid snap shot of turn of the century life! Don't forget to climb to the top to see the gallows! Really interesting stuff in there; a must for any history buff!
This place is something else, really nice. Make sure to bring a jacket if you visit in the winter. It is all made of concrete and it is cold inside! Nevertheless, a great experience.
Learned more than I thought possible ! A wonderful trip into the past and future to be. Wish the NE Pennsylvania coal barons had done even 10% .
Awesome museum! As a tradesman, it's really cool getting to see the tools used in various pre-industrial trades. Loved it!
The place is amazing it you like history. Also the structure itself is all out of concrete very interesting design. My visit lasted two and a half hours.
Fantastic and abundance amounts of historical artifacts! My 5th grader loves it! Better to go when you don’t have little ones so you can actually stop and check everything out!! Wear walking shoes- lots of stairs and balconies! Don’t forget to look on every floor, nook, and cranny!
Great place for some local history. Speed exhibit was fantastic.
So much to see and learn about how people lived in the American past.
A magical place
Excellent content. No ac is a distraction from a longer visit.
Lots of great items and information
One cool American History museum of Manufacture
First class collection of local historical artifacts and other visiting exhibits.
Nice old castle with a lot staff to see there.
Amazing place to visit
Self guided museum for only fifteen dollars. Everything was pretty cool to see and there was a lot more than expected. I loved going through the different levels and it didn’t feel like we traveled up seven floors but we got all the way to the top and wished there was more! They currently have a space exhibit which was super interesting. If you’re bringing kids, they have this interactive learning section where they can learn how things work. Things like how cars drive, planes fly, hovercrafts hover, etc. Definitely also stop by Fonthill castle which is only about a mile away. Super cool to check out from the outside if you don’t want to do the guided inside tour. I think the ticket for that tour is also fifteen dollars but you can save and pay twenty six if you do both places.
Wonderful behind the scenes tour of the museum's new exhibit showcasing Bucks County's role in the training of astronauts for the space program. Great collaboration with the Johnsville Centrifuge and Science Museum.
educational, unique and artsy!
This is such an incredible collection of things. And the story behind it is so interesting
Really unusual museum of random Americana. You will need some time as there are seven floors. I would suggest the combo ticket with the Fonthill museum.
History of the Doylestown area from the Revolution to current events...
Beautiful collection of someone's hoarding antics! Beautiful inside and out.
Super fun!! Intriguing as everything. Will come back
Enjoyable to walk through. Very inviting staff. Has small cafe. Wheelchair accessible. Family friendly. Visual, educational, and audio and video as well as doesn't lead information.
Very interesting
Incredible artifacts
Kinda neat to see the old tools
I was very impressed with the amount of items inside the Mercer museum. It seemed like a crazy amount of research was done to collect all the artifacts! I came away in awe of the craftsmanship and dedication our forefathers put into building this country. This place is great for anyone no matter what age group!
Great collection of old tools and farm equipment, cigar store 'indians'
I cannot give enough stars. I need more than a day to take in all the history here.
Had a really good time. Time flew by oh so quickly
Great place to teach kids history of daily life in the past. Items laid out well. About 2.5 hours to complete.
This place is mind boggling! Between the building and the collection, it is so fascinating and one of a kind. Only drawback is it seems the museum is not climate controlled, so it was chilly in December. Otherwise, it is amazing!
Very interesting. This museum is jam packed with old time American tools and examples of industry before 1900. There are wagons and coopering and tons of other stuff. The whole museum is made of concrete. There is no heat so be ready to bundle up even inside.
If you enjoy the history you must go
Amazing collection. Do the combo and be sure to vist Fonthill. Castle.
Amazing collection of items from long ago. Floor after floor of treasures to look at up close. Enjoyed every minute and appreciated the work that went into building this incredible structure as well.
Great place to spend an afternoon
