Here you will see all the information of people who are using the services of Erie Maritime Museum (Museum) in Pennsylvania area.
At the moment the firm has a score of 4.6 out of 5 and this rating was based on 450 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average score it has is practically the highest, and it's founded on a large number of feddbacks, so we can think that the score is quite faithful. If people have bothered to value when they are happy with the service, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to give feddbacks when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Museum belongs to the category of Museum.
Very good!
Great museum Lots of local history Very informative and educational
A great way to spend an hour or two if you're interested in learning some fascinating facts about Lake Erie and its history. Definitely recommend taking a tour with one of the highly knowledgeable and personable guides! And certainly take the opportunity to climb on board the beautiful Niagra.
Very kind workers. Lots of good information.
Great exhibits and tour guides
Wonderful tour guides and great experience aboard the brig Niagara.
A destination for older Girl Scouts, had to fill out numerous forms, be interviewed, then be accepted. Girls fr all over USA. Visited them on the Brig Niagara, where they were living and working. Great staff working so closely w the girls. Awesome experience to witness the girls respond to the crew so well!
I grew up in Erie so the museum was not that unique to me. The Niagara cruising the Lakes is pretty impresive. I remember when it was on the "hard" on State Street. For the visitor to Erie it's a good stop prior to going to the Peninsula.
This was really cool. We got to take a shipboard tour of the recreated tall ship Niagra. The museum was interesting too.
Excellent museum. Very informative, and fun.
Interesting place! The guide that gave us the tour of the Niagara ship was very knowledgeable.
If you are interested, at all, in history, this place is a must see. Nice exhibits and plenty to see. We caught them putting one of the sails on the ship just like they did in 1812. Fun to watch
Good visit
Awesome info lots to do including crew a 3 masted ship
Lettie g Howard sailboat there for the summer. Got to sail her highly recommend
Erie's Nautical History is a long journey of bizarre twists and turns. This museum is the best representation of that strange history. DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP!
Right on the waterfront, just off the Bayfront Parkway. It is next to the Lettie G Howard and Brig Niagara. Wonderful collection of maritime artifacts.
Lot of good information on the war of 1812
I loved it there it was really fun to learn about WWII withy class we were the portside group. And big thanks to the crew for letting us abored.
Great little muesuem if the niagara is there, a little too small if not. Great knowledgable guides as well.
Really enjoyed this museum - one of my favorites. You enter through the gift shop next to the library entrance. They are a Blue Star museum, meaning free entry for active military & family. Staff were all friendly, and guides were exceptionally knowledgeable and educational. An impressive number of displays for the size of the museum, yet not crowded. I've never learned so much so quickly at any other attraction. Their depth of knowledge is incredible for a museum about just one ship, the U.S. Brig Niagara. Best time of the year to visit is late spring through early fall. Will be back.
Great walk through museum, with guides to explain the key points! The walk about the US Brig Niagara was great too, the guide really explains the history and current use and importance well.
Very nice museum. If you are able to tour the Niagara it is really cool.
Very informational american history must see.
Staff was very informative. Nice well put together museum that included a nice description of the backstory of the items. Learned a lot about local American history that you don't get in school.
The ship was fun to investigate and our guide was delightful in his story telling of the history of the US BRIG NIAGARA. The children liked the tour. The museum staff are very knowledgeable and friendly (not like some cranky staff at other museums we've visited). The gift shop is full of books, "Don't give up the ship!" shirts, and beautiful pictures of sailing ships. The museum was also chock full of history about Lake Erie and the war of 1812, including uniforms, pieces of the original ships, military equipment, a Captain's cabin that the children enjoyed hiding in, etc. There is a working crew on the ship all year. The ship and crew sail all summer until cold weather approaches, and then it docks. Lovely afternoon! So happy we visited!
So beautiful ❤️ fun time.. great crew on ship..
Tall ships festival was awesome! (And who doesn't love the world's largest rubber ducky!)
Nice place to go
This is a very educational museum. There is plenty of information on the war of 1812, the Battle of Lake Erie, tall ships, ropes, cannons, and of course the informative live tour of the Bright Niagara ship. This is a place I will recommend to all my friends visiting Erie.
Very helpful staff and volunteers, got to walk the Niagra and explore years of history!
I went for a field trip for my son. It was very interesting to hear about the history and tour the Flagship.
An outstanding learning experience
Tour guide was fantastic! The entire staff was friendly and knowledgeable!I really recommend this if you have time!
Amazing summer camp my 11 year old loved it.. will be attending again this summer
Great museum. One of the most underrated in Pennsylvania. The Brig Niagara is fascinating when it is in port (call & check before going), but the museum tells even more interesting stories of the Battle of Lake Erie & the USS Wolverine. While in the bayfront, I recommend driving around to check out the lake freighters close up, as well as the bicentennial tower.
Great place to learn about the battle of lake Erie in the war of 1812
Great local museum. Lots of information, the full size rigged mast is great, but my favorite is the replica they shot to show the damage the Brig Niagara took in the Battle of Erie 1812.
Great place to see & hear of the history of the lake.
Interesting museum. Mostly about the battle of Lake Erie.
Nice museum
A really great museum about the history the battle of Lake Erie and maritime transportation on the lake. I look forward to returning again.
Poorly put together! No signs or directions to say where anything was. We had an older woman with us who had to sit out of most of it. Paid extra to go into the area where the duck was because it was not clear to what all was there only to find that the duck wasn't properly filled and nothing more to be seen there, money wasted! We then had to hike all the way around a building to the other side to another unmarked area to then have to take another hike further out.
Very informative museum. We took the Open Lake sail onboard the Letter G. Howard. Awesome cruise...I highly recommend!
A great time seeing the tall ships!
It is very educational place
Interesting history lesson, staff was very friendly, prices were reasonable to get in. Definitely go when the Brig Niagara is in port!
Very nice museum. Wish I had more time. Will go back. Get a lot of history on area and ships of the area ships
If you seek treasure, this is Erie's hidden chest. Erie is steeped in naval history and it comes alive here in this magnificent museum, so very well done (and well placed) and comes complete with a tall ship. Sad to say, even somewhat of a secret to area folks, this is a great take. Just a wonderful place well worth visiting.
Had a wonderful tour of the ship Letter Howard. Great guide. Could have spent more time. Only spent 3 hours but wished I could have spent 2 more. Will return. Worth the visit.
Great history
Very interesting
Good place would only visit when one of the ships are there though
I love history.
Very nice facility, knowledgeable friendly staff.
Wonderful museum and very knowledgable staff, we highly recommend a visit!
Great history, was planning on staying for a hour. End up staying 4
We went here on a rainy day with my 8 & 10 year olds. It was an interesting place to visit! Great history lesson of the area, and specifically the naval battles that took place in and around the War of 1812. Great displays inside too! The display where they show the damage that cannon balls did was great. Kids were interested the whole time. It’s not a huge museum, it will only take you an hour or so, but a fun visit none the less!
This was a really cool museum. You start off with a little video explaining the war of 1812 and how Erie was involved, and then there's a self-guided tour through the museum and a volunteer tour-guided tour of the ship. Our tour guide was fantastic. He really knew his stuff and was really passionate about the history. There were a lot of families with young children there who seemed to enjoy it, and I was with adults who really enjoyed it as well. If you're interested in ships or history, you would probably enjoy this museum as well. Very reasonably priced and a nice way to spend an hour to hour and a half.
Great, fascinating exhibits, but truly wonderful if you arrange to do a day sail on the Niagara. A day on her really teaches you a lot about eighteenth century sailing. One of the best vacation days we've had in a long time.
Great experience for all, top on a day sail . Wajt a day.
I have a pirate of my own haha..Cool ships
Great place to stop. They have tours of the ships and you can also go out on them
Sailing trip was great and the museum is VERY cool :)
The museum is a very nice facility a lot of information about lake Erie war of 1812 etc. The gentleman who shared the movie and gave us a tour of the ship was very knowledgeable and interesting. His boss was a bit of a Time clock Nazi though :-)
Great stop if your in the Erie area. Lots of education and the staff who seemed to mostly be older was absolutely amazing. They took time to answer all your questions and seemed happy to do so. We will definitely be back to take one of their sunset sail tours!
Nice museum, worth a visit if in the area. Exhibits cover the account of the building of Oliver H Perry's ships and battle with Britain during the 1812 war. They have a replica of the frigate Niagara which they provide a guided tour. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. We spent about two hours.
This museum is the ultimate place to go for maritime vintage all artifacts they have so much there I cannot even begin to describe they even have a original cannons felt back in 1890s that was on the ships four Battle of the Lakes in 1812 the history of the museum is breathtaking and informing highly recommend this place where are you Boater's and history Buffs
Great museum! Great coverage and exhibits on the Battle of Lake Erie. The museum also has extensive exhibits on the USS Wolverine, which was assembled locally. As much as I enjoyed the exhibits it was the volunteer guides that made it a unique experience. Their knowledge and enthusiasm was greatly appreciated.
Great history lesson on the great lakes and war of 1812. Also if the Brig Niagara is home you should go on board!
Very nice and informative museum
Worth the ten bucks to get out and learn about our wonderful city!
Wonderful!
A fun way to learn some Lake Erie history.
This was a perfect end to a day sail on the Lettie G. Howard in the Bay!
My husband and I visited on a Saturday morning. There were very few people in the museum and yet the docent on duty was not helpful. We watched an 8 minute movie loop and then were ignored. As we were wandering around on our own we headed over to the big glass windows to LOOK outside at the ship. Well then all of a sudden the docent noticed where we were and started yelling at us and telling us we weren’t allowed to GO out there!!! We had NO intention of going outside on our own. We simply left after we were so rudely treated. NOT worth the price of admission!
Great tour!
Interesting, well worth going to.
The Erie Maritime Museum is amazing! They have so much information and tons of exhibits with artifacts! And the US Brig Niagara is DEFINITELY something to marvel at! It really gives you sense of how travel used to be back then.
I was worried that is would be busy on Saturday. It wasn't to bad with the group being about 10 people. Our guide Brian was extremely knowledgeable. The Niagara was docked and being prepared for the summer, but he made sure we saw everything thing. Felt like we got a more in depth tour of the ship with him. Give yourself time to walk through the museum. I spent 2 and a half hours there, and probably could have spend more time.
Nicely put together museum. with informative and interesting exhibits.
This place is awesome. The staff are great and it has alot of information. Must go!
Excellent facilities and very knowledgeable staff. I will come back with my kids and grandkids!
The guides are excellent at engaging the kids and explaining the mechanics and history in a way the kids enjoy. My kids got to pretend to shoot a cannon, learn to tie rope knots, learn about pullies and cranes, and even toured a historical fishing ship. They learned a lot and had a good time.
Nice to see history rather than just read about it. People are very friendly and knowledgeable.
This is a fun place to visit. Not all that much to the museum and kinda overpriced admission but what makes it worth it is the Brig Niagara. Awesome ship to see and tour. Especially if you can get there when they are "putting it back together" in the spring. I am glad that my daughter got to witness that.
Loved seeing the ships and learning from the guide Dennis. He was very knowledgeable. Lots of items in the museum and a nice little gift shop.
I had fun there. It was a little crowed for me but other than that looking at the ships was a great joy
Great experience, especially seeing the tall ships!
An excellent place to go to some very interesting & intriguing History. The museum can be walked, wheeled or pushed through at your own pace with short video to by seen if you so desire. The museum is run by volunteers who are so educated on the history of everything in the museum and surrounding area and History in general. We are History Nerds and we were enthralled with all the information available by the volunteers if and ONLY if you are interested, they don't force anything on anyone. Our Family LEARNED a tremendous amount and even came back on a 2nd VACATION week to ride the Ship!! Must ride the SHIP, even more education and so Beautiful to see Lake Erie being in a Historical Landmark Old fishing Sail Boat. It was TRULY a once in a lifetime experience, my grandson will tell his grandkids about!
I'm only giving the Maritime Museum four stars because I feel the name is a bit misleading. All other "Maritime Museums" I've been too cover a much broader range of the local Maritime history while this one focuses very specifically on the Brig Niagara, the Battle of Lake Erie and to a lesser extent the USS Lawrence/Wolverine. There's almost no mention of Erie's commercial fishing industry, the Coast Guard station, the many yacht clubs, shipbuilding, nearby shipwrecks or the plethora of other rich and storied topics within our local maritime history. That being said, it is a very fun and interactive museum that covers every aspect of the Niagara and it's place in naval history that concludes in boarding the rebuilt Niagara, which is an amazing experience that I believe everyone in Erie should have at least once.
Loved every moment! So much to see and learn, and you can grab a bite to eat while you wait to sail on any of the ships of the Niagara fleet!
I didn't get to see much as I was invited to sail on the brig Niagara and that was fun, 5 hours cruise on Lake Erie, passengers can help raise sails and adjust rigging
Small, but nicely done. The volunteer guides were enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. I visited with my 16 year old granddaughter, and she really enjoyed the exhibits. We learned much about the war of 1812, and about local maritime history. The Niagara was not in port while we were there, but we did a day sail on the Lettie. Admission to the museum is included in the price of the day sail.
Love seeing the tall ships
My husband loved it.
Loved looking at the old ships!. Beautiful!
Extensive displays of 1813 Battle of Lake Erie, ship facts, and video. Can tour Brig Niagra if in dock.
1st time and were able to do an On Ship tour of the Niagara which was a great bonus
Very interesting and informative. If you are into U.S. history this is a must see exhibit. Real history on display and guides to ship board tours very knowledgeable and brings the 1800's to life.
Wonderful area for the Erie Tall Ships 2019.
Very Informative, Excellent Presentation, Excellent Tour Guide, I Highly recommend this place.
Great tour with lots of information. Our guide was great with the kids on the tour. Museum has a lot of cool artifacts.
So much facinating local history. A real must see!
Awesome history and great exhibits including US Brig Niagara. Wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable staff. HOWEVER, be aware, this is not a true Maritime Museum on Lake Erie history. It is limited to war of 1812 and battle for Lake Erie.
Cool little museum. Great guides. So well done.
Came here as a spur of the moment family day. I enjoyed the history and the tour of the ship. We got there right after it started and they waited for us. It entertained a 13 and 19 year old.
The museum was clean, lots of interesting exhibits, and a few hands on things for the kids. We loved it and will go back for sure!
Very nice place would have liked to seen one of the ships but both were out
Love this place. It's a great history lesson and sheds light on some of the lesser known battles of the War of 1812. While the flagship Niagara is in port, you can go out on it and see it for yourself. When it's not in port, they do have another boat you can go out on. Great way to spend a couple of hours.
Very informational, my 9 year grandson loved it
Very interesting. I enjoy the knowledge
Must visit place to learn about local history, and local contributions to the world.
What a wonderful place. The museum tells the historical maritime story of Erie, PA as well as it's significant role/contribution in & to the War of 1812, the USA's 2nd War for Independence from England. When she is in port Admiral Perry's ship the U.S. Brig Niagra is available for onboard guided tours! (Pictured)
Very informative. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff
It was a beautiful day so my wife and I decided to travel to Erie and see the Maritime Museum that we spotted on a previous trip. We bought our tickets and was directed to a theater to watch and 8 minute video about the part the US Brig Niagara played in the War of 1812 under the command of Commodore Perry. We then moved to the displays outside the theater and it wasn't long before one of the guides rounded up a group of people ready to see the Niagara. Our guide took us outside and gave us some information on the Niagara before we boarded the ship. While on board he told us about the present day replica pointing out interesting facts intermingled with historical facts about the original US Niagara. Following that my wife and I toured the museum looking at the artifacts and displays. It is an amazing when you look back on the history of the United States how many times the right people were in places of leadership that provided us (U. S.) with the leadership needed to make us the greatest nation in the history of the world. One word of caution for those traveling north on I-79 and using Google maps or possibly other GPS services for directions. The Google app has you turn off of the Bayfront Parkway onto State St. Then right onto E. Front St. However E. Front is closed due to construction. Stay on Bayfront and turn left on Holland St. then one block turn left onto E. Front St.
Where else can u see real life sail ships and learn the period of time of the ships
Very interesting place to visit. Got to go out on the Brig Niagara and walk around. A lot of information inside the museum. Well informed staff and volunteers. Very nice gift shop.
Wonderful place with great history and lots to see.
Awesome museum. Excellent storytelling about important US Navy history and the War of 1812 on Lake Erie. Spent about two hours here, but you could see the highlights in about an hour. Very affordable at $10, AAA discount for $8. Worth a stop!
Interesting and educational.
So many things to see and really liked being on the sailing vessel. Good gift shop too.
Overall good experience but some of the tour guides are a little too "want to prove you wrong" and not enough "want to give your family a great experience". One asked my 12 & 13 year old children how many world wars there were and when we all answered 2 he said "Ha! Wrong! There were 7!" Without so much as an explanation.
Not much to see here. Our kids were really bored. There was no actual boat to tour either which is what we really wanted to see. Suggest discounted rates if boat not in harbor.
'Don't Give Up The Ship' We toured this museum, we saw the interesting and well done replicas, we learned about the war of 1812 and much more. This museum is staffed with guides who know and share the history and interesting information...they give of themselves and their knowledge.
Take the time to call ahead and arrange a tour. Jay did a amazing job leading my cub Scout den around the museum. We had a wonderful time, and are looking forward to coming back in the summer for a sail.
Enjoyed the tour and the guides were great folks. Being able to actually board the Brig Niagara was an amazing experience and I am thankful for the opportunity and the guides who took me out in the snow and ice to board the Brig, this is a great experience in the age of Google to be able to see, feel and smell a real experience. I highly recommend this museum
Has a significant amount of boating related information, individual craft history, and the War of 1812 history, so you're bound to find something interesting our a tour of the Brig Niagra. Brian was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and able to answer plenty of auxiliary questions. I would encourage people who are interested in maritime history or war history to investigate; it's a good time and not super long. Bundle up if it's cold out!
This is a fantastic museum located on Lake Erie and jam packed with history. This is a very large and open museum that is attached to the public library. The main exhibit of this museum is the U. S. Brig Niagara. This ship is available to ride daily when the weather is nice for a seperate fee. One of the exciting exhibits was a replica of the side of a ship showing the damage caused by actual different sizes of cannonballs and ammunition. This museum is very clean, well maintained and staffed. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Only one bathroom area located at the main entrance. Lots of parking is available. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
What a cool place to visit!!! All of the volunteers were so knowledgeable. Who knew so much history has happened on our lakes!? One of my favorite parts was learning about what happens when you shoot cannonballs at a ship. Definitely visit to find out. Don't forget to watch ALL of the videos available. Not too long and packed with interesting information. Thank you for saving so much of history to share with the public.
Great insight to history of the Great Lakes region and into the vital role of the Bayfront economically and historically.
Great exhibits. Our Great Lakes Maritime history is so rich.
Awesome place to spend time if you enjoy history.
Love the boats
Overall, a great set of historical exhibits. Video exhibits were either not working or are somewhat dated in appearance. I wouldn't take kids here who aren't very interested in history. I didn't visit on a day where the Brig Niagra was there and would like to go take a sail on that baby.
The Brig Niagara tour was interesting and kid friendly. This museum presents a little known part of American history. The War of 1812 on the Great Lakes.
Place is amazing! If you like boats, this place is for you.
Great information wonderful exhibits.
Great place to visit if you’re interested in Erie history, be sure to check out the ships!
I never knew the history of Erie, was very informative
Was great fun for young children and young at heart!
Well worth the time
Great Museum. Must do the day sail. A one of a kind experience. Very friendly staff.
Great place to spend a few hours. Educational and fun. Visit when the Brig Niagara is docked. Wonderful ship to tour.
Calling all history buffs...The Erie Maritime Museum focuses on the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. The museum offers a tour of the Battleship U.S. Brig Niagara when it is in port. Museum 5/5: The museum offers replicas of battle ships during the War of 1812. Some are life-sized and others are models of ships. As you enter the museum, we were welcomed by staff members providing a history of the museum and information about current exhibits. Guests are encouraged to watch a 10-minute visit explaining the Battle of Lake Erie. All exhibits are labeled with historical significance. The museum provides visuals of weapons, cannons and clothing from the Battle of Lake Erie as well as the water vessels carrying troops in battle. U.S. Brig Niagara Battleship Tours 5/5: Tour the U.S. Brig Niagara Battle ship to see what life was like for our troops in battle on Lake Erie. This ship was used during the turning point in the battle. The guide was very knowledgeable and provided information, interesting information about the battle and significance of the battleship. View areas used for weaponry and sailing the U.S. Brig Niagara. Check out the lower deck which served as the living area of the Brig Niagara. The height of the ceiling is approximately 5-feet tall. The U.S. Brig Niagara takes short sails which guests may partake in throughout the summer. The battleship also travels around Lake Erie for the summer. Check out the museum's website to see when the battleship is in port, taking short or long sailing trips. The admission cost to view the battleship is included in the entrance fee to the museum. Cleanliness 5/5: The museum was clean and inviting. Enter the museum through the gift shop. Traffic: Enter the museum using the Holland Street Exit off of the East Bayfront Parkway. The State Street entrance to the museum is closed due to the construction of a new hotel on the Bayfront. The museum is located in the same building as the public library. Bottom Line: I highly recommend visiting the Erie Maritime Museum; particularly when the U.S. Brig Niagara is in port.
Great place to visit...
It has a ton of information on the War of 1812 and Lake Erie maritime history. The video is great to start. Make sure to ask the staff to check out the boats. Loved it.
Awesome! Part of history I never learned in school.. I humbly recomend you take the time to check it out. Much Love, Sabo
A must go museum and our kids love it!
Nice place to visit
Knowledgeable docents as well as friendly! Especially enjoyed the onboard tour of a sailing ship and the difficulty of sailing as well as living on board explained. The docents comments during historical event video added much to the experience
Amazing displays, history becomes real. Tour guides top notch.
Great place to learn about the maritime history of the Erie area. Lots of interesting exhibits and things to do. There is a small place to eat at this location but it isn't open all the time and doesn't have a great selection. I didn't take off a star because you don't go to a museum to eat. However if you are planning on going, plan to grab a bite to eat before or after. There are lots of places near by.
A good place to learn!
really cool place
Lots of stuff. Good docents
Home port for the USS Niagara A gem on Erie's waterfront .
