Nowadays the business has a score of 4.7 out of 5 and that rating is based on 563 reviews.
As you can read, it has an average rating is practically the best one, and it is based on a high number of opinions, so we can be pretty sure that the valuation is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to leave their review when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to place reviews when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Museum is classified in the category of Natural history museum.
The vast collections in all the Halls (Minerals,Gems, Fossils,Ornithology, Mammals, Anthropology, Architecture, Statuary) deserve repeat visits. Wear comfy shoes. Don't expect to be able to do all the sections in one visit. Know that even "permanent" exhibits will have treasured materials from the extensive archives displayed to fascinate each time you visit.Do bring your camera! Selfies with dinosaurs are a must. The museum is a time traveler's dream from earliest periods through present. Exhibits are so well presented--informative for all ages. There are many hands-on activities including a "dig" to excavate dinosaur bones. You can also watch technicians preparing specimen.Do visit the museum website before the visit to help plan your day. Get the membership and come back again & again! There is so much to see and you won't see it all in one day (or if you do, you'll be exhausted). We are a young family and use our membership for regular trips to the science & natural history museums with the kids (on weekdays when it isn't as crowded) and the art & Warhol make a great date night.
Great place for kids and adults of all ages
Amazing place. So interesting things to witnesses in life.
Growing up close by we came here as children when it was free I haven't been here in years a lot of the exhibits haven't changed but then they don't have to. It's still an interesting place to spend a day even with children at the hands on area for them. The art gallery has some great works and takes awhile to see itself. Even at a quick pace you'll spend about 3 hours minimum. A lot of these exhibits have been here for years but are displayed magnificently. Some of the best Dinosaur displays in the world
Wheelchair Accessible -Ramps through out the building -Elevators throughout building -Automatic (push button) restroom doors (first floor) -Accessible bathroom stalls -Plenty of accessible parking The museum itself seems to be well maintained, I can't say the same for some of their exhibits. Most of the exhibits that had moving parts didn't work properly or they were missing key components to work. Navigating the museum can be confusing, even with the help of a map. The non interactive exhibits were fascinating and information about each exhibit item was provided and accurate. The museum could be done in half a day, but to enjoy everything it has to offer, I suggest devoting a full dau. Take a break in the middle for lunch at the Carnegie Cafe (sit down restaurant) or Fossil Fuels (walk up/grab and go).
Great museum. Make memories with your family. Everything is well done and worth the price.
Absolutely fantastic place! I've been to many museums from the Smithsonian in DC to the Louvre in Paris. This is up there with both of them. The art and natural history collections here are amazing. You can spend hours at a time in here and still find something each time you go back. Highly recommended for anyone!
Nice museum, nicely kept, see there website they do after dark specials, they have great restaurant out front for a nice date expensive fyi, get map of museum before hand because like the rest of Pittsburgh some things are kind of hidden and it can be easy to miss very cool things, good for small kids too
Great T-Rex Display Very nice museum. Great dinosaur bones. Very friendly staff. The cafe was a nice bonus for lunch. The displays and the story boards didn't always match and were a bit confusing. Finding a bathroom on the top floor was a mystery and the guy on staff was clueless. Easy access and ample parking. A dancing fountain would be a nice water feature.
Some of the exhibits are not in working order or are broken. Otherwise, it is a great place for family visits.
I am not that big of a museum fan but hear me out on this one.... I do think some of the things are cool there but as a person who lives in Pittsburgh... this place is in DIRE need of an update! Sure it's supposed to have this old-time feel but the only permanent thing that was the newest was the refurbished Dinosaur exhibit... and that was about 10 years ago. Everything was getting dirty, musty, and just old. It is so outdated they STILL use TVs from the 80's-90's. Sure the staff is nice and the crowd (if there even is a crowd) behavior is good but the lack of something fresh and exciting (and will stay at this museum as time goes on) keeps me from coming here and prevents an actual crowd to come here (every time I go from when I was a kid to now... nobody is even there). The live reptile/lizard exhibit is only temporary (I think) so that doesn't count. Wherever I go, nobody talks about this museum and honestly with what's going on... I agree, it needs an update... really soon! I suggest either going to the Carnegie Science Center (now they're fixing that up) or The Pittsburgh Zoo (my favorite place in the Burgh to go to).
Easily spent a good two hours here and it would've been more if it wasn't for a flight to catch! So many different exhibits - it literally seemed endless, but in a great way. From the prehistoric era to different earth stones to an entire exhibit for birds, you will walk out of this part of the museums with a ton of knowledge. It is perfect for those of any ages. You can roam free on your own among all the floors or even take part in a tour. Even with some areas under construction, it never seemed as if we were being limited. Well worth the money.
It is no doubt one of the most beautiful museums in the whole world. Probably top 3 dinosaur displays in the world and the art is unbelievable. 5 star!
“Just checking out the view.” Amazing all of the stuff they have in there. A bunch of things to do and see to keep your kiddos busy if you have young ones with you. Parking was a breeze and very close to the building.
Nice day trip for the family!
Great museum to visit! Staff was friendly and the ticket prices are worth it. 2 museums are both fun and they are connected!! Natural History Museum is a very good place for kids to run around and learn about different things. Art Museum right now has a great interactive exhibit called "Gardens of Eden" that is also great for kids. Art I would recommend for older children and adults. Recommended for ages 6 and up so they can understand the different displays. Went here and learned a lot. So much to see! Recommend getting a membership if you live in the area, great deal, 4 museums all in one! Loved this place, definite recommend!
Great place! I have teenage sons and they enjoyed the time we spent there. We will be going back because 3 hours wasn’t enough time to see everything. Great day!
One of the best natural history museums in the country. Highly recommended. Amazing dinosaur fossil exhibit.
This is one of my favorite museums in the country! They have a little bit of everything and more than enough to keep you entertained and engaged for hours on end. I definitely recommend the live animal shows if you can get a ticket. Their yearly membership is a great value as well. Whether you're there for the science or the art it is a 10/10 would recommend.
Great place! Been there multiple times. Lots to see. We usually stick with the dinos but explore the entire museum. We spend many, many hours there. Only DOWNSIDE is food is overpriced especially after the amount you pay for admission. This isn't out of the ordinary however compared to other museum food areas. "Food area" staff were very strict (and i feel rude) and didn't allow my then 4 year old to sit and eat his snacks because we weren't paying customers of the food area. Though there was no signage stating this... Save money. Pack your food/lunch. When it's time to eat, head out to your car, eat, and return back in.
I was not aware of the history of Pittsburgh and the many innovators that are from there. You start at the bottom and work your way up. I’m not sure if it’s a temporary exhibit but the Vietnam War exhibit was excellent. We spent an hour in that part alone before moving upstairs. Though I’m not a fan of the sports teams it includes many sports from high school through the pros. The curator put a lot of thought into the presentation. You learn a lot and there are a few activities that the kids loved. As you continue through the museum you learn about Heinz, Mr. Rogers, slavery, the evolution of glass, and transportation. This is a Pittsburgh gem.
Endless rooms filled with all kinds of informative learning experiences. Very clean and well organized! I went on the RADIcal day this year and I would definitely go back again. Even though I spent hours there, I don't feel like I got to take everything in, and will need to return, which I will gladly do.
One of the best collections of dinosaur fossils this side of the Atlantic. A must see for any natural history buff. The guided tours are well worth checking out as well.
Amazing! I will never get tired of going here.
For 20$ you get a lot. There is 3 levels and it feels never ending. If your into getting information about wildlife this is the place!
“Fantastic!” Spent an afternoon at the museum, hardly enough. Phenomenal permanent exhibits. The dinosaur exhibit blew our minds away. My wife and daughter had an opportunity to go to another wing to see an exhibit on women in the arts while the rest of the group hung out at the large American fauna exhibit and they really enjoyed it.
We went to see the Christmas trees but the cost was 19.95 per person. Thats alot of money for just a short one or 2 hour visit. When I was a little girl it was only 7 dollars i guess times have changed.
Most of the large dinosaurs are real fossil material not casts.
My girlfriend used to work at this museum and I used to walk through the museum multiple times a week. I can still go to this museum and have a great time no matter how many times I've been there! You can spend hours looking at all of the different biomes across the globe as well as dinosaurs. If you're a parent, there is also a play area for the kids.
Really interesting perusing here!
Great times are had here
This is a standard natural history museum. Highlights include the collections of dinosaur fossils, egyptian artifacts, gems and minerals, and north american birds (taximdermied). Two of the most famous dinosaur fossils are housed in this museum. First, one of the T-rex fossils on display is the infamous specimen that was originally displayed standing upright (rather than horizontally as it s now) which artists modeled their illustrations on for over half a century. The other infamous specimen is the Apatosaurus with two heads. The Apatosaurus specimen originally was displayed with the wrong head, then when another specimen of the same species was found with the correct head, they changed it. The original incorrect head fossil is on display next to the fossil.
Fun for kids and adults
Definitely one of the best places to experience the history. Great display of dinosaurs!! Loved to take pics here. I am not ROSS
I had not been to this musuem since the 1980s. The staff are friendly and helpful. The dinosaur exhibit and dig activites for kids are amazing. A really enjoyable family experience. I will say, grab a map! This place is a maze!
There is an amazing collection of cool exhibitions. From the gems of Earth, to the dinosaur fossils, to the representations of ecosystems and scenes. I spent three hours there and was unable to visit everything.
Amazing exhibits and very kid-friendly.
American Indian Exhibit is a must see. Beautiful.
This place is awesome! Plan to spend all day there! If you are a student bring your ID as you will get a discount. Some of the info seems a bit outdated but it is worth the fun and the experience. This is a great place to bring kids or to go on a date.
Loved this museum. You have a great combination of exhibits ranging from dinosaurs, mummys, reptiles, architect, and some new ones as well. The museum admission fee is fairly priced. It may take up to 2 hours to see everything. If you have children this is a great spot to take them as there are some interactive exhibits as well.
We went for the first free day of the year, which was surprisingly fun for how packed it was with people visiting from all.over Western Pennsylvania. Parking was slow moving, but once we got inside, the flow of the museum was great for fast-tracking through all of the exhibits. There are so many things to see, all of which are easy to move through quickly, or spend time exploring. PRO TIP: Dress in layers and leave the coats, bags and purses in the car if possible. Definitely a place that you want to travel light with keys, wallet, camera, phone if possible.
Very wonderful place I was blown away but how beautiful is everything in sight everything is amazing more than I expected very huge and organized and tells a story everyone should visit that beautiful place من اروع الاماكن في بتسبرك زورو المتحف الكثير من عضام الديناكورات والحوانات المحنطة مكان رائع للاطفال، والعوائل و البالغين مكان اثري ورائع
Decent museum. Good dinosaur display. Nice dioramas. Ticket prices were expensive. Lots of extra they wanted to add on for 'special' exhibits and shows. Pushy admissions personnel to buy the extras, membership, and make a charitable contribution. $20 for adults. $12 for 3-18. Expensive for what they offer.
Great museum. Nice people. Art, gems, crystalline minerals, and lots of old bones. Nicely curated, excellent facilities including an A+ nursing space and lots of hands on for kids.
Dinosaurs in their natural habitat is an immersive experience, seeing authentic environments around the skeletons, some of which are very significant in paleontological history.
The dinosaur exhibits are breathtaking. A great range of items for toddlers to teens to adults to enjoy and learn about. Parking is easy, although is a few dollars. We have the family membership, very much worth it.
Incredible experience. I really love this museum
My mom and I really enjoyed this Museum! The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. There are three floors to explore and we enjoyed every bit of it. Parking was a little hard because the Museum's parking lot was full, but even with construction we found a place pretty easily.
We enjoyed the gemstones and minerals the most out of all of the exhibits. The pricing (even for a membership) does make it less appealing, especially since the Smithsonian museums are reasonably located for a weekend trip. We went on a free day and it wasn't too packed, so keep your eye on the calendar for free admission days!
The Carnegie Museum of Art and Architecture is an absolutely amazing place. If in Pittsburgh and you can find tthe time, I highly recommend visiting it. Just stunning.
Great musuem! There are a lot of different rooms to explore! The dinosaur exhibit has a lot of full size dinosaur skeletons displayed in categorized replicas of their habitat- they even hang from the ceiling! There is an area where kids can take a dig to help unearth a giant dinosaur bone. In addition to the hands on dinosaur dig: there is a room for kids to explore various things from turtle shells to insects. We went around Christmas and there was a place to write and send letters to Santa. There are great exhibits dedicated to different eras with life size habitat displays and taxidermy. As I stated, I went around Christmas and there were huge beautifully decorated (themed) trees on display. There is so much more to do here, I recommend checking it out for yourself! **As a local, I purchased a family pass for the Carnegie Musuem which includes access to other great musuems in the area such as the Science Center and the Warhol. If you are in the area, you might want to purchase one of these passes even if you are just visiting- it may save you money!
This place has something for everybody. The curators cater to all types of customers. There are installations that rotate, keeping it fresh for long-term members. Also love the activities for kids over the holidays. <3
There is so much to see at this museum!! A lot of walking but there are so many exhibits that you forget about it. Staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions you may have. Nice on site cheap parking. One of the best that I have ever been to.
Had a blast. From minerals to dinosaur bones. Amazing building. Free on Sundays.
Remarkable collection of dinosaurs, gems and minerals, birds, Egyptian artifacts, Polar World, , butterflies and other insects, fossils, American Indians, and more. Excellent docent tours and gift shop. Pittsburgh is very fortunate to have this museum, which is physically attached to the Carnegie Museum of Art.
Absolutely fantastic! A MUST for art lovers visiting Pgh. Great day of fun for children. Museum of natural history, architecture, science, geology, etc. This has it all. Love love love it!
one of my favorite places to take my family. it's always a treat to be there. 5 stars!
Love the dinosaur exhibition
We did an overnight stay here with Boy Scouts! Amazing staff and museum!
I can spend a whole day in the museum; I love going to the Carnegie museums but the history museum is my favorite. It has everything a science and history nerd would want. I go every chance I get.
One of my favorite places in Pittsburgh to relax and visit. It has changed several times over years and they are always adding new exhibits and experiences. The dinosaur exhibit is a little dated, but they have new art exhibits and the gemstone exhibit is always a beautiful experience. I always take my friends here when they visit Pittsburgh.
My 4 year old son loves learning about the dinosaurs. Their Reptile live show is pretty great for $3! The reptiles were lively and interactive. We are members and go often.
We love visiting this museum. So much to see and do. Great for all ages. We typically spend about 3 hours here.
Great place to spend time in Oakland, Pittsburgh. Nice place for children, even my infant boy enjoys it. There’s free day once month. Check their website!
The architecture castings are pretty amazing. Don't miss the extensive collection of gemstones and rocks representing local and many parts of the world. We also enjoyed the dinosaur collection.
Wonderful museum. We really enjoyed the exhibits. Lots of great dinosaur bones and skeletons to look at and enjoy. Definitely a hit with kids. The geology areas were well done. Lots sparkly rocks to look at as well as the history of the surrounding area of Pittsburgh
In 2013 you throw exhibition "road of arabia" stealing the treasures and monuments for the old yemenite kingdom "dadan kingdom" and claimed it in your museum as saudi treasures !this is a history distortion and humanity crime , wow this bond between these two evil countries saudi and usa till the point you would make for your little friends a fabricated history
I loved this museum, not too huge but it has almost everything. Dinosaurs are spectacular. We are impressed by everything we saw. Everyone can find something for themselves. Quite and peaceful. My favorite part was art
Seriously the most beautiful museum I've been to thus far. And one of the most amazing parts- the glass display cases are fingerprint free!
Lots of dioramas. Mainly dinosaurs and plants, not too much else. Even the art was limited. Definitely not a lot for children. Besides that everything was clean and we had no issues. Great half off admissions deal when you go after 3pm on weekdays.
This museum is amazing!! They’ve got everything! The exhibits are so well done! You could spend 2 full days to see everything!! It’s HUGE!
- Location of the meuseum is awesome - Staff is friendly but has less information about the things kept in the muesuem - Dinnosaurs, animals and jewels section is awesome - It's good that there is a discount for students - Overall an average meuseum, nothing great about it!
I think the Museum in itself is wonderful. The exhibits are well put together, beautiful and very educational. We went on a free day which saved us money because if we wouldve paid i think my opinion would be worse. We had a great time even though for our children, ages 3 and 1 I dont think they understand or appreciate it as much as 10 yr olds would. What really made my thoughts change was employees enforcing rules. Now I work in a library I understand there must be rules that we all follow esp when children are involved to maintain everyones safety & enjoyment. But it seemed employees went out of their way to scold you for a backpack on your back or child yet noone could assist you in finding your way around the place. When you have a stroller you must go up a floor to go down a floor and around bc exhibits are in corners etc. We recieved assistance after walkiing aimlessly for 30 mins to leave yet had employees walking toward us out of exhibits to tell a guests with us to get a locker or take drawstring bag off her back. So would I pay? Not for a few yrs unless therr is more toddler oriented themes. Its hard enough keeping my kids off things and a constant nagging of dont touch but look.
Parking was an absolute nightmare and guest services management was disgusting. I am thankful I had visited the museum once before because due to the experience I have had, I will not be going back. Whomever the "guest services manager" deserves to be promptly let go as she has provides NO customer service what so ever and refuses to help individuals in the rudest way possible. Thank you for an absolutely terrible experience.
Favorite museum
This place is amazing. Plan on a few hours so you can take your time. Google is wrong when it says "people usually spend up to 1.5 hours here". Plan on way longer especially if you like to read about the artifacts and take your time. We missed a couple sections because they close at 5, which in my opinion is a little too early. Otherwise, great experience for the price point.
Amazing museum, but needs more than a day to see all of it. We could catch just the dinosaur's, animals and the minerals / gemstones sections. Would definitely go again if time permits.
The only thing I can say: This is the best place to ever exist. I want to live here!!!!
I absolutely loved this museum. I make it a point to go a few times a year. Every time I go it’s always a positive experience. Parking is a breeze, too.
An amazing museum that is now connected to the Art Museum. Took the family and had a great time. One of the best Dinosaur exhibits I have seen.
Love the mineral and dinosaur collections here.
Expansive exhibits, friendly staff, somewhat reasonably admission fee. Admission is $18 per person but allows access to multiple museums. The exhibits were very interesting, with gemstones, dinosaurs, Greek sculptures, Egyptian and American Indian artifacts. The natural history section was a bit sad with all the taxidermy animals. Museum didn’t flow very well, without the map you’d be lost entirely, as I was.
Weekdays the place is empty, the parking garage is almost completely full though. Good luck if you can’t get a spot if the garage is full. It says parking for museum patrons only but it’s full of college student parking. The museum itself is very nice. If you can stand the difficulty in getting there and finding parking.
A world class museum! We are blessed to have the Carnegie in Pittsburgh. There is an abundance to see and do here. At the holidays, the Christmas trees in the Hall of Architecture are a must see as is the immaculately detailed statuary of the nativity in the same room. Currently, there is a special exhibit, “We Are Nature: Living in the Anthropocene,” in the Simmons room on the top floor of the museum. It is among the most thoughtful and thought-provoking exhibits I’ve seen anywhere. If you leave without feeling moved to question the consequences of humanity’s affects in the world, you’re probably not really living. The best part about the Carnegie is how each space is designed to have you interact with the material. You could easily spend weeks (or years as we have with a family membership) getting to truly see and know all the museum has to offer. There are bathrooms throughout, coatcheck, gift stores, and even a very good restaurant within the space. The Carnegie is a Pittsburgh gem!
Awesome place to take the kids. The dinosaurs and mineral exhibits are spectacular. Definitely much different than when I went as a kid 40 years ago! Gift shops have a great selection of souvenirs for kids as well as pricier items. Easy access to parking garage. Be sure to pay for parking before leaving museum at kiosk near exit so you get validation discount. Had lunch as well at Fossil Fuel which is cafeteria style, highly recommend if you have kids.
Nice Dinosaurs and American Indian exhibits. Arrived at 3, so we only paid half rate. Good areas for kids and adults alike.
Have to go to an After Dark event! The Harry Potter one was awesome!
I may be in my 30's but must admit that was the most impressive thing to experience. If I lived there I could see myself going there hundreds of times a year and still learn new things. All exhibits were very well displayed, labeled and don't hesitate to tap those touch screens as an adult. If a question comes to mind looking at a dinosaur, the answer is there no matter how random. I never really thought about museums in the past, nor cared, but the amount of time spent in preserving everything from prehistory to present-day creatures is priceless and I have a totally new view how important these things are (and quite a popular place to be too). If you visit Pittsburgh, you must check this place out (it's way larger than I think any outsider expects it to be)!
A really neat museum featuring a great fossil collection, but also has an impressive reconstruction of some of the world's greatest architecture.
OK, the museum is awesome, really awesome, so my review is going to be nit-picking. #1 The maps were awful and the directions to navigate the building were worse. It took us 20 minutes and asking two people to learn that we had to walk through the gift shop to enter the museum. This is my most serious criticism of the visit. #2 I had not visited since the early 1970's and I really miss the old hall of dinosaurs. It was cool. The new format looks like every other museum #3 The building that houses the museum is as awesome as the museum itself. I don't feel that they respect it the way they should . What an awesome place to put collections, even if it was designed for an entirely different way of presenting history On the positive side (and remember I am not addressing the exhibits which were amazing) #1 The people were amazing. We took two tours with top notch guides and spoke to one of the spotlight personnel. This museum is one class act. #2 The cafeteria was probably the best in a museum that I have experienced. Prices were OK and the food was diverse and excellent.
I've been coming here since I was a small child and I still love it every time I come back.
ADA wheelchair compliant. Parking is very close. Multiple bathrooms and family restrooms through out the museum Some are a bit hidden so ask a guard decent restaurant in museum Price is higher then it needs to be but it does get you access to the Art museum and the Natural history museum You can even access the Carnegie Library with out going outside. Ask a guard passage is hidden
One of the best place to visit family and kid(s).
Goooood
Had a guided tour of the art museum today for my 1st grader. Was a great experience. The tour guide Valerie was very patient with a group of 5 to 7 year olds. Had a wonderful time. She was able to take a very boring part of the museum to children and make it fun and engaging for them.
Great interactive exhibits for kids. The cafe needs twice as many tables and the rest of the building is a maze.
This place is a gem had the opportunity to take a 6 grade class from school on a field trip. The place is huge and full of things that I enjoyed probably more than the kids. Started off with a guide who was very knowledgeable and helpful, went with her for about two hours and then we were on our own. Since we were on a strict schedule we could no way see everything but we did our best. I took many pictures of the sites and kids, to me you have to go early as you can and stay till they close and you still wouldn't see it all in a day. This place makes you want to go back multiple times and enjoy this gem of a place. Been back 3 times and will be back again.
One of my favorite museums. Most of their dinosaur skeletons are REAL, not casts or reproductions. Fabulous collections of classic dioramas, local geology, gems and minerals, and so much more! Can easily spend an entire day here.
Mom, Son and I love going here. Great exibits, and interactive stuff for the kids. My only beef is that the "Native American" section should take up a whole floor. Not just, what seems to be a corner of the third floor..... Also, try to get some real history of this race of human, and the genocide that was committed against the "true natives" of this land, by the "white man" But what do I know. I'm just a regular fella.
Saw Sue in Chicago, now Jane in Pittsburgh! Wonderful adventure!
It was cool. Something to do. It wasnt super exciting! I love museums. But it seems they are trying to fit a lot in to a small place. Do know you cant even wear a small drawstring bag. Its considered a backpack!
Incredible place, surprised by the enormity of this building and you can't possibly take it all in after one visit. If I lived in Pittsburgh I would go frequently.
Beautiful museum with many exhibitions.
Nice museum. Pricey for a family of four unless your on welfare, then it’s basically free.
The museum is very interesting to explore. Decent space to walk around and enjoy sightseeing. Cafes are good stop, clean space and they are busy most of the time. The tickets worth the price :-) would recommend anyone to visit the kids will love this place and kids zone is well organized and thoughtful
Really cool! Great for all ages!
Beautiful Museum! Friendly Staff! Clean & Organized! Lot of natural history and art Great learning experience for kids and adults as well. Members get $5 discount for parking.
Knowledgeable exhibits. So much diversity and so much to see! Loved it!
Didnt become a well-respected, succesful member of soceity living the american dream. Thanks Andrew Carnegie
It is kind of a weird experience: while parts of the museum feel very old (e.g. the corridor displaying avian taxidermy and study skins), other exhibition spaces, such as the discovery zone and the Hall of Botany, are filled with enjoyment and enlightenment. Actually, even the older halls are packed with great information (they could be overwhelming in places, though). Certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great exhibits, our young children loved it and it was entertaining for us adults as well.
The art, the history, the dinosaurs, its all here. What you really have to appreciate is the painstaking detail that went into making it all so interactive and educational. Any museum can gather up some dinosaur bones and put them into a hall for viewing, but this museum made it so engaging that anyone, kid to adult age, would have a hard time saying they didn't enjoy the experience. Do not miss out on the Rocks and Minerals exhibit, you may be thinking.... why spend time there when there are so many more interesting places to visit, its just not true. The colors, the geometric patterns, guaranteed you will not see a rock collection like this ever again and it will impress you. I love the little things, like the easter egg surprise I have in the photo I posted below... thats fun stuff.
I have been coming to the Carnegie since I was a young child. It is the cultural equivalent of comfort food for me. You can have a "quick trip" to the museum, but be sure you know exactly what you want to see because there is so much there that you could spend days (if not weeks) exploring. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly & helpful, and the displays are fabulous. I highly recommend the dinosaurs and the Egyptian exhibits, if you need a short trip.
Nice museum, I love the geology section, but seriously? Charging students of Pittsburgh 12 dollars during the summer when they have the time to visit and could take their time in the museum? Their website needs to be fixed to state that, as it never specifies a time period when it's not free.
All the fossil are authentic so it makes the experience really unique and has a great third floor. Great place for a day trip
The family always enjoy coming here when we visit Pittsburgh. The price isn't bad compared to other museums. There is so much stuff to look at for people of all ages. They have a ton of things for kids to see and play with, like the digging for dinosaur fossils.
Wonderful place to visit. It’s been a long time since my last visit. Give yourself about 3 hours to enjoy the many many exhibits and displays.
We went there around 4pm so the prices would be 50% off as $20 per person are quite pricy. If you really want to enjoy the museum and see both art and natural history you better go there earlier because one hour will surely not suffice to see everything. In the end we had to hurry through the natural history section which was pretty sad. I'd go there again and plan a little more time.
Beautiful museum. Need all day to visit this place.
Place was spectacular, with plenty of exhibits to keep you occupied all day. The botanical hall showcased local fauna, and the dinosaur hall displayed plenty of fossils to explore, including the first known example of a metastatic tumor. There are plenty of taxidermied animals to enjoy as well
Great for young kids. We go there pretty often with our 2 boys ( 3 and 4) and love the dinosaur section, especially the place where they got goggles and tools to dig for dinosaur bones and play Paleonthologues. We miss healthy food at the café so we usually bring our own food.
My enjoyed all my visits to the museum. It has a very relaxing atmosphere. I will visit again when I have the time.
I had not been to the museum since 1965. Everything was excellent, both the art and history museum. Exhibits were fantastic, plan on going back next year. So much to see and do. You will not be disappointed.
This is one of the best museums. It's got a mix of old and new. I'm not talking about the exhibits, I'm talking about how the museum as really old school displays that are about as old as museums go and then they have some really state of the art exhibits. There's really no limit to what you can learn at this facility.
We spend hours wandering around. The fossils are amazing. Such a great experience, best museum we visited in Pittsburgh.
Something new every time. Wonderful museum, almost too much to do in one day.
Spectacular museum with a vast collection of different species and even dinosaurs!! Everything is very well explained, the species displayed are very interesting and well-described, you can spend your whole day in this place!!
We thought this was a fantastic natural history museum. There is a lot to see, but the minerals was our favorite. It just endlessly goes on--in a good way! The dinosaurs were neat, as was the Egyptian exhibit. I would recommend!
I spent most of my day in the gems and minerals exhibit marveling at the beautiful gemstones
Perfect! Had a blast!
Great way to enjoy a day in Pittsburgh. I recommend taking 4-6hrs to explore all the exhibits.
One of my favorite places in Pittsburgh
Want to spend some time and learn things. Museum is the perfect place. Spend hours with the kids looking at everything. Nice Egypt exhibit. The geology display was very nice. Kids loved it. Lots of walking so kids were worn out. Highly recommended.
Love this historic museum. A must see in Pittsburgh. Their We are Nature exhibit was outstanding!
I grew up coming here for all kinds of school trips, and now it's my delight to take my son through the same, or better, exhibits. CMNH does an excellent job of making science fun, engaging, accessible, and always sparks curiosity!
If you are visiting Pittsburgh - definitely worth checking out. There are 4 Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh but the Natural History is one of the best in the country. (The Art Museum is in the same building)
Would have given 5 stars but the parking is extremely expensive
This has become my wife and I's favorite museum we have attended. We are both geologist and we several hours going back and forth through the Hall of Geology. The mineral collection was mind-blowing. Their large Cenozoic vertebrate exhibits were mesmerizing. (We could go on-and-on). I personally really enjoyed their Hall of Birds, all of which were fun to identify. There were happened to bump into the Curator who assisted my wife and I, as I was pushing her in a wheel chair (provided for free by the museum). We cannot wait to return!
One of my favorite museums in the country.
A really historical building that's beautiful inside.
Great museum with great membership pricing.
Love this place. Always a place that makes an impressive impact on learning. The food court on the other hand is a whole other story....
Wonderful museum! Plenty to see - way too much to take in in one day. The lower level dinosaur exhibit was pretty crowded and there were a lot of kids. The architecture hall, as well as the second and third floors were significantly quieter and less crowded. I recommend going on a Saturday - it seemed like there were fewer people the later it was in the day.
Have been going for a few years now. My daughter love dinosaurs so she loves looking at the bones and learning new things about them.
Some of the dioramas are looking ragged, but it was nice
Wow you half to see this.
A great place to spend the day! Kid friendly and nursing mother friendly! The kid play area was a blast, take your time and let the kids explore. The dinosaur bones are so exciting and don't forget to take pictures. Try different angles to make the kids and dinosaurs look bigger. We got there at 11:00 and that was just enough time to walk through half the museum, try the fossil dig for 20 minutes, play in the kids area and eat lunch at the cafe before the live animal encounter show at 1:30. We finished at just before 4:00. $4 for admission for a family 4 with access card, $8 for animal encounter show, $36 for lunch, and $6 for parking. We can't wait to go again.
Highly recommend great for children and all for. Very educational and vast collections of antiquities and artifacts.
Tons of areas to explore. Fun for the entire family.
You could spend all day here!
Wonderful museum! I'll be coming back with family!
This was a really wonderful getaway for our family while we were temporarily transplanted to the area. We spent many a Saturday here and had a great time. There were things of interest for my hubby and I, obviously, but there were activities for our 1 year old son to take part in, too.
Had a wonderful experience with my 9 year old for his birthday. The dinosaurs were a big hit, as well as the current exhibit of live reptiles. Parking was easy on a Sunday morning. Prices at the gift shop were fantastic! Highly recommend for families.
Decent selection. The history portion of the museum is nice. Most of the art is good. We had free passes, so I can't really comment on the prices. $20 seems fair for the amount of content you get to take in. I'd recommend going here at least once in your life just to experience it.
My family and I love the museum, great exhibits and affordable ticket prices.
Love the museum but it's a terrible place to take young children. Security clearly isn't comfortable with children being present and dog you every step.
