Absolutely beautiful museum, very unique - they don't have the usual placards on the wall telling you what's what, but pamphlets explaining it

david b

If you like art, this place is amazing but it's too big to do in 1 day. I learned so much! I had been to the old location once.

Hannah Degn

This museum is awesome!!!! So many amazing impressionist pieces!! I was blown away by the art collection here. Definitely worth a visit. They also have fun night events too that are worth the price of admission. We had a great time visiting this museum.

Cheryl Bishkoff

Absolutely fabulous. Amazing collection in perfect t setting. Friendly helpful staff.

Dhrumil Panchal

Great museum. Loved it

Ryan Lewis

Unique art. Very tasteful. Certainly need to take the exhibit as a whole

Wakame Enzo

I respect their great collections of exquisite art works. But a thing I was bummed here was just LIGHTING.In addition to that great masterpieces are tightly packed in every single small rooms. They aren’t stand out at all.The construction of the building isn’t wheelchair friendly ...However I appreciated helpful and kind staff here.

Chef Stefano

There are so many amazing works of art. Mostly impressionist, but older pieces also. The location is beautiful. It is on the Benjamin Franklin parkway in Philadelphia. Even though it is not very large, this is definitely an important museum. If you visit Philadelphia, don't miss it!

Anna Clark

Would've loved to see everything in it's original facility in Merion. other than that, everything was awesome! everyone that I interacted with was super kind. one of the guards, Natalie, was especially great and we loved interacting with her.

Janice Rhodes

An impressive collection of Impressionist works

Saqenda Dallas

Beautiful! Was only there for a runway show, so didn't get to see the entire building. The outside was extremely interesting and calming. The architecture is amazing and every detail is well thought out. We enjoyed having a quick bite to eat while walking around the building and sitting in the courtyard. Excited to return and see the rest of the beauty and art.

Sheila Sun

Great venue...Wish we had more time exploring the art pieces.

Sara Long

O.m.g. I dont even know where to begin. If you love art this is a must go. This is by far the most amazing collection of works I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. So many works by Picasso, Renior, Matisse, Cezanne, Seraut.... and so many more. There is no way to take it all in, in just a day but it does make for an amazing day. Wow is all I can say about the place. Just wow.

Reiner Martin

World-class collection and a magnificent modern building

Bruce Smith

What an incredible collection! A friend said, "This is the best museum you've never heard of." Absolutely true! Leave at least 2 to 3 hours. Well worth the time!

Phil Hoke

This is one of the best collections of art on the planet. The place is welcoming with a friendly staff. There is a parking lot and street parking is usually available too.

Shae Daniels

Fine art is not my thing. Paintings on 4 walls in 39 different rooms was a bit much for me. I did learn that the European artists bit off the African artists... not surprised. I did capture this photo from the famous painter...what's his name that cut his ear off...???

Michael Laytin

The art collection here can best be described as an embarrassment of riches. The collection is amazing and second to none. The rooms and walls are laid out as Dr. Barnes had originally displayed them. This meana a tremendous quantity of works in close proximity. It's certainly a shock compared to any other museum. The good news is they are able to display the entire collection in a smaller space. Some people, however, may find this overwhelming and detracting to the experience. They have great learning opportunities between hourly tours and sit down short lectures/discussions during the day.

Marissa Arnold

It has some really cool background and history but it's not my type of art. The coolest part was the painting is dead exhibit.

Sophia Stone

The collection is astounding: dozen of paintings by Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Van Gogh, Chirico, Klee and many other great artists. There is a very nice way of getting all the details of a painting through your smartphone and all rooms have a free paper catalog readily available. There are just too many pieces to give them the room they deserve and there is a mixture of styles, periods and artists. Incredibly beautiful the objects displayed next to the paintings. Absolutely not to be missed!

Peter M

Stunning collection of (mostly) impression it paintings presented in a way Dr Barnes liked. This may not be the way museum curators would prefer but it is a refreshing take on art. This collection has few equals in the world of art. The museum itself has an interesting layout and does not feel crowded even though the rooms are relatively small.

Ryan

Excellent museum. Dr. Albert Barnes who this museum is named after led a very interesting life. His ideas are reflected in his choices of the art he collected and even the placement of these pieces. This group of iconic pieces does not come together by accident. His ability to see talent in art that was not commonly thought of in this country as amazing examples of their genre was before his time. The art and grounds here are well mantained and cared for and is worth a visit!

For the love of Animals

fascinating so many Renoir, Picaseo and local artists in unique display. special smartphone program keys you read about all the paintings and email what you saw to yourself. Drawback.. watch the security alarms

Charles Farris

Wonderful. Such an interesting gallery and changed my perspective of impressionism.

Patrick Ryan

Amazing collection! This is a must have experience.

J Downs

Impressive collection of not only painting, but antique furniture and period pieces. Love how the pieces were incorporated with the paintings. Various events offered for the whole family on weekends. My 8 year old even enjoyed and was very interested in the collection.

Jay Smith

Great art museum with some very rare pieces. I preferred the old location over this one, because the crowds were more controlled and you could enjoy the exhibits much better.

katie bonczkowski

Amazing experience! Spent 4 hours here & felt like I was rushing at the end. Truly unique art experience.

Doctor DeMento

One of the most unique assemblages of global Art in the Tri-State area

Lilian L.

Love the Barnes Foundation! They have arts everywhere and it’s all beautiful art. There wasn’t any descriptions written next to the art, so we’ll have to use phones for descriptions.

Michelle Spina

The layout is different then you will find in other galleries. I suggest actually reading the material or going to the classroom to get perspective on the arrangement. The rotating installations are also.... unique

William Cade

On April 13, 2019 I visited the Barnes Foundation to enjoy the art. I rode my bicycle and locked it up by the taxi stand in front of the Barnes Foundation. While I visited the museum a thief, with 3 foot long bolt cutters, cut the cable and stole my bike. This was at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon in plain view near the Barnes foundation valet parking. I reported this to the police and they said there is nothing that they can do unless they witness the crime. It is not worth the visit if you are going to be robbed. Since the police do nothing about this I doubt that they do anything about busting a car window to steal your items or just plain mugging you on the street. Don't go there especially if you are a senior.

Aimee Hernandez

Love it, anytime I go. Staff in the gift shop particularly nice and attentive.

Myszka Theuerle

The greatest collection of Renoirs in the world are here. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The arrangement of the artwork is unique I'm very interesting. Even the architecture of the building is fascinating and beautiful. Whenever I am in Philadelphia I go here.

John Conway

You know you wanna go. What's stopping you Go and enjoy. I'm sure Mr Barnes will forgive you for enjoying his collection under the city of Phila care in spite of his will and trust. He's smiling out there somewhere. He could not of gotten so rich without being screwed over more than once. Death is the great equalizer and the people who move his collection will be dead and all this will be a side note. Go before your dead

Michelle Leichter

Guide was fabulous! Watched Barnes film at the beginning. Loved the RENOIR tour, (w headphones) and do it! You'll be glad you did!

Beatrix Balogh

We got to go for a cool free block party they had where if you registered online you got entrance to the museum for free. We definitely plan to pay to go back - it's worth it! I will be taking my mom and mom-in-law as well. I've never seen so many beautiful and famous works in a single collection. So many beautiful impressionist pieces. The building itself is very beautiful too!

Tiffany Evans

We needed something to do with 6 and my son suggested the museum. What a great place to visit. Lots of beautiful art and staff were very willing to educate you on the art. Need 2 hours at least

Jonathan Richardson

Absolute best art museum you can see everything in in just a matter of hours and still come back over and over again to drool over the incredible collection. Very inspiring.

Daniel Davis

Robust, impressive collection of impressionist and modernist artists. Collection features more Cezanne, Matisse and Renoir pieces than I have seen under one roof with an interesting assortment of pieces by VanGogh Picasso, Manet , Monet and more. Materials are densely concentrated so docent tours can be quite helpful. Cafe was surprisingly high quality as well. Had an enjoyable afternoon there.

Alana Edwards

Looking forward to actually going in, lol. Beautiful, serene place

Donna Kelly

Jonathan Pinkett artist in residence was a really interesting visit. His work is amazing!

Lauren

Such a unique and amazing collection. They also have great programming and events. They have a new app now that makes the galleries really engaging. One of my favorite museums in the city for sure!

AmyG

Loved it! So many wonderful pictures, a must-see

Delores Willis

I've been a member of the Art Institute of Chicago for years and have visited many major museums in the US and Europe. The Barnes has one of the best collections of late 19th century and early 20th century art I've seen. I would go here next time before the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The docents bring the work to life for you. The display is unique based on the requirements of the donor. My only complaint is that much of the work has not been restored to it's original splendor and many of the colors are muted as a result. That said, it's still a wonderful collection worth visiting.

Rich Frey

A Great Place to See Some of the Masters and Further Your Art Knowledge Did a visit at the recommendation of a friend. Loved it! Did a tour with a very knowledgeable docent on the history of Barnes, the Barnes Foundation and the artwirk. Gained a better understanding of the artists on display and saw art by Picasso, Renoir and Batiste. Recommend a visit when you are in Philadelphia.

Newton Davis

Amazing institution that’s well worth the visit. Please make sure to book your tickets well in advance of your visit

Lukas Gataveckas

5$ for students and under 19 years old. Worth visiting big collection of Picasso and Cezanne

Elizabeth Kingsbury

The largest collection of Renoir are housed in this museum. Spectacular! Loved this museum.. a vast array of paintings by the masters to eclectic designs & artists. The restaurant served the most delicious food I have tasted in a long time! Surprising I know!! Highly Recommend.. ❤️

Suzanne Chadwick

Amazing place and man! Great educational lecture as well. Extremely kind and welcoming staff. Gorgeous art! LOVED IT!

Sabina Carchesio

Ever since seeing the Barnes Exhibition a number of years ago, I always wanted to visit the Barnes Foundation. My chance arrived on a planned business trip where I spent the weekend in Philadelphia. I was blown away by the technological advancement this museum applies for visitors to get to know the art on the walls. Even the building is art. You can even email yourself all the artworks you discovered during your visit. Such a cool place with a vast collection of Impressionist art that rarely travels.

Francisco Rivera

First Sunday of the month, great activities, management and staff. Loved the architecture, history and collaborations. Many activities for the whole family and coffee shop with great products, amazing collection of paintings and artifacts. Definitely a most visit museum in Philadelphia.

Yibin Yang

The architecture is very well designed and the detailing and material choices are excellent. However, I really have problem with their skylight design in the main lobby space. The cold skylight and the warm interior really don't go well together, and the same problems are present in many of the exhibition spaces as well.

Brigitte Laforest

The collection at the Barnes is spectacular. It fills my heart with joy every time I go.

Kathy Parrish

Odd little quirky museum with Egyptian art and Decorative art just hanging out with some of thè most impressive impressionist art you will probably see in thè U.S.

Tymoteusz Siwy

Spectacular museum housing a large collection of Impressionist art, and equally interesting rotating exhibitions (usually).

Mark Rogers

Expensive at $25 entry fee but that should not put you off a brilliant and eclectic gallery. The app to tell you about each painting is also great and works really well. I just wish each painting had more information on the website.

AWIMusic

I took my mother out to the, "Painting Is Dead" Photography Exhibition. It was a great experience! The people are very friendly, welcoming, and kind! I'd definitely recommend it!

Samuel Herzig

If you are love art or are looking for a place to visit in Philadelphia, you have to go here. The collection is awesome.

Hillary Glick

What an amazing selection of art! So glad I spotted this place while walking around around the museum district. Unreal collection of Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne and many many more. My only criticism is that they need more space. It sometimes feels like there are too many paintings on each wall. Highly recommend it!

Steven Pandza

Fabulous art. Go ! YOU WILL LOVE THIS PLACE.

Rachael Wright

Please make sure and give this wonderful museum more time than you think you need.

Stacey Berg

The Barnes Foundation has an excellent and varied collection. The are works by major, well known artists as well as lesser known ones. The set up of the rooms and art work allows for an easy flow thru the museum by visitors. The staff are professional, informative and helpful.

Jean Boyle

So many great pieces of art in one place, just awesome

Liz Piantedosi

Wonderful location with an incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff. Great tourist spot if you're in the area and with checking out!

Maya Rahman

I went to the Barnes foundation back when it was in the old house. Since it moved in 2012 I haven’t been since. It is in a gorgeous building with large windows. There is a special exhibit on the first floor and it changed regularly. The main gallery is two floors (a mezzanine in between the floors to look at some sculptures). It is curated with lots of detail. There are guided tours as there are no labels on any of the artwork. In every room there are white card books which talk about the painter and the title. That’s it though there’s not much to learn like other art museums where you can read about pieces. That is something I really missed from this museum. Also it was surprisingly packed for a snowy Sunday in January. The tickets are kinda steep but if you go on the first Sunday of the month it’s free. They make you check your coats and water bottles (the first exhibit they let me in with my water bottle but the second they made me go downstairs and check it in) . Overall fun experience but I don’t know if I would go back. I rather the Philadelphia museum of art or the Rodin museum.

Renee Badeau

It's a nice place I never been there but people told me they been there and they like it I guest it's a okay place the people are nice and friendly if u need anything they will help with whatever u need. Its a okay place

Linda Fowler

Love all the Museums in Philly and this new one is exceptional.

Steven C

Fantastic, unique collection and display design. The most fun that I ever had in a art gallery. My highest rating.

Dmitry Tsygankov

Rules, rules, rules. You pay 25 bucks per adult, and then you learn you have to throw away your water, and then you learn that you can't carry your jacket in such and such way, and you can't wear it in such and such way, and you have to be here, and not there... You'd think it's to keep the art safe, but no, they didn't check our bags. We walked out, and requested a refund on the tickets. One thing we did notice inside the museum itself is that there is zero information on the art. If you're a super-obedient art expert and know what you're looking for, this is for you. Otherwise, no thank you folks, please keep your precious art and your precious rules.

Melissa

Interactive app that allows you to photo and look back over later is great. Staff is very helpful as they walk through and give information on the different galleries. I'd have to return to look at everything.

Bree Grier-Braddy

Lovely museum and have developed and hosted some amazing exhibits as they have grown.

Scott Pearson

Paintings stacked on top of paintings. Such abundance of exquisite art! Definitely book a tour, or at least go to one of the hourly orientations - it will make the visit much richer.

Connie McCarthy

Probably the best collection of impressionist works ever assembled in one building - overwhelming!!! Beautiful building too!

Stacey Murphy

We love this museum! A large amount to see but still an intimate feel. Great gift shop!

Nigel Leong

Be prepared to overpay in a place where you MUST throw away your EMPTY bottles and have specific rules on carrying your bag on one shoulder as opposed to two because you may supposedly bump into pictures that you have no idea are about since there are no explanations. Two stars because at least the entrance is nice and there's air conditioning.

Dylan Roberts

Amazing collection. I never had a chance to see the original, but this version is incredible. The quality and density of the pieces can be overwhelming at times. The unique layout of the work contributes to the experience. Do yourself a favor and check out the barnes.

Alexandrea Kensinger

Great selection of artwork. I love that they have a mobile app that you can use during your tour to get information about the art and then email all of it to yourself so you can remember and review everything you saw on your visit.

CJ Dennis

I (probably like most non-art fans) found this museum from the documentary “The Art of the Steal.” After watching the movie I was upset they moved the art into the city against the wishes of Mr. Barnes. However, after visiting the museum I am sure glad they did. It was absolutely stunning and an amazing experience! It was also not too packed like other popular museums which was very nice. You can take your time to really enjoy the art and sit down just to take it all in. I would HIGHLY recommend people to The Barnes!

Dick van Mersbergen

Fantastic collection, great building and museum.

Charita Lee

Your ability to touch the displays and take pictures

Christina Huynh

If you only have time to see one, I would recommend the Philadelphia Museum of Art over this one. There is a good collection of impressionist peices especially Renoir and Cezanne, some Matisse and Picasso, but be aware it's definitely presented as a private collection. The pieces are jumbled together on walls, some high some low which makes looking at some of them hard, unlike a museum where they are usually presented at eye range for best appreciation, and there are no plaques to provide history or insight to the paintings. Staff is not unfriendly, but again you can tell that it's privately run.

Jim Downey

This is an amazing experience. Seeing billions of dollars worth of art in one place. Many well known artists.

Our Love Is A Trip 4 Real

We always have a great time for First Fridays everything, The music, people, drinks, food all make for a great time, and close to home. The crowd is diverse, all ages, and mature. The museum is gorgeous!

Andrew & Mary Babiak

The Barnes Foundation was pretty amazing. Dr. Barnes amassed a huge collection of art. The facility is beautiful. The art historians on staff are friendly and knowledgeable. In your visit, you will learn about Dr. Barnes' arrangement of the ensembles. Look fot the pyramid arrangements and symmetry on either side of what's in the center. Very interesting.

Bernie Pucker

Outstanding collection and wonderfully installed well reflecting on the mandate of Dr. Barnes.

N P

Best collection of French impressionists in the world.

Cindy Self

I visited the Barnes Foundation 6/14/19. Let me preface my poor rating with... the collection itself, the building- they are beautiful and the ‘ensemble’ presentation was unique. The content and the environment of the foundation are definitely deserving of your time. My concern is the snide way the docents/other employees (I heard a docent call them a VSA??) interact with each other. They need a work retreat together or something, I was so uncomfortable. Workplace hostilities at a level that would be perceptible to your visitors is unprofessional.

Lee Garwig

The Barnes is very interesting in that the paintings are not grouped by genre, but as Barnes himself liked to view them. The groupings arrangement in each room mirrors the shapes of the ornamental iron works mounted on the walls. Quite a delight.

Melanie Drouhard

AMAZING art collection. Next time, I want to study the intentional and unexpected arrangements. Impressionism and Early Modernist are some favorite eras. Exciting times in the art world, and there is lots of it here!

Denis Markell

Small enough to take in in one day, extraordinary collection of CERTAIN impressionists (Cezanne, Matisse) and you'd better REALLY love Renoir. Read about the history of the Barnes collection before you go or watch the documentary "The Collector" on Vimeo to really appreciate the eccentric way in which the artwork is presented. Not a comprehensive collection by any means but rather one man's vision of how to look at art.

Kate Stetler

An amazing way to spend a day (or more) looking at a lovely collection.

Jackie S Yoon

I think Barns Foundation is the best museum in Philadelphia in many ways. Beautiful collections, well arranged displays, classy rooms, and professional and kind docents made perfect harmonies. I enjoyed its storytelling very much, so making a time for storytime with your kids will give an additional good experience. If you like Modigliani like me, you will be happy here. In addition, there are pretty generous sitting areas and chairs everywhere are impressive. Its gift shop is also lovely.

Carolyn White

You have to go and take the tour. Enjoy

Patrick Ortner

Was really nice there and the quite are in the back is just perfect to relax and get some timeout..

KATherine Oh

Was not expecting this museum to be as enjoyable as it was! It’s a bit smaller than most museums, but there is SUCH a bevy of great work. I highly recommend the Barnes Foundation, especially if you’re a lover of impressionist and post-impressionist art. The museum also has a website where you can use your phone to scan a picture and they’ll have all the information as well as an explanation behind the artist and the painting. Be careful, however, as the staff there are pretty vigilant about people keeping the appropriate distance from the art. They’re just doing their job (and it’s not an easy one), but they can be a bit overzealous sometimes. Anyway, a must visit for those going to Philly!

Xavier Chaverri

Incredible place, excellent attention from the staff, and perfect environment to just take time to admire each of the paintings.

David Moskowitz

Without a doubt the Barnes Foundation holds the largest collection of Impressionist art. It's designed to mimic the flow of display when the collection was housed in the Barnes mansion in Lower Merion, right down to the lighting (artificial and natural). Dr Barnes designed the display to primarily focus on visual relationships both other pieces as well as the placement within each "gallery." This is a not to be missed stop if you're visiting Philadelphia or if you live in the area.

Jeff Glenn

If you wN to see wall-to-wall modern art (literally)then this is the place to go. Includes "pop-up " instructors and a calm, modern building in the middle of the city.

Dylan Boudreau

Absolutely amazing collection of art. A must see if you are in Philly

Howie Mcnicol

The Barnes Museum is the home of Dr. Barnes vast art collection. At first I was against moving Dr. Barnes’ collection from his estate however, after visiting the location on the Parkway, I think even he would be very pleased. It is absolutely wonderful! So much so, I decided to join. Having a membership has more than paid for itself...free entrance, discounts, many great events during the year, and classes are a real plus. A must see for any visitor to Philadelphia and a wonderful museum to join for any art lover living in the Philadelphia area!

Sunghwan Kim

Very impressive collection. Really liked it.

Eric Borlaug

Would put this with the MOMA and Tate Modern. Spiritual experience.

Ann Antanavage

An absolutely beautiful space inside and out! The exhibits are so interesting and the books in each room are really informative! The museum also has plenty of space and amenities, coat check, lounges, cafe, coffee bar, restaurant

Youssouf DIALLO

Great place, I had good times with the family

Aurelio Font

This is a fine museum and a great place for both novice and experienced art lovers. The collection is quite large and focuses mainly on the Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Modern art period with well thought out touches of Renaissance, Classic, and medieval art strategically placed to complement the predominantly more modern art from the 19th century and onwards. The early samplings of Monet, Van Gough were touching and there is an surprising number of works by Cezanne, Picasso, Pisarro, El Greco, Goya, Manet, and Seurrat. The bulk of the collection. represents the works of Renoir (a favorite of Albert Barnes). A must for any art lover and a wonderful way to appreciate the arc of the works of some of great painters through the course of their lives.

Jeff Hagadorn

Quite an impressive collection of 19th century European art from 1850-1900. A little over the top on Renoirs but that was Barnes favorite (181 Renoirs in his collection, that's not a misprint). Not a fan of salon style calories but quite interesting the way Barnes put it together.

John Conley

When in Philadelphia, you must visit this museum/educational center. It’s free and you will be treated to one of the premier art collections in America. Learn about Barnes and how he came to collect the works of art on display. It is a fascinating story. Each room is arranged with art and artifacts in a very specific manner - all of which Mr. Barnes did himself - that in itself is another interesting story. A must see place ! Be sure to visit their website and use the phot-capture feature. They will email you each art work you visit along with a short description. First-class website.

Stephen O'Bryan

The photography exhibit was pretty cool. We had visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art which I also super enjoyed but felt like it under represented fine art photography. I was happy to see it at the Barnes.

Eliana Resnick

Fantastic museum for all kinds of art lovers. A little crowded... but the arrangement and breadth of the art work is absolutely breathtaking (a lot of impressionist, post-imp. and modern art) Great stop to make for a day trip in the Philly area!

Rita S

best impressionists collection in the world. knowledgeable docents. outstanding landscaping.

Charles Di Pinto

Unique art museum with an amazing, world-class collection.

George Young

Spectacular art collection, a must see if you are in Philadelphia!

hiker ponc

It has a nice impressionism collection. The live jazz performance was a nice touch.

Zina Taran

I absolutely adore this gem of a museum. It has an amazing collection, hundreds of pieces of mostly impressionist art. Dozens of pictures of my most favorite artist Henri Rousseau, for example. Pictures are put together based on the color and the line and the composition, not historic periods as in other museums, which makes for a different viewing experience. You will see Medieval art pieces next to impressionist works and some interesting ladles hanging on the sides. The new building faithfully recreates the vision of Mr. Barnes, and everything with two exceptions is exactly in the place he planned for it. If you love impressionist art, you simply must visit this museum.

Jack Howser

Very nice artwork, beautiful building. Enjoyed myself completely. Photos from 1840 to 1880 approximately on display

Vladimir Barash

The Whistler and Sargent exhibits are incredible. The building is so beautiful. Definitely worth a visit.

Brian Richardson

Most amazing collection. Perfect for gaining an insight into art and culture.

The Rev. Thomas C. Jackson

An eclectic collection of fine art arrange the ways that make you search for the meaning behind the organization of this museum. You'll see masterpieces by Monet, Renoir, and many other artists. The art is exceptional. The new home for these works of art is superb. And the staff is really helpful. it's located right on museum road, near summer Philadelphia's oldest and best. well worth the trip. Don't miss the cute museum shop downstairs.

Julia Tolbert

The Barnes Foundation is a small museum, but it has an extensive and comprehensive collection! So many Renoirs, as well as other lesser known impressionist artists.

Barbara McGlone

Loved every minute of my visit, it is worth a whole days visit !!!

Daryl Nitz

This place is amazing. Even their bathrooms are artistic. The building is fascinating to walk around. On top of all of this, there is all the amazing art.

Joshua F

It is a very nice museum. They have 130+ Renoir’s and you can notice it when you look around and see him everywhere. I would recommend going to the 10 minute educational course because it tells you a lot about the museum and Dr. Barnes that you would have never even thought about. It is very interesting. Very good museum. Make sure to pre-buy tickets because there can sometimes be a line.

Eydie Shapiro

Extraordinary experience. To be surrounded by so many of the grand masters was amazing. Personally I prefer more intimate museums. Enjoyed the pop up lectures. Definitely enhanced the visit to the Barnes Foundation.

Nicole Castro

As a huge Renoir fan, I loved this place. Friendly staff and an incredible collection.

Susan Hoffman

We enjoyed the special exhibit today. Special thanks to the guard who greeted us inside. He recommended a wheelchair for our elderly visitor. It made a big difference to all of us. Thanks to Zach and Kate at the coat check for their friendly and helpful service.

Sam Jackson

The Barnes foundations in fabolous collection of impressionist art and can only be rivaled by museums in Europe. However there are so many works there it can almost be overwhelming. this is one of those situations where I just had to purchase a book that outline most of the details about the many many works of impressionist. overall I would definitely suggest the pay of the visit if you are an efficient auto of impressionist works.

nelly m

Cool place to hang outside during summer if you won’t want to go inside to the museum.

Pat Rocchi

The Barnes Foundation is an international treasure and we are lucky to have it here in Philadelphia.

Rudi DiPrima

This place is magical. The most incredible art collection arranged in keeping with the collector's vision. Every room was a visual feast and a delight to behold. It is worth a trip to Philadelphia just to see this. The way they manage the flow keeps it from getting too crowded. My wife and I love art museums and this was an experience we'll never forget.

Naomi Wilson

This museum is wonderful! They regularly get new art and exhibits. They have the traditional rules banning large bags or backpacks, so you will have to check them in but if you go with your class or school, you can probably leave those things on the bus. Average time spent there: 1.5 hours.

boofasten

You must go. Bring a well charged smartphone for your own guided tour or pay a bit more for an excellent docent led tour. There are also free talks at least every hour. Get there early so you can spend the whole day

James Loveman

An art museum like no other! The density of artwork arranged on each wall is enough to spend an entire afternoon pondering.

Ellen Powell

Amazing collection with lots of interesting history of how and when he obtained the pieces.

Marlene Ladson

AMAZING ATMOSPHERE, so many BEAUTIFUL pictures, Our tour guide was really amazing as. Can't wait until I come again.

Nicholas Froehlich

Watch 'The Art of the Steal' before you come, but then also revel in how much attention was paid to the cultivation of space. Not a traditional Gallery, but almost more like the world's most ostentatiously valuable Curio Cabinet. You gotta go. There was also an unexpected fantastic exhibition of Video Art that was really fun to revisit. Don't overlook the great collection of pottery they keep downstairs!

Nicole Leposki

It wasn't very friendly to those with disabilities. My mother wanted to go here for so long and finally felt well enough to come. But she is wheelchair bound and also needs to use the bathroom frequently. When we got there we had to wait 20 minutes or so to get in to the exhibit area, then ten minutes after we finally got in she needed to use the bathroom. There is no bathroom in the exhibit area so we had to go out and down to the basement for a bathroom. Then when we finally came back up we were told we would have to wait in the very long line again. My mom was so discouraged and worn out that we had to leave. Very disappointing

Michelle H.

I really enjoyed this gallery more than I thought I would. So many pieces by Matisse, Rousseau, Picasso, Renoir and others. Given the layout of the gallery, I was able to walk through and enjoy the pieces for what they are instead of spending too much time analyzing them. There are corner rooms that get overly crowded and the security guards watch you like a hawk even when it is just you and you are standing behind the lines of protection. Otherwise, very cool place.

What a magnificent museum and a great experience. Everyone was friendly, professional and knowledgeable with the artwork and entire layout. If you follow the rules and have great appreciation for art, you need to come and enjoy this establishment. You will not be disappointed with the friendly staff and surroundings. Also, be a proud sponsor and sign u for the membership. You will enjoy and truly share the experience with so many others.

This gallery made for a good, stimulating date. Lots to discuss about and many observations to make. The exhibit was thoughtfully curated by the late owner and actually enhanced the experience. It was good that the Renoirs were interspersed throughout the gallery. I like the works of Renoir, but that day felt like overkill and I could go another decade without looking at another Renoir impressionist BBW. But their placement certainly helped. Earlier works of Picasso were my highlight. This is an exhibit that requires more than one visit.

One of the best art collections in the world. Great for beginners or art afficionados. Fascinating groupings of art. Very experienced docents. This is an art museum you could visit many times and not take it all in. Beautiful facility, easy parking. The museum has an amazing app at barnesfoc.us that can be used while visiting or not. Instead of reading about the paintings, the app scans the art and tells you about the work and the artist.

One of the most impressive art collections you can see in a single museum. Works by the masters of impressionism are here, because Mr. Barnes was a patron of the arts. for whatever controversy was involved in moving the collection to the parkway in Philadelphia, the end result is a sublime facility so house this treasure.

If you want to see a vast collection of works, particularly paintings, by internationally famous artists, this is a great way to spend a day. Very unusual organization, the history of which is fascinating in and of itself, and very low key.

The Barnes Foundation has an excellent and varied collection. The are works by major, well known artists as well as lesser known ones. The set up of the rooms and art work allows for an easy flow thru the museum by visitors. The staff are professional, informative and helpful.

Amazing architecture design! I spent 2 hours just walking around outside of the building and the lobby to appreciate the beauty of lighting and shadows. The facade of the building utilities various rectangles to create lively pattern. The pond around the building extend the visual height of the architecture and creates the serenity to provide the transitional atmosphere from outside to inside. The heavy entrance door to make us have one more second to feel the change from noisy outside works to the calm reception area.

Wonderful. Great app. Go to the app, point at picture, get information. Unfortunately, didn't work on my phone: (

I love art. I'm a tourist. Philly needs business from tourists. Most tourists, me included, aren't ever gonna pay that much for admission and be happy about it.

This museum is set up in a unique way. I find myself being challenged to look at art in a different way, each time I visit. The building itself is beautiful, too. A must-visit, especially if you like Modigliani or Henri Rousseau.

Andy Alexander

A very eclectic collection of art. Not sure how they decided what art was to go in each room. But it was interesting.

Zachary Ford

Unique art collection, mostly post-impressionist and early modern. Largest Renoir collection in the world.

Huge disappointment on my side. I was really curious about this place and expecting a nice and interesting visit. Such a pity to learn that Barnes was so much into learning to other and that you can’t learn anything from this place. No explanations are made on any single piece of art of this museum. This is a real shame.

Enjoyed this art museum immensely!
