Highly Recommended! My group of ten millennials decided to stop by having some time to kill in Tillamook and having seen surprisingly good reviews here on Google Maps. It did not disappoint. We kept ourselves entertained for over an hour. Note: Unless you are under 18, the museum is actually $4, not free like some other reviews said. The exhibits are aging a bit but covered a lot of interesting ground. The main floor is focused on history of the original Tillamook settlers including funny old photos and a look at what living was like back then; but also includes some local artwork, native history, and military history and artifacts. Don't miss the big old US map from the early 1900s which is packed with other weird reference info from the time such as the crazy time zones that existed before standard time. The basement covers the industrial history of the area. Upstairs is the star attraction--the main courtroom (it's an old courthouse) is packed with a taxidermy collection with every animal you can imagine. A local historian was even dressed up in Victorian era clothes and gave us a lesson in how women dressed back in the era.

Ruby helped me look through historical directories and old Sanborn fire insurance maps for a property that I was researching for a potential buyer. Everyone here was super helpful and they even emailed me a picture of the historic building that resided on the property in the early 1950s. What a great local resource and even more helpful staff. Will definitely come back here if I'm ever researching property in Tillamook!

Unexpectedly stumbled upon this interesting, seemingly hidden museum with a lot of local history displayed in a vintage building. A 1909 Buick car in the basement...interesting that it was a right hand drive. Min. half hour or a lot more to really take it in. Nicely done.

Great example of the "Western local / pioneer / natural history museum" that all true Westerners grew up with. The evolution of these institutions to adopt academic standards and explore local history of indigenous peoples who where here first is a welcome expansion of the colonist/conqueror perspective. Every county in the Western United States has a dark violent history and recognizing this expands our understanding of humanities evolution without accepting it's failings.

My wife and I love this place. Lots of fun and quirky items on display here. From pioneer cookware to minerals to a room full of taxidermy'd animals, this place has a little bit of everything. A must-do if you're visiting Tillamook!

Really quite an amazing Museum. Upstairs is the most extensive and fascinating taxidermy display, hundreds and hundreds of specimen from all over the world. Looking forward to going back and seeing more detail. Very friendly staff

wow wow! I have driven past the Tillamook museum many times, and finally got a chance to stop in. It was very old and spooky, but had loads of surprises. So I find a picture of my Great Grandmother staring at me, along with a load of other photos from other local families. Never even knew she lived in Tillamook! Anyways, there's a large military section, the Senator Mark Hatfield's collection of original President Lincoln memorabilia ( which is huge and amazing), and an extreme animal collection from around the world. Don't miss this!

I was there for the Poetry Slam in the north room. While waiting I browsed some and Ruby, who worked there, was so informative and encouraged me to come back when I had more time. I asked if this was the original courthouse and she told that the first one had burned down and all the records were lost so they vowed to never have that happen again. She took me into the safe that was built to house the records for safe-keeping. It's a huge room with walls a foot thick and a heavy metal door. The whole facility was cool and very interesting. I only saw the first floor, but have already planned another visit with friends.

Pretty interesting, it's like going back in time. Not a stuffy, stiff shirt kind of place at all but a quirky, creaky floor, what is that! kind of place. Each room, and there are lots of them had it's own vibe to it. The natural history room was one of the strangest, loved it!

This is a hidden gem. Stopped in at the Pioneer Museum after attending the Saturday market. The admission price is a bargain. $1 kids and $4 adults. The museum contained three floors of interesting exhibits and artifacts. We liked the taxidermy room, war room, and the several pioneer themed rooms. Especially liked how the exhibits tied into local historical residents and events. Very low key museum, loved it.

Nathan McCorkle

Really nice collection of historic artifacts ranging from old vehicles to preserved/taxidermied animals, including forest fire and timber/logging tools and native American stuff

Evelyn Keener

Great little local museum focused on some original settlers in the area and pioneer life in general. There is also a fantastic natural history section on the top floor focused on the amazing animal preservation of A. Walker. So many great specimens to see, from the area and all around the world!

Jennifer Mckinney

Great museum with lots of displays of history and items from past

Jess Smith

Amazing rural museum, packed full of just about everything. There was a bunch of natural history, some fire camp, some initial settlers, some about the more modern wars, plus some cool old cars (eg, 1909 car that was more buggy than car). It was totally worth the $4 entrance fee.

Lorelie Beckwith
