REVIEWS OF Portland Art Museum IN Oregon

If you like art, you'll like the Art Museum. If you don't like art, go anyway, and you will by the time you leave. There's a great variety of pieces, and it's a good way to find out what kind of art you like. It's fine by yourself, but it's much better if you have somebody to discuss the pieces with- also a great opportunity to look good for a date! Even if you don't consider yourself an "art person", give it a shot on one of the free nights (first Thursday of the month) or on one of the $5 entry days. You might be surprised how much you like it, and how much you learn.

Kassandra T.

Best museum I've visited.

Jeff Crump

Huge and beautiful, will take an entire morning or afternoon to take it all in, 2.5 hours wasn't enough time.

James Dalgarno

A very nice museum. It's big enough to showcase a variety of art, but not so big that you can't see it all in a few hours.

Raina Hathorne

Loved! Can't wait to go again and see the new exhibits.

C. Larson

There was some great art here! Monet water lillies, a Van Gogh, a Rembrandt, a few Renoirs, and a ton of stuff we didn't have time for. There is a large Asian section, a local artist's photography installation, and much more in other buildings! It's a huge place, we are looking forward to seeing what we missed this trip.

Amanda Mcnaughton

So many great things! Kids 17 and under are free!! Which makes it affordable for our family of 5. They always have the most interesting exhibitions. They have a great Native American collection. I was fortunate enough to have one of my photographs selected for the "See Oregon Project".

Devon Roberts

I love me a big art museum and this one fits the bill. Hosting a variety of work, both contemporary and classical, there is something for everyone. I've seen some of my favorite artists here and will often come here for inspiration. Be prepared to walk a bunch and maybe take a nap after. it's exhausting absorbing all that good art.

IamSLYslyamI

I love the portland art museum. they continue to bring in exquisite exhibits. it's a fun pair of buildings to explore

Seth Fowler

Love the free admission once a month! Also has some amazing exhibits

Natalie Cheechov

One of the best ways to spend time in portland is in this exceptional museum. As someone who lives in the city, I often took this space for granted, but no longer! Walking through the gorgeous rooms and walkways with all the stunning art changed my whole week! Definitely worth a visit (or two!)

Gerrie Bodleymace

The Portland Art Museum is a great place to spend several hours. It is actually 2 connected museums, with a museum of contemporary art. I loved the diversity of the exhibits. There are also some work from the great ones like Monet, Van Gough, and Rodin. Some were really educational or moving, like the Holocaust Ghetto photography exhibit. On Fridays they had admission after 5pm.

Ben Brenner

There were a bunch of interesting temporary installations. The more permanent galleries are good as well.

Jocelyn Pou

Beautiful Art exhibits, museum opens up to a beautiful park. Cafe, amazing gift shop and close to public transportation

Marcia Stanfield

My time there sped by, there was so much beauty. The displays are well arranged. I just barely touched all there is to see there.

EdyXplicit

Big museum with lots to see and appreciate! Staff was very friendly and helpful, there's quite a bit of walking to do so prepare to make a day of it and really take your time to check out every exhibit.

Garrett E. Martin

An amazing art museum. I was shocked at how nice it is for being in a medium sized city.

Paul Weber

Excellent local resource with great permanent collections and traveling shows. Expose your kids .. and yourself ... to something new and worthwhile

nickolas burdick

Went on a free Thursday, little busy but I love the accessibility. Wonderful selection. I don't know much about art but they have everything from metal work, oil and canvas, wood, linens from a variety of cultures and even a local nw section

Laurie Durel

I loved! Had not been in a long time

Alyssa Shelton

The Portland Art Museum consistently has fabulous special exhibitions. This weekend I took my parents who were visiting to see the Paris 1900 exhibit and it was fantastic. Totally worth the price!

Susan S. Bradley

Love the fabulous rotating exhibits. Recent Any Warhol and Laika exhibits were superb!

Chris Urdahl

Great place to discover art and to look at various exhibits. I don't like how you have to go upstairs to get downstairs and there is no rhyme or reason to the layout. Now, it could be who was leading us, but it was still odd. Worth a look especially if you like art. Some real lame stuff like a red 2 by 6 and a black cube. Sorry, not art.

Trinity Scott-Hinkle

Better than my local art museum (you dont have those bars keeping you five ft away at all times. We came in between exhibits which mt bf would have loved. But he got to see two monets, yay yay!

Miracle Morris

Art for those who love to feed they're imagination(s). Check oit they're webpage for free nights at the museum

Happy Gardner

Wonderful visit to see so many different works of art. My fave was the gift store. The variety of amazing items is the best for gifts or one of a kind goodies

Ray Weaver

$5 after 5pm on fridays. Hard to beat!!

Mike G

Great place to check out some beautiful paintings and sculptures some live art actually they weren't live they look live

Cyan1dal Gaming

Great place with rotating collections. We arrived just after a bunch of new arrivals, so it was great to be among the first to see some of these new displays. First Thursday of the month is free, every month after 5pm.

Amanda Ray

This was a fun place. Lot's of intriguing art pieces, paintings, one creepy little girl and some cool cerial art. Definitely a bit weird but it's Portland! Also, a nice little gift shop/coffee house built in.

Roberto Alarcon

Nice place with many collections. There are many hidden places

Theo Stewart

Well worth the entrance fee, check out some modern or some more classical American art. You probably won't regret it!

Robert Finta

A nice museum but nothing outstanding. Was a good way to spend a few hours, but not a destination to plan around

Kurt Olsen

Proud landmark does Portlandia credit. Busy on weekends. Guided tours by volunteer docents. This summer 2019, don't miss: the Paris 1900 Exhibition exhibition; the special display of a single masterpiece by Georges de la Tour; and the prints of Japanese actors (join the tour!)

Shaun Cubie

There is so much to see here. It is quite amazing. They have a variety of exhibits. It isn't just filled with pieces predating 1900. They have modern works in here as well. The downside for me is that they have been working on parts of the museum, so you cannot access all of it right now. I was looking forward to viewing the Asian artwork.

Phoenix Black

Awesome art museum. I enjoyed the Paris exhibit.

B ROY

Loved it. Simply Awesome and it is free after 5 PM on 1st thursday of a month.

Yareli Torres Rincon

It was a great showcase definitely for at least a 2-3 hour trip

Marina Sashkov

This is a must if you love and appreciate art! There's 2 buildings and about 6 floors all together. So it's pretty big. We went through it all in about 2 hours. Definitely was a lot of fun and very interesting to see all the different types of art and all the different cultures.

Keenan Darnell

Art! Art is always good and the museum is pretty good with standing displays and rotating exhibits.

Champ Knecht

Nice collection in a beautiful building. Great exhibitions

Ashlynn Prasad

I checked out the museum during their free hours (5-8 pm on the first Thursday of every month) and it was lovely. This was my second time going and quite a bit of the material was the same, which I didn't realize. I like that because if you can only afford to go on the free days, you can just go once a month and still see absolutely everything. The travelling exhibits were really enjoyable too. Staff was super friendly and helpful.

Holly Ramos

I had the absolute best time at the museum. I took a long lunch break and just explored all the exhibits. I felt so inspired and motivated. I need to go back now that the exhibits have rotated. It has a great cafe and just an utterly great way to spend an afternoon.

Melinda Meyer

You could spend days lost here. The collection ranges from pre-contact native art to classic portraiture to modern sculpture and more. The rotating exhibits in particular are always fascinating, beautifully curated, and designed to be accessible and thought provoking even to a person with a casual or new interest in fine arts.

Chrys Chabot

I love taking my daughter here. The five dollar Friday deal makes it an inexpensive way to expose her to a myriad of artists. Great for those rainy Portland days, especially if you wrap up your visit in their Japanese inspired tea shop.

Bryce Barclay

I love looking at art! The works that are hundreds of years old are stunning!

Sean Vile

Free to military which is great. Breathtaking exhibits.

Ian Taber

Been here many times, today for Cars in the Park. Great turn out and amazing cars.

Lindsey

Absolutely breathtaking displays of artwork, in various different forms! I could not believe how expansive this exhibit was and was literally getting lost in the art. To anyone visiting, I would highly recommend setting aside some time and wander in awe. Just a few examples of the rooms/exhibits consist of different forms of art (paintings, sculptures) and the different era's, ranging from well known artists (Monet, as just one), to those unknown. I would not suggest bringing in children, unless of course it is of an interest/absolutely necessary. It is a very quiet and reflective environment. I would definitely return!

Patrick

My wife and I visit the Museum once or twice a year, and our experience today was unfortunately very dismal. The staff was friendly and cordial as usual, but the exhibits, so sad and forlorn, so troubled. One of the main exhibits portrayed graphics that were definitely not suitable for a young child. Until today's visit we had very positive experiences, and I understand the art on display is subject to the donors and one would assume, those in charge of what is to be displayed. Hopefully our next experience will be a more positive one.

MissRindaKay

This being my first visit, it was a unique experience. I really liked that you could check your coats so you didn't have to carry them around the whole time. Only complaint I had was that I had a 3 year old with me and there was one particular female staff member that literally stayed within 10 feet of us the entire trip as if the 3 year old was going to damage something in the museum. Made me incredibly uncomfortable and because of that experience, I dont think I'll be going back. Aside from that one staff member's behavior, the art was neat but I highly don't recommend bringing younger kids to this venue.

Diana Myers

Kurt Sussman

The permanent collection is great, and the shows are all amazing. Cars, movie sets, now a fascinating exhibit of art from Paris around 1900.

Steve Garrison

Great place to visit free on the first Thursday of the month.

1RadiantNature

Love art, great visiting on a rainy day. Good to have map in hand as one can get confused wondering around looking for a specific exhibit. Gift shop is amazing. Some art I could live without, but plenty of absolutely incredible pieces. Good art history adventure

Robert Cronkrite

Some of the art was great. Other art was less great. We went on the free night, so I guess we got our money's worth.

Frank Cheng

Excellent place to visit. Take the advantage for discount tickets if you have a student ID.

Buzz Marron

Great PDX attraction. Free with BofA card 1st weekend of month.

Yang L

It has some special exhibits, very interesting

Lisa Sarmiento

The Paris 1900 Exhibit is fantastic! Really enjoyed the free museum day as well. They offer these about once a month. A great way to see art on budget. Also accessible by max and biking and walking traiIs.

Flynn Hildebrandt

Quite a cool place. They had a lot of cool Chinese art from the olden days.

David Day

I brought my grandmother to the Portland Art Museum, she is in her 90's and has trouble walking. Every single employee at the museum went out of their way to be helpful and courteous to us after lending her a wheelchair. Thanks for the kindness!

Mark McCrary

This was a delightful exhibit, full of history and an excellent depiction of art and culture of Paris at the turn of the last century

diverse and interesting collection in a beautiful part of town. good rotation of new exhibits too

JESSI J WAY

Spending an afternoon here is one of the most enriching things you can experience here in portland.

Jon Turino

Wonderful high class venue for a wedding. I had the honor of being the officiant for a lovely couple there.

Dom DAltilio

Good exhibits be sure to see the native americam exhibit

Doctapixel

The Portland Art Museum is a wonderful place to go to see amazing local and international art. The art ranges from Korea and then goes to an amazing section of European art. They also have some contemporary art. If you like taking photos for social media like Instagram or Facebook, I recommend going to the contemporary section and taking some pictures with some of the two faced art and colored lights. The Museum overall is very clean and the staff is quite friendly.

S&T Tay

Beautiful museum. Lots to see and mostly kid friendly though if you have younger kids you'll have to keep and eye on them to prevent them front touching the exhibits. Friendly and helpful staff who help you find the secret nooks and crannies that some of the exhibits are hidden in. Make sure to catch the Damien Hirsch exhibit which is tucked quite out of the way.

Carliee Witzig

Their exhibits always impress. Lots of places for lunch near by and with your ticket you can go in and out. The had a Hirst exhibit visiting which was amazing.

Sharon Lebeda

The building and exhibits are equally beautiful. The exhibits are an educational journey that can be enjoyed by officiondos and laymen alike.

Liam Rogers

Awesome collection. Kind of expensive at 20 bucks but their collection is impressive.

Andrew Peterson

This place has a lot of diversity in its artwork. I wish there were more descriptions on the pieces about the artists, but overall we had a peaceful and enlightening experience.

Atticus

I would go here every week if I could. I love the art museum. They have a wonderful selection.

Shawna M

I have been here twice, once on $5 Friday and once on the free Thursday. Both times I really enjoyed it, although it was very busy on the free day. They have a wide variety of art, silver works, sculptures, paintings (from the 1300s to modern), native art, and so much more. There are naked exhibits, which freaked out my 7 yr old grandson, so just a warning there. There are many, many set of stairs, but they do have elevators everywhere, so it wasn't a problem getting around with my cane. It was a nice time Both times I went and I would like to go again.

Andrea F

I love the Portland Art Museum. Relaxing, and a rotating artwork. Even the sculptures and art outside is wonderful.

Alice Pennington

Interesting exhibit on Paris. Had a few Monets, impressionist exhibit was hard to find.

David Clark

Excellent exhibits of modern native American and indigenous art. A great variety of art styles, era and media overall in an engaging space.

Christian Oliver

My son and I spent hours here...Realism and Japanese exhibits were astounding! Not sure what is permanent and what is evolving but if you are in Portland it is easy to access and a pleasure to wander. We were there a few days before Christmas so the attendance was light which may have made the experience better...there was time to analyze and experience the art without having to sidestep anyone. We didn't avail ourselves of the guided tours but did notice they were available.

Jake Cummings

Want to see what's up in regional and global art history plus a constant rotating slice of what's new? Highly recommend this spot for getting lost in a day of much needed unwinding and inspiration. There's a cafe next to the gift shop, the baristas here are usually some very chill people. If you're a local, maybe check the library to see if they have museum passes available.

Jill Harwell

The special exhibit on display during our visit was titled “Paris 1900” and was focused on the World’s Fair and the tremendous amount of technology, resources, and artwork that went into its creation. The exhibit was cohesive and a visit to the museum is highly recommended.

Travis D

Fantastic collection from Native American art all the way through contemporary pieces.

Victor Woltemath

We enjoyed our time at the museum. It was clean and mostly fairly cool on a very hot day in Portland. They have a nice selection of very old and very modern art. We really liked the ancient asian exhibit.

christian cameron

Lord this place is amazing! Highly recommend it for lovers of all types of art. There is something for everyone here. Two different buildings with 5 floors each of art. Truly incredible.

Donald Brain

It's a good art museum. The modern art section is extensive. The rest of the museum is good but not amazing. It just isn't very extensive. The gallery setting itself isn't that spectacular either. There was a traveling French 1900 exhibit while I was there. It was good, and did not cost anything additional. I say additional because a regual price ticket is $20. Not prohibitively expensive, but you expect some amazing things when many city museums are free. If you're planning on spending the better part of thr day there, it's worth it and you can experience most of the museum.

Erin Matthews

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and amount of art the Portland Art Museum had when I was there April 2019. I would’ve to spend more than the couple hours I had there as there was still more to see!

Edith Spencer

Marvelous exhibit (all things being equal) with an engaged, fantastic staff.

J Edwards

What's not to love at this beautiful museum! I love the section I saw on Haida and other Pac NW cultures.

Courtney Barquin

Great selection of classic art, modern art, sculpture, historical information, as well as a beautiful exhibit of Paris. My only complaint might be that the floors were extremely noisy and distracting in the special exhibition. The cafe had free coffee refills!

Adam Koziol

A surprising collection of ancient Chinese artifacts, diverse Native American collection, and good wayfinding

Irene Marcus

Enjoyable artwork outside, but $17.00 admission fee kept me from seeing inside. After my review, they answered: "$5 admission every Friday from 5pm-8pm and free admission each first Thursday of the month from 5pm-8pm."

Lorayne Dille

Ease of movemrnt wirhin buildungs, bathrooms on each floor!!

Heather Ricks

A fun museum. We had a good time.

Aman Gudluri

Definitely worth the price. I kinda rushed through the visit cos I was short on time but I recommend setting aside a good chunk of your day for this. The museum is simply huge! The contemporary art section is definitely the highlight of the museum for me. Also, I think they have specific sections of the museum dedicated to rotating cultures/categories, so keep that in mind. All in all, a must visit if you're in Portland!

Timothy Hornsby

Could've spent the entire day here so much to see. The otto exhibit was particularly interesting.

Anju Babu

The maintenance of the museum is amazing. But, the collection is quite disappointing. For a vibrant city like Portland, it's expected that there's more story to talk about. Also, impression and images of paintings could've been included. Themes were all over the place. Progressive thoughts were reduced to very small sections.

David Oppenheimer

The Portland Art Museum has an impressive collection of regional Pacific Northwest artwork as well as Native American works. The special exhibit on display during our visit was titled “Paris 1900” and was focused on the World’s Fair and the tremendous amount of technology, resources, and artwork that went into its creation. The exhibit was cohesive and a visit to the museum is highly recommended. It’s on the smaller side, so one can easily make it through the entire museum in 3-4 hours.

Melanie O'Shea

The curator at the Portland art museum is amazing! Something always new to see!

Mary Pelot

Paris at the turn of the Century...Interesting Exhibit including Art, sculpture, clothing, accessories etc from the time of the World Exposition when the Eiffel Tower was constructed. My one complaint...lack of concern for visually impaired. An audio tour would have been nice or at least enlarge the writing on the info placards.

Ellary Deferrers

If you want to spend an afternoon with iconic artistic masterpieces, there are always the Louvre, the Hermitage, the Met, the National Galleries (London or Washington, D.C.), the Prado, the Kunsthistoriches (Vienna) etc. But if you don't happen to be in one of those cities there are numerous very good regional art museums that have excellent artwork, and this is certainly one of them. The Portland Museum of Art is a very good regional art museum that has pieces from just about every genre, and a lot of art that is well worth seeing. Need examples? OK:

Rob Stoltz

First Thursday free admission at 5 is such a wonderful thing. heartening to see so many people of all ages enjoying fine art.

Julie Mohr

Love the PAM... If you want to get away from it all, drop the kids at school and take yourself up to Portland and gaze at some art. It’s good for the soul, and gives you a little vacation from the troubles of the world and make you realize art is there to help you pause and smell the proverbial roses. There are two beautiful buildings with everything from Andy Warhols and other modern art, special exhibitions, to Monet and Renoirs.

phoenix h

Great museum! There are many exhibitions from many cultures around the world. There was so much, I didn't even finish! If I'm in Portland again, I will definitely return. Plus there is a little cafe. I highly recommend.

Vee Brannan

Plan to be here for a few hours! It's a bit maze-ish inside. I was a bit underwhelmed by some of the more modern exhibits, but others may have a different experience. It's a bit pricey, as well, but it feels worth it when you spend hours wandering around. I really enjoyed the Chinese art and everything on the second floor.

Norma Lilia

Very nice museum, got to check it out for the Paris 1900 exhibit. Made me miss Paris but nonetheless nicely done.

Clark

I think we have a decent art museum, for what it’s worth, but, for a city of this size, I think we should have a much better, more contemporary art museum. Portland Art Museum seems to cater to old, rich, white folks, and it seems like that era should’ve already come to an end. I hope in the future there will be more funding for something a little more relevant and edgy.

Ken C

This must be one of the best, most underrated museums anywhere. The staff is knowledgeable, and the volunteers are nice. The exhibits are so unique to the area, too. It's cool to feel as if you're visiting a New York museum!

Judie Larson

There is so much to see and learn! Amazing art displays.

Barbara Gallardo

Great exhibits. Up close and personal

Angela Cunnington

I came here on a trip a few years ago. Very reasonable admission rates, and I loved the pottery art collection! I'm not sure if that was seasonal or not... I loved the black pottery by Maria Martinez!! Your gift shop rocked, too.

Angel Gonzalez

This place is BIG. First of all. Show up early if you're planning on seeing all the art. There are some art installations that are not in my interest but majority was really interesting to see. From modern weird postings to ancient artifacts. Cool place definitely a great visit

S.A. Fitzell

Staff was unnecessarily rude and unfriendly. Even in the store where one would think they would be nice so people would buy, they started to kick people out 10 minutes before they were closing. They just came short of saying get out of here! I was flabbergasted with the unfriendliness of this museum staff. If you don't mind rude museum staff, the museum is quite interesting.

Satchel Hamilton

A lot of really cool exhibits. The Parisian exhibit was wonderful. Would highly recommend.

Timi Petersen

PDX art museum is the best only 5 $ with a Oregon food stamp card can get two in for 10. You can leave and come back. There is so much to see In there and the staff is welcoming. If you live in the area or just visiting try to go it's worth the time.

Camille Jones

We go often, they always have great exhibits!

Agnes Kiss

Great exhibit on Fin de siecle Paris, charming coffee. Somewhat expwnsive

Kim Singleton

Visiting the Portland Art Museum is always a wonderful experience, and for the most part the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Guard Ted Smith is a huge asset, as well as Tiannah in guest services.

Bill Igoe

Right downtown and some great art. Worthwhile visit.

James Koay

They should b more clear on the 5 after 5pm admission policy. It only works on Friday. Should have been for both Thursday n Friday as for both days they close at 8pm

James Smith

Make sure to give yourself ample time to explore everything this musuem has to offer. From impressionist and Baroque-style paintings to Asian and Native American artwork, the Portland Art Musuem has it all. With a detailed history of almost every piece, one could spend almost an entire day walking around here. If it's your first time, remember to grab a map! The musuem is so big that losing your way is almost inevitable! Make sure to stop by if you have the time!

Ruby Durkee

Love the Portland Art Museum. I believe it is the First Friday of Each Month, FREE Entry until, I believe 5:00 - 8:00 Pm. But call first, just in case my info is wrong. Thank You

Greg Lehman

I love the diversity of art they have.

Mark Spears

They had a special $5 after 5 was totally worth it. I would recommend checking parking prices and taking bus if you can to save.

Heidi Briones

Wow. Just wow. $5 Friday is the best deal in town if you want your mind FREAKING BLOWN. I absolutely loved the exhibits on the 4th floor.

Caroline Mallari

Wanted to spend a rainy day inside and I’m so glad I spent it here! Walked around for hours - there’s so much to see! Loved the Hank Willis Thomas exhibit that was going on. The number of galleries was a pleasant surprise, so be sure you to check all of hidden hallways around the corner. 10/10

Kealoha Drollinger-Maile

Great place for art. Modern & classic. Love it!

Luigi Devoto

Very good place to see Art. Able to see different styles (wont say which ones so you can go) but if you like art, and have an appreciation of the quality and the why, where, the artist will want to paint/draw that specific painting then you should go and appreciate it yourself. There are different levels/floors, also different country type drawings. For military is at no cost( at least that's what the counter lady said) but the price its its reasonable, we park on the street about a block away. Will add some pictures, any questions just ask.

Kristen Steger

This museum is huge! Be prepared to spend all day here! Make sure to grab a map because you will get lost without it - however there are staff members strategically placed to direct you. The Native American art exhibit is my favorite with interesting textiles and wood carvings ranging from old to new. New exhibits are displayed regularly and standing exhibits rotate items. Definitely a worthwhile visit!

Eris Mo

4 stars is for the admission price. I thoroughly enjoyed the museum for about 3 hours, but you may not love paying full price. ($20 in 2019) Be warned the museum is labyrinthine. I recommend grabbing the map and a pen and checking off every place you visit, to ensure that you see all the exhibits. I had walked the entire building, never using an elevator, and was about to leave when I realized one of the (3 total) other exits had displays near it.

王翱

Excellent museum, especially the Asian art. But be aware of the doll at fourth floor, I almost cried out

cindy skrivanek

This museum has wonderful exhibits displayed in a way that allows you to appreciate the art. We went for the Belle Epoche exhibit and really enjoyed the variety of objects and the 6 categories represented. The gift shop has a wonderful, eclectic collection of items from books to jewelry to clothing to purses and cards and so much more. Parking is not that convenient but it is close to transit. I will go back and am considering a membership.

Mark B Borg Jr

My family and I have been traveling back and forth between New York City and Portland for the last decade and a half. What a treat it is..consistently. We love being here and love venturing through Portland and discovering treasures like the Portland Art Museum. The exhibits were magnificent--we'll be back...

Simon

Left me wanting more. Lots of good art, but the building itself is very plain, and it just seems like a large art gallery. The second smaller building is fun, I would recommend going there first.

Ian Goldberg

Nice variety of subjects in a beautiful area of town.

Grace Bleu

A gorgeous museum that I constantly visit on a monthly bases. Extraordinary experience every time!

Ben Campbell

Really beautiful museum and galleries, I'm very glad I was able to come. If you have any interest in art it's worth visiting and seeing some of the pieces and displays. Spend some time admiring the Monets, absolutely incredible.

Jason Miller

Amazing exhibits and very affordable option for people of any age

eric caldwell

Fantastic museum. Without all the crowds of the new York museums with just as many important artworks. Can't wait to go back

Allison Tipp

Food for the soul, I Love it here. Hidden gems around every corner. I recommend ditching the map and getting lost. , In all the different galleries. Modern art is my favorite. Takes my breath away....

Violetta Novikova

Love free Thursday for visiting. Every month they present a new exhibit. My favorite was the Native American composition. Their souvenir store is very impressive and affordable.

Chris Sotraidis

Came here for the first time today. Spent about 5 hours in the museum and saw the bulk of old and contemporary works. Some collections are inevitably more exciting than others. The expressionist works here are worth seeing. The ancient Chinese collection is incredible, as the Kabuki collection. Some of the curation, especially the contemporary stuff on the 4th floor of the contemporary building was surprisingly unenjoyable and lacking. But it's probably in the middle of things?

Dominic C

Interesting artwork. Fun to look at. Nice that it's free for students under 18.

Erin Heinz

I loved stopping by this art museum. I could easily spend several hours here. I loved their Paris 1900 exhibit, as well as their impressionist/modern section. Definitely worth the visit!

Darcynewtonirving ESCarg0067

What a wonderful museum. They change out artists, so that keeps it interesting to visit. It is disabled friendly, so if you are in a wheelchair go and enjoy!

Bruce Gluckman

I went to see a special exhibition Paris 1900, art during La Belle Epoque. Great exhibit. Had a great conversation with the guard about the period.

Matthew McMillan

I mean, it's not the Louvre........ But you should definitely go here.

Sara Darden

Always something beautiful & compelling to see here. I love that kids 18 and under are free! The staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Lauren Daitz

Small and intimate museum with a fantastic collection.

Clifton Whitmer

The special they offered was great. They had a great focus on Oregon art as well

Dino Neill

Inside & out, an excellent art museum! The average time listed is 2 hrs but if you really want to see everything properly it could take an entire half day at least! Their collection includes works from various time periods and material by famous artists such as Monet & Andy Warhol. The museum is unique in that it is comprised of two buildings that you can access via an underground hallway! (Cool, but also inconvenient for leaving as you can only exist through the main building). Friendly & knowledgable staff. There is a small cafe by the gift-shop that offers sandwiches, coffee...etc

Stephanie Weaver

Awe Inspiring. I'm from out of town, and I went to the museum completely but chance, but I'm quite glad I got to go. They've got great pieces, and the museum itself is lovely

Fun visit with the French 1900 exhibit. Not my current taste for art but done very well. The English section was fantastic especially the Magdalen painting.

I am not a big art fan, but this was a very nice museum with a surprisingly large and with extraordinarily diverse collections. It wasn't what I expected from the area and by the looks from the outside of the building which is rather plain for a museum from my other experiences. There was a little bit of everything there. Some classics, lots of modern art, native American cultural art, as well as Asian art. Everything we very well spaced out between 2 buildings that allowed you to really enjoy each art piece on display. I admit, I am not really into modern art, but they did have some interesting stuff even though I just don't get it at all. The Asian art which is my favorite type of art was amazing. They have some incredible items that were really impressive. Although native American art is so so with me, I enjoyed the collections that they had. Defiantly visit this art museum when in town. They do offer a AAA discount if you are member so remember to ask for it if you got your card on you.
