The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for the Holocaust Education is a must see when you visit or if you live here in Oregon. They have an amazing passionate staff and volunteers; the exhibits are wonderful . . . you never leaved untouched and inpired, no matter how many visits you make!

Small but a nice spot to reflect. The current photography exhibit of Ruth Gruber was very educational.

This is a wonderful little museum that focuses not only on the Holocaust but particularly on local Jewish history. There's a downstairs gallery for temporary exhibits. Also downstairs are a coffee shop (closed in summer) and a gift shop containing lots of good books... and RBG memorabilia.

Personally, this is such an exciting merger. When I was on the OHRC board for several years I pushed for our Holocaust Education to have a permanent physical location, not just a website. We finally managed to get space at the old museum location. But this? Jewish History and Holocaust Education blended together in a beautiful, awe-inspiring setting? Thank you to all who made this happen. Mazel tov.

Small museum but the exhibits do a great job of linking the social impacts of discrimination to different minority groups, us humans never learn. Worth the trip.

Great museum depicting the tragic history of the Holocaus. We spent most of our time exploring their exhibit on Vedem, a newspaper created by teenagers while at the Terezin camp. We would highly recommend a visit!

Ann Moses

What a great little museum! The Lodz Ghetto photo exhibit was well put together and offers a different perspective than the concurrent exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. The 2nd floor has cool and engaging permanent exhibits. Nifty gift shop. It's easy to navigate and you can see everything in a little over an hour. I'm glad we joined.

The new location is great. Much better than the former Kearney street location. Visited for a film and discussion. Went to the opening exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed that visit. Have not yet eaten in the cafe. They could use a second bathroom as the wait can be long. Friendly staff. Very nice permanent exhibits and a nice space for rotating shows. The gift shop is well curated. Try it, you'll like it.

William Turner

be sure to take a tissue, it's VERY good

Virginia Smith

Had lunch at Lefty's Cafe. Delicious and affordable.

Wide variety of exhibits related to Oregon Jews. There was an art exhibit with paintings from Mark Rothko. The intolerance exhibit was the best. Eat lunch at Lefty's next door. The only thing that was missing was more explanation what the ceremonial objects are used for.

marian gordon

The art exhibit was great as well as the info dispersed about a horrific time in history.

I came with very high expectations and felt slightly let down at first, when I realized how small the area was, but then as I explored more of the exhibits and read the information included in them, and started seeing the ritual items, etc. I changed my mind and really, really enjoyed it. As a Jew, I became emotional when I saw the genuine yellow star from during the holocaust, and the few exhibits thereafter. It gave me a greater appreciation to be a Jew in the day and age that I am, and what those before me fought for and endured. At the end, or beginning if you go backwards, there’s a very nice cafe that was incredibly enjoyable to go to, the woman who was working was very nice and encouraged us to sit and relax for as long as we needed. Definitely going back to buy some books soon!

Benjamin Klevit

Very important museum and center. We cannot forget what happened. All should visit and support this place.

Michael de Lange

It's very small but worth a visit.

i went for a school trip. the museum itself was okay, but at the end of one of the activities, the worker who was leading us gave her very opinionated and biased political views regarding current topics. i felt it was so unnecessary and uncalled for. it made me uncomfortable and took away from the experience. politics have no place in a jewish and holocaust museum, the museum is meant to bring people together in order to educate and remember, not to divide.

Eileen Lipkin

This museum is expanding its offerings. The permanent exhibit gives a very poignant view of the history of Nazi effect on Jews and on the history if a Jewish community in Portland. But they also bring in interesting art exhibits, e.g., right now they have 3 early Rothko paintings among other works. And historic film events. The museum is small, so exhibits are too. And they have added a small cafe.

A hidden gem. I never knew about this place until a friend took me there. I was blown away be the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the exhibits.

Boaz Frankel

They've got a very cool space that they use in interesting ways for their frequently rotating exhibit. Also, check if they've got a movie playing - they have a beautiful 40 seat theater in the back that makes for a fun viewing experience. Definitely worth a visit!

Very interesting museum, well worth the visit.

Not an everyday hang. It's an occasional visit sort of place but it's good. Makes its point. Should try to engage local Jewish cultural scene in Portland now than just history.
