REVIEWS OF Oregon Film Museum IN Oregon

Melynda Brown

This is a "hands on" interactive museum, you are your own tour guide. Have fun, learn about movie making and of course get into having some Goonies fun!

Brittani Johnson

Just had a blast and got some great pictures of the Goonie Jeep. Great place to visit.

Thor Shreddington

Awesome little museum about filmmaking and films shot around Astoria. Also one of the filming locations used in The Goonies. HEEEEYYYYYU YOOOUUUUU. GUUUUYYYYSSS!!!!

Krissy Brashears

It's cute, but not very big. The gift shop didn't have what we were looking for. Needs more stickers and goodies for the Goonie lovers (other than tees). I was generous giving it a 4 star. But anything that is still "Goonie" in this town should get at least a 4 star. Get there early so you can buy the multi-tickets for all the sights.

Toniann Hildenbrand

Make sure to be ready to *film a scene* when coming here. My girls had a blast making a mini movie.

Tim Moore

It was alright. The price to get in wasn't bad. Its not very big at all.

Randal Meyer

Great place to visit for movie history in the area

David Hill

Nice little film museum! Has items from the goonies and kindergarten cop. You could also film yourself on some little movie sets with a green screen.

Travis Halfman

You really have to be a GOONIES fan to enjoy this museum. It's short on exhibits and long on nostalgia for a mediocre '80s movie. Still, at four bucks, the price was right!

M Q

I got banned for life for jumping through the sunroof of the ORV sitting outside, but other than that it was awesome. Bonus: Deadpool is wearing Chunk's shirt in Deadpool 2 opening scene.

Compton compton

Not much to see unless you are a fan of The Goonies. Price is cheap enough but i would not make this a priority.

Joshua Greene

This was an awesome little place to experience, not a ton here but very fun and beat place to see! Worth the $6!

Silvia Ez

I expect a little more but I have to give it 4 stars because my love to the Goonies movie.

Insolent Jaguar

Great times flashing back to my childhood with the Goonies Museum!

Megan Cogswell

Lots of fun to go and visit. I would love to see a little more added to it, but it is definitely worth visiting.

Tiffany 97103

Small but the free short videos you create are a blast! Just have some time to think about what you want to perform before you start recording!

Virgil Nusbaum

Was super excited when arrived, but being diabetic needed to use the restroom before hand. Was told they didn't have a public restroom and that I would need to cross the street and climb a hill to another building to use theirs. Well u now what, not cool. I'm sure when the staff needs to pee they don't have to cross the street and climb a hill. So we left and took our business elsewhere. Sad seeing how we came from Texas via way of Washington. Not cool. Wouldn't want to support a business that treats potential customers/customers this way. Fyi the Maritime Museum got your money!

Martin Yates

Goonies never say die

SethKylie Thompson

Great place for Super-Goonie lovers. Went with family and created a small little different film. You learn some pretty awesome stuff about Goonies and some other movies!

Adam Waymouth

It was $6 when I went. Pretty cool layout and it was fun making a video like a movie. Worth the $6 spent, but it's a quick tour (can do in 5-30min), so don't let your expectations run wild. The right room has two screens worth reinacting. The upstairs is not open.

Tim Wilson

Good for small children, but not much for adults

Tyler Anderson

The nostalgia of Goonies brought us here. While we couldn’t pass up the chance, do know it’s $6 per person and you literally see the jail cell from Goonies and a few artifacts from different Oregon movies. There’s an attempt to spice it up with some cool filming and editing features, but it’s still limited and a bit crammed. I’d recommend taking a picture outside and a quick peak from the front desk - you see pretty much everything from there. If you’re like us, fork over the $6 and say you went to the Goonies jailhouse. Just hope no one asks for more details

Erika Johensen

We love the place

Chris Sample

Cool place, I didn't realize how many movies were made in Oregon.

Janet Pogue

The only movie that I was familiar with that was filmed in Astoria was "Kindergarten Cop", starring our former Governor. The exhibits here are heavily slanted toward The Goonies; if you're not familiar with it, most of the museum won't mean much to you.

Trigger

A must see if you’re a goonies fan!

Sonn F

Nice place to visit for a movie buff!

Trent Nutter

It was neat to see. I had no real interest of going in.

Klondike Blame

The price was only 6 bucks but it still wasn't worth it. They call themselves a museum but it's mostly just mostly just movie posters with little tid bit clippings of what the film crew shot in the town. I don't recommend it. Even if you're a huge Goonies fan.

Big Bad Brad

Goonies, short-circuit, Kindergarten Cop, the ring, Free Willy

Kaci Bleau

I don't regret going. My kids had fun filming clips of themselves on the fake sets they have. I think $6 per adult is a little much considering you could walk through the whole thing in 10 minutes. It's neat, but it looks more like somebody's hobby than a museum.

Haboob AZ

Pretty small but pretty cool. Has the opening scene of the Goonies. ORV, bullet holes and the jail.

Karina Madonna

The lady who work at the museum was very rude. She refused to sell us tickets because it was 20 minutes till closing time even though it would only take about 10 minutes to see the whole museum. Plus the website posted open to 5pm and when we got there she said it close at 4pm for winter hours and we were in spring. I think it was a lot of bull after driving from southern California.

licia allison

i had a blast here it was every bit worth the trip small but it was great to be in the town they filmed my favorite move from the 80's and to see the town they made their home while filming posted the videos we made to my youtube channel and all my friends who couldn't come with enjoyed it sooo great memories had by all!!! also the staff was great !!! very welcoming to us !!! so shout out to them from youtuber Wit's End !!!!

Shelly Emerson

All I can say is " fantastic "!!

Jeffrey Martin

Have never gone to a museum and asked for my money back; should have here. The name doesn't describe the place, but I gave it a second star because Goonies fans might like it and the chance to make some green screen videos will appeal to some.

Cheryl Bixby

Way too small. Squeeze past people in hallways. About 75% is focused on the Goonies movies. Seriously, get over it. Just some movie props. Then there is the 20% where you can crowd in to film a scene from a movie. The other 5% is a few posters or info on walls about other movies. You're bumping into people trying to get around. It was way too short. Felt like a rip-off for $6. Think it was probably $1/min. Oh, there is the spacious room for the gift shop.

Marcus K.

This is worth about 10 minutes of your time but not $6. They have a few poster up, a tv that runs scenes from Oregon films. You can also see the old jail cells.

Caribou Lite

No defibrillator, so don't have a heart attack. Seriously though, this is a legal battle waiting to happen.

Michael Ritter

Not a whole lot going on here, but neat to learn something, especially if you love 'The Goonies'

Jerod Swinehart

Unique opportunity to continue the Goonies legacy. I wish it was a more legitimate venue. But a great place to explain to your kids that old movies are awesome too

miguel angel lopez

Must go if a Goonie fan, and if you have to time to spend filming your own stories. Not for kids.

ghost troLL

I visited this location this past weekend. They charged us half price ($6) total for myself, my wife, and my two young daughters to visit. Absolutely amazing experience to visit the opening sequence from my favorite movie (The Goonies) we got to stand in the cell and everything. Out front they have a replica jeep driven in the jail escape (complete with bullet holes in the exact spots as the movie, the same type orf gas can, sne saltine crackers! ) it was an awesome. Would definitely recommend anyone to check out

Herbie

Cool spot! Gotta see it, especially if you're a Goonies fan. Cheap to get in and they have interactive filming areas to keep your kids entertained. Self guided. One of the homes used in the movie is just around the corner too.

Mike Thomas

Visit the Olde jail , and see about some of the great movies made in this senic area of north Oregon.

James Parker

People need to lower their expectations and understand this is a small operation with some cool thing. "ORV. Bullet holes."

daineraid

This place is tiny and barely constitutes an actual museum. I am a huge goonies fan though, so it was worth it to me to see. Lots of Goonies stuff in there and thats about it. You can go to the cell that was used in the movie(and it was an actual jail). It also shows a little bit of other movies made in Oregon. I also visited the Walsh house/Datas house(although there are signs saying they will call police on you). It was worth getting all the pictures I did of these places in Astoria. The Flavel house(also in the movie) is directly across the street from the Jail.

Zach Miller

If you're a fan of "The Goonies", this is the place to go. Nice staff and a great deal if you get the bundled flavel house and heritage museum tickets.

Scott Monaghan

Has some cool goonies memorabilia and items but not much else. Very small and crowded, but if you traveled to Astoria you may as well check it out.

Brendan C

This "museum" is little more than a fan-made homage to the Goonies. Little of value to see and absolutely not worth the $6 entrance. Set in the old jail house, there is more information in wall posters on the history of the jail than there is on the Goonies film. The 'create and edit your film' feature might be fun for young ones, but even with that option it is such a tiny space it takes no more than a couple minutes to review. You'll find much better places to see in Astoria for the same entrance fee.

Anne Danen

A cute little museum that showcases the films set in Oregon. It's located in Astoria's original jail, which makes it especially fun for the kids.

James Roberts

Historical as well as the ability to have a small movie made of the Goonies, Twilight, Kindergarten Cop, the Shining and you and one other are the star. It is free with admission.

Nathan Sinclair

Small, cramped building. The museum has no focus or direction. It feels like walking through the garage of a movie director who, having finished his last movie thirty years ago, is now simply a drunken hoarder.

lucas immenschuh

To small and crowded! But it was fun to see.

robert snodgrass

Really small but cool stop for goonies fans

Alannah Brock

I am a MASSIVE goonies fan, and I LOVED this. Yes it's small but it's good fun! $5 - $6 entry fee and plenty of goodies at the gift shop! Definitely worth having at look!

Robert Cronkrite

If you're into the interactiveness of making a film and viewing it, it might be worth it. Otherwise, the place is pretty small. If there are more than a few people there, it gets pretty crowded, hot, and stuffy.

Jonathan Tennis

For a Goonies fan, it is awesome. For fans of other movies made in Oregon, they don't have a lot. I'm a Goonies fan so I loved it.

Tonya Young

So fun! We made a movie! Small but kids loved it.

Amy Wachsmuth

A must see for all Goonies Fans. However, the admission is a little pricey and the museum in all is a little small. Very cool place, with some interesting exhibits that give you a chance to experiment filming movie scenes from some Oregon movies.

Amy Morley

Very small. Description sounded much better than what it was. Literally 3 "cells" with memorabilia. One room had props where you can record clips. Says you can email clips to yourself, we did but they never came to either of the emails I gave. I would highly recommend the Columbia River Maritime Museum instead.

Chris Smith

Too small. If you love the Goonies. I mean literally live and breathe it . Go

chris vasquez

Great place to visit. If your a goonies fan.

T Hunter

Very cool, got to see the Goonies jeep.

Keith M

Good for kids, not an interesting place for adults. Very small, very ‘Goonies’ based.

Josh Daniels

It was okay. I think it's over priced for how little there is to do. It's a very small building. If you love the goonies it's worth it though.

Douglas Cole

Did I miss something? Because what we saw was pretty lame. If you're a Goonies fan, it might be worth the trip. But if you're interested in learning more about films made in Oregon, save yourself a trip and just search the net. The museum offers no tangible experience over the web or a good book. Fortunately, we also went up there (we live in the Portland area) to visit the Columbia Maritime Museum. Had we gone up for just this, we'd have been sorely disappointed.

Heather Knight

If you are a film buff and interested in learning about movies filmed in Oregon, this is the spot to go. It's focus is on the Goonies, but there are some displays that talk about other movies filmed in the state. I recommend getting the three museum pass for $12, it gets you into the Oregon Film Museum, the Flavel House next door and the Heritage Museum down the street a few blocks. 100% worth it. You'll come away knowing more about the area.

Kevin McGuire

It has more movies to learn about that where filmed in Astoria and surrounding Oregon then I was familiar with, as well as props and a gift shop for all Goonie lovers!

Justine Lecerf

A complete rip off. Go to the flavel house for the same house and get 10 times the experience.

Payden Thornton

It's a blast! It's small but it brings back so many memories!!

Nanette Houghton

It's $6 per person. Two small hallways. Like 5 min. Unless you do the film , kids would like. Wasn't a fan of the place :(

Piper VanOrd

Fun! Awesome how tiny the building actually is compared to what my eyes saw watching Goonies as a kid!

Rebecca Nara

Small but really cool. Great for families

Randy Parsons

Cute little museum, Especially for any Goonies fan. Its not an extremely large place and I have seen that some people complain about the entry fee but well worth every penny to step inside some great film History!

Dan H

This town makes a fair amount of money from fans of The Goonies during the annual "Goonies Day" and this museum really only exists as a way of extracting money from Goonies fans who visit during the rest of the year.

Kevin Chung

Quite a small museum, but it will satisfy your desires to reconnect with the Goonies movie.

Mark Farina

Cool to see for a quick stop along with many other things in this cool little town.

Daniel Rufty

Expensive. $6 adult $2 for kids. Not worth it.

Donovan Latherow

Easily one of my favorite museums. This is a must see for lovers of Americana, 80s culture, and filmmaking in general.

Connor Tkachuk

Came to Astoria specifically to come check out the Goonies stuff. The Jeep out front is pretty cool, as are many of the props inside the jail. But $6 is a little steep considering the amount of stuff in there. You can re-enact some of the scenes of some Oregon movies but we didn't bother, it's a little crowded. If you're going for anything other than the Goonies, I wouldn't bother. The little gift shop isn't bad but it's still pretty pricey.

Brian Rohan

Definitely a must visit when in Astoria. Quick tour and lots of fun things to do and see.

Evan Davis

Small museum with a few things from movies filmed in Astoria. You can see the whole thing in less than 15 minutes. If I had only purchased a ticket for this attraction I would have been disappointed, but they have a package where you can see the Film Museum, Flavel House (accross the street), and the Heritage Museum. Go for the full package and you'll enjoy the museum more.

Megan V

We had a great time exploring this film museum and making a little film with a film scene set they had set up. We love the movie “the goonies” so seeing all kinds of props they used on the movie was pretty neat. We took a picture in front of the Goonie Truck, pictures of the mansion across the street, tried to guess movie quotes written on pieces of paper taped onto the ceiling and walls, and did some other things. Some of their film sets weren’t working so we got in for $12- kids are free.

Yves Engetschwiler

Really small museum but so cool! Especially if you loved the Goonies! Love the ambiance and the place. Very nice welcome and a bit of explanation of the old prison. You can spend hours in there. You can make some videos if you have the time. Great experience!

James Amato

It's the jail from Goonies but not much else to exciting to me. Worth a look.

Nick

Not a ton to do, but was fun for 30-45 min. Interesting stuff

nana arionus

Very fun for family to experience how movies are made and act out skits. Enjoyed all the Goonie and other screen actors old pictures and history. Hope to return again soon

Michael hernandez

Best thing about it is the gift shop, lots of Goonies merch. The girl working there had no idea about any of the movies displayed. Cool little concept though. We had fun! Went to the location of the Walsh’s house from the movie but weren’t allowed to walk up and take a pic.

Joshua Peditto

You goonie! this is a cool little spot to check out $6 for admission $12 for three museums total I didn't have enough time to check out the other two museums but this was worth it. If your fan of the movie or other movies that have been recorded in Oregon I would highly encourage you check this out. I didn't realize how many movies were actually recorded in this state but it's an impressive amount. What's really interesting is that somebody created this two degrees of Kevin Bacon game... Well this museum has a billboard that explains 10 degrees of Corey Feldman. There are also rooms that have sets with videos you can actually reenact certain scenes from select movies. I didn't participate in that but I saw other people, seems like they enjoyed it. Also they have a little shop that sells souvenirs, as far as tourist prices go it's reasonable and worth swinging by just to check out. I wouldn't encourage groups of 4+ to go at one time, it's pretty tight.

Alex Jacobson

The front desk lady was super helpful and very welcoming, especially as we were those people who came in the last half hour of the day.

Sue Donym

its not -reeeaally- a film museum; it's a goonies museum. i guess they cant really call it that, though its not really anything special- and its very poorly laid out- but its definitely special, if you get what i mean. unique! not really worth a second visit though imo

Kenneth Lane

Nice lady working at the front.

Ken G

It's tiny but really cool. Be sure to hang yourself in Jake Fratelli's cell. Decent gift shop prices.

Carl Avery

Maybe a bit biased, because I am a Goonies nerd, but so fun, it is small but a good time!!

Eva Marie Schiedler

Not really worth the price, but it's not bad. It's a cool little experience!

Benjamin W. Stratton

Some cool stuff but not worth the money for essentially two small rooms of exhibits on one floor.

Seth T

Nice goonies tribute. But not much information. If you are looking for a museum you might pass this up. If you are a goonies fan it might be good for a picture or two.

Zachary Smith

Cute little place. Go down the little hall to the back and there's some historic info about the jail/town. Neat place!!

Chris Brown

Expected to see a lot more actual movie props. There is a bunch of old Goonies products that you can sort of see through one windowed jail cell, but other than that, there are less than 10 other props from movies.

Toby Hatcher

It's an okay place to visit. Not what was expected but ok. Don't rush to go. Admission is $8

Scott Paul

It’s small but if you spend an hour there and make some movies it’s really fun for kids. The goonies car out front and tributes inside are great

Lelah Howard

If you are fanatic about the Goonies then you might like this. Otherwise, mehh.

Gus Garcia

Goonies never say die! It's worth the $6 to mess around for 30-45 minutes. NOT HC Accessible.

Hila Granot

Great stop during our oregon trip

Janet Bierer

What they had was fun, but crammed in. They should be using more of the building.

Joshua Bacher

If you're looking for a shrine to the Goonies, this is it. It's more of a one-time stop, because the movie was released in 1985 and there is no real need for updates. Other (partially filmed in Oregon) movies are alluded to here, but it's mainly for just the hard-core Goonies fans. Spend the $6 and take an hour here. I am just opposed to it being called "Oregon Film Museum" when it should be more truthfully "Oregon Goonies Museum"

Patrick Gilliland

This was a fun little stop... But... $6? Way too expensive for what you get. There's not that much to see in this small museum.

Tony Heiman

Awesome wow Oregon Film Museums County Jail in Astoria “Goonies”

Kim H

There's not a lot to it, but it's fun for a quick afternoon trip. Especially if you're a fan of the Goonies!

David Cain

A must-see destination in Astoria for all fans of the Goonies! This is a small museum and the film production activity is primarily for children, but anyone will enjoy a quick visit here.

Jeff Underwood

Fun little museum. A must for Goonies fans, but there is also information about the building when it was the local jail and other Oregon movies.

Preston Williams

Small but awesome

Joe Lunchbox

At best it was ok. There wasn't a whole lot to see, but if you're a film geek you might enjoy it.

Maree Dunlop

Smells like a poorly serviced public toilet, tenuoius link to films and not worth the entrance fee. Two very small rooms, largely filled with average merchandise and post it notes from people that have visited sharing their favourite Goonies moment. You can buy your Goonies shirt online, give this one a miss.

Taylor Imes

I was a huge Goonies fan as a kid. I had to go check this place out. It's qorth checking out. But it is small. Do expect too much. But the kids in me loved it. If your a folm fan or Goonies fan don't miss it.

Kalani Prindel

You can no longer visit the home the Goonies was filmed in, so it was nice to get the opportunity to see the jail and Jeep used in the movie. There are also movie props from other films on display. Great little museum in my opinion, and the staff went out of their way to make sure I received my screen shots. Thank You!

Scotty J Retro Geek

A wonderful place to visit. Being a Goonies fan it's a must visit.

Micah Arnold

This location is probably best known for the Goonies. They have a lot of fun items in here, but it is a little small. I really enjoyed making my own video and I'm glad it wasn't too busy when we went.

Daniel Hyshka

Not worth the $6 to get in. Has enough content to occupy 10 mins of your time. The "main attraction" is being able to create your own 20 second video of yourself. Better use of the entry fee would be to go to the maritime museum 2 mins away. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Daniel Anderson

Very fun, we went for The Goonies, but I didn't realize how many other films I knew were filmed in Oregon as well. Make sure to go next door to the Flavel House as well.

Arrow

Small, boring. Not a lot of exhibits, and not even a lot of goonie stuff to see. Very cramped. Expensive for how tiny it is. Not a great museum at all. Don't waste your time or money

Mark Bergam

Just was not too impressed with the place. Kind of a mess and seemed a little disorganized. As far as a museum goes I expect a little more in the artifacts and info areas.

William Olen

WOW!!!! Amazing they did this...just amazing!

Michael Teoli

This is the jail from the Goonies. There are two parts to the museum. One part has cameras and scenes set up that you can film yourself doing a scene from a film. The other “museum” part is literally just the jail cells with some Goonies memorabilia in it. I was with a 4 year old who couldn’t do the scenes part so the museum literally took about 2 minutes. $6 NOT well spent. Wish we had done the Victorian mansion next door instead.

Brian Richardson

Nice, but very small. Not sure it's worth the 6 bucks

Vincent Cavallaro

I didn't go inside, just took a picture outside but based on the reviews, that should be fine. They have the Goonies Jeep outside so that's cool

Sabrina Chavez

great place to visit for Goonies fans

Chris Wellbrock

Great time seeing the "cell " . Just see!

April Strahan

LOVED this place!!

Jason Galla

The "Goonies" jail location. Just as I remembered it from the movie. There's lots of memorabilia to view, but it's very small inside. Still a must see if your a huge fan!

Otimepilot

This is a nice place to visit in Astoria. Only $6/person and although small...you can have some quick fun.

Jonathan G

I remember visiting here as well during spring break either 2013 or 2014 with my ex wife and our 3 kids. You can stand in the cell from the Goonies movie and it's just a really fun place. I'd love to come again on a long time off from work by myself to really enjoy it again. I'm a fan of the Goonies and visited everywhere I could from the movie that I could. Even the Goonie house, closed to the public sadly since someone lives in it. All in all Astoria is an awesome little town I'd love to live in and soak in the whole town the rest of my life.

jeff bearce

Excellent museum for the Goonies fan!

Vanessa Hutcheson

This was a fun place to visit. We had a blast making our own short films...

brian Gumaer

Quite a bit out of the way. Nice display. Just not what we expected. Nice curator

Trina Brand

It was cool to visit, but it is very small, and not all the sets were functional.

aubre williams

Such a super fun place, esp for Goonies fans.

Urban Carmel

Very small. For Goonie fans only.

Hunter Wahl

Don't get me wrong, it's cool to stand in the jail cell from the beginning of the Goonies, but there is little else here to justify the relatively minor cost of admission. Considering the sheer quantity of films shot in Astoria, it feels like there should be an extensive gallery of props and costumes, never before seen production videos or stills, facts and tidbits spanning both floors of the old jail house. What you unfortunately you see, is that most of the investment has gone into a computerized interactive system for making your own short films in a tiny studio with camears and green screens, and no way to keep other patrons from getting in the way. It's cool to have an interactive focus on the modern process of film making, but I want to see Johnny 5's stunt head, I want to see the screen used skull key from the Goonies. Maybe a cursory glance at the Goonies' impact is all you need so long as you get a bite out of the film making process yourself, but I left feeling like I didn't get my money's worth.

Trix Tor

Small but fun glimpse of Oregon film history. Three different sets allow visitors to film themselves in different scenes from movies or make up their own. Fun. Easy. Not at all mobility-challenged friendly.

Christine M

Super fun with people who like to laugh and have fun! You can recreate movie scenes and see props from movies. Its only about $5-$6 a person depending on your group size. You get scenes to take home and laugh at for years to come. Goonies stuff to see too!

Raymond Sindell

Cool place located in an old county jail. Great for Goonies fans.

Carson Huff

Kind of a dump, but you can recreate some amazing movie scenes here.

Jay Hofer

Cool place. Fun to shoot your own video clips.

Brittany Gulbrandson

This is the best kind of cheesy, low budget museum. Exactly what we were hoping for.

MJ Stiehm

Way cool! Super sweet and friendly staff!

Joni Donovan

Too much money for what's there even though it was only $6. Nothing really to see, no signage directing a person from room to room. We tried to make the best of it by "making" our own film. That was fun but only because we are funny. Suppose to receive our film by email. It's been a week. I've called twice. Now they tell us it could take a month for their tech staff in SEATTLE to find our file/film and send it to us. The other museums were interesting. Go to The Column. Astoria is a beautiful city, lots of photo opportunities. Go to Fort Stevens and tour the old military base instead.
