This Museum corresponds to the category of Museum.
Amazing, as usual. A touch of the world in our little wilderness. New pieces of art added recently were great, too. Loved eating at the sweet Cafe downstairs. Perfect addition to already amazing experience!
A small museum along the Columbia river with an eclectic collection of art. they also have a recreated Stonehenge that is almost 100 years old built by Sam Hill. A great stop and their location on a bluff overlooking the river is breathtaking.
To be fair, I didn't visit the museum. I attended a milonga (a tango event) on the patio. Gorgeous view of the Columbia river and great sunset, followed by incredible moonrise.
Been going since I was a child. Beautiful displays, lovely views.
Wonderful setting and amazing collection. Maybe our most outstanding stop.
Fun facts, great history. Beautiful
This museum is truly a gem. Plan to spend a day and immerse yourself in the history. The views are spectacular!
We're not much into fine art museums, but this one was more than just fine art. Plus the little cafe and an Italian Soda and the view on a sunny day made it perfect. Well worth the stop.
This is a long time family favorite! Great!
Lots of different stuff here. For me, it was worth it for the antique chess sets alone. Plus great views.
Lovely location surrounded by a beautiful environment. Was there attending a wedding and enjoyed the atmosphere. One item beyond control was the wind which created quite the chill.
A surprisingly diverse and beautiful museum in a large park-like setting, despite being at the corner of No & Where!
Live this museum, especially the chess displays from around the world (bottom floor). Have been here a couple of times, and always find something new to see or old to revisit. Look for a Groupon...
Worth the trip.. Very informative
Awesome glimpse of what was!
Absolutely great collection of art, history and chessboards.
Fantastic, well worth the drive, and kid friendly
When we looked at the first floor, my family and I were impressed and excited to see the other floors. But that changed quickly once we got up stairs! Everything was demonic and gory! Extremely creepy. We had very young children with us and felt there should have been some kind of warning upon entering the museum.
Beaitiful scenery and awesome collection. A must if you are in the area.
Nice collection but small.
Everyone should see this! Heart warming.
Great place to see and a bargain at 12 bucks
WOW! Watch the history video of Sam Hill to understand why this museum is built there. What in the Sam Hill lol
Well worth the visit.
A unique way to use this house. It is a wonderful art museum with visiting as well as permanent collections. Be sure to save time to walk around the grounds
Great history and gorgeous views
Although small worth it. Beautiful trip from Portland down the gorge and a winery right next door. Great day trip.
This a Jem out in the middle of no where. You will not be disappointed.
This is such a wonderful museum and historic building. Great exhibits in such a beautiful and remote location. Their new addition with the cafe overlooking the Gorge is breathtaking. A must stop when traveling East on the Columbia river.
Fantastic place and history. So much Rodin.
You have to visit this place ! If nothing else the Rodin sculptures. There are such good histories and explanations about the pieces, plan to stay awhile. If that's not your thing, there's art, Indian relics, and huge old mansion and grounds that it is in. Or, don't go inside and just admire the excellent view of the gorge from the overlook on site.
Beautiful, unusual exhibits...especially the chess sets from all over the world!
Beautiful art well worth visiting while vacationing
It's an interesting museum in an out of the way location. For me, the collection of chess sets was the best part. Also, the cafe overlooking the river is definitely worth a visit.
Hidden Jewel Fantastic museum. Lots of very old things, unique things. Took over 3 hours to tour .
We really enjoyed it! The price is good. It's a neat little area. If you like local history this is a good little stop for you.
A great museum with interesting treasures. I was unaware of the Rodin collection until recently. Worth a stop.
Beautiful grounds, we'll maintained and the views are outstanding. A definite must stop if not for the museum than for the grounds and view. A nice little cafe at bottom area overlook.
Simply Amazing! The art work is really great and many styles and types. My wife and I really enjoyed it. It took about 5 hours to see everything. The displays change often. The views of the Gorge and Mt Hood are spectacular!
The chess sets, though.
Absolutely beautiful building on an amazing site. Surprisingly eclectic and interesting collection. Staff very knowledgeable as well. Rich in history as well.
My 3rd visit in the past 17 years of moving back to the region. Amazing native American collection as well as one of the largest Rodin collections. Absolutely love it.
Beautiful place
You need at least couple of hours for this place. Beautiful, worth it. So much art and history. Make sure you stop by Stonehenge about 4 miles east of it. And you can go by the water at Maryhill state park, just down the hill from Stonehenge. Also when you come out from Maryhill state park there is wine tasting place, gotta feel local wines! Enjoy your day, you will love it! Just read little more about this places, before you go, that will give you a better feel of it!...
Great collection beautiful location
Always unique and exquisite. I love the displays at Maryhill. She is the crown jewel of all the amazing museums we have in the Columbia River Gorge.
A small mansion turned museum with a nice collection of Indian artifacts and Rodin fragments.
if you're looking for an exciting art museum on your stop between Yakima and Oregon swing by the maryhill museum will not be a disappointment. I highly recommend this museum they have an amazing collection of chess sets, furniture, local history, and fashion. The French doll collection is an amazing time bubble. And their Cafe is cute and serves the local maryhill wine. All around great stop for adults and kids alike. They also do a summer storytime for kids with their families every third Thursday of the month. Definitely worth the stop.
Pretty place you can walk around the place and pay if you want to go in
A beautiful museum and a beautiful view. We will definitely go again!
A very cool art museum in an amazing setting. The location and grounds almost show up the art.
Loved it! Amazing collections, and cafe is great!
Awesome place. You need to check it out. An oasis with an exotic and curious history.
Worthy epic road trup stop just for the views of the Columbia River below. Good variety of art work as well.
Just beautiful... didn't expect to have such a great experience in such a location... strongly recommended you to visit this great museum.
Worth the trip. Gorgeous views.
A must visit art and history museum. The scene is lovely. The chess sets are extraordinary. The cafe downstairs has a superb view. This is a rare find in a beautiful area.
Great view and it's free, museum does cost. But the grounds are wonderful. Beautiful art.
This is a family favorite. Fantastic art collection. Brilliant chess piece collection. Great source of local history and a gift to the region. The grounds are breath taking. If you haven't been here before, you should make point of visiting.
I'm not one who usually stops at art museums but I was impressed with the collection they have given the location. The crown jewel in my opinion has to be the items from the the queen of Romania. The grounds are well kept even after the winter season that Washington has had this year.
Nice chateau
Great facility true piece of history. Staff is
Outstanding museum with beautiful NW art. I really enjoyed the chess collection.
Rather expensive for a museum. We were most interested in seeing the castle and grounds for their historical roots but there have been so many changes and additions made it wasn't all that recognizable.
Great festival. The museum did an awesome job with the hundred year anniversary of Romania. We were invited for the dancing and food. Enjoyed the history shorts with the guys dressed like leaders including the saints, royals, and Vladimir Dracul. Most intriguing was the informative and entertaining lectures by authors, professors, and poets. Our appreciation for the contributions for Museum benefactor Queen Maria was greatly deepened by understanding her contributions in (coining the phrase) by actually getting ROMANIA 'on the map'. What a wonderful contribution for MMA to enrich the lives of those of us who came from Oregon, Washington and BC Canada.
What ever you do don't touch anything
The story of this museum is interesting, I recommend going.
Rodin sculpture. Queens furniture. Native American art very beautiful. French dolls with beautiful handmade dresses. Amazing chess sets from many cultures
Beautiful view wonderful arts and local historical value.
Out of the way but very much worth the drive. Wonderful staff. Helpful professional courteous.
Great setting, should stop if near. 10 dollars to get in. The winery is right down the road
Very cool museum in a spectacular location.
To many renovations ruined a historical building. Been going there since 1960. I'm done visiting that place.
I didn't know what to expect coming into the Maryhill Museum I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of art inside which included finely crafted furniture artwork sculptures Native American Heritage and ornate chest pieces. Was worth the $12 admission fee
Interesting and colorful history. Great art on display, beautiful setting
Outside looks great had dogs with me could not go in
Lots of art. Very cool. Very peaceful.
Pleasant little museum with interesting exhibits and art. The grounds are also lovely and you can't beat the views!
Lovely art museum with various collections including Rodin, Queen Mary of Romania's contributions, Native American, and much more. Well worth the drive and the time.
What a find in an unexpected area. Nicely cared for. Great story of how it came to be.
Interesting and a great venue for classic car shows!
Maryhill Museum is an amazing treasure in the somewhat barren (though by no means boring or unappealing) landscape east of the Cascades in Washington. In addition to featuring beautiful works of art, the museum tells the story of the building of the Columbia River highway. The history of the museum itself is rich and intriguing. The grounds are beautiful and the location offers gorgeous (sorry) views of the Columbia River gorge.
Great experience given the odd location.
Very nice museum with many more exhibits than I would have expected for such a rural area. Three and a half floors of exhibits plus nice cafe. Beautiful scenery and yard. Outside art exhibits are very nice, too. Fantastic view of the Gorge!
Been going here since I was a little kid, and it hasn't changed much but the newest addition with the chess area, and Cafe with an amazing panoramic view of the river and valley makes it worth repeat visits to come! The food is fresh and tastefully assembled. Will continue to stop here on my road trips.
I got in for free with a library pass and i feel like i over paid. Beautiful bldg and grounds but the so called art is a combo of creepy porn (think 70s garage sale nudes on velvet) creepy scary dolls with no faces (kids beware) and really poor quality art. Ive seen better in galaries. Dont pay to go here you will be disappointed or terrified.
Out in the middle of nowhere, beautiful, original works of art. Worth the trip!
You can spend all day exploring the collection of art & historical artifacts. I need to go back when i have more time.
I love the Maryhill museum! Always enjoy it
Very interesting I had never been to a museum I found it very inspiring and educational all in all I found it educational
World class museum & galley- beautiful landscapes, Stonehenge not to be missed!
Beautiful place, looked like there were very cool and interesting exhibits. Would've liked to spend more time browsing but chaperoning a third grade field trip and was just shown probably about a third of the museum. Definitely wanting to go back to see the rest.
A must see if you are in Columbia River gorge Picture is from chess set collection, cool but not the main attraction
This place is breath taking, even if you don't go into the museum just the grounds and the veiws are amazingly beautiful.
Nice ambience, could use more fine art for their displays overall though, it was very nice.
Well-done museum
Great place with wonderful views and awesome historical information, wonderful little cafe to enjoy a light lunch
Incredible collection of fine art and relics. My favorite was the Theatre de Mode, post WWII fashion miniatures. Museums are few and far between in Eastern Washington, so make the beautiful drive to come see this place. We spent at least 2 hours to see everything. Parking was easy and the cafe downstairs has really good sandwiches and potato salad.
Located on a hill, this place has a interesting history. This place used to be a residence converted into a museum. The museum has three floors, a lot of interesting items are on display.
Big Rodan fan. Their exhibit is as good as you can get without going to Paris
We availed ourselves of the annual free admission to residents of each county in the state. Check their site for YOUR county (of WA state). Sam Hill and his friends/associates brought amazing treasures here.
Lots of things to see great place to look around.
We were frequent visitors years ago. Now they have a winery and music venue. Interesting museum to visit. Also, Stonehenge is just down the road. If you are going through Paterson, be sure to stop at Columbia Crest Winery. Super place!
Great place to stop and visit if you're in the area. The cafe downstairs does a great job providing good sandwiches. Sometimes I drop by just for lunch
Great museum; one of the best I've visited! Expect to spend at least three hours. The chess sets are impressive, as are the late 19th century royal artifacts.
Very different art, but the history and house are awesome.
Wonderful. Very nice. Good place to visit. Lots of interesting things, educational, insperational.
A crown jewel in the many fine museums in the Columbia river gorge and very worth the visit. A special treat of unexpected treasures in this intriguing and historic castle above the river.
It's a wonderful stop along that route. A nice relaxing place to walk around and view outdoor art. Inside, the museum is filled with very interesting pieces. I especially enjoyed reading the details about Rodin and other artists.
I've visited the museum three times now. It really is a hidden gem! The orchards nearby are a treat as well
Interesting history of Sam Hill and how this place came to be.
Spectacular venue and view!! Can't wait to make a return trip.
So pretty and what a view
I really enjoyed Maryhill. It's worth the drive partially because it is so unexpected. The grounds are pristine and the beautiful building is filled with interesting surprises. The furniture unusual. The miniature dresses sent over from the world's best known designers as order samples is very detailed. The location is terrific as viewing the vineyards and River are captivating.
Beautiful place that is peaceful and tranquil. Wish I could live there.
Really good museum and good parking.
Its a lovely Museum with breathtaking views. The ground are immaculate and the staff is friendly. There is a lot of history to be told, and they do it well. Worth the srop.
This world class museum is in an amazing setting. It's worth the drive out there.
Awesome Museum! Pretty sizable Romanian exhibit
Just a quick (1.5 hrs) drive from Portland, Oregon, Maryhill is a world away from big city life. High desert plains, big views of the Columbia River Gorge, sunshine, and a mansion built by a rich man named Sam Hill in the early 20th century. This museum is full of great exhibits and historical information. The grounds are worth a long stroll. The views are incredible, and the art collection is amazing also. I highly recommend a visit to Maryhill Museum of Art.
A must see. They have a basement of Native American artifacts and pieces along with many great donations from Queen of Romania, Marie as permanent displays. There are many new and revolving displays for frequent goers as well.
Worth the admission just for the chess set. Amazing grounds, great native American exhibits. Good Cafe.
So much to see and explore and fabulous view!
Always a good time regardless of exhibits.
Incredible and extensive collection of historically significant pieces set in an amazingly picturesque location. There's a cafe which isn't incredibly good (definitely don't get the tuna nicoise salad, the German Frankfurter sandwich is pretty good though), however the collection is something that is a must-see if you're in the area.
The location is just amazing and the museum is wonderful. try to get out here on a nice clear day and if you do make it out, follow highway 97 up towards goldendale till you get out of the Gorge, the view is spectacular (Hood, Adams, St.Helens and Rainier) and adds only 5 minutes to your trip.
Fantastic museum with a wonderful and surprising collection of items.
Great Museum love it so much definitely a must!
Very interesting museum. Three floors of igletic items, interesting art sculptures out side and a east room of awesome chess boards. Easy to spend a day there.
It was okay. I felt it was pricey for what was there.
This museum has a huge collection of various art. I was really impressed with the Rodin section and the chess peices were really beautiful. In the basement there is a wonderful Cafe with decent food. The woman who served us was very nice and accommodating. The view of the Columbia River was absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend this museum.
Family friendly museum. Beautiful gold plated furniture, a fantastic chess collection, and of course wonderful art in all it's forms. Fun lawn sculptures for the kids to enjoy. It even includes a cafe with delicious sandwiches and a large variety of beverages. We had the veggie, turkey and provolone and grilled cheese sandwich.
Classy and very beautiful tributes to the area's history, as well as its rich theatre and art scene contributions. Fans of Chess art: be sure and check out the basement near the Loie Fuller Cafe!
So wonderful to spend the day with my family here. We looked at all the history and art then had a beautiful picnic in the park. Just beautiful in every way.
I only got to see Stonehenge this visit as the museum was closed. But I'm definatly planning on going back again when the museum is open.
So this is an incredible hidden gem of Washington only almost 2 hours from Portland Oregon. It has stuff from queen Mary of Romania the last tsar of Russia cousin. Also collection of ww2 and post ww2 fashion dolls from Paris France. Huge native american artifact collection and a small fabrige collection. So worth the trip, while there check out the stone henge reproduction .
This is one of our favorite places to visit.
Such a pleasant walk of beautiful art and a Grand View of the Columbia gorge
Cool place in a beautiful location. Worth it to spend a few hours here
Thoroughly enjoyed stargazing event.
Great museum and good variety. The staff at the counter was friendly and help gave us directions to our next stop.
Amazing and entertaining for my husband and I as well as four children ranging in age from 5 months to 12 years old. Also loved that there was an elevator as well as stairs to go between the levels as we were traveling with a stroller
Nice museum, and wine is just around the corner!
Great art museum
Awesome stop in the Eastern Gorge.
The exhibits are open and is inexpensive.
I was totally astounded by the collection, beauty of the museum and grounds. A true gem in the wilderness. So glad we took the time to thoroughly enjoy it.
Artwork was enjoyable, also interesting sculptures. Would have enjoyed seeing period clothing from the owner's wife if available and more information about her. Miniture dress models of various periods was interesting to study.
Great art immersion in a locale with mind-expanding views. Excellent Rodin collection!
Finding a museum of this quality in such a remote location is amazing. I drive highway 14 often, and sometimes bring a lunch to eat on the grounds outside (with free parking and no fee) where there's a great view of the Columbia River Gorge.
Really great stop with views and art. Loved it.
Amazing and well curated collection of art, especially that connected with Romania. Grounds superb and staff helpful.
Outstanding art museum in the Columbia River Gorge
I stop once a year at least and anytime I have guests along. A wonderful piece of history, fabulous views and a great place to picnic or grab a bite in the cafe.
Miss the peacocks roaming the grounds. Dislike the new wings and railing that takes away from the mansion. Beautiful view except for the wind generators all through the scenic gorge, littering the landscape. Tragic.
Awesome. The grounds were beautiful and we learned so much from the tablets along the River and on the grounds. Just peeked inside the museum and it looked grand. Lovely place to visit.
Amazing art, architecture, location and history. You can really get up close to the art here! Worth the trip.
It's worth seeing at least once. It has history from the local area & the view is great. I would visit more if the price wasn't $15 per adult.
