This is an unusually well endowed museum for a very small town. Its main focus is the early settlers to the area, most of whom arrived via the Oregon Trail. In fact its Oregon Trail wagon is the most original in existence. Only the cloth cover has been replaced. It's a small wagon, the most common kind on the trail because it could be pulled by two mules or two oxen. Journeyers walked beside this type wagon because there wasn't room to ride. That was fine because the ride would have been very uncomfortable over the rough trail. The museum also has displays of the early bank, dentist, doctor, and store to name a few. It's also unusual because it's open 7 days a week. Even the building is an antique, it's the old Brownsville railway station.

This has got to be the most amazing museum I have ever seen. It is chock full of stuff to look at and interesting stories to read. I will be back again and again to absorb all of it. It us well laid out, it's like walking down the street peeking into the store windows. I especialy liked reading the stories of the people who passed through on the Oregon trail. And... it's free! Although I did make a donation, it was well earned. I loved it!

A nice out of the way museum. Lots of interesting items, including an original carriage from the Oregon Trail. The movie Stand By Me was also filmed in the town. The cute old couple was very nice. It's free, but I tipped $5 because they were so nice

This was a worthwhile experience. They have extensive displays of pioneer living, including a covered wagon. As I had a relative in the area in 1880, the many genealogy records right in the museum were helpful in locating where my kin might have farmed. The staff was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Help them out with a donation
