As you know, we don't usually stop to give reviews when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Museum is classified in the category of Museum.
Absolutely amazing artists! So fun to see them painting in person, and the kids love the carousel. Also nice to be out of the elements this time of year. Great spot for families or elder statesmen alike.
Had a blast, great fun for kids and adults! Reasonably priced gift shop as well!!!! Will definitely come back again
Wonderful atmosphere for the private function we attended tonight!
Very nice carousels hand made were very beautiful
Well worth the time. Amazing!
Beautiful and fun historic, re modeled carousel. Carving room very eye opening. Friendly volunteers.
I love the beautiful carousel and helpful volunteers.
The Carousel in Albany is a definite must see! All of the animals are hand carved right there in the museum. "Beautiful" is an understatement.
What's more fun than an historic carousel ride? Beautiful and artfully carved.
Beautiful and lunch was just 5 bucks!
Very nicely restored Carousel, volunteer staff were helpful and enthusiastic.
We were so excited to not only go to my soms first Carousel but the one I went to as a kid
Took my goddaughter here and we had a great time. We did the carousel three times ($2/ride as of today). We also bought their passport so she can record each of the animals she rides. We were fortunate that they had volunteers actively carving today. Our guide was really knowledgeable and pleasant.
This is an amazing community project! Thank you to everyone that participated in the dozen year project! I have so much appreciation for this place!
Super cool experience, lots of history.
What a special place! So much history and community coming together to make this place a reality! I first visited a year ago on vacation, and now that we just moved here, I frequent it often. Make sure you go request a free tour from someone! You get to go downstairs to the woodcarving studio and get some more background on the carousel, as well as possibly seeing the carvers in actions and chatting them up! They also have room for birthday parties and other events. Lovely staff. This is a must-see! You can buy carousel ride tokens for $2 at the registers. You can also see the paint studio and explore the awesome gift shop! Be warned that they are closed on Tuesdays!
Beautiful carousel and building. Worth the stop if you're in the area
Take a step back into the Willamette Valley’s historical, friendly hometown of Albany, Oregon. The Carousel “pieces,” have been restored from years ago. The people who work there are very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and I do believe they are there on a volunteer basis. Took my friend from out of town to see the wonders a bit late in the day, they allowed entry with a couple of rides though they were closing. It is definitely worth making an effort to stop and be enriched!
So fun for every size kiddo.
Be sure to go down and visit the carvers in the basement. An amazing amount of love and work has gone into this carousel, and it's amazing to get to see people actually working on the new/additional animals.
Definitely worth the visit. The price to ride is cheap at $2 per ride. You can get a tour of the whole place and see how the animals are made and painted. Make this a must stop if your in Albany.
My girls love to go. My youngest loves to ride different animals each time. Plus many stationary for my eldest daughter is has autism.
Amazing historical carousel! Be sure to take the tour and see them carving the animals and the history.
Love the whole place. It's a must see and ride the animal's. Fun fun fun
This place is a nice addition to historic Albany and it is actually very clean despite the fact that you've got kids and ice cream, lol. The staff that volunteer here are very friendly.
Absolutely beautiful workmanship on these! All fully restored by hand carving wood. Only $2 to ride!!
Beautiful carousel but they rely on volunteers so open times are sketchy and they even charge the handicapped to ride.
There are good hand made wood pieces of animals. Its a nice place to visit while in Oregon
Unique carousel built with with original animals carved by master carvers in their own workshop. Ask for a tour and you will be impressed.
This is a definite must stop and see, in Historic downtown Albany where you can even find a great place to stop and eat then if you really want yocan explore great antique stores like cronies. And other places throughout old Downtown Albany.
Sweet time in Albany at the historic carasel. My four year old grandson was entranced by the beautiful animals and the experience.
I love to come here the staff are very nice very friendly there they have accommodated us my friend has a wheelchair and she's able to ride on the carousel which is great this place is definitely somewhere you should check out
This place is beautiful and the staff are extremely friendly. There is a neat museum section and you can see them carving and painting new stunning animals for the carousel in another section. We had a great time.
Very fun and interesting place. Got a free tour of the carving area and the guide was friendly and helpful. Beautiful carousel, lots of unique animals, and they're always working on new ones. Nice gift shop. Close to a beautiful park.
We held our mom's 89th birthday party here. It was a real blast. The staff went above and beyond. We chose this venue because of the beautiful craftsmanship, fun activities and because we were raised in Albany. None of us live in Albany. It was well worth all of the planning and traveling. Best party ever. Carousel is amazing. You can also watch the artists make the creatures. I didn't take the basement tour but I heard if you get to see the basement it holds surprises for you. There are snacks you can buy next to the carousel as well as a gift shop. It's on the riverfront and so you can walk to the water or to the cool shops and restaurants. Enjoy!
The carousel was really nice. It was a good length ride too. I think that the worker we had was a little tired or something, she was really slow between rides and lectured the kids like crazy before it started. However she was happy as was all other staff.
Showed up at last call today and got to enjoy a free ride! Beautifully carved animals.
Really great for young kids. Excellent wood carving. Beautiful building.
Better than I expected. The volunteer staff is super informative about the history and making of the carousel and each unique piece. So friendly and nice. Loved it!
Beautiful carousel, brought back the old world charm of yesterday
The kids love it here. $5 family night is Wonderful.
Very interesting history, liked our tour guide. Like how you can talk to the artisans. Always fun to ride a Carousel!!
Enjoyed being there very much. Attendants were VERY helpful.
We lived it. The tour was good. Had a lot of fun on the carousel.
It is a MUST see/do . My 82-year-old friend was as blown away as a child might be. The volunteers are so friendly and helpful. We got free rides for our birthdays. The tour is so interesting.
This place is remarkable! Be sure and ask for a tour to get the unique history of the carousel and see the animals come to life! Brouse the store and ride the carousel! I am so in "awe" of the place!
I have been taking our residents from Junction City to the Albany Carousel for the last 5 years. We've seen the different locations and watched the growth and conception of this marvelous project. It is an absolutely amazing project that involves the community as well. Hats off to everyone for this incredibly special place of beauty and inspiration!
They have done a beautiful job. They do special events for the holidays that are magnificent.
I see how much the Carousel does for the community, and I am grateful it is there. I enjoy all the people that volunteer there. I also volunteer there but I try to be a regular customer as well.
My daughter loves this place and it's all charity and volunteer ran
Beautiful carousel. I think it's expensive.
Fun. Indoors, out of the rain or heat. Ride, concession, gift shop, museum, workshop, party rooms & tours. Interests for all ages. Benches, restrooms, water fountains & located next to river front park with pet friendly (clean up bags stations) walking paths, benches & river decks with benches. Located downtown Albany, short walk from restaurants, shopping and antiques.
My nephew and niece love this place. We went, even though my 7 year old nephew said it looked like a baby's place, then after one ride, he wanted to ride all day, he loved it so much. Lol!!
This place takes you to a different place in time, it was very comforting for me, priceless experience, the museum is cool but the carousel is where it's at
I absolutely love the Albany Historic Carousel. Run by volunteers, the animals are carved and painted by Albany citizens. The Carousel house is intricately crafted with high wood ceilings, carved animal door handles, and hand painted carousel panels. It is just one of Albany's historic buildings to behold. I had the sheer pleasure of hanging out at the carousel during a lunch hour on a day when a busload of senior citizens arrived. The bright smiles, giddiness, and giggles coming from these elderly citizens as they rode the carousel animals is a memory I will cherish.
This was more fun and educational then I thought it would be. It reminded me of my youth. The area is easy walking distance with restraunts neatby. Albany is a beautiful community for a day trip.
A truly wonderful place with friendly helpful folks. I went with my terrible two's twin grandson & granddaughter. Also their mom. Who had most fun I don't know ! Maybe ME!
Always a fun time and a good place to go when your on a budget. Spent 6$ and got two rides on the carousel and an ice cream cone :) I do wish they had fresher food tho. I bought a pretzel with cheese last time and it was so hard I couldn't even eat it.
Absolutely lovely place. We take the kids here every month. The craftsmanship that goes into each piece is simply amazing. These are true artists and the kids love watching the works being painted in the back by the artists themselves. This really is a classic that you must see.
I'm so glad that Albany has this place. It really adds something special to or downtown. My kids are getting a little old for it now but every time my sister visits we bring her little girl there and she enjoys it. I especially like the carnival they do every year
This is a great place for a family outing. The carousel is slowly being refurbished with hand carved animals painstakingly carved from bass wood. There is a room downstairs where one can see the carvings in progress.
The History & artistry of the Carousel is very well displayed with several artifacts. There is a workshop area where other animals are being prepared to add to replace the sleighs now on the actual unit. The working Carousel has three rows of animals, with the outer row stationary, & inner two rows active. The details are fantastically painted in brilliant colors, highlighted with lights. There is a mechanically operated calliope type music unit that adds both charm & ambiance to the scene. A store where souvenirs are available, with many stuffed replicas of several animals displayed on the Carousel.
Historic, fun, nostalgic, a blast from the past! Quite the cool place to come and visit while we are visiting from South Dakota! Love it!
Our family had a great time going on the carousel and going on the tour below where they hand craft the wooden animals. What a magical place. The people who work here are lovely. We will be coming back every time we are in Albany.
So awesome like stepping out into the passed.
We went for the first time today with our 14 year old granddaughter. She remembers seeing a lot of the animals being made when she was 6 or 7 years old. We got a tour of the basement. We had the best time!! Thank you everyone for making the day wither our granddaughter so great
This is an amazing carousel restoration. It is beautiful.
Omgosh The Most Beautiful Carousel in Oregon. The Animals on the Carousel are All Hand Painted and Beautiful Whenever Your in Albany Oregon go to the Carousel You'll NEVER Regret it
Loved seeing all the hand carved pieces! They're not "Vintage" like I thought but it was still really cool to see the artistry stay alive! I LOVE Carousels.
My daughter is absolutely in love with this place.
I love how there's so many different animals other than horses. The gift shop is amazing and it has lots of cool things.
The animals are amazing creations with so much detail. I love reading the stories about each one. And the volunteers are gracious and caring making sure every rider, young or old, e,joys their experience.
Great place to visit. The rides are only $2.
So much fun. Rode the carousel 3 times. Took the downstairs tour of the carving room and viewed the progress in the painting room. Enjoyed a mustard dog to top it off.
Handmade animals. Great volunteers. Guided tours through the carving and painting areas.
First time. And uts definitely not like other. Craftmanship is very cool
This is the most magical carousel ever! If you are ever in the area, stop by. It's worth it for young and old alike!
Would recommend this to any family we're very proud of Albany and what they have put into this carousel.
They make their own carousel animals in house. Beautiful building and carousel. Make sure to donate to keep it open. Run by volunteers. Very historical.
Awesome place to see hand carved animals from start to finish that are then mounted onto the carousel. A must visit if you are in the area. Free tour run by volunteers so donations would help and $2 carousel rides.
Well organized very clean wonderful!
Fascinating place. The carousel is beautiful and to imagine it's a community project done by volunteers is quite different. It's a great way to spend an hour. No admission required, but it's $2 to ride.
Worth your visit. Hand carved horses and other carvings. Go to the area where they carve the horses very good lesson in what it takes to carve the animals for the carousel.
I loved being included in helping to carve a little for some of the animals watching things grow into something amazing ... Some really incredibly talented artists did a fantastic job of wood carving and how amazing to watch the growth of everything little by little ... Still very impressed !!
Kind of a must see if you're into carousels. They hand carve them in the basement. Buy the ticket, take the tour
Amazing project by the whole community.
The result of volunteers pulling together always brings amazing results. We had visited this during the design stages and glad we got to see the final results.
Best tour ever! Knowledgeable volunteers. Great gift store! Some food available to buy. Alk good.
Beautiful hand carved and painted animals and a friendly volunteer staff. Great family fun.
Lots of volunteers work this museum and all very knowledgeable and should be very proud of work.
A great place to enjoy a great thrill of a vintage style carousel & a tour of great artifacts, behind the scenes of how each beautiful hand carved animal is made. Had great service at this place and each time, enjoy every moment inside with a great place to be filled with happiness. Conveniently located in downtown Albany by lots of restaurants, shopping and other places, closeby
Awesome place for all ages...Best of good times for sure.....
Beautifully carved animals with intricate detail.
Very nice. Lots of riders - of all ages - having fun. Explore a guided tour to the carvers den then watch the painters addd to the finishing new rides. Nice gift area. Easy parking
My partner and I have been wanting to visit this historic carousel in Albany. Wow, were we ever impressed. Not only do you get to ride a beautiful carousel, but they have a guided tour where you get to see historic carousel characters but also get to see several characters in the process of being carved or painted. It was very interesting and worth the visit.
The historic carousel in Albany is stunning! It's super cheap to ride too, only $2! I'm a photographer and took a family's photos there, it was perfect.
Wonderful place to visit all ages. So much time put into this place over many years. It's been exciting to watch it grow. So much respect to all involved. Come one come all and check this place out. Albany is a super town lots to do.
After living in Albany for 5 yrs and moving away, we came back to tour the carousel and museum. We had the Chinook in our B&B for a few years before the carousel opened and so it was very cool to see it displayed along with all the animals hand carved and painted by volunteers over many years. The building is gorgeous and we were really impressed with this project from the beginning. So great to see it this way.
Fun place to see the carved animals. We went downstairs to where you can still see the work in progress - a labor of love! My little grandson, on another trip there, had a great time choosing which one he wanted to ride, and then going "around and around" on the carousel. The snack we purchased there was nice too!
Very cool place! It's all unique and beautiful. Fun ride! Kids love!
Volunteers have done a wonderful job restoring this indoor carousel. Currently rides are $2 each. It’s a nice children’s activity. Parents/guardians ride for free when accompanying a child. The animals range from traditional horses to more fantastic dragons or other unusual choices like a buffalo. Inside you’ll find a concession stand, gift shop and carving/painting room where you can preview new animals coming soon. bathrooms are clean. There is a rental room available parties. Unless there is a planned music event, a automatic music machine accompanies each ride.
Beautiful place to spend an afternoon. My 3 year old nephew loved it. Because we visited during spring break (and on a rainy day) it did seem extremely crowded, but a normal week day may have been a little more calm. The carousel figures are lovely, and the detail work amazing, perfect for photo opportunities. They even allow you to observe while they work on new features.
Last ride of the day is free!! Just stopped in because we were in town and hopped on the carousel!! Fun time!
This place is great the volunteers working were really great Gram! and they helped her get up on the carousel they even went so far as to go get a step so she could get on. She is 88! we were there at the end of the day so we got an extra ride because the last ride is free if you already been riding. <3 so it was awesome! We will def be back!!! it's beautiful!!! it's an amazing place you should definitely check it out if you're in Albany. Only $2 a ride. Ty
My husband and I took our 5 year old granddaughter there yesterday and she absolutely loved it!!! We will be back, and of course she got a present from the gift shop. She surely felt like a princess
So amazing the workmanship is awesome love taking my daughter here
Beautifully executed, and they maintain a vintage sense of whimsy. Fun for the whole family!
Gorgeous hand-carved animals, great volunteer staff (thanks for always waving back at the young riders!), and getting to see how it all comes to life makes it much more interesting from an adult perspective.
Wonderful place to visit. We rode the Carousel. And learned so much about the work that goes into carving these works of art. Touring the carving room was a treat The Volunteers deserve a huge pat on the back for all their hard work.
A favorite must-see place to come when visiting family in Albany. Perfect for smaller children. And the tour was very interesting for the adults. Also fun to see the carvers at work.
Awesome and historic remember when kid And would ride them, ride this one
We love going here. The animals are beautiful and we always take the tour to see the progress of the rest of thr carving
My Papa was in town for a visit. He loves to go and do things with my son. I decided it would be fun to show him the carousel. We road it a couple of times. He was talking with a volunteer about how the carousel works. The volunteers are very knowledgeable about it and are happy to answer questions. The facility is kept nice and clean. There is a concession stand right next to the carousel as well as seating to get to watch the carousel in action. We will be back. Such a fun time!
The work that has been put into this place is amazing! The volunteers are so dedicated. It's truly a work of art and love.
Halloween is really cool. Staff are very friendly. It's a little expensive if your buying tokens for the carousel if you have a couple kids it adds up pretty fast because they just want to keep riding. And at $5 for 2 minutes it adds up pretty fast
The BEST carousel I have ever been to, and the #1 reason: The Staff. What a phenomenally delightful group of volunteers!! It's clear that they love what they do. They make you feel warm and welcomed, they're very engaging with the kids and adults alike! When we came looking at houses in the area, this is the fist place we went after looking at a house. These are the people who made me want to live here. As for the carousel itself, truly beautiful carvings. This place is perfect. We come as often as possible. ❤️
Short ride but fun for the kids
We love the carasel. Such wonderful people who truly enjoy children run it. The carasel animals are works of art.
Best made carousel animals anywhere.
Lots of hard work went into this place, and it really shows! Excellent location, beautiful hand carved animals (diverse too, I rode on a salmon). The museum was well done, and interesting, and we really loved the restoration studio in the back. 100% will go again.
Free tours of the carving room includes some history an atifacts from retired carousels. Well worth a visit.
Amazing place where they make carousel animal's. Ran by volunteers. Tour of downstairs is a must. See where they carve and paint the animals.
Great place for little ones.
A living museum. Ride the carousel with the kids, take the behind the scenes tour and know so much more about carousels, wood carving, a bit of the human history too. Well worth the stop.
This was totally awesome place to go you can go on the tour that they have you can also to take a ride on the indoor carousel a great place for children rides are $2.00 it will be worth it to see the smile on their face
Lots of history and fun! Take a ride on one of the most lovingly maintained carousels in the state, if not the nation. Volunteers are all around ready to answer questions and share the history of the carousel. Or go downstairs and watch volunteers carve out new animals, and learn about the time and skill needed to carve a carousel animal. Then back upstairs to the back of the gift shop to the painting area to see the wooden carvings come to life as volunteers paint the carousel animals.
Very nice indoor carrousel run by very polite volunteers
It was so fun riding with my grandkids!#BLESSED
This place is simply fantastic! We went here because they were hosting Christmas festivities during the Albany Twice Around Christmas Parade. We took the time to do a tour of the workshops where they craft all the carousel animals and it was amazing! The staff were friendly and the prices were decent. This is a must do if you have kids, or if you don't.
Was worth going to. Very informational and fun. Especially for a 5 year old and a grandmother. Worth the trip.
This is a gem. It's an inspiration to see people investing in old school skill sets and keeping some history alive.
Wonderfully kept and maintained classic carousel from the early 1900's, volunteers are constantly updating the animals. They are hand carved and painted volunteers. Great place to visit and take your date or kids or just explore.
This place is very well designed and maintained. The staff is extremely friendly and everything is top quality. Well worth the visit if you have young kids and also has available party rooms.
Went to the Lego event that a group put on and had a blast. Took the kids on the tour and found put that their is a basement where they do all the carving and my kids loved it.
Fun for kids and adults...carving area downstairs worth the visit
Loved by both kids and aadults!
It has historic values awesome my kids loved it
Very cool, so glad I stopped and took the tour. Awesome and friendly volunteer staff. An excellent community project. A must see if in Albany.
We've got two little kids (2+4), and they loved the carousel here. The staff was very friendly, and I thought the price was very reasonable at $2 per ride. They only charged for our kids, and we didn't have to pay to accompany them on the carousel. Not a bad activity for $4.
Amazing place...can see the creation of the carousel animals... beautiful.
A lot of history to be seen here ... Loved that you get to see them working on the new animals ❤️
We visited the Carousel & Museum on a Saturday. While there, several different volunteers answered my questions. One even took me down in the basement where the carver's are working on additional animals to be installed on the carousel. If you go, be sure to your the carving room! Very cool!
I did not personally ride on the carousel. But I did enjoy the museum part where you can see them carving new characters. They also have on display some very old curasol characters. They also allow you to touch and feel the things which is good for kids.
I love this carousel. Been visiting them for many years. From the initial stages of hand carving the first characters to it being a fully functioning carousel. Love that they still allow visitors to see artist's work. From a block of wood, to a carved character, to the artists painting each unique piece to completion. Nice that these artists & Craftsmen still do this by hand
Very fun for kids and adults. There is a would downstairs and a gift shop inside.
Beautiful carousel with free tours to explain how the animals are carved. Lots of donated historic carved animals to view. Pleasant gift shop and concessions and $2 rides on the carousel. 2 rooms for private parties.
I visited the Albany Carousel expecting to see a carousel with some nicely carved animals. What I did not expect was number and variety of the animals, each one with amazing details. Even after over an hour watching the carousel I would still spot a different animal or hidden detail that I had not noticed before. If that is not enough, the museum, though small, is utterly interesting, itself. We were visited during the week, which gave us time to really examine things and look carefully. Overall, we spent 3 hours there. If you go, engage one of the volunteers in conversation to learn some interesting tidbits. I plan to go back and take the tour of the carving area.
Fun place to be for a little but of time that's all they have carousel and a small food court!
Cool hand made creations good place to feel like a kid again
Everyone should go. Uplifting and look at the hand painted beautiful art. Speaks to the inner child in everyone.
It was great, hadn't been there b4, and took my Granddaughter
Great people who work/volunteer there. Beautifully decorated, nicely kept clean. Very fun time.
Its beautiful. Amazing hand carved animals. The staff are very kind and accomodating. It's great at only 2 dollars a ride. We love it.
Super cute carousel. The animals are crafted so amazingly.
Wonderful, beautiful place. The carousel is lovely, the workshop is interesting, the people were nice. Free admission, only $2 a ride.
My daughter's had so much fun and excitement. We will definitely be doing that again.
The Carousel is really special in our community. Years of work by artists volunteering their time for this labor of love.
This is a must if you're visiting Albany. So many people have volunteered and done amazing carvings and paintings to make this carousel what it is. Only $2/ride and they have a concession stand, gift shop and offer tours of the carving areas. The building is super clean and nice. Also have a great baby changing station in the bathrooms. :)
