If you think Douglas County cant have a great museum, you're wrong.

I visit lots of different museums around the country. This museum is very clean, open floor plan, decent air conditioning, and friendly. It feels like a work in progress because there is painting and roped off areas. The lighting on some different splays is not sufficient and several displays lack explanation. The early native American displays need more native American and less white settlers. There are shaped stones, tomahawks, and clothing, and information on migration and diet, but not on culture. Lots of settlers that should be in another section, like downstairs with the wagon, and household treasures. If you visit only one museum outside the big cities, this is a good one, I t covers native Americans, pioneers, gold, logging, forestry, and the animal furs, and animals are really well done. Good job on the taxidermy!

Lots to see... a great collection of vintage machinery. Right off the highway by the fairgrounds it's definitely worth a stop if you want to learn about the local history. While shopping in town a local mentioned the great explosion, here I was able to learn all about it.

This museum is very well put together and its displays are nicely done. The animal displays and dioramas were very realistic. The entrance fee is reasonable and the cashier at the front desk was very engaging. They group animals together in species categories that are well done. Enjoyed it!
