Very cool place, a piece of history. Today they were running some of the steam engines, some are a century old. It was very interesting. I love historical places and museums and learning every visit. Its important for everyone to know our history so we don't have history repeat itself. and choose to remember the truly outstanding memories and learn from the other memories and move on. Today was truly an outstanding memory to hold on to. This is a cool place to visit even if you miss the one day a year that they run some of the steam engines. We saw wood being cut by an incredibly old steam run huge saws that cuts a log into a square block or post. We had a great time. The one day a year may be father's day or June 16th. I don't really know.

If you want to step back in time what it was like for some of the early pioneers and discovery of Oregon this is the place to go the Machinery that they have preserved is wonderful....their jobs were not done with skill saws this was the old-fashioned way before lot of modern technology and yet the technology that they used back then are some of the same principles they use for the everyday tools that people use now..... It is a real treasure that they preserved so much....

This is an outdoor museum dedicated to logging equipment. It is in Colliers Memorial State Park and is an easy walk from the campground. There are guided tours, or you can just walk through on your own. Lots of great signs to explain the evolution of logging in the area. The machinery is arranged by time periods and is displayed well. Lots of dedicated volunteers in gift shop, conducting tours, and providing demonstrations. Several old buildings and cabins have been moved to the site, but the machinery is the star of the show here. We spend a lot of time just walking around seeing everything. Well worth stopping to see.

Great Place To Experience Oregon History Up Close....for Free. The examples of actual 19th century logger and homesteader cabins and lifestyle are magnificent. A guided self-tour takes you through the very early days of the Oregon logging industry up to today's much more environmentally conscious practices. Kids and adults get a chance to get up close to the giant equipment used to harvest trees and learn about their use and evolution. A great way to spend a morning or afternoon (leave a donation at the end if you wish)..

I happened on this place by accident so I dropped in. It's not at all fancy but very interesting for anyone who cares about machinery or the history of logging in the Northwest. There's a wonderful collection of old machinery and buildings, some of it restored and some of it still a work in progress. It's obvious That the museum was put together as A labor of love by volunteers. Some of the equipment is still waiting to be restored and is a work in progress. That means you get to look at the machinery up close without being constrained by barriers and scolding museum guards. Visiting the museum is great way to break your journey across of wonderfully scenic part of the state. An interesting stop for all ages.
