Hidden gem!! Very friendly and knowledgeable tour guides. Perfect stop for an afternoon picnic. Gorgeous gardens, breathtaking carvings, handmade knives
This place is amazing. The quality of workmanship is unbelievable in the Models that are in the museum, & the knives that are sold. Highly recommend this place.
By far the coolest exhibit I have ever seen.
Fascinating place. I didn't have the time to learn the history.
Yup, you simply HAVE to go here. The museum shows the finest carvings I have ever seen (and I've traveled throughout Europe). If you're in Dover, this is definitely worth a stop. Don't miss it!
Great craftsmanship and learning about he was self taught was really interesting. Good tour and towards the end a lot of his train carvings are shown. Did not know that he had one last train to finish but decided not to after his stroke and that was his "unfinished symphony" as it were.
This place was so amazing, I went home and threw all my carving knives out. Seriously though, it's awesome, beautiful work, and very impressive collections. Definitely worth the admission fee.
Great museum
I love their knives and how they sharpened them free if charge every time I take them in.
Interesting place. Loved it!
Wonderful place for the entire family to learn about a lot of things
What a fantastic place to get your knives sharpened. And there is no better knife than a Warther. Great gift shop with unique items.
The craftsmanship on display here is amazing and the people leading the tours are extremely knowledgeable and informative as well as entertaining! Well worth the visit.
This is hidden gem. A must if you are in the area. Our guide was the wife of a relative and very informative. Ernest had so much talent. It isn't fair.
An interesting place!! If you Love Trains you will be in your glory....
Great place for families with children 5 and above. A must see to appreciate Mr Warther carving works. Some of his carvings are impossible. However, His skill and hard work shows that he was a genius. Do not miss putting this museum on your must see list.
One of the most amazing remarkable man in his time
An amazing collection of world class carvings.
Beautiful historic gem in Dover. The gardens are meticulous! If you haven't taken a tour I definitely recommend. The carvings are amazing. I could spend all day in the button house alone. So much to see in 1 attraction.
This was an incredible time. Ernest "Mooney" Warther was an incredible craftsman, with no formal training and no formal training. His passion was trains, and his train carvings are immense, in size, and scale, and the attention to detail is mind-boggling. The tour is very informative, and interesting. The tour is a little slow for little kids, though, so be warned. The kids, if they are into trains, will find the trains extremely interesting. There is a gift shop, near the end, where you can buy standard sift shop fare, but you can also buy the world-famous Warther Cutlery, which Mooney created, also. Children under 6 are free.
Everyone I have taken through here is amazed. You won't be disappointed!
An amazing display of raw, God-given talent! I wouldn't even be able to VISUALIZE, let alone CARVE, the intricately-designed masterpieces which I saw at this place! Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and thorough! Enjoyable! Great place for both adults and children!
Extremely interesting. A real treasure for Ohio
A must see! Any of their products are highly recommended as we have never purchased a bad item.
Awesome! Amazing! Highly recommended
Great place to see this man's carvings and learn about him. This man had a great passion for his carvings, and he's a nice guy.
it's a fascinating place if you like it history
Educational. Tour guides were very knowledgeable. Knew the Warther family personally. Carvings were incredible.
This is a wonderful place to take the family or just visit the museum for its many great creations. The Christmas tree festival is also a very nice time. You can buy some of their many different kinds of crafts and knives in the gift shop. Overall, it's a fantastic addition to the community. If you haven't been there, I strongly suggest that you take a visit to the Warthers museum.
A master Carver. His favorite subject was early railroading. His hero was Lincoln so he carved the Lincoln funeral train in fantastic detail. His carvings of train engines had about 1000 pieces each. Most have moving wheels and other parts.
Absolutely amazing! A MUST see!
Very amazing carvings!!! Worth your time to go!!!
Love this museum & bring friends here when they visit. And their knives are the best anywhere! I love mine so much! The finest quality! It's amazing to have this in our small community. Mooney had such talent!!!!
Unbelievable craftmanship artestry
Beautiful place ..a must see.
Fabulous display of Warther's genius
I ordered a custom cutting board as a wedding gift. Waited nearly 4 months to get it and it was damaged. When I took it back, they challenged that it was a defect in the wood and not a scratch, yet you could feel it when you ran your finger over it. After the second trip, the supervisor wasn’t in so I left it under the condition that I get a new one or my money back. They called a few days later saying it was ready. When I went to get it, they had mostly repaired the first scratch, but added 3 new scratches. I received a refund. They seem to be tying their shop to the "Amish Country" as a boutique handcrafted store, but the service and product do not line up with the prices.
What a marvelous, magical place. If you like fine artestry, trains, sewing or just a great day, this is the place
An amazing and educational place to visit.
The story of the life and work of Moody Warther is very worth the trip and time. He is a man of amazing hobbies that he fueled with passion for his entire life!
Amazing museum!!! Absolutely take the tour and allow at least 2 hours but 3 would be better to see evrrything!!! So glad we went!!!
This place is amazing. The Earnest "Mooney" Warther museum, Dover, Ohio. "1885 - 1973" Mooney started whittling not long after finding a rusty pocket knife in the dirt on the trail at age of 5 while taking cows to pasture. After meeting a hobo on a train platform who had carved a working set of pliers, mooney inspired to start his own whittling journey. Taking him from whittling (last whittling project, plier tree august 28th 1913) Master Carver He carved a "to scale" model steam locomotive of the Empire State Express in Ivory and ebony construction. This locamotive was hand made not once, but 4 times. One in complete ivory. Look at his tools of his trade...displays of his own pocket knives and interchangeable blades. Over the years Mooney captured the changes and developments of the steam locomotive through carving in wood and ivory. As the steam train designs became more complex, so too did the carvings each hand carved with intricate functioning detail. You can view the walking stick commemorating Lindbergh's flight... Ivory carving of "East meeting West" on the transcontinental rail road.
Wonderful place to visit. Amazing works of art. Warther was truly a great carver. Would recommend for all ages.
So cool!!!! His artistry is impressive!
Wow wow wow. Talented man!!
Very cool place, I’ve been to a lot of museums but this place is on a entire new level. Great place to visit!
This is a must see museum if in the dover ohio area. I would love to come back and bring my grandchildren. The buttons arranged beautifully and the train carvings are unbelieveable. A 2nd grade education with a mind of a genius. Go see it!
This was an amazing collection of carving work to see. Absolute surprise from what I expected. The range of types of carved objects is incredible. I was fascinated by the his display of hand carved steam locomotives ranging from the very first to the very last and biggest of the locomotives. Worth the effort to visit.
Absolutely amazing! The gentleman that did our your was so informative. Would loved to have heard more personal family stories.
Mind blowing museum! I highly recommend checking it out.
Great place to see lot of history. Gift shop pricey not much in it.
The price of the knife we purchased was incorrect on the list posted. When questioned the clerk didn't offer to honor the incorrect price until asked again. She should have honored the incorrect price on the display sheet and on the knife immediately instead of hoping we just pay and go away. It was very uncomfortable.
Love this place! Leave an hour + for the tour, then time to mosey around and enjoy the museum and grounds. $15 per adult, less for kids and seniors is well worth hearing the story of this fascinating man's life!
Interesting place
This is a favorite place of mine. It's remarkable. Moonie carved the history of tge steam engine out of ebony, ivory, and wood. Everything is to scale. Also love the Swiss gardens and his wife's button house.
Amazing museum! The carvings are so detailed it is almost unbelievable, have to see it in person. Ernest Warther was truly a genius and master at his craft. To be able to not only visualize, but also then carve such amazing pieces shows his incredible talent. Can't recommend enough!
Went to this museum last year. It was amazing to see all the wood carvings this man done during his life. You will not regret going. Also see the Button house on the same property done by his wife. Loved it. Can't wait to see it again.
Love going to this museum. Never a dull moment. Good place to pick IP excellent knives.
Definitely a go back again and again lots of historical facts and very educational
Beyond EXCELLENT! I "WILL" visit again!! Narrator/guide was VERY well versed, cordial, & KNEW her subject!!!
Check website for hours. They change in winter. Staff leaves early if no one there. Arrive at least an hour before close. Google does not reflect accurate hours. Call or see website
Good place to get quality knives. And they sharpen them too!
If you've never been here, you should definitely make time for it. The hand carved trains are just breathtaking. Mr. Warther had an unbelievable talent and his collection is truly a unique treasure like no other.
The carvings really are amazing. It's definitely worth seeing if you're in the area.
What an amazing tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate. Mr Warther was a talented genius with a passion for carving and his family!
I have not been there in a while. Took 5 friends to the Warther museum and hoped they would like it. They raved about what a great tallant Ernest was and the fantastic tour we enjoyed.
We enjoyed our tour. The guide was very knowledgeable. We were disappointed that the knife factory didn't have demonstrations. But, they took us down there to see the machines. Take note that it was due to weather that it was not showing demonstrations. The button room is amazing. The house has great antiques on display. We will return.
Awesome place to visit
Worth the trip. Great woodwork, craftsmanship from a genius. He also made blades and now there is a knife company. Made in the U.S.A. The wife collected and artfully displayed buttons which was also beautiful. Parking on the grounds. Around $10-15 per person admission for all day.
Great place to go and take your children they will love it ❤️
I can't get enough of this place. I first visited as a child and have returned at least a dozen times since. If you have children, you have to take them, and you have to get a pair of pliers. Naturally there are many unique items in the gift shop as well, but every kid needs a pair of Warther's pliers. If you are looking to improve your cutlery, this is the place to go!
Super place. Everyone should go here
They have the best knifes. And free sharpening for their
One of a kind place. A must visit if you appreciate great craftsmanship and history.
I have been here a few times throughout my life, every time I find myself amazed. The talent and thought process of this late carver is excellence in its best regard.
What an amazing place. This man was a genius with wood carving
What an amazing place. The attention to detail is far beyond what I ever could imagine. The tour was nice but we didn’t have time to walk around on our own. We will have to go back again to take our time.
What a gem. Brought my 7 & 4 year old grandsons, it was probably over their heads, but there was enough to look at to keep them entertained.
Love trains? And skilled wood & ivory carvings? And history? You need to visit this place
Truly impressive! What an artist/craftsman. Muesem was well laid out. A dont miss tour.
Should be free, but ok.
A must visit while in Amish country. Amazing works.
This museum of one man's carvings all trains and other things is unbelievable what he did with his time and the small details that are in there that can take a long time to see what are the absolute must goes if you live in Ohio a live where you can go you must go
Lovely history on an amazing Carver and knife maker. As well as his wife's hobbies and his hobbies. A must see!!!!
Honestly, I've never gone in but there are 2 Gokemon Go gyms in that court that myself and my group frequent a lot and the staff there are super nice about it. They never complain about us standing around or parking (we only stay for 10 minutes max and we dont loiter). The place always looks great too, landscaping is always pretty and the inside from what I can see from outside is always nice too.
Great place. Even my 10 year old had a great time. One of the neatest places.
One of the most fascinating places to visit in Ohio.
Awesome display of a person's attention to detail and love of the marvels of machinery! He was a very handy and crafty individule that will impress you with all they have to show you there that he was able to do!
One of a kind museum
That guy was really genius
A cool place to go with friends and family!
Amazing things these carvings are wow
I had been to the museum before and found it fascinating. I bought knives there and they are really high quality. I went to get the knives sharpened and everyone was extremely nice. This was an excellent experience and worth taking the hour-and-a-half trip to see the museum and enjoy the gift shop and enjoy watching the Craftsmen creates the knives on site
Simply amazing. I didn't know what to expect, but I was just blown away. if you find yourself in Dover take the tour of the museum.
Awesome place to visit
Truly an awe inspiring visit. The tour has something for everyone.; the train enthusiast, the mathematician, the artist, the historian and more. I highly recommend this museum.
A great experience!
Great local story and history of a remarkable man!
I could have spent hours just looking at the incredibly detailed carvings in this museum.
Very nice tour. Tour guides are passionate about preserving the legacy of Ernest "Mooney" Warther. He was a genius and his carvings are beautiful. Loved the button room, too! His wife Frieda collected buttons and designed lovely creations. Can't wait to go back in the summer and walk the gardens.
really a great place to visit good atmosphere good people work there exciting really shows a guy that really was down-to-earth and how good a person can do when he puts his heart to it
Fun, friendly and educational. Love going and always learn something new.
The museum deserves way more than five stars. To say a visit there is absolutely breathtaking is an understatement. A must see when visiting the Dover- New Philadelphia area
Delightful, with fascinating exhibits and engaging staff
Everyone should visit this place and hear his story. It is an example of a brilliant, loving man and his well lived life. We can all be enriched and inspired by his story.
The story of Ernest Warther and his carvings is definitely interesting, and the museum is certainly worth a visit. The intricacy of the carvings is positively astounding and it is amazing to think of the time and effort that was expended to create these true works of art. The gardens seemed less impressive, but, I was there at a time before they could fully bloom. Count on spending a couple of hours to go on the guided tour, look around, and explore all the different aspects of this man's most fascinating obsession.
Great museum to learn about the great Mooney Warther and a must visit for locals. A great time to visit is during the annual christmas tree festival held here.
Very unique. Doesn't take long to go through and you will likely enjoy the visit. Recommend going.
Love it. Have been there about 15 times
Wonderful place. So glad we stopped. Phenomenal carvings.
My 6year old grandson loved the gentleman who guided our tour. There were some souvenirs fairly priced for him to buy and take back home. This was our second time there.
Get the best home made knives in Ohio here.
An awesome place to visit.
Word do not do this place justice. AMAZING.
Beautiful artwork done by an amazing talented man , priceless pieces of history beautifully displayed !
Amazing art by "Moony" Warther great life history
I met Mooney Warther about 60 years ago, he carved me a pair of pliers. It was good to go back and see it again. The place is much as I recall but nicer building.
The train carvings are amazing for their detail but we go for the knives.
Highly recommend! The carvings are magnificent! The detail work is amazing! Such an impressive collection!
Worth a visit if you enjoy this sort of thing. Nicely done.
Such an amazing museum!
So many interesting and unique items.
Amazing collection of incredible talent shown in the intricate carvings. Excellent guide too.
Just an amazing place to see. Unbelievable that one man could create so much. The knives are some of the best you'll find.
It was very interesting. I was impressed with the things he did. But I had taken a bus full of children and the lady that gave us the tour did not stay on the child's level. She tended to talk along time and they were not interested in it that long. They got bored real quick. Next time I'd ask to go through quicker.
Awesome place.
Must see. Amazing man. Amazing place.
Very nice museum and awesome carvings on display with very intricate detail.
Great history. Neat carvings. Great place to take kids and adults!
This was a 3hr drive from Pittsburgh....would drive for days. A treat for all ages. A story of genius, patience and perseverance. A must see
Haven't actually been here since I was young, in the 80s, it was nice then, I imagine it is now
A very interesting place
Very nice, and staff were as well.
Very informative and amazing story!
Had a good time. It was really cool seeing all the things he carved.
I haven't been through the museum since I was very little. I go there to shop and have my knives sharpened. The staff is nothing but fantastic to every guest. At the time I am writing this they are moving into a new building next door. I am excited to see what that brings. The prices are high but so worth what you get, you simply can not go wrong with their products. I have a 4 piece set for home, steak knives and I just recieved a new set for our camper.
This artist was truly a master! He left behind impeccable trains and other carvings built to scale. The garden outside and extensive button collection were charming as well.A must see!
An amazing place to visit. My 8 year old is such a train lover and our visit to Warthers was the highlight of his day he loved every minute of the tour and the tour guide was so sweet and answered all of his many questions.
Very informative staff. Moonie was Brilliant artist! Truly amazing.
Pretty cool. Nice grounds. Very r Relaxed place.
Very fun and educational
A must see when in Dover, OH. This man was such a gifted carver and interesting person. The museum staff is great.
Our Homeschool Group was completely knocked off feet learning about this man and his God-given gifts! An intelligent and passionate neighbor of Ernest "Mooney" Warther, Mr. Jack gave our group a very thorough guided tour. Thank you most kindly to him. This museum is surely a gem hidden in Ohio. Be sure to allow at least 3 hours to visit.
Fascinating. Great artistry and creativity by Ernest Warther. Well worth the visit.
Amazing. Must go. Bucket list place
Visited in elementary school, but seeing as an adult was just better.
This unique gift shop with Warther cutlery, kitchen decor, home decor and food items is one of Ohios best kept secrets. The tour of train carvings is a must do for anyone remotely interested in trains. This is a good place to stop as a family. History buffs will love this family owned establishment.
So far, the most interesting museum I have ever visited! Amazing and intricate carvings I've ever seen! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Great gift shops. You were a true genius Mr. Warther!
